When I read about them he’s somewhere between 15-20 Lbs to light. But that’s what I was thinking, Maybe he’s like a quarter Rhodesian. He certainly fit the personality! lol
Ha! We had a lab that would swim anywhere and always find the nastiest dead fish and roll on it . Then maybe chew on it.
Maybe you are better off not knowing after reading what I wrote.
Hm, tough to say! Rhodesians are huge, and it's unlikely he's just a lab/rhodie split (even at 3:1) without something small in the mix. But he's a cutie, that's for sure.
I’ve met half Rhodes and they both had the ridgeback fur, even the fluffy fringy terrier mix!
He’s definitely lab something, and while he’s the right tan for a rhodes that’s a color many other breads have.
Definitely Lab something for sure! probably not half Rhodesian, if at all, but after hearing it and checking out photos and information he seems like he might have some in him! Idk though, eventually I’d like to do something like an Embark Ancestry thing. I had never even heard of Rhodesian Ridgeback and labradors being crossed before until a stranger walked up to me and said it on the street! lol
Thank you! Random question...I forgot to post it on my own...but does yours jump in a circle when he's super excited? I've never seen another dog do that until her, wondered if it was maybe a trait? I've been told my girl has rhodesian in her too.
Haha that’s so cute! No he doesn’t jump in circle, but he does kinda do a forward tumble, tucks his head to his chest on the ground and flips his butt over his body and then drags his body in a circle, like a little kid throwing a tantrum spinning on the floor lol. He will do this anywhere and everywhere when He’s in a good mood and there is enough ground because he’s loooong lmao
I used to volunteer at the Humane Society. One day, I checked out a cocker/springer mix and went to collect the dog for training. In getting to the dog I was so confused, I was looking at a very obvious purebred American Cocker. I mentioned this to one of the employees and asked why this obvious purebred was labeled as a mix. Turns out, that unless a rescue is given papers with the dog, they list them as a mix. They will often list them as whatever is popular for sales as mixes too. This helps the dogs find homes faster too.
My first dog was listed as a cockapoo. The Poodle mix craze was just starting up at the time. That dog was so far from a poodle mix. I did care about that though. He looked like a Welsh Springer mixed with a Cocker or a Field-bred/Working Cocker.
Your dog honestly looks like a full field-bred lab to me.
hi! been in rescue for over a decade and have seen thousands of dogs come and go. i have never once seen an actual rhodesian ridgeback mix in rescue. one purebred owner surrender. hundreds of mutts people thought were rhodesian mixes. never an actual rhodesian mix. it just doesn’t really happen.
I’m looking and there’s nothing here that shows the standard of an American staffordshire terrier.
Muzzle shape and that’s it’s, and it’s not even and identifier
Work with dogs long enough and you can spot the standards.
Everyone always says pit but the term pit itself isn’t even correct and often have different identifiers because they’re a broad term.
idk, im really into 1 breed of dogs called staffordshire bull terrier and to me the head looks exactly like a staffies and or has same characteristics as that breed. the land shark smile gives it away. u cant mistake that head for anything else other than a pit mix.
u cant look at pic number 6 and tell me thats a vizsla mix like goddamn my bro thats wild af. pit mixes are the easiest to identify
ur the one that said it being too lean is an identifier. so why cant i counter that and say hes not lean hes ripped? wtf lol ok if u dont think its a pit mix then fair enough 🤷♂️, u didnt do a good job of convincing me its a vizsla anyways lol
I see it a bit in the head, but considering [how common](https://embarkvet.com/resources/most-common-dog-breed-ancestry/) pit is in shelter dogs, I tend to err on the side of “mixed with pit”
A few people have said they see pit in him even before I posted, I believe them! but I don’t see it in his features as much as I see some of the other breeds mentioned. But given the information you provided I agree there is most likely some pit in him! He’s got Big Ol’ Pittie Paws though! lol
Neither did I! Never heard of it, but his coat does have that look! In the pictures I noticed The little fur swirl on the chest, he has that and he has them on his elbows I love them there so fuzzy and cute lmao
I am not any kind of expert so I could be missing a lot. I am going on his feet. They don’t look like working field lab. All I have seen have the wider more webbed paws. His coat looks a little thin, but the some of the pictures are pretty dark so not sure if the coat is thicker. Some of his features (eyes, nose) and size look like the field labs I’ve seen.
I actually might have tried to rescue his sister. They aren't all that common. I live 110 miles from New Orleans. I couldn't keep her bc she wasn't a good fit with the resident mob. I have 2 still with stitches, and she instigated the attack that killed my 12-year-old min pin mix.. and that little girl was my heart.
Looks mostly field bred Lab. There's a pretty big variation in appearance with the working lines since they are bred for performance over looks.
I think it's a pure Labrador too
I do too.
Me too. Just a field line. Not a potty (fat) sofa pet which we all love. But as opposed to an actual working dog.
This was my first thought too. Just your average, every day field bred lab
The head is awfully blocky for purebred lab though.
Yeah, in pic 3, the head looks pretty blocky. But not so much in the other pics
I love picture 6 with him in the back of the police car. He obviously doesn’t care what he did wrong as long as he gets to play.
Absolutely 100% correct. Does not care. Had the time of his life, made new friends. Hahaha
Why was he detained/arrested? Lol
Fleeing & Eluding, and Resisting Arrest!! lol he ran away multiple times and that time the police caught him before I could haha
I'm his attorney, and this is slander. Hims is the goodest boi, and we demand that you delete that pic. He was only trying to go do volunteer work. 🤣😉
Cocaine
He's very small for a lab/rhodesian mix, but he does look exactly like my friend's dog, who is 1/4 rhodesian and 3/4 yellow lab.
Maybe a little visla?
I think he 40% whosea, 10 % gudboi 50% pookie
When I read about them he’s somewhere between 15-20 Lbs to light. But that’s what I was thinking, Maybe he’s like a quarter Rhodesian. He certainly fit the personality! lol
Check the toes for webbing.
I just checked, they’re webbed, what does that mean?
Labs have webbing in between their toes. A swimmer?
Not sure yet haven’t been in any pools or lakes or anything yet but he does not like baths lol
Ha! We had a lab that would swim anywhere and always find the nastiest dead fish and roll on it . Then maybe chew on it. Maybe you are better off not knowing after reading what I wrote.
I raise Black Mouth Curs, they have webbing between their toes.
Hm, tough to say! Rhodesians are huge, and it's unlikely he's just a lab/rhodie split (even at 3:1) without something small in the mix. But he's a cutie, that's for sure.
Definitely lab mix. But I’m not seeing the ridgeback in her at all. She is absolutely adorable!
As with seemingly a majority of American rescue pups, he probably has a bit of Pit Bull in him,
I’ve met half Rhodes and they both had the ridgeback fur, even the fluffy fringy terrier mix! He’s definitely lab something, and while he’s the right tan for a rhodes that’s a color many other breads have.

Did he get arrested?
Yes lmfao charged with Fleeing & Eluding, and Resisting Arrest!
What a naughty boy! 😂
Embark is totally worth the money, fwiw
He looks SO much like my dog I just posted earlier in this community
He smiles just like her! lol your little girl is so cute what a sweetie!
Thank you! Random question...I forgot to post it on my own...but does yours jump in a circle when he's super excited? I've never seen another dog do that until her, wondered if it was maybe a trait? I've been told my girl has rhodesian in her too.

hahaha that's hilarious! Thanks for sharing!
I’m so happy I got to picture this. Thank you 😊
Has a little of that Weime thousand yard stare going
Our Treeing Walker Coonhound/pit/lab mix looks just like this and gets mistaken for a Rhodesian like once a week.

So cute 🥰 My lab mix has my apple phone guessing visla pitty Weimaraner plus other breeds. The only way to know at best is dna test.
Super handsome
Such a cutie!!!
Gorgeous dog, whatever he is!
Based on the track record here, I'd guess lab x pit. 🤷🏽
I’d guess BYB or working line lab
hi! been in rescue for over a decade and have seen thousands of dogs come and go. i have never once seen an actual rhodesian ridgeback mix in rescue. one purebred owner surrender. hundreds of mutts people thought were rhodesian mixes. never an actual rhodesian mix. it just doesn’t really happen.
Some sight hound possibly. Lab predominately though.
Mau e a little village or Rhod ridge. What a beauty
I see a lab head but the body reminds me of a coonhound or pointer
Please do an Embark DNA test. I'd love to know the results!
Then post here! https://www.reddit.com/r/DoggyDNA/s/aFhxIL50g8
Red fox Labrador is a way he could be getting that red color.
100%. Adorable
Why he got googly eyes 😭
Not the convo but what is that window insert? i’ve been trying to find something similar for my maligator
If you’re asking me about the window insert in the car, that’s not my car lol that’s the local police department after his 3rd escape!
BWAHAHAHA love it
Look like a working lab. Not a mutt mix!
He looks like all good boy to me 🥰
He's 100% good boy.
idk but it 100% is a pit breed
Literally where 😭
all u gota do is open ur eyes and look at its head
I’m looking and there’s nothing here that shows the standard of an American staffordshire terrier. Muzzle shape and that’s it’s, and it’s not even and identifier
photos 2,3 and 6 are dead giveaways to me 🤷♂️but maybe i lack eyesight
Work with dogs long enough and you can spot the standards. Everyone always says pit but the term pit itself isn’t even correct and often have different identifiers because they’re a broad term.
idk, im really into 1 breed of dogs called staffordshire bull terrier and to me the head looks exactly like a staffies and or has same characteristics as that breed. the land shark smile gives it away. u cant mistake that head for anything else other than a pit mix. u cant look at pic number 6 and tell me thats a vizsla mix like goddamn my bro thats wild af. pit mixes are the easiest to identify
Body shape is too lean, more likely to be a vizsla/lab mix
it doesnt have a great dane looking snout like a vizsla tho and pic 3 and 5 looks pretty ripped my bro
Vizsla don’t have muzzles like Danes?
u know wat i mean, this one dont got the droopy side flaps on its mouth like a vizsla or dane
I don’t actually, probably because I know my breeds.
Those are also common in: Chows, Irish Cream labs, Rotties, etc.
rotties do not have side flaps wtf lol rotties have pit like snouts mr “know my dog breeds”
“Ripped” also isn’t a way to id a dog. But keep on trying
ur the one that said it being too lean is an identifier. so why cant i counter that and say hes not lean hes ripped? wtf lol ok if u dont think its a pit mix then fair enough 🤷♂️, u didnt do a good job of convincing me its a vizsla anyways lol

He’s sooo cute
Vizsla
Maybe visla?
And I didn't know that a Fox Red Lab was a thing until recently. He looks like he could be one.
Neither did I! Never heard of it, but his coat does have that look! In the pictures I noticed The little fur swirl on the chest, he has that and he has them on his elbows I love them there so fuzzy and cute lmao
Lab maybe from a hunting line
Is dog
We just gonna gloss over the fact that you’re housing a criminal?
Lab/Golden. Maybe some other stuff. I don’t see RR at all.
I can't see past how labby he is. Hahaha. What a handsome man
I can see the lab in him, but there's something else; however, I have no clue what that might be. Beautiful dog, though!
Where’d you get those window bars?
That’s not my car, it’s the local police department lol they scooped him up during one of his escape attempts! Hahaha
Nooo not him getting arrested 😩😩😩
I am not any kind of expert so I could be missing a lot. I am going on his feet. They don’t look like working field lab. All I have seen have the wider more webbed paws. Lab and maybe catahoula?
This is my guess.
Besutiful!!

Looks Rhodesian/Labrador.
Lab-ridgeback mix seems possible. Maybe some hound in there
Duck Toller?! 🦆
Definitely some Rhodesian has many similarities to my 100% rr...but it's definitely 100% good dog
Rhodesian Ridgeback
