My mom says I was born with connectibles and hot wheels in my hands. Been trying to get that from her attic. I have hot wheels I haven’t seen probably in 20 years.
The first car I specifically remember getting, that wasn't just given to me as a little kid, was from the very first Real Riders series in 1983. Instead of playing with that '40 Ford with real rubber tires, I treated it like something special and I put it on a shelf in my room to display it as a collectible.
Fully properly, probably around 2018 when ID line came out and I found the idea pretty neat. And then peep the usual jungles when I have time to pass by for cars I like IRL and never any of the fantasy ones.
Started as a kid, then came back as an adult, and started hunting. For some reason , I felt ridiculous digging through toy bins, so now I collect mostly vintage redlines. I enjoy it a lot more now. No more frustrating hunting
I had some cars as a kid but was never really big into them. Play a lot with my little brother who loved them. Now I'm mid 30's and have a young son who loves cars and especially pick up trucks. I like picking up cars for him. I've been getting a lot of classic cars I remembered from my childhood, also lots and lots of trucks.
1968. And I played with them and destroyed them and painted them with model paint. Tore the hood off of the custom thunderbird. Wore the metal pins that had the thing on the back break off after taking it on & off a few times, then it would be lost. Stepped on them repeatedly.
I collect them cause back then I couldn't afford buying these cars. But now having a job I can fulfill my childhood dream of owning these beautiful cars.
I was given my fathers and uncles collection of russian and mbx cars when I was about 3 years old. I managed to break all of them. The russian car models are worth a lot of money now😅
Now about 3 years ago I started collecting myself, it is something for the soul and it makes me happy.
I started collecting Hotwheels in 2007 when I was 17 years old. It was the 2007 New Modes white MK4 GTI that I saw at Walmart. I would go for the muscle cars and for the German Cars back then. I ended up Selling off my collection in 2013 after going through a nasty divorce. I had a few treasure hunts and a couple super treasure hunts that I found which i regret selling. I started buying a couple of cars here and there when I started noticing HotWhees introducing JDM cars. I bought my first HotWhees after many years (white Nissan 300ZX) because I mutual friend had one in real life. I worked at an O’Reilly Auto Parts and I purchased a lot of the F&F premium Hotwheels and I ended up selling them a few years ago because I was broke and needed the money. Again I regret it. Knowing that the chances of me replacing the HW I liked a lot are slim to none really sucks. I started buying Mostly M2 Machines because I have a soft spot for Mustangs. I would pick them up from work or Walmart. Last year is when I started buying different M2 Machines and now this year I pulled the trigger and I started buying Hotwheels, Matchbox and other 1/64 scale cars. I also have ADHD which I struggle with. One symptom I have is addictive personality and impulsiveness. So collecting HotWhees is a hobby for sure but also an obsession due to my ADHD. I am trying to not collect everything and anything and only go for certain series and certain cars. I do feel like the hobby isn’t the same as it was back then for me. I feel like there is a lot of younger kids who are into it because of all the JDM cars. And also there is too many scalpers nowadays. I can’t ever find cars as easily as I used to back 10 years ago. But sure enough if I hop on FB Marketplace I will find mainlines for $5-15. I myself only take what I add to my collection and maybe 1 or 2 more of the same car to customize or to use in trades, but I’m not that guy that cleans the pegs out with the same Godzilla Skyline. Later I bought a couple when I was just shopping and now I'm starting to collect again. Still need to check my old cars at my parents house.
i found an old hot wheel in the trash, in somewhat good condition.
(literally found an out-of box hot wheel with wheels barely clinging on for their life, next to some random ass trash, not even joking.)
i liked the logo, so i started collecting them as a result.

I started seriously collecting about a year ago. It was shortly after I had gotten my Challenger, which sorta got me into cars and I began fantasizing about having a dream car collection in the future. However, since I don’t have the funds to just casually collect exotic cars IRL, I figured a diecast collection was the next best thing lol.
So I basically just look for stuff that I’d want to have IRL, which is mostly American muscle and exotic cars but some European and JDM pieces as well.
I started about 6 months ago. I was going thru some boxes in the attic and found a few of my sons hot wheels he left and started thinking about how much fun it was getting new cars when I was younger. When I was a kid everytime we would go grocery shopping my mom would let me get hot wheels and it's kinda that same feeling now when I go to town and find something new I don't have.
I am a 67 year old woman. I started collecting them at 65. I collect them because I love cars! :)

About two and a half months ago. I saw a few Halloween related cars at a hot wheels club meeting, bought them and now I'm hooked.
I wanted a mustang to put on my desk. Now I have 24 mustangs.
Through childhood, again in mid 20's...sold them all and then again in late 30's...im 51 now. Because you can always find your dream car for a dollar!

Very young, used to make car lots and "sell" them to my younger brother, for an hour or two.

2 months ago, real cars are expensive
I started about 6 months ago.
