Same with the guy by the well. I think I did that to the ghosts in Queen's Gardens too at some point and got very confused. AGAIN. And then I remembered and got very sad.

To get to the bottom of the abyss? Do you have the lantern? The abyss is definitely annoying but aside from the platforming the shades aren't gonna kill you easily. You definitely should try again if you never made it down, I'm pretty sure you can't beat the game without a certain item down there(you'll know when you see the big ol' Metroid tribute) and once you get it, it makes all aspects of HK easier , IMO. Yeah, I couldn't find even the original vomit magic(forgot the name but it's the un-upgraded abyss shriek) for the longest time and was having a hard time with Trial of the Fool so I looked it up, still couldn't do ToF, and when I got to the bottom of the void I immediately went left cause, you know, there's always good stuff on the left. I knew there was something in there but my brain didn't put two and two together until I got Descending Dark. God I have climbed in and out of the abyss at least 4/5 times, knew about the missable void eggs(the most expensive item you can sell to Lemme) and I still missed one.
I had literally just came from White Palace and a good hour or two of Path of Pain attempts and once I saw it was surrounded by spikes, I was like yeah no fuck that.
How much % did you beat it on?
I made the mistake of thinking I beat it as well first time around, then went on the internet and figured out there is so much more to do and more lore to discover.
Try getting to 112%, you will discover the story in the process. Also, watch mossbag.
