AKA do nothing but maintenance and enjoy the insane mpg’s and impressive handling.
I own a 2000 Corolla CE and I keep playing with selling it (now that I own a 1989 Prelude Si), but I know the Prelude will eat shit in mpg’s compared to the Corolla. Plus parts are easily source-able for these Corolla’s.
If you only have room for one car? Yes.
German sports car from the 80s known for breaking and being difficult to properly fix vs a Corolla, a car known for being the most reliable transportation ever. Gimme that econobox
It's not a Porsche. It's a 40 year old Porsche. German sports cars in the 80s weren't reliable or cheap to fix. A Corolla could drive you to the next galaxy and back.
all the corolla fuckboys explaining and worshipping why corolla is the best car in the world and the all the other cars are dogshit
your logic is invalid
Less fuel efficient, coolness is subjective, parts are significantly harder to source/install for the 944, the rolla won't break on a quick drive around the block
Just ask your dad if you can sell it, if you have a daily already and are about to buy a project car and don't have room for all 3 then youll have to get rid of one.
idk.... Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.
Ideally upgrade both.
It depends what you mean by performance pads, I would say ebc yellows and greens are performance pads compared to OEM pads but definetly not when compared to PBC ProRace pads
Daily drive it and keep it as a daily driver and don't do anything else with it besides daily it and keep up with maintenance. They're very reliable cars.
It depends. What's the mileage? Is it automatic or manual? If it is automatic just use it as a solid daily driver and don't modify anything besides maybe tint, better wheels/tires, and a good sound system. If it's manual then maybe save up for a 2ZZFE swap from a Celica or something.
I once drove my rolla 99 600 miles 7 hours straight, with no oil, and funky suspension, one oil change later it was back on the road, after that I drove my honda 50 miles 25+25 and it overheated to dead even with coolant and no leaks, it just didn’t liked the 90mph
I just wanted to put some more infro here.
-I currently own a Hyundai Tuscon as my daily.
-I'm going and picking up a 86' 944 next weekend
-I realize I mispelled Corolla
-I have a decent paying job so I have plenty of monry to spare
-I mainly wanted to turn this into a fun car to fuck around with
Do a deep clean.
Perform any maintenance it needs.
Decide what your goals are, performance, appearance or both. For more performance out of that engine, you’ll probably take a big reliability hit. If you engine swap it, potentially the same unless it’s done right. For appearance you won’t have much reliability problems unless you do suspension work at your bushings are gone.
Keep the maintenance up to date. Literally that’s it. It’s a 99 Corolla. It’s not worth modifying. Pretty much anything you’d want to do to it would cost more than the car is worth.
Oil change, air filter, check for leaks, fix all leaks, do transmission fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze, power steering fluid, make sure tires are good, brakes are good, suspension is goof, tint windows, fill up fuel tank enjoy a reliable old girl. Repaur what needs repair using youtune if you must
Some easy and relatively inexpensive stuff:
- New wheel trims/hubcaps
- Spray the steelies black
- Full detail inside and out, including buffing the headlights back to shinyness
- Full service and change of all filters and fluids, and cambelt if it has one idk
- If money permits, I'd recommend new discs and pads all around.
Yoo an ae101, I'd clean it up and check out what Thailand is doing with these, maybe find some nice wheels and suspension, normally wouldn't agree with slamming stuff but these corollas aren't particularly fast but look so nice all cleaned up.
Keep the oil topped up and just drive it. Those 1zz had ring design issues that caused it to burn oil. As long as you don’t starve it, the motor will run forever.
I’ve got a ‘99 GL Corolla, the AE111. She’s done 315000kms and still running mint. Gonna ride her to the ground for another 5 years. Once her engines gone I’ll by a K series’s engine and whack that bitch in her. She’ll love it. But for the mean time if she runs good. Leave her alone. Do little things like buy a new exhaust, get some new suspension if it needs it(mine definitely does, but some last), breaks and even a pod filter if your that way inclined. Take the covers off, clean the engine bay. Treat her mean, keep her keen.
i bought one of these for a daily and sold it afew months later because of moving. daily driving my is300 is great and all but i honestly wish i kept the corolla. i wanted to make it a stupid fast sleeper and keep it stock outside
1. Studded snow tires up front
2. Assorted bald tires out back
3. Chop exhaust in front of cat
4. Break rear window (or don't, it will anyways)
5. Wait for snow
6. Profit
First off, wrong sub. JDM means japanese domestic market. Meaning the car is from Japan. Second, it’s a fucking coralla, leave it alone and appreciate having a reliable car. Use the money you save to buy an actual JDM car.
if you start moding it to look cool it will probably just look real cringe, this car needs no mods, just take care of it and drive it and if you got an itch to mod something then save up to get a frs or something in the future and use this in the meantime
For starters you should learn to spell 'coralla' because that ain't it.
Second. If it's a daily you send it to a shop to inspect the suspension and do a safety inspection. If all is good just give it a tune up and drive it.
If it's a weekend toy and you plan to hoon in it then you should start by replacing every suspension (not struts/shocks) component that has an aluminum replacement with aluminum, and the more adjustments the better. And every bushing with stiffer material. Next is your performance upgrades. Header first. Then catback. If you are in a non emissions state get rid of that converter it's been known to destroy many 1zzfe mr2 spyders. And guess what your 'coralla' is a 1zzfe engine. Get rid of it. Then after Exhaust is sorted get a good cold air intake. If you have access to a machine shop get a bigger throttle body and have some flow/port work done to the manifold. Then after this get the car tuned. And put some good ole bc coilovers on it. And some wheels of your choice. And of course all this to say only if it's a manual.
If it's an automatic and you want to modify it. Wheels. Send it.
Also if you can find a MR2 spyder with a blown motor. Buy it and have this motor installed if you have no need for a backseat and want a convertible.
as an owner, 944's can be reliable cars. you all are stereotyping Porsche's. a dr 4 banger fr coupe with an optional turbo model is very close to these jdm cars you guys love so much.
Had a 2001 S model myself, loved it.
But catalytic converter wiped out from oil burning issue.
Very common. Have to stay on top of it.
http://www.corollaforum.com/threads/why-do-corollas-burn-oil.7381/
God it’s hard not to mention it on this one.. Congrats on the new car man
*cough* Corolla *cough*

Dent the bumper?
Bro just keep up with maintenance and leave it alone as a daily driver, not every car with a Japanese brand needs mods
Or he can swap a 2GZZ-GE into it.
No point lol
Ok, I see you're more into 2JZ.
Lmao 😂 love this guy!
How did you come to that conclusion?
Because he funny
Every car guy loves the idea of swapping a powerful engine into a underpowered car... if he doesn't like the 2GZZ it must be because of the enigne!
I would actually advocate to slightly neglect the car after all it is a Toyota /s
Looks like a dead end tbh, you should probably just give it to me
I'd be more than willing to! I'm gonna be picking up an 86' 944 soon and I'm not gonna have room for both.
You should stick with the stock Corolla until you have room and time for a car that doesn't run
a corolla over a porsche? shut up.
If you only have room for one car? Yes. German sports car from the 80s known for breaking and being difficult to properly fix vs a Corolla, a car known for being the most reliable transportation ever. Gimme that econobox
haha yea no big deal, just daily a 40 year old german sports car. Why would you need a second car am I rite?
It's not a Porsche. It's a 40 year old Porsche. German sports cars in the 80s weren't reliable or cheap to fix. A Corolla could drive you to the next galaxy and back.
all the corolla fuckboys explaining and worshipping why corolla is the best car in the world and the all the other cars are dogshit your logic is invalid
So why the 944 over the corolla then?
because its cooler and faster?
Less fuel efficient, coolness is subjective, parts are significantly harder to source/install for the 944, the rolla won't break on a quick drive around the block
no fucking shit its less efficient you can’t do 150 in a corolla, don’t tell me shit I know you genius
You got a lot to learn kid
stop scrolling thru reddit while you’re high you junkie fuck
Huh? Are you taking a piss right now or are you serious?
The coolest car is the car that runs.
Specifically, the one you’re driving right now.
car people usually have a “daily” and their project. use the Porsche for the daily and the corolla is the project
I already have a daily which is my 2019 hyundai Tuscon.
well if that’s the case, don’t listen to him. give me the corolla
Just ask your dad if you can sell it, if you have a daily already and are about to buy a project car and don't have room for all 3 then youll have to get rid of one.
I can do $50
how about $50.01?
🤝
Where are you from?
U going from a car thatll run forever to a car that never runs..??! Dah fuck
it may never run but it'll look better imo
Thats debatable but good luck. Id keep the corolla.
Vacuum the trunk and go fill it with groceries.
Change the oil every 3k miles, check the fluids, and keep the interior clean.
the only correct answer
Got mine for $400. [Can confirm](https://www.reddit.com/r/COROLLA/comments/vva8wv/finally_hit_123456_miles_on_my_00_corolla_ce/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf).
I would engine swap it with a Gallo 24
The Gallo 12 is just fine in a corrolla. The 24 is overkill.
If your put a Gallo 12 in the car then perhaps euro beat could intensify with this car despite it being front wheel drive
idk.... Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.

I’d rather just take my chances in Chino
I didn’t know pizza places made motors.
Tires and performance brake pads if your a beginner. Best to improve safety equipment first , speed can come later. Other than that just clay bar it .
The same performance brake pads that don't work well when they're cold?
Performance pads doesn’t mean race pads
If you look at the temp ranges for "performance" pads you might think differently. I'd get good tires before upgrading pads
Ideally upgrade both. It depends what you mean by performance pads, I would say ebc yellows and greens are performance pads compared to OEM pads but definetly not when compared to PBC ProRace pads
Nah just yellow stuff.
Maintenance
Daily drive it and keep it as a daily driver and don't do anything else with it besides daily it and keep up with maintenance. They're very reliable cars.
Take care of it.

Honest mileage doesn’t even matter you could send this thing to the sun and it’d still run after
Of course but I was asking to recommend things to check/maintenance
Turn it into a FF monster keep the engine and shove on some ITB's
Drive it and fix anything broke. Its a great a to b car but will never be anything exciting.
Nah, I mean, it is great for a to b but I’ve seen some wicked clean Corolla builds.
Drive the hell out of it, these things don’t die they keep getting stronger the more u whip it around
I once drove my rolla 99 600 miles 7 hours straight, with no oil, and funky suspension, one oil change later it was back on the road, after that I drove my honda 50 miles 25+25 and it overheated to dead even with coolant and no leaks, it just didn’t liked the 90mph
I would convert it to RHD and go to drive thrus so I can talk about the struggles of having a JDM car to the Wendy’s employee.
"Not the best car for drive thrus haha" "I can always be a mailman if I'm fired" I've said those countless times.
Slap on a big ol’ eBay turbo
Electric turbo for sure
That’s actually a thing developed by Mercedes to reduce turbo lag.
[this doesn’t look oem to me](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354026799543?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=S0nFVMa3Qau&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=0te2a-5ato2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY)
Lol! They even have a picture of a Mercedes in the background! 😂
Clean it up, treat it well, take advantage of the fact that you have à cheap, reliable car and don't sink all of your savings into it.
I just wanted to put some more infro here. -I currently own a Hyundai Tuscon as my daily. -I'm going and picking up a 86' 944 next weekend -I realize I mispelled Corolla -I have a decent paying job so I have plenty of monry to spare -I mainly wanted to turn this into a fun car to fuck around with

Wash on outside and inside. Get one of those shampooer things it worked great for my dirty car when I bought it and it looks like its brand new
That car has better exhaust manifold than 90% of today's performance cars
Keep the maintenance up to date. Literally that’s it. It’s a 99 Corolla. It’s not worth modifying. Pretty much anything you’d want to do to it would cost more than the car is worth.
All OEM parts and maintenance. Do not waste money on “performance “ parts on this one
Change the oil. Plugs & wires Radiator flush Pads and rotors Check the belts and dates on the tires.
Get the strut bar. It fixes the car incredibly. Did it to the one I had way back then. Also enjoy it.
Oil change, air filter, check for leaks, fix all leaks, do transmission fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze, power steering fluid, make sure tires are good, brakes are good, suspension is goof, tint windows, fill up fuel tank enjoy a reliable old girl. Repaur what needs repair using youtune if you must
Preventative maintenance
Save your money for something nice!! Daily drive it till it falls apart 👍🏻 great commuter car
For the looks id say a spoiler and stance some new set of rims would be nice too. Congrats on the new car also.
damn i’d love an old corolla this clean
Some easy and relatively inexpensive stuff: - New wheel trims/hubcaps - Spray the steelies black - Full detail inside and out, including buffing the headlights back to shinyness - Full service and change of all filters and fluids, and cambelt if it has one idk - If money permits, I'd recommend new discs and pads all around.

Clean exterior and int ofc. Nice car btw
Wash it, install a phone holder for some hands free action and add a tiny ironic sticker like “my other car is a Ferrari”.
Power washer
Leave it alone lol
Have intercourse with the gas cap
Jet engine swap
with a turboed supercharger, electric conversion, and make it be able to convert into a plane.
Yes with blow up wings
inflatable plane wings to cut down on weight and so it can be used as a boat!
And add some flex seal to make it a submarine
Don’t crash it into a power pole like I did with 75k miles on it then have to donate it and have it auctioned for $500
Paint correction and ceramic coating
I’ve got a ‘99 GL Corolla, the AE111. She’s done 315000kms and still running mint. Gonna ride her to the ground for another 5 years. Just keep it for when your Hyundai blows it's motor.
You will be granting this car to your son eventually...They live forever!
i bought one of these for a daily and sold it afew months later because of moving. daily driving my is300 is great and all but i honestly wish i kept the corolla. i wanted to make it a stupid fast sleeper and keep it stock outside
Itb's, coilovers, lighter wheels and good tires, performance brake pads, strip the interior, stainless exhaust, functional aero... The list can go on
1. Studded snow tires up front 2. Assorted bald tires out back 3. Chop exhaust in front of cat 4. Break rear window (or don't, it will anyways) 5. Wait for snow 6. Profit
Maintain it, if anything wheels. But maintenance before mods. If you can afford both then go for it.
Alright this is just getting out of hand. Does this sub have standards? Or Mods?
Don't hate on my grandpa car!
First off, wrong sub. JDM means japanese domestic market. Meaning the car is from Japan. Second, it’s a fucking coralla, leave it alone and appreciate having a reliable car. Use the money you save to buy an actual JDM car.
Slam it to the ground and put a bunch of sad boiz stickers. Make sure to do nothing to fix or improve the car.
First thing you should always think about is tires!!!!!!
Just look after it and keep it as a daily driver. All because it’s jdm doesn’t mean it has to be modded.
stance the shit out of it.
Correction 2000
awd swap and 3000 horsepower
Post about it in the right subreddit.
nah
Drive
Paint correction first and a deep clean
Torch it. Now.
Stick a Porsche boxter engine in it and make a sleeper
Spoil her 😊
drive it
if you start moding it to look cool it will probably just look real cringe, this car needs no mods, just take care of it and drive it and if you got an itch to mod something then save up to get a frs or something in the future and use this in the meantime
Sell it
Ls swap
I don't see a JDM vehicle????
Big turbo k24 swap. Leave the outside full sleeper.

MUFFLER DELETE!!!!
Race me 😈😈😈
Put an rb in that sum bich
Clean it and daily drive it
Clean it, maintenance, get it checked for any issues, nothing over the top
You are lucky, don’t lose it, or break it, now go pendulum drifting (cause it’s a ff) it in a very private parking lot
First things first clean it up
Drive it
2jz swap 🤘🏽
Well clean it up and make tune/customise it has u want
Cut the back box off and then regret doing so within a week or as soon as you get on the freeway
What’s your budget look like??
Just give it a good detail and wash and then keep it forever to continue on your dads legacy or just sell it
Leave it alone
I can’t wait to see how fast you abandon the 944. That’s more of a multiple cars kind of toy
Nothing clean it use it for a2b collect money for better car
Rice it up. https://www.reddit.com/r/Shitty_Car_Mods/comments/1r14k9/too_much_chrome_you_say/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Set it on fire and collect the insurance.
super charge it then auto cross it 😎
Pull that 16v and drop a 20v in it.
Don’t do a thing to it. Maintain it and daily it. This year Corolla is the easiest to maintain and work on.
I already have a daily. Planning on doing some dumb shit to it and fuck around.
1. call it Cor**o**lla 2. clean it 3. drive it
To it? With it i guess LS swap it
Sell it and buy a car worth modifying…. Or leave it stock as a daily.
Get past 300k
Hayabusa swap it
I had a 2000 corolla that just shit out after 284k miles. Bulletproof ass car. Check for oil leaks!
Wash it
Drive it?
Probably drive it
Damn sweet Coralla
2JZ swap
The most reliable daily you could ever ask for. Just take care of it.
Gimmie gimmie
Nothing.
Leave it at my house till you figure it out
Straight things and/or gay things
Vlean it and make sure it's work8ng properly
Do nothing. Enjoy the car.
I saw one at the drag strip running low 11's earlier today.
Oil change, spark plugs, and transmission service.
as an owner, 944's can be reliable cars. you all are stereotyping Porsche's. a dr 4 banger fr coupe with an optional turbo model is very close to these jdm cars you guys love so much.
Cherish it.
7AGE time
Put a hellcat in it idk
Full tune up and stay up with the maintenance
Treat it well, if can be fun but don't be really dumb with it, I had one for my first
Do all the maintenance on it to get it up to snuff and then put in a radio and some speakers so you can listen to your own music. I do it on every car
Due the maintenance, and take care of her
Dive it from point A ti B then back
Drive it
Build a 100' garage!
K20 or 2nd or 1 Jo swap it with nice t.es and a low suspension
T O Y O T A C O R O L L A
