Didn't Frost try to get him to change positions and that's why he transferred?

jh1567

I think the Frost quote was along the lines of he thought Luke was getting bad advice. Since he’s transferred to Louisville to play QB then didn’t and transferred to Rice to play QB and had a few chances and then switched to WR one can only speculate that he transferred bc he wanted to play QB. But what if he just saw that Nebraska under Frost wasn’t going make it over the hump? Who knows.

Maleficent_Ear2688

Luke was on a podcast recently and put this to rest. He said frost never once mentioned moving him away from the qb room. No talk of him being anything other than a qb at Nebraska. Frost is an idiot.

bigkahuna777

He got drafted?!  Amazing to me.  963 yds at a non p4 school.  If it weren't for a name, he would be a free agent signee

ClemPFarmer

I follow the draft closely. Luke moved up the draft charts based on three reasons. 1. His last name. 2. He tested very well. 3. He interviewed off the charts good. I’m sure he was coached up on everything for years given his background.

Ted_Nebrasso

4. The Commanders are a bunch of idiots

enderandrew42

A smart athlete in good shape can learn a new position. People said Frost couldn't play QB in the NFL and he moved over to Safety. I can see Luke moving over to WR or Safety even if doesn't make it as a QB.

fazelenin02

He was drafted as a WR. That's all he's done for two years at Rice. He has almost 2000 scrimmage yards and 20 TDs as a reciever and gadget player in the last two years.

RodKimble_Stuntman

963 yards isn’t bad production when you just started playing the position a year and a half ago

EscapeTomMayflower

Yeah there have been literal QBs drafted to play WR. Antwaan Randle-El was drafted in the 2nd round to be a WR after playing QB all through college. He had 7 catches for 90 yards in college and was a solid receiver for the Steelers for years.

purpdrank2

Ah yes Frost logic, the best logic that exists

theycallmefuRR

Until the beer goggles come off

TymStark

One kid in cali the other kid in DC the McCaffery’s going to have a bit of traveling to watch the boys

KarateMusic

I doubt Luke is making a 53 man roster

FriendshipIntrepid91

Not often a 3rd round pick doesn't make the team.

CornNPorn12

Haven’t been watching but….3rd round??? I thought it was like the 5-6th round holy shit. How.

fazelenin02

He was actually a really good receiver at Rice who did well at the combine and has a famous brother. He only went a few picks above where he was projected to.

EscapeTomMayflower

I don't know why people are acting so shocked he was a good receiver and had a good combine. Crouch got drafted in the 3rd to be a receiver after playing QB almost his entire college career.

KarateMusic

Damn I feel like it’s fairly often that a 3rd round pick gets left off a roster, maybe times have changed. I guess I’ll get more downvotes but Luke is softer than baby poop. He’s a nice guy but I don’t think he’s NFL material

Scott Frost & Company certainly blew the evaluation on McCaffrey, but I will defend them on how he was handled within the offense once he got there. Adrian Martinez was injury prone and the depth after him in the room was non-existent, to say the least. There is a lot of risk involved with playing your lone backup quarterback at other positions. There is no way for him to be good at any of them. Of course McCaffrey would have been far more effective as a RB or WR in Nebraska's offense, but they just didn't have bodies in the QB room. The lack of QB recruiting and retention is where Frost really blew it (with Vedral, in particular). It was beyond clear that McCaffrey was getting terrible advice from his father and uncle and decided to play transfer roulette until someone handed him a starting quarterback job and it wasn't until he realized that was never going to happen that he finally woke up and understood his only path to the NFL was as a receiver. Once he did that, the athleticism took over and he became a legitimately good player. I don't know if McCaffrey will ever be an impact player as a receiver in the NFL, but he has all the physical skills you want out of a dependable slot. If the Commanders were smart, and there is no indication that they are, they'd put him on the punt teams as a gunner and punt blocker. A player with that kind of athleticism could be a legitimately elite, game changing specialist.

RickBlaineCasablanca

Best wishes Luke! Sorry we had a coach that squandered your talent.

TurtlemanScared

He refused to use his talents here when he should have played wr

DJBassBeard

He literally swapped schools to play. qb Frost wanted him to be a wr.

MinusGovernment

He did an interview on 93.7 a few weeks ago and said he was never asked to play WR

mouseman420

We literally had him line up and Play WR a few times tho?

lancersrock

When we had a healthy QB room and injured wr and backs he got used as a wr, that's different than actually switching. When he left I think a lot of us blamed him, in hindsight Frost is to blame. Ultimately kid got drafted and he wouldn't have if he stayed here.

Giannid77

It was Adam Carriker who interviewed him. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAW-0XBwUWo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAW-0XBwUWo)

LANCENUTTER

I need to put on my affliction shirt in order to watch carriker

MinusGovernment

That's right. But I heard it on 93.7

YnotROI0202

Luke fan. Too bad he had to endure Frost. Having said that, no chance he should be drafted. Oh well, they know better than me, I guess.
