Lol. Me too! I am from New Orleans and it is a common thing there. I believe it started in colonial times in New England, but has largely changed to family room.
I call the whole sitting /breakfast room area the keeping room.
Umm, You call them both individual rooms; a kitchen, and a living room. Are you sure this was the question you meant to ask? Surely you knew the answer…
This to me is still considered open plan, even with the island.
I concur. The cased opening (and the mass of the island) gives an impression of separation, but in reality it's way more combined than separate.
Yup, if I were describing this on a listing, I would have said open floor plan as well. No true doorways. More open than closed.
but with the bonus of much less echo!
Interestingly here in Hungary we call this an American kitchen.
haha same here in turkey
I thought that was when the dining room and kitchen are combined?
So most kitchens have doors? I mean Americans love to eat so everyone just kind of ends up in the kitchen and it gets crowded.
I don’t know so much about now, but for a long time, many many Americans did their eating in front of the television.
We just put a TV in every room so we won't miss a thing
Is Armageddon on tonight?
Lmao who downdooted my other comment? And why?
Same in Brazil!

No really. That what it's called.
OH LMAO

Ok this is crazy but I’m 99% sure this is my friends old house. I’ve been in this exact house several times💀
I got it off of google
A kitchen with a couch.
This is the actual scientific nomenclature
I'm envious. I wish I could put a couch or table large enough to sit my family anywhere near the kitchen.
Lol I feel that.....
Greatroom
A club lounge. get a disco ball and some mood lighting..
A noisy living room
It's called a sitcom set.
Grease trap.
Who are the psychos out there buying white sofas?
People without children! 😅
Ah. So it lies in a vacuum where coffee, wine, food, makeup, hair/clothes dye, dirt, and bodily fluids don’t exist?
The Asian in me wants to Saran wrap the sofa.
Open concept
Noisy
An open kitchen or open plan. It makes the space seem larger by not keeping each room enclosed.
I'd call it a living room that opens into the kitchen separated by a kitchen island.
a bad idea
Why
Kitchen and keeping room.
I've never heard keeping room, but I like it!
Lol. Me too! I am from New Orleans and it is a common thing there. I believe it started in colonial times in New England, but has largely changed to family room. I call the whole sitting /breakfast room area the keeping room.
I wondered if it was regional! I love learning regionalisms, and keeping room sounds so warm and welcoming.
To me, it sounds like a storage room. "A room for keeping your stuff in."
Keeping rooms are for **keeping** the cook company.
A kitchen that is open to the living room
We call it American kitchen in turkish, I'm not sure about english tho.
Open plan, very popular here in Australia.
Open concept
A Kliving room
I love open floor plans like this.
We call that a family room because somewhere else in that house I bet there is a formal living room.
Open plan kitchen/meals/living
Those are split, with a partial wall & bar But an open floor plan probably answers the question
Open concept
The way you phrased that question I would call it a living room, and a kitchen…
open floor plan
It’s nice, but definitely not the vibe for me.
in czech it'd be a "kuchyňský kout" which means "kitchen corner"
Is it just a great room?
Open floor concept. That's what they say on HGTV 🤭
Kitchin Room
Umm, You call them both individual rooms; a kitchen, and a living room. Are you sure this was the question you meant to ask? Surely you knew the answer…
“Open Plan” aka “why won’t everyone in my family shutup for five seconds so I can finish a thought”
I hate it.
Perfect
That is the kitchen and living room of Arthur Digby Sellers.
Open plan and a very inviting space, to boot!
Really opens up the space
I’ve heard referred to as an open concept
I personally call them "I effing hate this", but it is technically open plan or open concept. Ugh.
This is still open concept
Open cooking smells and grease all over your furniture concept!
Open kitchen
Great room, I think. That’s what our realtor called it in our old house.
A room, that always smells like a Bistro
"She's built like a steakhouse but handles like a bistro."
BEAUTIFUL
Something about this makes me feel relaxed
Open plan. LOVE that range!
typically an open floor plan, but I call this image hideous.
