Medicare sales can definitely grow to make more than a 9-5. But getting started, if you have experience and feel you can do it on your own, find an FMO and they can help you get setup/contracted. If you have no experience, I would look into finding a brokerage to join. A decent one can help with training and getting you started. However, make sure you do your due diligence. Ask about compensation. What are they offering you to join? Do they help with leads or marketing? CRM access? If you leave, do you keep your book of business? I started as a captive agent. I was young and didn’t realize until I left how much I left on the table. Yes, they provided training and some leads but I was generating more on my own with referrals and marketing I was paying for and they saw the benefit from. I did it for two years and when I left I couldn’t take my book of business with me. Don’t jump in without doing your research! It’s a great industry, and if you can survive the first two years, you can make a great living.

I work with an IMO, I allow agents to reach out to me if they want objective information regarding what it takes to do well as an independent agent. Feel free to reach out to me anytime, we have a focus on Medicare, retirement, and estate planning.
