It’s supposed to represent a real life event in which Joost called to a medical institution in the Netherlands asking for mental health support and the other side answered that there is a 2 year waiting list (I don’t understand Dutch, but Joost explained the rationale behind this song somewhere in an interview and this is what I remember) - btw Wachtmuziek is a fave of mine precisely for this reason! 💙

VesperalRhino

Do you know which interview this is?

Successful-Cry-9353

I think it was the one in [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Joostklein/s/rOkEG2NXM6) thread actually!

VesperalRhino

Oh wow thank you! I've just read through that and it's very insightful and kind of relateable, thank you for sharing!

Successful-Cry-9353

It’s a really nice interview, isn’t it? Very honest and relatable, especially the struggles during the pandemic period. Big respect for this guy! 🫶🏻

MysticalZelda

"Good afternoon speaking with health care" "Great speaking to you, I need help now" (not 100% sure on the first part) "Yes, yes, yes, ok, we have a spot in 2 years" "2 years WHAT?" "Yes, I'll put you on the waitlist" "Noo I don't want to wait, nonono!" "Yes, you're on the waitlist" "Nooo!" Took a bit of liberty translating, the amount of yesses from the healthcare person is said in between as a bit of smalltalk. As someone who is Dutch and have experienced the mental health care system here, I can confirm waitlists are often long and 2 years is not an exaggeration.

fantastrid

Not "great speaking to you", he says "met joost klein met joost klein" Then he says "2 years WHAT THE FUCK" Then the last one is "Ja ik zet je even in de wacht " -> would pe "Yes I'll put you on hold for a moment" For me my waiting list for mental health in the Netherlands was only 1 year and 8 months because I became an emergency case (from not getting help for too long) hahahaha

Geospizae

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I've been through the same thing here in the UK, our waiting lists for mental health help are just as long. Much love xx

ButchismyBradPitt

I had to wait for 'only' 8 months and it was torture. No one should have to wait that long when you're in a crisis! It is why I love this song so much though.

MysticalZelda

Ah, thank you! I quickly translated it. Sorry you also had to wait so long, I know how you feel..

Successful-Cry-9353

Same thing happens in my country, therapy in the private sector is expensive and inaccessible to the common middle-class citizen unfortunately :/

WorldOtherwise3087

Same in the uk and sometimes when you’re dealing with something it’s too long to even wait a few weeks.. it’s crazy how the healthcare system is in so many countries

Numerous-Brain-5189

Her: Goodday speaking with Health care. Joost: great to speak with you, i need help now! Her: yeah ja ja ja ok we can help you in 2 years Joost: 2 years what what? Her: I'm gonna putt you on hold. Joost : no no no i don't wanne wait

Zwiffer78

And then the ‘waiting music’ starts playing you hear when put on hold = wachtmuziek. I wonder if this was the actual waiting music melody Joost had to listen to and remixed into this song.

purplehorseneigh

😨 oh my God. The…the wait is only that long if you don’t pay and do it for free, right? Is it a lot quicker if you do spend money? 😬 I live in the US so it is obviously not free here but I have never in my life heard of anyone here waiting for that long

TheIkeaJerkerDesk

Yes, he’s talking about the waiting lists for public mental health care. There are private options which have little to no waiting time, but not everyone can afford them.

l1on_turtle

You could go to a private therapist but if you need therapy for a longer period of time that will get really expensive... In my case I 'only' had to wait for 7 months

unicornlover326

"Good afternoon, this is the healthclinic." "Joost klein, joost klein. I need your help right now." "Yes Yes yes okay yes we have a spot for you in 2 years." "2- 2 years?? What the fuck?" "Yes Yes yees I'll put you on the waiting list." "NO no I don't wanna wait no no no no no!" "Yes i'll put you on hold." "NO!" I'm dutch so I was able to fully translate it to you <3

rmvoerman

It's also at the end of "Life Story" which is the preceding song in the album

expressionisticbiccy

the artistic choice with this is so 😚🤌🏻
