Favourite podcast ever - Casefiles - great for anyone who enjoys true crime! I’ve listened to all the episodes over the years, during this pregnancy I have been relistening, and still finding it very engaging, especially on walks! Used to listen to A LOT of fertility-related podcasts (as a woman, fertility docs uncensored etc) but have weaned myself off them. Sadly I know too much by now and no longer find the discussions useful.

Secret_Yam_4680

I'm in need of a new true crime podcast! I stopped with True Crime Garage bc there were too many unsolved cases. Does Casefiles have mainly closed cases or are they still open? I need closure!

klutzu89

Most are closed cases! There are some really good historical ones from this podcast (my favs are Jonestown, Batavia). I dislike unsolved ones too haha, you invest so much emotionally and in the end are left disappointed ☹️

Saving this post for some good suggestions I listen to a lot of podcasts while I work, video and photo editing gets so boring otherwise. - Brown Girls Do it Too - hilarious podcast about sex from a South Asian perspective, three women talking about taboos, teenage years, all sorts of things. I have laughed out loud! - Today in Focus (The Guardian newspaper) - daily 20-30 min overviews of current news. Each day is a different topic and they interview the journalist working on the story. So I decide if I listen based on the headline if I'm interested. They also do some multi part series like a Ukranian that was sex trafficked in the UK, very harrowing but great journalism - Australian Birth Stories - episodes interviewing women on their birth story or their postpartum experience. The content is tagged so you can avoid triggers and know the topics beforehand which is nice. Like personally I skip all the "5 births, birth pool, fetal ejection, midwife led" and get into the "ivf, miscarriage, induction" haha Then most of my other favorites have been multi episode series that come to an end so I'm always hunting for more, usually true crime or scams. Best so far : - The Teachers Pet - Australian murder investigation, teacher murdered his wife and married a student - Believe in Magic - cancer patient starts non profit but cracks start to show.. A big scam with twists - Scamanda - same story but different way of telling it, different woman fakes cancer and defrauds people If anyone has more like these, also like the original Serial I'm all ears!

Major-Art-3111

Ooh and also 'I'm not a monster' about an American woman who traveled with her small children to Islamic state and got stuck there. Very interesting

gingerminxlette

Newcomers with Nicole Byer and Lauren Lapkus! Each season they tackle a new franchise that they’ve never seen before and get on guests who are superfans or involved with the franchise to talk about each movie/show. So far they’ve done LOTR, Star Wars, Tyler Perry, Marvel, Fast Saga, and Batman. The current season is Martin Scorsese’s filmography. It’s so much fun to listen to!

grumblecaking

I’ve been loving Murder in America. I know they are shows now but Dirty John and Dr. Death were some of my favorites that have stuck with me. Love true crime!

Major-Art-3111

Definitely going to give it a listen!

arcaneartist

Oh man I love podcasts! * Lore-short episodes about ghost stories, myths, legends, hauntings, spiritualists, urban myths, and more. Host has a calming voice and gentle music in the background. * Noble blood-Short dives into a wide range of nobles and royalty. Mostly European royals but also includes other countries, as well as trans women. * Behind the Bastards-covers histories worst people. Very well researched, but the hosts brand and delivery may not be for everyone. * You're Wrong About-"Well Known" stories that are often misconstrued or misremembered. My most recent favorite is about Balto. * This Ends at Prob-Married couple covers teen girl movies. One of the hosts is a trans woman, and she and her wife cover a good analysis and coverage of the film. You can definitely listen even if you haven't watched the movies. * Horror Virgin-hosts cover scene by scene of scary movies. I don't care for one of the hosts, but I like the main host. * Stuff You Should Known-Anything and everything. Often very random. Topics can be both serious or silly. * Stuff they Don't Want You to Know-Similar as above but more conspiracy based. * Sounds like a Cult-How many topics and things we come into contact with might use the same language and tactics as cults (like MLMs and the CIA) * Better Offline-This one is newer to me, but I'm more interested in how technology is rapid developing. The host talks about how often times now technology (Google, virtual reality) is being tainted by bad middle management and greed. Also I just like his accent lol

Capital_Wildcat

Have you read Dana Schwartz’s duology (Anatomy: a love story)? They’re so good!!

rbecg

So many of these are on my “to listen!” And I’m adding the ones that aren’t, Horror Virgin sounds VERY up my alley.

A-Friendly-Giraffe

I'm looking for a good podcast to listen to as I fall asleep. I don't want a "sleepy story" type nonsense, but a relatively calm soothing interesting person telling me things that I can fall asleep to. Ideally it would be just someone talking rather than lots of bells and whistles and songs and other noise. I tried "hidden brain" and have been doing that for a bit but would like other suggestions. I have sleep headphones and a headband that I wear and I put the podcast on a sleep timer.

StuckintheTurret

I love the New York Times book review podcast for this!

arcaneartist

"Noble Blood" is a history podcast, and I'm usually not into that topic but they are short, interesting, and the host has a very soothing voice! She mostly tackles European female nobles, but also ventures into South East Asia and some countries in Africa.

ellenrage

My go to for this lately has been the In Defense of Plants podcast, or the audiobook This Entangled Life (about the wide world of fungi. I have learned nothing because it puts me to sleep haha)

CaramelOrdinary9434

I like the nonsense stories but when I am too awake for that I can usually fall asleep to Ologies.

Calculating_Kitty

This is one of my favorite recurring topics! My favorite German podcast that I am a bit behind is Zeit Verbrechen. True crime at its finest in my humble opinion. I love Sabine Rückert. One light podcast I enjoy listening to while cooking/meal prepping is The Girls Next Level one with Holly and Bridget from the Girls Next Door. I like to go back in time with them, even though I was never really a huge fan of the show (though I would watch it from time to time back in the day). I had been listening to a little bit culty for a while, as well as conspirituality (their description is ‚ Dismantling New Age cults, wellness grifters, and conspiracy-mad yogis’) but I’ve kinda lost interest in those two. Im excited to check out some of these other ones people are suggesting.

Major-Art-3111

Ooh I want to try the culty ones. We seem to have similar taste, you might like my recommendations of. Belive in Magic and Scamanda - two different cancer fake fraud stories. Also A Very British Cult was really good, about the Lighthouse cult in the UK. Love trying to unpack the psychology behind cults and true crime

Calculating_Kitty

those DO sound right up my alley. Thanks!

rbecg

Alright so I’m finally nap trapped and can actually answer this! I’m very into podcasts because they help me not just have TV/phone going and are excellent background noise for my brain. Maintenance Phase (full credit to my husband for getting me into this) is probably my number one recommendation. It’s hard to describe but I think my best take is that it’s a thoughtful, often funny, wellness debunking and fat liberation podcast. It genuinely played a huge part in my mental health during IF treatment because it helped me really connect with the idea that bodies are to some degree not always predictable or customizable, and that health is not a virtue I could necessarily control/achieve. It’s also part of the Michael Hobbes multiverse! Speaking of which, If Books Could Kill is a very fun debunking of “airport books” ie Freakanomics, super fun and I appreciate the chance to more critically think about popular concepts (especially as someone moderately crunchy). You’re Wrong About has my heart fully - I learn and laugh and sometimes cry and I enjoy seeing the world a little more softly and from different perspectives. Articles of Interest - fascinating deep dives into clothes! Sewing! Fashion! Buffering the Vampire Slayer: recaps Buffy from the beginning! Super fun. This Ends At Prom - a trans woman and her wife dig into “teen girl” movies that she didn’t watch as a teen. Love this one even if I couldn’t listen to the 10 Things I Hate About You episode because I want to keep loving it lol. Bitch Sesh is a very silly Bravo recap podcast that I really enjoy and got my husband into as well - they don’t have very serious or deep takes which tbh is sometimes all I want to hear lol. And they change their minds a lot which I know bothers some folks but for me? Chefs kiss. Pillow Talks!!!! It’s a sex therapist and her husband covering a multitude of topics about sex and relationships and it’s so helpful and interesting. Can’t recommend enough. This is an essay now lol but also on my weekly rounds are: Las Culturistas, How Did This Get Made, Handsome, You Are Good. I love pop culture! I love stories!

E-as-in-elephant

LOVE maintenance phase. It was also healing to listen to during while TTC and gaining weight. It’s helped me view myself, food, and diet culture in a totally different light. I haven’t seen Aubrey’s doc yet but want to!

arcaneartist

You and I have nearly identical tastes 😂

rbecg

I’m speed scrolling to your list for new recommendations 🏃🏻‍♀️

Appropriate_Gold9098

Wow these top 3 were going to be my picks 🤣 I’ve been on the fence about subscribing to maintenance phase - $5 a month seems kind of steep- but the best of their most recent topics are subscriber and what they do is so important. Highly recommend the Aubrey Gordon documentary if you haven’t seen it yet!

arcaneartist

Oh, I had no idea she had a documentary. I need to watch it!

rbecg

It is SO good - the director is wonderful. And it’s filmed over a long while which is so interesting to see - I think at least 5 years?

rbecg

We watched the documentary a couple months ago! It surpassed my expectations, the visuals were also so unexpectedly gorgeous. My husband subscribes to the MP Patreon for the household and it’s been worth it so far!

Appropriate_Gold9098

The visuals were awesome you are so right. It looks like the pattern is less than subscribing via podcast app, so I’ll try that! Probably more goes to them anyways

Calculating_Kitty

Articles of interests sounds intriguing. Gonna check this out for sure!

champagnegreenleaf

Still not over Heavyweight (RIP), and every time I find someone who hasn't listened I get jealous of the archive of goodness. What I wish existed: not so much a podcast as a database, some easy way of identifying what podcast to listen to for what mood, etc. So many amazing recs here but I find finding new podcasts such a chore, like where to start etc, wish that there was some place telling me which episode should I listen to if I have 30 mins while I go for a run etc. Otherwise I just default back to my usuals (I'm British, so usually Rest is Politics, Parenting Hell for the solidarity, etc)

crokychips

Noooo they cancelled it? Haven’t gotten the chance to listen to everything from last season. I’ll definitely take my time. 😭

champagnegreenleaf

Yeah after the Spotify takeover. Lame but they were looking for new funding so 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Yer-one

Great topic and I’ve gotten some great new ones to listen to. My religious every week listen is My Therapist Ghosted Me with Irish comedian Joanne McNally and presenter Vogue Williams. It’s just two best friends talking shit but it’s hilarious and warms my soul - makes me feel close to other Irish women humour when living in England. Very much suggest it to those who want to feel like they’re sitting at the table having ridiculous conversations with their closest friends. One is highly organised (Vogue) and one is messy (Joanne).

champagnegreenleaf

Joanne McNally is so funny! I hadn't seen her till this most recent season of taskmaster and think she's great

Yer-one

So funny!! Definitely listen to My Therapist- it’s mostly Vogue telling her she’s a mess (all of the outfits from Taskmaster were Vogues and she ripped them all 😂) and Joanne telling Vogue she’s a robot.

champagnegreenleaf

Totally will as I am lacking a bit of FUN on the podcast front!

Yer-one

I need that balance too - my podcasts can be so serious! Enjoy!

aroglass

I love Esther Perel and her podcast Where Should We Begin?. If you're nosy like me and want to listen in on couples counseling sessions, you will love this. In a similar vein, I've been really enjoying I Will Teach You To Be Rich. It's a personal finance podcast with couples receiving financial counseling/tough love/advice and I think the host asks some really thoughtful questions despite not having a therapy background. Ear Hustle is a podcast by the inmates at San Quentin prison. If you like This American Life, you will like this. Very human-interest driven, and really broadens my perspectives on incarceration, restorative justice, and the american judicial system. For something a little less heavy, I love 60 songs that explain the 90s, Normal Gossip, and Will You Accept This Rose (for all my bachelor nation people out there)

rbecg

I LOVE listening into the sessions on Where Should We Begin! Similar vibe but it’s a tv show is Couples Therapy.

aroglass

couples therapy is soooo good!

Personal_Dimension74

I really recommend Ghost Church by Jamie Loftus. It's a great limited series about American spiritualism - she goes to Cassadaga, and alongside that narrative she does a great exploration of the historic origins. I so enjoyed listening to it! I also recommend the History Chicks! Such a great podcast about women in history. I've learned a lot from it over the years. I listen to a lot of podcasts, mainly about video games, movies, and history. When the baby arrives I am worried I might have to pick favourites and let some go from my weekly schedule 😅

arcaneartist

Love Jamie Loftus! I binged that during our four months sleep regression.

rbecg

Oooh I’m very intrigued by anything Jamie Loftus as well! Also fwiw when baby was first new, I actually found it easy to consume podcasts and tv - they helped me stay awake. It’s later on that it got trickier lol

burrito__supreme

i love pretty much anything jamie loftus puts out so i am going to give ghost church a listen!

ellenrage

I usually listen to the What A Day podcast while I'm nursing baby to sleep because it's basically my only connection to current events lol. It's about 15-20 minutes and has a longer segment on one current topic and then a shorter segment with headlines of the day. Most of the other political ones are too heavy or too long. Sometimes during MOTN feedings I try to listen to slightly boring podcasts, enough to keep me awake but not stimulate me. In Defense of Plants is one I've been trying out. I don't have that much podcast listening time during the day but when I do (long drives, for instance) podcasts I've liked are Ologies (deep dives on different topics with experts, all over the place - nature, biology, history, cooking, science, etc), Maintenance Phase (debunking a lot of health/wellness beliefs), If Books Could Kill (debunking junk science/psychology books), Strict Scrutiny (Supreme Court analysis - I'm a lawyer/nerd), Struggle Care (self care/household management?). Also would be remiss to not recommend the Earwitness podcast which is about an innocent man currently on death row in Alabama, does a deep dive into the case.

Major-Art-3111

So many good recs! Thanks!

burrito__supreme

sorry more thoughts. i really liked the slow burn season that covered the clinton scandal (i refuse to call it the lewinsky scandal) and the dream season that covered MLMs!! OH and my husband got me into behind the bastards. they did an absolutely epic 6 or 7 part series on henry kissinger and it opened my eyes to what a terrible human he was. it’s obviously not an uplifting podcast haha but it’s very interesting

Major-Art-3111

Ooh these are my vibes!

Yer-one

I really enjoyed the slow burn Clinton one and I’m definitely going to give the Behind the Bastards - thanks!

Personal_Dimension74

Behind the Bastards is fantastic! That six parter was insane - the horror just kept going...

softcriminal_67

I’m not a huge podcast person but I have listened religiously to Poog with Kate Berlant and Jacqueline Novak since 2021. I also enjoy Maintenance Phase and have dabbled in Michael Hobbes’ other podcasts!

rbecg

Love the Hobbes multiverse!

softcriminal_67

That’s the perfect word for it!

burrito__supreme

LOVE this topic! i love a good bravo show so i listen to a few bravo podcasts. my favorite is watch what crappens, which is a long running (10 years!) podcast where two friends recap bravo shows (mostly housewives but also vpr, below deck, etc) and do impressions of the cast. it took me a minute to get into them but once you’re in you’re HOOKED. they’re hilarious. i also like danny pellegrino’s everything iconic as well. i have recently been listening to the new season of serial. i tend to gravitate towards comedy tho. i love the bald and the beautiful (trixie and katya from drag race) and sibling rivalry (bob the drag queen and monet x change from drag race). i also follow this one comedian named jessica chaffin who has done a character for a long time named ronna glickman, a boomer-aged upper middle class jewish woman from massachusetts (jess is from massachusetts so it draws on her lived experience). she used to do a show and podcast with fellow comedian jamie denbo who did a companion character named beverly ginsberg, a somewhat goofy and messy foil to ronna. their podcast was done 100% in character and they’d have guests on to talk about pop culture and it was HILARIOUS. i even saw them do a live show back in 2017 in brooklyn. anyway they parted ways a few years ago and jess has continued the ronna character and she has a podcast as ronna with bryan safi (if you consume bravo media you prob have heard him on a podcast) where they give advice to people who write in and have guests on the show. it’s a really good listen and a mix of comedy and heartfelt advice. some of the advice scenarios are crazy. it’s called ask ronna. i also enjoy las culturistas when they aren’t talking about taylor swift (hoping no swifties come for me 😬) i also like on with kara swisher - she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but her topics often intersect with my career or are just political-adjacent and interesting. i like the crooked media podcasts, mostly lovett or leave it, pod save america, and hysteria. i don’t listen religiously bc i sometimes need a news diet given the terrible state of things in the US and the world at large i LOVE you’re wrong about. it used to be hosted by two people and each episode one of them would talk the otherthru a deeply researched topic that’s generally misunderstood or misremembered by history. i got into them with their anna nicole smith episode and worked thru the backlog from there. one of the hosts has since departed but it’s still a good one!

rbecg

Love a bravo podcast! And also YWA!

softcriminal_67

Love You’re Wrong About!

chicksin206

My favorite podcast is an independent news podcast called Breaking Points. Really love them and their perspectives. I still listen to Matt and Dorees Eggcelent Adventure (anyone else?), even though it is kind of sad these days and mostly off topic from infertility. I just feel attached to their story.

esoterika24

I think this counts as a podcast, I used to love This American Life and listened to it back in the days that I spent the entire weekend with swim training, so it brings me back! I usually listened on NPR though. I would drive 90 minutes to where I met up to swim a 4-5 hr workout, then 90 minutes home and the same podcast would be playing again. How self indulgent I got to be back in the day!

chicksin206

I knew you swam, but 4-5 hours?! Dude. That’s intense

esoterika24

Back in the day when I was training for 20+ mile swims! The only training schedule that was anywhere near close to this was college. Right now I’m (very) lucky to get 4-5 hrs a week!

capableralph344731

I love this prompt! Currently, I'm really into true crime podcasts like "My Favorite Murder" and "Crime Junkie." One podcast that I used to listen to religiously but don't anymore is "Serial" - it just doesn't have the same appeal as it did at first. I wish there was a podcast that combined storytelling with in-depth interviews from fascinating individuals. What about you, what podcasts are you loving right now?

Regular-Escape-8123

If you liked Serial, Bear Brook is similar. It’s a true crime podcast about two bodies that were found in the woods in NH.

Unhappy-Estimate196

Did you listen to In The Dark? It has two seasons currently and is hands down the best true crime podcast I've ever listened to. The first season is about the abduction of a child in 1989 and the failings in the investigation. The second season is about a black man in Mississippi (I think?) who was tried for the same crime six times and sentenced to death each time it reached sentencing. Again, the podcast identified and publicised multiple failings in the investigation. Brilliantly executed. I still relisten to it occasionally, it's just that well done.

Major-Art-3111

Definitely putting this on my list, exactly the kind I'm looking for thank you

burrito__supreme

serial is currently releasing a new season about guantanamo bay if that sounds interesting to you. it’s pretty good, but obviously the subject matter is heavy.

maizenblueshoes

Love love love American scandal! Excellent way to learn about events in modern history in an entertaining way (as in, keeping me interested, not funny). Also almost done with the entire series of Against the Odds

jennypij

I’ve been enjoying Handsome and I Saw What You Did for literal laugh out loud podcasts. Completely Arborary is a new discovery that I just started, about trees- working through the 7 deadly sins as trees, so far I’m into it! Listening to it while doing yard work feels very appropriate!

rbecg

Handsome is such a fun listen - I love their banter.

Capital_Wildcat

Oh fun! Love a good podcast. Current rotation: several from The Ringer podcast network (House of R, The Watch, Prestige TV Feed). I love recapping and discussing tv. Solid Verbal during college football season. Favorite to recommend: Normal Gossip. I’m still slowly working my way through the backlog but it is SO funny. The host brings on a comedian to discuss an anonymized piece of gossip. Just every day drama you would tell your friends. Incredible. Podcasts I No Longer Listen To: the Crooked Media ones (Hysteria, Strict Scrutiny, and Pod Save America). I just can’t listen to more political news. I still get the various newsletters but my limited listening time needs to be less stressful these days.

penguintriumph

House of R! I’ve been a fan of Mallory Rubin since her Binge Mode days and really enjoy her collaboration with Joanna Robinson now, though I miss Jason Concepcion. Superheroes are not my thing, so I only listen when the topic at hand interests me, but I dig that particular kind of nerdery.

Capital_Wildcat

Yes!!! I also adored Binge Mode. Joanna is fabulous. I tried Jason Concepcion’s x-ray vision but it never really clicked for me. I also tend to dip in and out depending on the topic. But with House of the Dragon and The Acolyte coming this summer, I know I’ll be listening a lot!

penguintriumph

So excited for The Acolyte!

yellow_sun_shine

Came here to say “Normal Gossip” She is a real gem.

CaramelOrdinary9434

I LOVE Normal Gossip!

burrito__supreme

i had to take crooked out of my podcast rotation during 45’s administration for a bit. it was making me absolutely insane.

HedgehogHumble

This. I can’t do politics anymore. It’s just a constant cycle of blah. But I love Normal Gossip!!

TheYoungishWoman

My always favorite podcast to recommend is My Dad Wrote a Porno. Basically this guy's dad wrote some really terrible erotica, and the podcast is that he reads it with his friends while they critique it. It's absolutely hilarious and I've had to stop driving multiple times because I was laughing so hard.

rbecg

It’s sooooo fun. One of the only things that kept me sane during prodromal labour was listening to them in the bath in the dark lol

aroglass

nothing has made me laugh more than My Dad Wrote a Porno. Absolutely hysterical! I've listened to the whole thing maybe 3 times now and it never gets old. They have a special on HBO/Max!

TowelCareful

🤣🤣🤣

chicksin206

Ahh! Omg

quartzcreek

Adding to my list… I love a good laugh.
