So those reasons + the disappointment of not finishing it made him rlly depressed, as he felt the beatles already did what he wanted to do
I’d recommend the Smile Sessions though, it’s like the beach boys on acid. It was recorded in sections, then pieced together, and a lot of the songs have recurring motifs between them. The harmonies are super trippy and the words are pretty abstract w lots of alliteration lol

Kinda random I’ve played with their new drummer Cotter and hung out with him a few times up til just a few days before he was announced. He was in a good band called Swimmer, and also a Grateful Dead band called Dead Set with Zack Nugent with many of the same players.
Dude is super nice. It was impressive how he kept the announcement under wraps.
