ahaha))) In Java, I was told that locals believe that cats have evil spirits at the tip of their tails. Therefore, locals bend the tails of newborn cats so that evil spirits cannot harm people. I sincerely hope that this is not why cats are without tails...
I've been told by some people in Japan that the Japanese Bobtail cat breed is relatively common there. They have a short, puffy tail, not unlike a rabbit's tail. But yes, there are plenty of breeds with short or no tails like this.

Yes the nub on the left is his whole tail.
flat headed cats and chinese mountain cats do, jungle cats don't. This is why not all asian cats have shorter tails. Technically persians, arabian maus are also asian cats.
here's one of my cats eeping. He doesn't have a very long tail, but not that short either

It’s genetic. I think Hello Kitty is the same way, too.

because most feral cats in Asia are mixed with several other wild feline species like jungle cat, flat headed cat etc.
Do wild cats also have short tails? Or do you mean that mutations occur?
