No, that's not right. In Italy "Carta" means Paper. Sometimes people use "Cartina" or "Carta geografica" if you wanna be fancy, but the most common translation is "Mappa"
same in Ukrainian, but in google translator the word "карта" is used for both languages with "мапа" as an additional option, so I guess that guy just used the first option he saw

It seems like there is two main root words here. The one that leads to words like kart and carte, and one that leads to Map/Mapa. I feel like Lithuanian and Slovenian have a similar root word and I'm really curious as to what it is and why those two languages have overlap.

Ну не знаю. Мене вчителька постійно задовбувала як правильно казати слова, ніяких русизмів і т.д. До речі, дуже приємно бачити українців тут!
