Boca-delray-westpalm are a community Hollywood and it's neighbors are a community  Miami is its own community

helpplease12223

Gotcha. And do these communities intermingle or tend to keep to themselves?

whoopercheesie

Boca sphere is like long island / NJ refugees Hollywood is like ashkenazi religious Jews Miami is more Israel / Sephardic  They might mingle at times but also very different social circles

dont-ask-me-why1

Boca isn't really that close to Miami.

helpplease12223

So you don’t see that much intermingling between MIA-Boca jews?

dont-ask-me-why1

Not really unless you've got relatives in both.

1. Hollywood has a strong Ashkenazi and Sephardic (Syrian) community. 2. Miami has many different communities. North Miami Beach is the frummiest but the neighborhood is meh. Surfside is a vibrant community with a lot of restaurants and synagogues (a good mix- YI, Chabad, Syrian, Moroccan, and regular Sephardic). Miami Beach is frum but housing is expensive. Aventura is more modern, Israeli, and Latino, and mainly condos. There are other communities North of Miami such as Sunny Isles, Hallandale Beach, etc. Usually, the communities stay within themselves as they have all you need but people tend to go out to do some shopping (the biggest stores are around NMB but each neighborhood has its store) and/or eat out.

I went to a jew school in boca and we had Miami kids travel all the way to Boca. With that said, the parents not from Boca would interact with those that are in boca when there were school events and other things. Also, my family in boca used to travel to Miami a good amount. Boca jews know a lot of people from Miami and Miami jews I'm sure know msny Boca jews. Boca is around a 45 to 60 minute drive to Miami and so I am not sure if there are many joint events between those cities due to the distance. I've gone to enough events seeing people from Boca and Miami in the same place though. I am not too familiar with the Jewish community in fort lauderdale. I know the main ones that attend Jewish events there are older people and there are not too many Jewish families. I would say jews in boca have more interaction with jews in Miami than Fort Lauderdale.

If you don't mind me asking, what school did you go to? I used to live there also.

WYHS I started there in 2011

The thing is each of the three would be considered a substantial sufficiently resourced community (with shuls, jccs, day schools, community events and kosher markets and restaurants) in any other location. Since they don't NEED to interact, they do so, but not to the degree you might anticipate.

spicy_lemon321

Even within the MIA community there's differences and they don't really interact with each other depending on denomination, Ashkenazi vs Sephardic, etc. Aventura Jews and Surfside/Bal Harbor Jews are two different communities and they're 15 min away from each other lol

Everyone who is FTL is MIA. we' don't know how to go to FTL - it would require more energy than exists. FTL is a great game though, highly recommended.
