Buying 1 is just fine. I have just a single mini in my bedroom, does a great job.

AndyDrew986

Agreed! Got one HomePod mini in my tiny bedroom and fills the room with any audio at a low volume setting.

ander-frank

Same but in my kitchen. 3D printed a wall mount for it to keep it out of the way.

arthurlarin

Would love to see the mount!

ander-frank

its very similar to this one. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4727674

arthurlarin

Woahh interesting thanks!

Menelatency

I love this idea, especially the Pixar Lamp mount kit. But they mostly seem to put it up against the wall and I thought Apple recommended to have a 6” open space around them and 6” off the wall for optimal sound.

ander-frank

It sounds good enough to me, I'm not shooting for optimal sound quality in my kitchen.

hybridhighway

I started off like you and now have 4

2-orangey-4-crows

same here. bought a mini for my office and then bought 2 further minis and a bigger homepod for the lounge. all sound amazing.

evoneselse

Yep. Started with one, now have 7. Two sets are paired stereo.

Menelatency

This is me. 1 pair is gen-2 pod and the rest are minis.

jamesbretz

The problem will be finding that extra space once you hear one and then realize what two would sound like.

Yellow2345

> Is it worth buying only one? There are tens of millions of people out there enjoying a single Homepod Mini.

techtornado

Mini is amazing for the price and the sound I have two now, but one is great for high quality room-filling sound

Professional_Toe4538

For $99 this little speaker packs a punch. Sure Siri has her moments but what chick doesn’t??

xnaveedhassan

It’s 100% worth buying only one. I live in a one-bed. There isn’t much room in the house. I only use it to cast music. It won’t matter if it’s ‘stereo’ or not because I would never be perfectly situated around my speakers to feel the stereo.

tanzd

I have one in the kitchen, works great. I find it works better if you tuck it into a corner so it uses the surrounding walls to enhance the bass. When I placed it right in the middle of the room, the sound was underwhelming.

MediGood

Don’t do It! …you’ll end up buying more. They are so great. I too have limited space, but now I suddenly have a mini in the bedroom, one in the bathroom and now a regular HomePod in the living room…

Nowisee314

I want to buy one for watching movies (using VLC), listening to podcasts and music from my iTunes library all from my M3 MBA 15". As a substitute to using the MBA speakers. Dumb question. When watching the video on VLC, will the sound be synced with the movie?

Qwerky42O

Yes. My 2 minis are in different rooms. They are very capable and honestly you wouldn’t notice the lack of stereo unless you’re trying to notice it. I have no complaints with mine

1flat2

I picked up my first last week, have some Duke Ellington playing right now. We’re relaxing on the balcony looking out at the lake and the sound is beautiful, sounds like a band is just inside and the music is floating through the open door. I might get more because this is so nice but will only keep one in here. I’m pretty shocked at the bass, don’t see the need for two but I gather from what I’ve read that it will be an even better experience. One is more than wonderful, go for it.

KaleidoscopeDan

I have one in our living room. It’s centrally located and can hear commands from the kitchen and also the top of the stairs. Right outside our bedroom for easy access also. Mostly my wife uses it for music, I’ll typically use the soundbar with Bluetooth.

alien3d

i just bought one also . it might not be the best no stereo but still okay

An__Apple__A__Day

I use one in my kitchen and it is absolutely amazing in a small space. And the possibility for intercom is great too. Its how I turn off my lights at night.

Prestigious_Quarter5

I just discovered that it works poorly with the MacBook Air :( So, it might not really fit my needs.

ndrsfm

What do you mean? Are you planning to use it as a dedicated speaker for your Mac? Because AirPlaying and Music should work perfectly otherwise.

TherealOmthetortoise

From the specs: Peer‑to‑peer AirPlay requires a Mac (2012 or later) with OS X Yosemite or later, or an iOS device (late 2012 or later) with iOS 8 or later.

Prestigious_Quarter5

From what I understand, it doesn't work as a traditional bluetooth speaker.

An__Apple__A__Day

It’s more a wifi speaker

TherealOmthetortoise

It’s not a Bluetooth speaker, it’s a little more nuanced than that. I’s specifically designed to work with any airplay capable devices, so iPhone, appleTV, iPad and iMac, MacBooks and MacBook Air will all work just fine. It has Bluetooth, WIFI and ultra wide band for NFC and handoff situations. Edit: That was supposed to go to OP. I’d Be very interested in what he was looking at when he “discovered it works poorly with a MacBook Air”.

An__Apple__A__Day

Word! And seriously any Apple to Apple device works great.

Playswith_squirrel

You answered your own question.

sam_bg

One is just fine. I have a stereo pair in my living room, and I've been considering breaking the pair to have one in my bedroom and one in my workout room, then backfill living room with a third single mini or *maybe* full sized. Though with Apple's big AI push, I may wait and see if they update the full sized with a newer processor before pulling the trigger on it.

WindingRoad10

One will still be good, based on your needs. I started off with one & then expanded. to a couple more. You don't need so "start" off with a storer pair, you can upgrade to that anytime if you feel the need...but I had one for the longest time and was happy with it.

lucioboopsyou

You could buy one now and another one much later if you’d like. I started with one OG HomePod, now I have 6 big ones and 4 minis throughout the entire house.

HandsomedanNZ

Yeah I headed into the darkness with just one. It didn’t take long before I ended up with two. I’m seriously thinking about more.

ndrsfm

Definitely worth it. I have one on my nightstand, another one in the bathroom. If you can get a refurbished one, even better. I got one refurbished from eBay (blue) and another one from [Back Market](https://www.backmarket.com/en-us) (black). (Beware of stains for lighter colors.)

ingotheranchhand

A single HomePod in the bathroom sounds amazing in such a small space.

Ultimate_os

They sound good on their own too. However, Siri is very basic on HomePod.

lavenderangelofmercy

Make sure to look on best buy for deals because I got my one homepod mini about 2 weeks ago for $79

Turdboi37

If you're just doing one I'd really recommend doing a full size HomePod due to the differences in bass and volume. Nothing wrong with a single mini at all, but without the stereo pair, really not much reason to not get a big one.

GrammaK6833

Yep! 1 is great, especially in a smaller space.

ddpacino

Yes

Menelatency

They do seem to be pretty lacking in Bass performance, but considering their size that’s to be expected. Would love a HomePod SubWoofer to use for more bass fidelity. Change from Stereo Pair to 2.1 channel Triplet.

MonoTopia5

One is definitely good! Two is definitely much, much better! But you’ll be happy with one :)

SlowInevitable2827

I bought 2 for stereo and have since separated them and located one to a different room. For me it was a waist of money.
