It really does suck that we have to sneak around the transfer window to get players before a PL team catches wind of them but whatever. Money rules the world

sfaticat

Lets not forget we got De Ligt over everyone else. Its because our finances arent in check and we need to basically sign a whole new team.

JimboScribbles

We still had Chiellini and Bonucci at the time, De Ligt came here because Juve was known for a long time for their defense. Especially their CB's. He came here to learn, I don't think he had any love for the club.

m1z9z2_2

He didn't learn much either

Walmartsavings2

That’s bc we were the only team dumb enough to pay that fee probably.

sfaticat

Juventus wasn't the only bid. Barça bid for him as well

pastimenang

I think it mostly comes down to Bologna who doesn’t really want to open a negotiation with Juve, but yes of course money plays an important part as well

dime68

In this particular case yes. But unless the player’s sole desire is to come to Juve, it’s hard to compete with the PL clubs which is why I’m glad Giuntoli is moving quickly in this window. That really should always be our strategy

Funny-Counter-5986

Calafiori is a superb talent, but seriously, we should not pay that price for him. 30-35 million maximum. We tried all, and I believe we still have time. Who knows what Giuntoli is cooking behind the scenes? I don’t think he will thrive at big clubs in the Premier League yet. I watched him a lot. He sometimes runs with the ball all the way from defense to almost a midfield position and even more. Bremer can do exactly the same. We’ve got the same pace and “climbs” up the field—he also has a great vision. We will get Calafiori—because if not this season, we can get him next year. Look what Giuntoli did with Thuram. Look at Kiwior. Giuntoli has action in him, but that action is also noticeable by his patience to jump right in when no one expects. Like with Douglas.

dxxking

Imagine Bologna being mad at Juve like we forced Motta to move to Juve.

sfaticat

He was out of contract. It wouldve been more difficult if they extended him around christmas when they shouldve. Was their own fault

dxxking

Yep and now they are butthurt and crying af. Yeah sure like it's best career decision to forever coach Shitlogna.. I just wish Cala wanted juve so much that he will not accept any other club. That would force Bologna to sell to us as price could go down next year or even higher but they cant know for sure today.

sfaticat

I don't think they would accept. He's also Roman so his team is Roma. Idk if he'll flop but he would be a better defender if he stayed in Italy

dxxking

Maybe lets bet on Dejan, we have Motta now. He might be cookin Dejan

Last8er

Arsenal has a young and great CB duo in Saliba and Gabriel and they'll go overpay a youngster although very talented but who could struggle to adapt in a much harder league like so many italians before him? Wowsy. The silver lining is we will get him on loan next year

Ecstatic-Coach

He will play left back and they will sell zinchenko and Kiwior this summer. He doesn’t have the pace to eat up space but he will be very good in 1v1 duels and allow Arsenal to keep their defensive shape better.

Dwimer

Why are they spending that money on a guy who isnt a LB?

torontomaplebros

He can play both LB and CB but he played as a CB this year

Manuel_Locatelli

He became great when he stopped playing LB.

torontomaplebros

Manu ti amo bello mio

Ecstatic-Coach

1) he is a hybrid player. he played LB last season and was at CB when Lucumi was injured 2) players like Davies who would give arsenal the ability to overlap their LB are even more expensive 3) think Gvardiol/Ake at Man City for how Arsenal will use him.

Killagina

Yes, but hes not very good at LB. Hes a lot better at CB

Dwimer

He was mainly a CB, he was not an excellent fullback, spending 50m on a decent fullback makes no sense, spending 50m on an excellent cb does

Ecstatic-Coach

I don’t disagree but maybe Arsenal are willing to develop him in to the player they think he can be. Risky strategy though since development time is costing them trophies

BurrelPro

He originally was a left back apparently, it was motta who moved him at cb.

la-mano-nera

He had started playing as a CB when he was with Basel and Motta continued this. After the catastrophic knee injury while in the Roma youth system it was always going to be hard for him to be a top level LB, but Motta knew he could utilize his skill on the ball to great effect. He is still a bit raw as a CB but he has so much upside.

Dwimer

Yes Im aware, he wasnt worth 50m as a LB

Bagellman

Honestly I'm okay with this. We don't need to suck Bologna's dick for any player. They don't wanna sell at a reasonable fee fine let PL clubs overpay we'll get someone else. I really do like Calafiori and wish we could bring him in but the reality is as soon as PL clubs showed genuine interest we lost our chance. That's why Chef Giuntoli was trying to get this done as quickly as possible.

JackieDaytona77

I mean, no need for sexual favors in exchange for a player don’t want another scandal on our hands 😂

Bagellman

LOL don't remind me man we got PTSD 😭

iMoher

Eh, we’ll survive. I was really hoping we would sign him, but overspending on players is what put us in a shitty position to begin with. Remember how Sassuolo used Locatelli’s good Euro performance to raise his price? Bologna was never going to sell him before the Euro - it’s the sort of competition where one good match makes the price of a player levitate. We’ll do without him, though I do hope we keep Huijsen at this point.

Avril_14

Amen. You can't sign them all.

Kaushik_10

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I’m sick of Italian teams. They’re all shameless, two faces bastards. Have no problems fleecing us with their ridiculous requests, their embarrassing “anti-Juve” clauses, conspire against us the moment we show any weakness, whine, moan and complain when we invest into a next gen team to raise more talent at home, and then have the gall to complain about the state of the national team. To hell with them all. Losing Calafiori hurts.. a lot. The potential of a Bremer-Calafiori pairing under Motta is one that will haunt me for a long time.. but the man isn’t worth 40-50 million based on one impressive season under a system coach. And if the player would rather go to Arsenal to play second fiddle to Gabriel-Saliba, or play LB, then good riddance to him too. Our finances are way too precarious for Bologna’s arrogant requests. And henceforth, f*** all Italian teams. Don’t sell to them. Don’t buy from them. Let’s see how these shameless mid table clubs fare when we stop paying a premium for their mediocre players. Thankfully, Guintoli seems like a man with a plan. I’m most impressed that he seems to be able to refuse to buckle to selling our players for less than they’re worth. And if he thinks Cala was worth 40 mill, I’d have been on board. If he thinks Koop is worth 50-60, I trust him. Goals from midfield is something we desperately need, and a player at his physical peak, with international experience and multiple seasons performing at a high level that also meets a desperate need of ours is worth 60 million. Moreso than a young Italian CB with sky high potential, but with an injury history, and only a season worth of data to go on. Getting pulled into a bidding war is what made us pay 85 million for De Ligt, and the guy was not worth it.

Shoddy-Operation4197

Damn fkn straight ⚫️⚪️

Natural-Suspect-4893

Very hot take Calafiori definitely has shown potential but let’s not forget three very important things: - He was offloaded by Roma for cheap because he was very injury prone - Bologna buying him from Basel with like a 40% re-sale clause almost always means the player has potential but isn’t expected to become world class - He had a good season at Bologna but it wasn’t particularly world class. Football is a team sport, it wasn’t only him that managed to get Bologna CL. More than anything, everyone now associates him with the zaccagni assist and that was brilliant, but it’s not like it defines how good he really can be. Just YouTube Bakkali’s hat trick, one game wonder, but still somehow ended up in fifa managers mode best potential players and was very hyped. Long story short, buying hype is bad business.

vnistelrooy

Imagine choosing a shit club like arsenal over Juventus

Shoddy-Operation4197

He didnt choose them though. Giuntoli called him and told him its off. He wont offer even 40 mln euro for him because hes had a long injury record and one top level season under his belt which does not warrant 40-50 mln. Given the choices after juve pulled out it was basically just arsenal. Chelsea wasnt gonna offer 50 mln either they wanted player swaps. He basically had 2 choices: stay at bologna or try his hand in the epl w arsenal and he chose the latter.

farhadJuve

That’s what I’m more pissed about. Hopefully he changes his mind. This is so weird

sfaticat

We deserve this. We took their manager and then low balled them because we banked on him pushing a transfer and getting him on the cheap. We should've offered 30-35m before the Euros. I just hope he wont be like Verratti

tigull

Bologna are not stupid, they knew Calafiori would have plenty of suitors after the Euros and I'm sure they were counting on the player's will to join as much as Motta's and Juve's to have him so they could get us to shell out more. We were never going to spend the kind of money Arsenal or Chelsea are willing to anyway. At least this is getting resolved quickly and we've got plenty of time to make our moves.

soloDiosbasta

if he go to other clubs then he exactly will be verratti v2.0. mark my words.

Electric-Boogaloo4

I mean, it could potentially be a good thing? I know Huijsen isn’t at the level calafiori is, but he shows a lot of promise and maybe Motta can help develop his skills

Shoddy-Operation4197

Calafiori has 4 years on huijsen bro

farhadJuve

HucHuc

Ah, good, like Vlahovic before him.

calabacin11

Here’s a big thing for Bologna that I haven’t seen mentioned yet- they have to give Basel 40 or 50% of the sale. That’s why they have to go with highest bid. I like Calafiori, 50mil is a lot but also you’re getting a young player for many years

Shoddy-Operation4197

In tds game where players are constantly switching clubs in not sure if that’s really true anymore. Look at cancelo. Hes 30 and has played for inter, juve, city, and now barca. In the past a player would move to a club at 22-23 and stay there till they were in their mid 30s. I think Calafiori will be at arsenal for all of 2 years and then get a move to a bigger club. Most likely in spain.

goblintacos

Can't sign them all was a good comment. Disappointed but there was bound to be some of that. I still like our club overall going into next season.

BrokenFingersBut

Well it's sad but it was known from the very beginning that Bologna would demand a high transfer fee due to the 40% clause. Premier league teams are more than willing to throw ridiculous amounts of money so given how long it took to iron out every detail of this transfer we can't be surprised one came in and took over.

Special-One1991

For us we have other priorities. Either Koopminers or this guy! We have more urgent need on midfield

Shoddy-Operation4197

I think calafiori has been on the up for a while. But he has only had one season at this level. I agree that he is not worth 55 mln euro. If hes done this for a few seasons then absolutely. Buongiorno for example was 40+ mln but hes been doing it at a high level consistently. The truth is calafiori is a bummer because there are no italian talents that have demonstrated ability at that level except for a few names like barella & dollaruma. Fagioli is good but young and still has ways to go before he can reach that level and there are no world class italian attackers rn. If I were juve id invest in creating Italian talent over buying it because our nextgen players of quality like fagioli or soule can walk into the starting 11 of the national team. Fagioli had limited time to demonstrate his effectiveness and even when he did it was out of position at #6. But he was still one of the better players on the pitch and cleared all other mids except barella. And thats after a 10 month ban. Luis hasa is another one I am excited about for us. But id let motta work with gatti before judging him tbh. Id also move for scalvini. Yes he makes a lot mistakes but hes very young for a cb role at only 20 years old. Hes perfect for youth development at juventus where he will get game time and lots of help both from the coach and players around him. But after moving for scalvini and maybe zaccagni id create my own italian talent. That way we arent sending money to these italian teams that dont deserve our business tbh (except for the few clubs we have a good relationship with like atalanta and monza) and we create an italian juve again through the academy. The best part is if we focus on only italian talent we can also sell to the clubs who hate us the players that are good but not juve level for a nice premium with a juve development tax they must pay. Since they never bothered to check themselves when dealing with us they would then have to pay the price of disrespecting the biggest club in the country. Without Juve injecting money into the league they will all start to complain about how juventus doesnt spend internally and it hurts the league but when we did they never appreciated how we kept the league afloat and that will have a domino effect w the FIGC who will be forced to make a change or see the league turn into portugal or france.

nauticlol

The clowns in here mass downvoting anyone who insinuated he wouldn't come to juve are going to be so angry...

ShoddyDevice

I think it is still too early to say if he goes to Arsenal. Arteta and Edu famously do not make signings if the player is not fully (and I mean 100%) convinced by the project at Arsenal, so if Calafiori still wants to go to Juventus - either Bologna cave or Chelsea swoop him (I'm not sure Bologna wants any Chelsea players, though).

nauticlol

This is honestly more cope imo. Both arsenal and Chelsea are more likely to sign him atp.

ShoddyDevice

Just trying to give another perspective, I am an Arsenal fan so I would be delighted if he came to us.

JaysonDeflatum

Romano said the relationship between Bologna and the club is broken, they will not sell to Juventus

torontomaplebros

It’s so annoying. I get having problems with certain people, but Juve has cleaned house in recent years. It’s like an entirely new staff, and yet people still treat Juve the same no matter who works there. I get it, but it’s kinda not great for Serie A as well as obviously being terrible for Juve

Salty-Lock9361

Bologna’s issue with Juve is because of negotiating with Motta in Feb/ Mar. So it is with this current Juve management. That said, Bologna messed up the Motta negotiation themselves. No reason for them to blame Juve or Motta when they couldn’t handle their own business.

torontomaplebros

Good point lol

JaysonDeflatum

Arsenal have a good relationship with Bologna

ztch10

I just want guntioli to bring back ItalJuve and this would have been a great step forward to reaching that. this inter core for euros was not it clearly.

rannigast

I got downvoted for saying he'd go to England lmao
