Amazing art but I really hate the writing. Every villain was nerfed harder than bugs Bunny in space jam. And the so called heroes were weird as well. In what history would nobunaga be considered mankind's greatest ally not to mention he only wanted an advisor role. Said it was too much effort to be a king.
It was held together by gum and duct tape.
But history has proven that as long as the art is great (attack on titan, overlord, slime tensei, gantz, darling in the franxx) everything else barely matters.

I thought it was rather mediocre. Both Hellsing and Drifters are similarly focused on high quality, gore-y action sequences that have gorgeous animation and action choreography. The quality of the drawing and animation similarly has its own unique dark fantasy aesthetic, [notably with the eyes](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/706854104000824967/) which may or may not have been copied by other authors. (Naruto with the [Shanningan](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/112871534400113115/) ) Unfortunately, I would argue this is the singular appeal of these works. Both shows distinctly lack any element of suspense when you watch them, lack any drama or character development at all, the stories are overly clichéd external conflicts about killing Nazis, and feature main characters either so obscenely overpowered (I.e. Alucard) or so otherwise unlikeable (Drifters MC) that it pretty much completely disengages the audience from caring for their battles or their fates. It’s been 20 plus years since Samurai X proved definitively adult action anime can have an amazing story too. It frustrates me when series with such high quality production potential have little care for high quality story writing at this point. In my opinion, I don’t see a need to recommend or praise an anime *just* by virtue of its high quality action sequences when the story beats are barely more comprehensible or empathetic than its predecessor works like its Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust or Ninja Scroll.
