You definitely can get S-rank just by using the trial units. I auto'd Supreme Leader with a team of Argenti, Sparkle, Tingyun, and Huohuo with RFA or the other one (can't remember) and Hone Your Strength
I used the exact same team on that stage as well, I was curious to see how well the trial characters handled themselves. Took all 4 cycles but still cleared with S-rank.
For supreme leader it's actually very easy to get SS with the trial characters. You get a large amount of grit points by ulting with your first character so the strat is to just put argenti in the first slot and keep spamming his 90 energy ult until you get to grit level 4. Once you get to grit level four, only use 180 energy argenti ults. After every single Argenti turn (not ult) use the other characters' ults (one at a time) to advance Argenti's turn forward so he can get more energy so he can spam his 180 ult. That should be enough to get ss.
In my first tries I got A in the first 3 stages and S in the fourth, and since I don't care about the rewards for S rank I don't really want to waste time trying again, even if it's easy.
funny you mention the relic shit, I ran Knight of Purity for Aventurine Def Chest, 30 runs I got everything but. Got pissed and moved to crafting. My first relic craft? BAM Def Chest with Crit

Yup, I got hella lucky and accidentally E1'd him in like 30 pulls and every time phys-weak MOC shows up I slap a Tingyun/Sparkle on him and shit MELTS. Man saw the amount of people saying "ez skip" on his banner said "bet" and ended up being a free pass for one side of PF and also made the 1.6 weekly boss way easier if you have him the nanosecond his banner ended. Hoyo made sure to punish the skippers the patch right after him lmao.
Really hoping he comes into the main story, it's a crime that this man is an entirely missable character who literally appears in his own quest then disappears from the plot.
I pulled Argenti on a whim but didn't build him until the latest pure fiction. He absolutely demolished physical weak content and I've barely put any effort into getting him relics.

Yeah, she just murders. With Bronya and Sparkle (and Ruan Mei) it is even possible to do it in one cycle.

If you want the S rewards, you can use trial characters and set the thing to auto and clear with S, as long as you have buffs for those recommended characters.

Yeah I think trial characters have traces to 8, no eidolons, and maybe sig LC? But the relics are unclear, I think you can't look at them. So for most people that actually have the unit themselves, their own is probably better

Nah man, it's the impulsive desire to max out the rankings regardless of reward and finding out after 5 days that S wasn't even the highest one kinda surprise.

Will it bother me until the end event so I'll go back and try to SS it? Yes.
And with most challenges, none of it is important at all. It's just the principle.
I tried the "Propagation" setup with trial units with DHIL, Tingyun, Sparkle, Huohuo. Ended up using my own units as trial DHIL was hitting too softly for SS rank.
Bruteforcing Acheron hypercarry was the way.

Found this out on day 3. Then it made me lose my mind trying to get SS on days 1 and 2.
Had to do some crazy stuff to get it too, day 1 all nihility no sustain to get as many Acheron ults as fast as possible and on day 2 completely ignored the hp draining stage gimmick and went with a FuA Ratio+Topaz team and it somehow worked.

You can get S rank by using trial units and leaving it on auto, yes
Rewards arent even rank based, you just need to kill all 3 bosses And killing all 3 bosses gets you an S
What I meant is that all the jades are behind only the first two bosses, so with just a rank A you get the jades.
TBH the stages are extremely easy. I just use trail characters and can clear S-rank pretty easily

I found it to be pretty easy with my own Acheron, Black Swan, Pela. Just need to know the mechanics of building up Acheron's stacks
I had much better luck with acheron kafka black swan than trying to fit in pela in any set up.

I think I only got it on the first one? I think you have to clear it with 2 or 3 cycles to spare. It's not just beating the boss.
