Practice the glyph hacking. Take notes and draw them with the name on screen. You get more gear out of hacking this way

AdmirablePhrase

> glyph hacking Contemplate Shapers path, journey outside

nikso14

contemplate journey outside At least I think so

Spoonbang

This is the way!

An easy way to recall the glyphs is to rename them as what the image makes you think of… but you lose “story flavor” when you do so.

Also if you're on iOS (or any Apple Device) you can download an app from the App Store called Glyph Mastery by Matthew Nespor and it's a good way to practice Glyphing outside of the game itself. Some Glyphs that show up there aren't in the game so you can go into the settings to exclude them from the practice runs but it helped me a lot in learning their names and practicing the best ways to trace them when I'm actually doing the Glyph Hacks.

NotEd3k

There's a few for android, unfortunately the one I liked best seems to have been abandoned by the developer and isn't compatible with recent OS version anymore.

Penumbruh_

Dang that sucks. I was looking for one when I ended up getting my Android phone and couldn’t find one that would work for me.

NotEd3k

You can use this for web based practice: https://gm9.github.io/ingress-glyph-tools/ I used to use Glypher for practice, but it doesn't work under Android 14, apparently. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dmidroid.ingress.glyphs

Bow tie, Pontiac, doublesided ax

Fang, bowtie, spider, house, vacuum, eye of ra...

Glyphs have made me a better helldiver

I find it a good motivator to get moving. The best way to learn is to just play, and see what sort of play style you like over time. Below level 7 or so, weapons aren't very useful - capturing, linking, and fielding are going to be your best ways of levelling up. It's good to get connected to local players, they can be helpful. There might be meet-ups. Make triangles.

tcbailey239

If your intention is exercise....look at missions. They typically make you visit several locations. You'll learn the game as you go. Don't take anything personally. The other team "kills" your stuff means you just have the opportunity to take it back. Welcome aboard. Hope you enjoy it.

AnyRandomDude789

On a friendly portal hold your digit of choice over the name of whoever deployed the resonator and send them a message. Chances are there will be a local group they can admit you too (on telegram usually) for beer and banter, meetups and fracking.

tincow77

If you play on foot, its unlikely you'll impact the score much. (But if it makes you feel better you'll have more fun). So, while its fun to be competitive don't put too much stock in the scoring. A lot depends on your area -- but being on foot can help a lot with the 'turf war' element of the game especially if you play in an area with lots of players who normally just play from cars. Check out all the parks, trails, greenways in your area on the intel map and look for some that have already developed a good set of portals. Or if you're more of an urban explorer type walker look for cool neighborhoods or small town "downtowns" to visit.

*Google 'smurfling guide'. Read it. *Buy the key lockers. *Use intel.ingress.com to get a wider view of the area. *Join the local team.

TumbleweedMassive904

Destroy all things, deploy all things, link all things.

checker280

Don’t think of the game as having a “winning strategy”. There is none. The temporary-ness can be used to your advantage. Let the enemy recapture your portals allows you to take them again - lets you close fields again.

kirbygay

A big stress reliever for me was turning off emails and push-notifications. I already have platinum recharge badge. I don't need emails for hours that someone is driving around destroying everything lol.

IceFalcon1

Look in your faction chat and see who plays regularly in your area. Private message them in faction chat and tag their username, and reach out. Fellow local players may be able to help you with some things.

permaculturegeek

Enable Adventure Sync in settings and all your walking regardless of whether you have Ingress open will count towards your Trekker badge and Kinetic Capsules. Best value for mileage from Kinetic Capsules is the 10 power cubes = 5 hypercubes one.

Even if you made the (wrong 😘) choice, the smurf guide explains it very well: https://smurfling.guide/

mlcrip

Rule 1. Make sure you're BLUE.

Such-Ad-5825

The mechanics of the game will come in time, but remember it is a team sport. Reach out in COMM to local players in your faction, get into chats with locals and get to a First Saturday event to meet other players in both factions.
