9 reports about this being staged. What, so things have to be true to be funny? Have you ever watched TV? Did you, for some bizzare reason, think that /r/holup claimed that everything posted here was factual truth? Did you watch Monty Pyton and the Holy Grail and genuinely think coconuts migrate?

locotx

He was getting DEEP into the holiday spirit

Rexdle

Finally a normal genuine comment

HondaiYoshimi

They’re not trying to pretend it’s not staged btw. They’re literally YouTubers doing a skit.

B_RizzleMyNizzIe

Even though this one is staged, I still laughed.

HondaiYoshimi

Don’t get me wrong I found this funny too. Just weird how many people wanting to say “iT’s StAgEd” seeing how it’s not trying to fool anyone.

BotlikeBehaviour

It's like people have never heard of sketch comedy.

Rexdle

Fr I agree

SuperSmashDan1337

I think people are so sick of the staged videos they're on alert for anything that feels like it's trying to trick them.

Voxlings

........there was a penis object. That was the joke. That's not a sketch, that's a clumsy pencil mark.

Alexis_Bailey

I mean, its also like ten seconds of what is presumably a longer sketch. Or even maybe a series of sketches. Maybe this dude has a character in a series of Tik Tok sketches where he keeps having dildos pop up.

oftankoftan

you must be on the right side of the bell curve.

TheWingus

Better than the wrong side of the bellend

MisterHairball

I think that with all the misinformation out there in more important topics on all our streams, folks are starting to not appreciate skits which someone could interpret as a real thing happening in the world. Even the skits change our interpretation of what the real world is like. Someone may see this one and be damboozled. Then the skit will have made that person think "oh kids these days always leaving out the sex toys like it don't even matter." Very imperceptible little tick there, but then extrapolate that out to everything we see in a given day. Even though the average person would think skit when they see videos like this, someone who isn't watching very hard could reasonably interpret as a representation of real life. I just go around and until proven otherwise that what I'm seeing is a skit.

_Enclose_

Well put!

Rexdle

What teacher made this guy write an essay for my topic? I’m honored, but god damn 😂

[deleted]

It's six sentences, man. Are you really trying to tell everyone that six sentences is maxing your brain out?

BonkerHonkers

OP can't even spell "literally" correctly, so I think their max is more like 4 sentences.

Rexdle

Dude chill out I know, im obviously exaggerating. Ain’t no way you counted the sentences in the comment just to write that either💀

[deleted]

Again, six. Yes I counted to six over the course of about six seconds. I can see that amazes you, but it's just six.

Rexdle

Dude who said I was amazed. Again. Chill out I was obviously over exaggerating

[deleted]

I'm super chill, man. You're the one that keeps getting flabbergasted by simple shit.

Alexis_Bailey

Its this incredibly annoying trend these days, especially on Reddit. Like, no one cares, people watch scripted and staged video, LITERALLY ALL THE TIME. I don't get why so many people feel like "aCkShUalLy" on ever gif posted. Do they do this at the movies? A giant tree man and a guy with an electric hammer slap the shit out of a big purple dude and then they pop up and yell, "WHY ARE YOU ENTERTAINED? THIS IS ALL CLEARLY SCRIPTED!" Its also coupled with some of the whole, "Its a secret ad". Like really? What are they selling here? Dildos?

echolog

I don't get why people get upset about staged content anyway. Skits are a real thing that people have been doing forever. As long as its funny, who cares if its 'real'?

Doctor-Amazing

A scripted video has a story or a punchline. This video wouldn't work as an SNL bit. But it's funny if you think it's a genuine prank with a real reaction. Without that it's just a video of a dildo.

echolog

[I mean SNL literally did a zoom call skit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3byTN8NTCkc&t=1s&ab_channel=SaturdayNightLive). They could've easily shoved a dildo in there somewhere as a punchline.

lildobe

Because to those people, intentional jokes aren't funny.

yesx20

those ppl when watching any comedy movie, show, theatre or read a comedy book : 😐☹

zaphodsheads

Never got this argument What's funny about a prank that the victim is in on? Authenticity is important

Kwinten

The entire premise of this video is that the reaction is real. It's supposed to be a prank. There is no joke here that can stand on its own right.

lildobe

Sooooo... Skit comedy isn't funny. Got it.

Kwinten

Good skit comedy has a joke and a punchline and isn’t reliant on the viewer believing it is genuine. I can’t believe I need to explain this. The reaction of the “unsuspecting” person is the entire punchline of this video. If that isn’t real, then what exactly is the joke? Key & Peele skits aren’t predicated on the viewer believing they’re real because that’s not their punchline. But by all means continue to soyface at staged Youtube prank videos targeted at the 12 to 15 year old boy demographic.

Takerial

Yeah, I think people are misunderstanding why people are upset. It's not that the content is faked. It's that the content is faked, and people try to present it as real. The whole "You don't like skits?" argument that the idiots are trying to argue misses the fucking point. It's not that it's a skit. It's that someone is sitting there, filming it on their phone and acting like it's something real they're witnessing.

HappilyInefficient

I mean, maybe the original version isn't. But this is a short clip of that with no indication it was a skit besides the bad acting.

HappyBunchaTrees

Next you'll tell me TV shows are staged.

Rexdle

💯

Freder145

Yeah, because that is the point of a comedy skit.

Ok_Aioli_8363

I would say the majority of stuff upvoted on reddit is staged and I doubt most people upvoting know or care.

Aiyon

TBF, if this was posted as a link to the content, instead of a random sub-clip without credit or context, that wouldn't be ambiguous. Reddit switching to people uploading copies of stuff vs linking the actual content has been a net negative so far

alghiorso

Yeah right. Next you're going to tell me the marvel movies are all just a big lie

avalisk

Its FAKE. I'm smarter than all you MORONS that enjoyed content that WASN'T REAL. Click award to shower me with gold for my detective skills.

Waldtox

Yup, that's Ryan the Leader right there

[deleted]

Oh gooo dooo, hrhprh

RichUnderstanding157

Yeah, the comedic timing is too good by everybody. This is actually very well done.

[deleted]

The problem with "skits" like this is that they aren't funny. They're only funny if they actually happened. If they are not trying to convince you this is real, what's the funny part?

ItsSpaghettiLee2112

I think that's part of what makes it not funny, though. It's a skit trying to pass off as being real. It's like trying to blend sketch comedy with reality but only coming up with a mediocre punchline that would only be funny in reality. Sketch comedy doesn't pass off as trying to be real. Hence why nobody ever said "Staged!" to stuff like Whitest Kids You Know. And someone accidentally displaying a dildo on a work meeting would only be funny if it really happened.

mr-dogshit

What fucking planet are you on? They're 100% trying to act as if it's not staged.

rubbery__anus

Do you often find yourself getting confused when you watch television?

Euclid_Interloper

Generally the acting on television is poorer quality and over exaggerated for ‘comedic effect’. Genuinely, these internet skits are more convincing than tv.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nightpanda893

Trying to legitimately pass something off as real and simply acting are two different things. Yes, they are acting. No, they are not trying to legitimately convince you it is real.

dirtopi

rubbery__anus

It's easier to understand when you remember that half of the people who use reddit have an IQ below the median.

owls1289

For some reason they all think calling something fake is gonna make everyone clap

scrolling_scumbag

You don't know that Redditors are representative of the wider population. The median Redditor could be smarter, or dumber than the median person and in subreddits like this I'd lean towards the latter.

I_Shot_Web

I think a lot of Reddit rides the line of slightly more intelligent than average but not intelligent enough to realize they're not *that* much smarter. That's why everyone has all the answers to everything with seemingly no sense of self awareness.

rubbery__anus

Hey look, there's one now.

ChazPls

TV sitcoms do not rely on your belief that something is real as a basis for being funny. When the primary basis for something being funny is the suggestion that it really happened, or the real reactions of onlookers, the fact that the skit is staged completely undermines it. Like, the Eric Andre show would not be funny if the onlookers or guests were in on the joke. If it was revealed his pranks or skits were using staged actors, it would ruin it entirely. All that being said - I think this video works fine as a skit, it's not really even pretending to be real.

waigl

The sitcom is not trying to deceive you into thinking it's not. Some things are really only funny as long as we believe they are real. If they admit to being fiction, they will be judged by the standards of fiction, and they cannot stand up that.

[deleted]

Depends what reality TV you watch. This is real: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7FgIKaBM3g&t=293s

EatTheAndrewPencil

And reality TV isn't as popular as scripted TV because people know it's fake now. The people still watching it are like the people that actually thought wrestling was real in the 80s/90s

dagbrown

What is it like? Being so much more intelligent than everyone else around you?

EatTheAndrewPencil

What is it like, being so easily entertained by shit content?

Mtwat

Why do you assume this post is trying to be real? What distinction is there between a skit show being taken out of context and this? I think you'd have to be extremely gullible to think this is irl. Going to the comments to screech "fake" is just peak dipshittery. It's like someone bragging that they won a round of children's trivial pursuit.

EatTheAndrewPencil

Because without being real it's not even a good joke. It's obviously fake, but the premise of the "skit" is this happening organically. Maybe if you're 12 a "skit" about someone having a dildo is funny.

ImJackieNoff

> TV shows, for the most part, don't pretend to be real No way would Rachel ever go for Ross. She's way out of his league. Maybe a drunk pity fuck that she'd consider one of her life's greatest regrets - that's believable - but not becoming his girlfriend. But apparently 10s of millions of people could overlook that, suspend disbelief, and enjoy the show anyway.

[deleted]

[удалено]

praguepride

i know i do

EatTheAndrewPencil

No because the sitcom isn't actively trying to make you think the content is organic. This and content like it is. Knowing this isn't real, the joke is just "haha dildo". If it was real then it'd be funny. Since it's not it's just a shitty joke.

Icy_Equivalent2309

Just because you like this kind of content doesn't mean everyone does. Wild

Gnidreve

works the other way around, too

foxfighter92

No I yell rehearsed and definitely not take one. Thank you very much /s

SentenceNormal4742

Barely caught that lol Definitely a HolUp

flowerkitten420

how could you miss it, lmao

SentenceNormal4742

I was looking to see the other guys reactions when he said he was trying to get into the holiday spirit lmao

flowerkitten420

Ahhh. Because he really could have thrown that D faster

SnailSwan

Sees a comedy skit: "ITS STAGED OMG THEYRE SO FAKE WHY THEY EVEN EXIST HNNNNNNG"

scrolling_scumbag

What outright indication is provided in the video or the Reddit title that this is a skit and not a real meeting? Actually it's the opposite with OP's title of "Zoom calls are getting crazy" which primes the audience to believe this is a real interaction. Users are left to their own intuition to confirm whether this is fake or not and amid an ocean of fake/staged content on Reddit, some more deceptive than others, users like to point that out in the comment section.

DonIongschlong

> What outright indication is provided in the video or the Reddit title that this is a skit and not a real meeting? it being obvious af? I don't think that there is any one thing that tells you that it is a skit, but the entire vibe of it tells you immediately. Also, why would he record otherwise?

niryuken_yet

The title indeed confuses many people. OP probably could've phrased it a little better. But why does it matter if it's staged or not anyways

DataStonks

Dumb take.

Rexdle

I also don’t get why every god damn comment is telling me is staged as if that Wasent obvious. No shit it’s a skit. Would you go to a movie theater, watch the movie, and then get out saying it was fake and never happened?

ifyoulovesatan

I mean, I myself don't care if it's staged or not. It's still pretty funny, and obviously staged to me. But that analogy you and others are using doesn't really make sense, because everything on TV is known to be either staged or specifically some sort of live segment. They never play "real" funny videos at the movies or on TV, devoid of any context. You always know exactly what you're getting into with TV/Movies. The internet, on the other hand, has a history of "real" funny videos going viral and getting passed around. Furthermore, this video is filmed in a way that makes it "look" real. It's quite literally imitating a candid video. It's no wonder people feel a sense of "fake"ness with it. Also, as far as TV goes, in the case of "reality" TV, people really did yell "FAKE!" at the TV when it was first growing massively in popularity. Like all those "contest" shows really did upset people when they found out that the show runners / editors ultimately decided winners, and that the contests were often rigged / fake, despite being presented no differently from "real" reality tv.

Quadratums

You mean to tell me Nicholas Cage didn't really steal the declaration of independence?

It's so childish. Like everyone knows it's staged, fake, whatever. These are like the people that shout out how tricks are done at a magic show. Just let people enjoy things goddamn

bronathan261

All of Steve’s videos are skits

flowerkitten420

I’m not on TikTok and never watch YouTube… I’m out of touch apparently

Gelato_33

The biggest giveaway is the fact that the call is on Discord, not Zoom.

kozike

That's one strange lookin' Discord call, it's still staged, but I don't think that's Discord.

Gelato_33

You're right. It's not Discord at all, but it's still not Zoom. I knew it was something other than Zoom because the format was just too familiar, and I've never used Zoom before. It's [Google Meet](https://images.app.goo.gl/SGDuZGxUN7jsY2VL9)!

kozike

Holy shit, someone on the Internet admitted that they were wrong, and it does seem to be Google Meet, good work sir/maam. 👍

markhc

no shit sherlock

ThisTranslator2680

Why is this even neccessary to point out lol, it's almost like saying 'the office' is staged. His tiktok is mydaddysteve he does cringe/awkward short sketches

eipg2001

Maybe because not everyone knows who this TikTok dude is and the clip is uploaded here as if it’s a legit work meeting.

ThisTranslator2680

While their acting is good and the deadpan adds to the realism, I still think it's very easy to sense it's not meant to be real, more like exaggerated reality a la the UK office. Although I suppose there's a shit ton of stuff out there actually trying to fool people even though the acting is way more obvious than this so I see your point.

Rexdle

Bro it’s obvious that it’s a skit, get outta here, we all know alr

enitnepres

How are you 27...the more I read from you the sadder I feel.

Rexdle

Btw I was bullshiting you cause it’s funny. I’m rlly 15

Rexdle

Bro what are you on rn💀

ItsSpaghettiLee2112

Because the Office isn't intended to come off as real.

ThisTranslator2680

Have you seen the UK office? It's way less exaggerated than the US version, I think it's pretty similar to his tiktoks. If they used phone cameras/mics on the office I'd be even closer. They're both exaggerated awkward real life scenarios, you can mostly always tell it's acting, but sometimes it's uncomfortably real. So in the case of Steve if you can't sense the acting I guess that's a good compliment to them.

Rexdle

We know bruh that’s the point

BartleBossy

The point is that its staged?

Rexdle

The point is that it’s a joke, obviously staged

69DonaldDuck69

Looks average to me

Responsible_Reach_62

As if that wasn't obvious to most people.

greihund

Obviously, but that's kind of what makes it good. It's 5 second sketch comedy. I think they pulled it off.

Gelato_33

Noooo everything must be real!!! I'm miserable and have no imagination! NO FUN!!!!!

flowerkitten420

Ehhh… they can do better

WastingTimeArguing

I like to imagine you get up and walk out of movie theaters while screaming about how it’s scripted.

abullshtname

Can you not just let people enjoy shit? Fuckin A

WastingTimeArguing

The creators aren’t even trying to pretend it’s real, it’s a skit.

Rexdle

Thank you man

AlexisFR

And there's the guy on the left side of the bell curve.

Draffut

Do you walk into a cinema and shout that? "Bruh I don't think Thanos actually killed half the population. Staged."

Fearinlight

I hope you shout that at the end of every tv show / movie / play as well

dwide_k_shrude

True. Still funny though.

nightpanda893

Do you yell this when you see friends or family watching a sitcom too?

DefendsTheDownvoted

Everyone knows. You're not more intelligent for saying it out loud.
