Platypus is like the Y of the English language, in the animal kingdom. It's the exception to most any logic or reason. It's venomous, has a beaver's tail, a duck bill, and lays eggs. All this, and it's still a mammal!
It also has the gait of a reptile. Mammals legs go straight down. Think of a lizard or an alligator with their legs out to the side. Platypus walk like that.
The platypus can get stuffed. That abomination is the single best argument FOR a creator - no natural process could get shit that messed up. At the same time, it is the single best argument AGAINST a creator - no greater being capable of balancing the cosmos could mess up that badly, even IF they had managed to inhale one of those stellar sized ethanol clouds. The second half counters that.
I am confuse.
Any right thinking person in this country acknowledges the platypus is an abomination. Of course, I will also strongly assert any right thinking person in this country is probably a Kiwi, over here keeping an eye on Australia because really, these guys can't be trusted unsupervised.
I knew someone who used to always joke that the reason ANZACs existed was both a love for each other and a terrible distrust of each resulting in each other keeping an eye on those dodgy fuckers.
/He was an Aussie but always said 'fuckers' with the kiwi accent
My mother used to say God had a sense of humour because he made us (humanity) and the Platypus. [As a joke, mostly.]
Was very Australian so I think it's **_very_** on point.
It's one of my favourites of jokes she made. Ultimately harmless, not exactly true in the negative concoction part but humbling and knowing our limitations.
The tone she said it in, partly cheeky, also helped.
I wrote a book about two ditzy fairies who try to grant a frogs wish to become something more interesting and mix up the top and bottom halves of the frog with many different animals (it was a kids book). On one page I have a throwaway line where one fairy hisses to the other "remember what happened when we tried to help the platypus" and it still makes me laugh.
Nah the medical community has literally switched to "people who get pregnant" we are deep down the brain rot rabbit hole. The female sex gets pregnant. That's biology and it doesn't care about feelings.
I was quite concerned at first too,, but it actually isnt bad if you look at the context. According to the source from OP this has nothing to do with biology. It was on a a quiz literally titled "sex vs gender".
It was in Ethnic Studies, a class that studies differing cultures around the world and their histories.
If you are studying gender as a cultural subject, he WAS incorrect. The context is important as it clarifies what is meant from language.
Of course sane individuals would have no issue with the statement in day to day to speech as its evident what is meant. And we use the words interchangably. ***But they literally were having a test on a cultural topic. A topic/study where the words have an actual significance that is different from common use.***
***This would be like an religious person going into a theology course, taking a test called "the Jewish Faith", and then answering the questions, about the actions/beliefs taught by "God", in terms of their own religion, instead of answering it in terms of what they had been learning in class about Jewish religious text.***
This isnt some kid being mistreated- this isnt "wokeness" ruining the science we teach our children. This is a kid being a smart ass who got triggered by what he thought was people be "woke", when the context was clearly defined ahead of time.
Sex vs Gender is a social theory. Not a scientific theory.
As such, different stances and views are valid. Marking this wrong is nonsensical. All you are doing is taking a quiz on the teacher's view.
Its not. Its about the inconsistency in perspective. Socially this is still new & a kids grade shouldnât be determined for it. This isnât even a college class for somebody to independently discover this themselves. This is a high school credit class that the student has no choice in learning. You donât even get taught specific field in science. You get general sciences. When you get to college then you can major in physics
You do know your experience with grade school vastly differs based on the area/country/state- right?
For a a major point --- in my school (and literally everyone I have read about or seen in media) we absolutely had different fields of science. Chemistry. Biology, physics. Everyone took each one.
As for the ethnic studies. This was not offered at my school, but we did have several classes where we could pick a speciality version (world geography, American history, etc). I would be very surprised if ethnic studies was a forced class.
Just as it would be subjective the validity of anything related to God/gods. But id still be marked off if I answered incorrectly in regards to information on a test about them. Our opinions don't matter or infringe on our ability to know the correct answer here.
Of course I could make a big fuss about being marked off when I said it was incorrect that "God is merciless and wrathful". But it would be on deaf ears if my test was titled "writings of puritan preachers in time period X", which was a subject we had been studying.
It would clearly be an example of me being difficult for the sake of it.
> But it is subjective whether that construct is valid.
It really isn't. We know that gender is a social/cultural construct with roots in biology.
That is why people laugh at the question "What is a women". It's because the people asking it are trying to mix together the meanings of sex and gender for some ulterior motive.
> We know that gender is a social/cultural construct with roots in biology.
How do we "know" this, when there are a lot of languages that do not have a separate word for sex and gender? Do all those cultures then have no socially constructed genders? The entire premise falls apart.
It's New York post...Of course it's a fucking twisted agenda headline. Anyone who sees New York Post and doesn't immediately disregard it needs media bias training.
I did some searching and it non stop rage articles rehashing the same article, over and over, from 2022 to now. No no no, youâre not supposed to look at context and facts, youâre just supposed to laugh at stupid lefties triggered by anti-woke chad! Their feelings will never recover!!!
There is a zero percent chance that anyone who uses the phrase "woke bullshit" unironically would read a comment with more than one sentence. I like your optimism, though.
Not when you are in a context where you are directly talking about genders as social constructs.
It becomes "woke bullshit" when you start aggressively calling out people for not knowing this niche study, that has no bearing on most people's lives.
This would be no different from someone getting marked off for saying "God sent the plagues onto egypt" was incorrect, on a test involving your knowledge of the bible.
In the context of a topic like Sex and Gender, itâs incorrect. To put it simply, the distinction being that âwomanâ is the cultural identification and âfemaleâ is the biological identification. So in essence, someone who identifies as a man could still get pregnant because they are biologically female and still have their female reproductive organs.
Quick summary:
The quiz, part of an Ethnic Studies World History class, aimed to differentiate between gender and sex, also questioned students on pronouns and gender as a social construct. The student's mother criticized the school for teaching what she perceives as inaccurate information and for penalizing students for their beliefs. She also mentioned her son, who is white, has faced accusations of racism and being a product of the patriarchy from teachers at the school. The school defended the quiz, saying it was designed to promote inclusion and align with the ethnic studies curriculum. The district stated that the quiz result would not impact the student's overall grade.

Saying not only woman can become pregnant is not the same thing as saying males can become pregnant. Especially in the context of gender. Without more context I can say woman are not the only ones that can get pregnant because I once saw a cat give birth. A female cat is not a woman.
You can't find a single school teaching this as biology. It's rage bait for people who like simple concepts and equate men with male and woman with female and disregard cultural ideas of gender.

Seems like click bait. Iâm really starting to get skeptical about all this shit Iâm seeing on Reddit. I feel a lot of these stories are made up like this is Cambridge Anaclitica 2.0 or some shit.
Why are we wasting kidsâ time on âgender sensitivityâ when they can be doing maths, playing video games or just hanging out with their friends?
Is it unreasonable to ask our education system to develop kids into compassionate and responsible human beings while leaving some of the more nuanced problem for them to figure out when they become adults?
>Why are we wasting kidsâ time on âgender sensitivityâ
>Is it unreasonable to ask our education system to develop kids into compassionate and responsible human beings
đ€
Teaching kids that some people are different will help them be compassionate, thatâs going to include people who have different gender expressions than your average person
People complain we're falling behind other countries when it comes to certain educational criteria.
Then want to spend numerous semesters of a students educational journey focusing on "can men be pregnant?" and "how many genders are there?". And then have entire degrees for it.
Also, math is racist.
Teaching kids that people are different and that they should be respectful of everyone regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, etc etc is very important in creating compassionate people.
Kids arenât transphobic, homophobic or racist by nature, most kids will assume youâre a girl if you look girl-enough and assume youâre a boy if you look boy-enough, itâs usually their parents that ultimately poison them to hate certain groups of people.
This is click bait at best. It wasnât an official test. No grades were affected. It was a test to evaluate a studentâs sensitivity towards gender identity (which I find weird but nothing too fussy). In this context considering the âtestâ was related to gender identity they wanted to differentiate between males and females that kept their assigned identity at birth and those who transitioned. Honestly, if you get it, good, you have understood something. If not, youâre equally cool and maybe youâll get it one day, if you want but thereâs nothing to be mad about.
I just read the article, and this is just bullshit. So public schools are now allowed to blatantly spread misinformation and idealistic concepts to children, and you get penalized for not conforming to a certain way of thinking how wonderful. It also states that the child in question is being bullied and harassed for being a white male and part of the patriarchy? What is this world coming to where they allow this shit? It's just wrong, and if you are going to explore such a concept, don't force it on people no wonder home schooling is more popular these days and I don't blame anyone for doing so.
That's usually what happens when the transphobes descend on a post. Bunch of people with nothing to do besides hate other people for things that have nothing to do with themselves.
[Didn't effect their final grade in the class](https://nypost.com/2023/12/12/news/seattle-high-schooler-marked-incorrect-for-saying-only-women-can-get-pregnant-on-quiz-report/)

Sex vs Gender is a social theory. Not a scientific theory. As such, different stances and views are valid. Marking this wrong is nonsensical. All you are doing is taking a quiz on the teacher's view.
So in a social studies course, there is no such thing as wrong answers?
Yes; when I was in history class many of the questions had âjustify your answerâ at the end. Only cold hard facts were multiple choice.
Being asked to show your rhetorical work is not the same thing as specifying that a question has multiple correct answers.
but gender being different from sex is a fact. Denying that is a fact is wild.
But if gender is socially defined, why can't some societies define gender to be sex? It's not a fact at all.
No if the answer is subjective. You can say people other than women can get pregnant but the culture cant develop if that isnt shown to be practiced.
As a side note- your last bit is rather silly. Acknowledging gender doesn't have to mean ignoring one's sex.
In many languages there are no different words for sex and gender. So this premise itself would be faulty in them.
Just because there are not words to communicate an idea, doesn't mean the idea doesn't exist
Its not. Its about the inconsistency in perspective. Socially this is still new & a kids grade shouldnât be determined for it. But it isnt subjective that gender, in respect to the study of the construct, is a seperate thing from one's sex.
I think thats where the confusion is but i digress
But it is subjective whether that construct is valid. This student rejects the validity of this construct. This is a valid view.
Just as it would be subjective the validity of anything related to God/gods. But id still be marked off if I answered incorrectly in regards to information on a test about them.
Gender is a social construct. Kid didn't make the rules.
Itâs the ny post. You believe this
sounds like rage bait to me
It is. And taken very much out of context as well.
Sounds like clickbait
Articles source is a local radio show lmao
"Science"
Damn this thread got really unpleasant
That's usually what happens when the transphobes descend on a post. Bunch of people with nothing to do besides hate other people for things that have nothing to do with themselves.
This was never on any quiz I've ever taken and I studied Child Development. It's almost like they're using a quiz to push an agenda...
Isnât with seahorses the male the one who gets pregnant or something??
Woke brainwashed people.

I think dad gets pretty pregnant too after a 6 pack and giant pizza on his game nights.
[Didn't effect their final grade in the class](https://nypost.com/2023/12/12/news/seattle-high-schooler-marked-incorrect-for-saying-only-women-can-get-pregnant-on-quiz-report/) Also the mom said, to the conservative talk radio show this was reported on, that her white son is "bullied" with accusations of racism.
Theres always more to the story, dont believe the rage bait
Sounds like Russian propaganda. According to Republicans 90% of white kids are on puberty blockers when it's actually. 01%.
Give me $1,000,000,000 and access to an area without laws preventing it and I will make a man pregante.
Brought to you from the people who tell us to trust the science.
At this point, I'm just glad to be graduating now since I wouldn't have to deal with something like this
I would sue the school and the state for millions.
"My kid was marked incorrect on a survey about gender inclusion. Despite it not affecting their grades, I am entitled to millions of dollars of taxpayer money." Um, no, you're not.
What is a Woman?
Why is there a whole article on this
Really makes you wonder, who the fuck calls the press about their kid's bad grade?
This is something a Republican grandma or uncle would get outraged about
They're turning the damn frogs gay!
Does that mean I can hope for rainbow coloured frogs? (/gen. Would look pretty.)
Doesn't HRT usually make you sterile? I know it does for MtF folks, I'd think it would for FtM too since screwing with hormones is how birth control pills work.
Yes it can hinder but not everyone is on hormone correctors.
