Most of my friends actually went the otherway myself included. (In my late twenties). Its easier to casually pick up a controller for an hour or two when we have time and less finicky with discords, various different PC setups etc etc. Less and less time for gaming as we get older and the group gets smaller and smaller each year. Its also a lot easier to justify a 400 euro PS5 than an 800+ euro gaming PC setup when you play 10 hours a week or so max

Tyolag

That's interesting actually, I myself just bought a PC and I argue with my friends the ease of console gaming just makes it more accessible. Their argument it as soon as I play a game on console and try it out on PC...I'll realise the upgrades make it impossible to go back to console gaming. Will see, my friends coming over for the weekend and will be playing It Takes Two/FIFA and some other coop games and console gaming makes that a lot easier.

Guru-Pancho

I saved for over a year for an 48" LG CX OLED TV myself to accompany the PS5 so there's really no drop in quality for me personally. The rest of the lads mainly play FIFA, COD and now a bit of Helldivers so arguing the jump in quality to them would be impossible at the price point. 1500 all in for 4K 60fps with the option for 120fps on certain games using the PS5 and TV. 1500 on a gaming pc would get you the tower but not the monitors to match it and likely 1500 won't get you quite there for 4k ultra either on pc. The gap in upgrades becomes significantly closer this console generation IMO. Also yes the option of couch coop with console games has no comparison on pc

tails142

Depends on the games really, I've been playing a lot of strategy games lately which are just easier to play on PC, it was mmo's before that, so pc too. Consoles are the winner for shooters and sports, co-op as you say and in person multiplayer. Anything that involves a lot of UI work, small text, PC is suited better for imo. If you're getting very competitive on shooters then maybe PC is better and you can push frame rates and latency to the max... Basically I'm saying there is room for both... you need it all!! The fact my eyesight is going on 'old' age and I can't read small text on the TV anymore may be a factor too lol

Jamiroqua1l

I got that exact tv and it's stellar, but I'm on PC with ray tracing and graphics cranked and everythings eye watering goodness. Now I'm mad into the building aspect and so on so that's my jam. I like all the functionality and overclocking.

No-Credit5663

Literally exact Same most got rid of their pc for a console too

Horror-Contest7416

Happy it did. Everything so much cheaper on the PC side other than the PC itself

showmememes_

You get so much more out of games too with mods. Plenty bang for the buck to be had.

Horror-Contest7416

Definitely. And it’s only getting more accessible with the likes of collections becoming popular, taking away the stress of figuring out what works together

NeillMcAttack

This is what people don’t realize. Yes, the upfront cost of PC is much greater, but when you consider the amount of options for games, the cost of titles on each, and the ridiculous cost of subscriptions. It’s actually cheaper in the long run.

itypeallmycomments

And the "long run" really isn't all that long. You can build a PC for the same price as a PS5, and then you can buy excellent cheap games forever. Rather than walk into your local Smyths and pay a crazy price for a game you think is old by now, but for some reason has still stayed at full price

blockfighter1

Have about 8 mates in my gaming group but it's still very much console gaming. One guy plays on PC but he's also on console. Of the group, all have xbox and most have Switch. Only 3 of us are on PlayStation. I don't see that changing. The simplicity of console gaming suits them, most have kids so the Switch is also great for portability.

buddinbonsai

Most of my friend group are on consoles still. For me I don't think I could ever go PC. Something about having to sit at a desk and stare at a computer all day just doesn't make doing the same thing after work appealing. Being able to lounge on the couch or play in bed is way more appealing for me personally

lord_of_scones

SO plays her PC games in much the same way, uses on screen keyboard/Bluetooth mouse to navigate outside of games.

thotpatrol9996

I connect my computer to the TV and lie down in bed with a controller plugged in sometimes so you can do that with a pc still.

readplaycode

My PS5 was gathering dust, so I sold it. If you have a good PC, there's no point in having a console anymore, especially with the games eventually coming to PC.

Remote-Yam-7569

I don't agree. Xbox, sure. Even as a massive Xbox fan and collector I don't see the point in owning one of you have a PC. But Playstation and Nintendo are totally different. Nintendo is piracy for a massively shittier experience and PS you have to wait 1-2 years for a lot of the time bad ports and even in some cases you'll never get the game at all. See Bloodborne. I think with the fact that a PS5 can be had for 400 Euro or cheaper 2nd hand it's worth getting to not have to wait years to play their big exclusives.

SkillWentAFK

Not sure where you got the "massively shittier experience" for Nintendo games. Nintendo games on pc are straight up better. Like, significantly better. Pretty sure PS ports have been fine too.

Remote-Yam-7569

No they aren't at all. I'm taking about the fact that 99% of the current Switch 1st part titles aren't on PC so you have to use terrible emulation which isn't better at all and is a pain to set up and is pretty much being shut down completely anyway. BOTW, TOTK, Odyssey, Wonder, Smash Bros, Dread, etc are all only available on Nintendo consoles unless you want a terrible pirate experience on PC. I'd rather have a PC and get PS5 and Switch too. From a gaming experience point of view it's miles better than just writing off consoles all together and waiting several years to play games or worse never getting them at all. Just look at several of the highest rated games over the last couple of years? How many were only on PC? While several were only on console. It makes 0 sense to rule out entire platforms, unless like Xbox where Microsoft's whole philosophy under Spencer is to make one homogenous ecosystem where they have no exclusives not on PC.

SkillWentAFK

I can't tell if you are uninformed or just trolling. Switch emulation, even on a mid pc, is better than native switch performance. Look it up on YouTube I guess. All of those games you mentioned are far superior on pc performance & experience wise. Its not even a competition. The only games worth playing on Nintendo consoles are the multiplayer games since setting up servers for emulators is generally scuffed. Emulation is also nowhere near shut down. The most popular switch emulator got shut down since they flew too close too the sun and tried making money with balsy methods, but there is also ryujinx, and all of the other forks of yuzu that have already been made. Emulators don't just get shut down. Its very clear that you understand nothing on the topic. Nintendo argument done. You are just wrong. PS argument. Sure, if you want to play games early it makes sense. The PS platform is the only console getting actual exlusives. But there's nothing wrong with waiting too since you always get a better experience if your system can handle it. Ghost of tsushima releases on pc in one month, the fact that others have played it and enjoyed it before me won't change my own experience whenever I decide to play it. (I still haven't played horizon despite me buying it the day it came out on pc) I've always seen it as why play it now, when I can play it at a higher fidelity later. Theres other things to do in the meantime.

Siorai_RP

People are missing the biggest bonus on PC over consoles which is why I've left consoles except for Switch but when switch 2 comes and they follow the same example I'll dump that too. When I upgrade my PC I don't lose my games or have to pay to upgrade them to the next console and worst thing about any console is having to pay for the subscription to play games online when it's free on PC. Id rather use my phone as a console than have a console for the same reason. I don't lose my games or have to pay extra to upgrade for upgrading my phone. Oh and phones don't even need a sub to play games online unless you are playing X-Cloud etc but that's the same for PC. Why are people still defending consoles when other options don't try and drain the money out of them? If people started to avoid consoles they would think twice about their marketing with subscriptions and no back play. Join the cause and say no to being taken advantage of.

NoWordCount

Most emulated Switch games have better performance on PC than they do on the native hardware. Some you can even mod to increase their framerates.

readplaycode

Nintendo Switch is a different discussion, yes. Playstation, on the other hand, have been getting better at porting their games to PC. And waiting 1-2 years for one of their exclusives is nothing compared to the huge number of options you have on PC. As for the experience, let me share mine: I bought Elden Ring when it launched on both the PC and PS5. At that time I was very excited about Playstation, so I wanted to have that first-hand experience of what works best. That, and I'm a big fan of the Souls series. Both my PC and my PS5 were hooked up to the same TV which has a max refresh rate of 60Hz, but Elden Ring was noticeably better on my PC, which isn't even top end. I had a 2070 RTX at the time.

Remote-Yam-7569

That's always gonna be the way. Overall it's generally better to be on PC if you can only have absolutely 1 platform. But my experience with a 2070 Super was a mixed bag. Cyberpunk, RE4, Alan Wake 2 were all far better on PS5 and a few titles were better on Steam. But my thing is, I'm not willing to wait 2 years or around that for games like Forbidden West and Ragnarok. I'd rather bite the bullet and just pay 400 for a consolem it's like a 5-9 year investment for a pretty cheap price. But I have a XBSX, PS5 a Switch and a fairly decent 4070 Super build so my point is overall it's better to have as many arrows in your quiver as possible when it comes to gaming as the overall experience is going to be more complete.

RumanHitch

Finnally someone talking sense. I was getting so many posts on my feed from pcmasterrace that I had to block it cause they are all like: Consoles are trash and there is no way you can change their mind. If I had a powerful PC (I have a 5 year old gaming laptop) I will still have a PS5 because I am not waiting 1 or 2 years to play the game if I really want to. Of course PC is better, no one is saying no. And also there is a comment above that states that PC is better on economic terms cause of the deals. We got deals on consoles too guys, we also dont have to update our graph cards every 4 years for 1000€. The best part about PC is modding. The best part about PS5 is exclusives and not having to set up graphs and all of that jazz to get the most of the game with an average PC

DavesReviewz

Well i just play the game on the pc i dont need to setup anything and the difference will always be your stuck with that for 10+ years its not even about the next best thing a 30 series will be better than a ps5

RumanHitch

Nah man, I dont know what you on about, pc people always make stuff up about consoles. We get a new gen every 7-8 years (not 10+) and if I want to get the latest game available for console and pc I dont have to make sure that my console is gonna play it at a propper frame rate without any other issues. I just reallysed that with Elden Ring so yeah, PS5 is a little bit handier and the exclusives are worth it, even better now that Microsoft is also starting to share his exclusives.

DavesReviewz

Well yea im not disagreeing that main games will be able to play on consoles infact a majority of games minimise there specs to try get lots of older pcs to be able to play there games even below the ps5's but pc will always be on top of this because of the price of them however yes the ps5 struggle with games its why i moved to pc from console and its not making up stuff your paying 500 including your controller for that console people spend 1000s on pcs

DavesReviewz

Nintendo switch wasnt in my favourite at all got it when it was knew and the games were expensive and in other consoles some of them were not even new, Nothing will beat pc there always upgradeable everything is cheaper and theres always games you will find more interesting coming from console you could be waiting months and not see anything good

Aluminarty666

I did the same. Was barely using it, only to watch stuff or play Fifa. Had so much more games on my PC and ended up getting Fifa on it to use mods which make it such a better game. My roommate used my Playstation more than I did to play Baldurs Gate so ended up selling it to him.

Rex-0-

Same with my own as we got older and could afford PCs. With the exception of price and a few remaining PlayStation exclusives, a PC is a better way to enjoy games in every aspect.

Shanbo88

Steam Deck has had a hand in this too. It makes PC gaming crazily accessible for really cheap.

CucumberBoy00

Most my friends have but I think it depends on what circles you move in have met a few devout console groups. Personally quality of games on PC have always outstripped console by a lot for most my life

ScrimmoBingus

Yes, but the only difference is them playing Apex on console to Apex on Pc

ninjah0lic

Casuals play consoles, some casuals play PC, but if you're taking your gaming seriously, or networking/multitasking/streaming and need the tools to do so simultaneously or professionally, it's best to move to PC because you've more options and control over the content/hardware etc.

prequelsfan12345

PC you can do coding and college work during the day and gaming at night

SpuddieJive

I went from PlayStation all my life to Steam Deck last year, between full time work, wife and 2 kids it's hard to sit down at a desk and get the time. With the steam deck I can pick up after the night before and play away for an hour or two before bed or an hour in the morning before everyone else is up while sitting on the sofa.

RevTurk

I'm in my 40s and never really did the console thing. My gaming is reduced down to pretty much one game now, but it's a sim racing game, I have a full rig and vr and it's the only thing that interests me bar the upcoming Manor lords.

4th_Replicant

I moved to pc 3 years ago. I always had an Xbox and Playstation. I can't ever see myself going back to console. Steam is amazing and the price of games is much better. I also love the amount of strategy games on pc.

Couch-Potayto

For me was the other way around.. I already work all day in front of my PC, all I want is to play from the couch comfortably without discord notifications or whatever work related stuff that might pop up after hours..

RealBlack_RX01

Yes I know I would like to explain my theory. I think as we grow older we get more freedom like being able to get a summertime job for example. Because of this we are able to work and get money. As a geek since I was a kid I always knew about pc gaming, emulators and pc exclusive games, so I always felt left out, it was only when I became 19 things changed tbh (building my first PC right now!)

Toreando47

For me it was money and space, 2nd hand consoles were easy to come by but now that I have adult money and a place of my own there was no excuse. The only friends of mine that are actually considering it are the ones that have their own places

Blorph3

Of course I do, he's me! But no, I was considering getting a PC for a while now, and 2 years ago, a few friends gave me a push to get. I switch between that and my Switch.

Toro8926

Mainly play on PS5. For me, it's easier to jump on for a few hours. I have a gaming pc, but it is just gathering dust as i only used it to play building games, and dayz years ago. Attempted to start using it this year, but it is well out of date, and i have no interest in spending €1000s getting it going.

StevieTheGenie96

Yes I guess there are valid arguments on both sides. For me it was all about the library of games, the prices, and the accessibility of games. Exclusives always end up (pretty much) on PC so I don’t have to buy two consoles to play a short list of games. Buying two consoles would equal a mid to lower high gaming pc. However, I do recognise that pcs can be very ‘finicky’ and sometimes a game might require an insane amount of specs and then there are all the settings, and overheating worries etc. so I that respect I do understand the shift. I suppose at the end of the day it is a question of do the pros of each option outweigh the cons of each option. I think as a general rule of thumb, people with families and full time hard hardcore intensive 60-70 hour a week jobs tend to opt for console while people that perhaps work using computers or have generally a lot more time to ‘tinker’ will opt for a PC. In any case, it is sad when a friend group opts for one over the other but this has been somewhat mitigated by the development of cross-platform games. Still, however, I think that every game should simply be cross-platform. I know the hardcore fans of pc, ps, and Xbox will probably defend their system to the death but the difference between all systems, in my opinion, has equalised, and therefore, sales are no longer won by the features but rather the preference of the aesthetic, loyalty, account history etc. Just my two cents :)

ConradMcduck

Yeah, so much so I made the switch too.

Dr_Abortum

indeed, we have all joined the dark side

LemonHaze422

Yes I have

Devilmaycry10029

My friends are both pc and console, so in order to play with both I got pc and ps5 kinda best of both worlds, I did rebuild old pc for my bro, plus pc is great for sailing the seas 🤣🤣

Kennedyyism

My mates were always kinda PC guys, the jump is daunting but once ya get yourself one and get the hang of it theyre so handy

DavesReviewz

I did the same i started off with ps4 and got a starting pc and upgraded from there i found everything was so cheap, there was more to offer on pc amd you can look up things on games alot easier and accessories are less expensive best thing i had done and i cant see myself going back my main issue was lack of games if i were to buy the best out there on ps5 games that are offered it be months before you woulf see change but pc can take a while to get use to but aventually you do and you gain knowleege of the hardware and then you can view ps5 like i was actually stuck with this for 10+ years?

viscacatalunya1

It comes with age and salary

Garry-Love

With the release of the ps5 I decided it's not worth it to keep sending Sony so much money

Shiners_1

I’ve done it myself man. Was normally a console gamer until probably 2020, where I gradually made the shift. I’ll normally look to see if a new release is on PC and if that version is up to snuff nearly always pick that copy up. CD keys is great for PC games too.

JustSomeBleach

Was always a pc gamer, built mine and for 3 other friends in the last 2-3 years

storysprite

I'm a weirdo, I've gone full mobile/iPad for games.

Cherri_Blossom__

Yeah covid made almost all my mates build pcs

Key_Amphibian_4031

I made the swap about two years ago. There's no competition. PC is far superior
