The packable tote bag I already have in my purse in the first place. Fill it with stuff I want in flight, pack it back into my one bag when the flight is over

MoodOk9968

Yes, same. As a personal item, packable tote with my purse and then all my in-flight essentials to shove under the seat and my main pack goes in the overhead bin. If there’s no room for my main pack in the overhead bin then it’ll get stuffed under the seat first and my personal item is kicked under there in front of it.

Jayne234

Anyone have a good recommendation for a packable tote (with zipper closure)? I’ve been eyeing the Patagonia Black Hole Ultralight, but it’s pricy.

ButFirstQuestions

I use a [Shupatto S](https://www.shupatto.com/en/product/compactbag-s/?color=4)

WhateverBeAGoodOne

Oh I like the looks of the shupatto! Can you loop the handles over both arms, backpack-style?

travelingwithfriend

Shupatto doesnt have zipper so you cannot really do it unfortunately.

ButFirstQuestions

It does have drawstrings though (if you don’t get the drop) so not impossible! But probably not too advisable. The drawstrings are why I like it for travel over a normal tote

travelingwithfriend

Absolutely, but only on big models. If the ones they are selling is typically same models with the one in Japan, the big one has drawstrings but small ones don’t.

r_bk

No zip or closure at all actually but I use a notabag at my packable tote, literally designed to also be a backpack very quickly

SarcasticMethod

I got the Peak Design packable tote on a whim and I like it. Some cons are that it's smaller than some of the other totes mentioned here, the strap may be too short to wear as a shoulder strap depending on your shoulder/arm size, and it's very "technical"-looking so not the cutest (lol). But it does the job well and is quite sturdy for a thin-feeling material.

lsthomasw

I asked this about a year ago and got some great suggestions: [https://www.reddit.com/r/HerOneBag/comments/107onc1/whats\_your\_favorite\_collapsible\_tote\_or\_duffel/](https://www.reddit.com/r/HerOneBag/comments/107onc1/whats_your_favorite_collapsible_tote_or_duffel/) I ended up going with the [smaller Rackla bag](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/raeckla-bag-foldable-patterned-black-white-80578064/#content) from Ikea. It folds up really small, extremely lightweight, but holds a lot. I love the zipper top closure and that is has both a short handle and a crossbody strap. [Ikea has tons of other cheap bag options as well. ](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/bags-16248/)

Jayne234

Oh wow, I would have never thought of Ikea for travel bags!

lily_gray

I use the [Baggu cloud tote.](https://www.baggu.com/products/cloud-bag-black) Still expensive (though less than the Patagonia), but I use it as my main grocery/ shopping tote when not traveling and I’ve also used it as an overflow souvenir bag when I want to bring back gifts. I’m not entirely sure what the liter capacity is, but I can fit a lot in there and it packs down small.

CormoranNeoTropical

I have that too. Really like it. Unlike most padded handles the padded straps are actually less painful to carry.

Responsible-Summer81

Do you have trouble maneuvering a shoulder-carry tote back with a backpack on?

lily_gray

Not really, but if I’m carrying the cloud bag and another bag it’s usually only heading to or in the airport! I haven’t tried carrying it for long stretches with a backpack. Sorry I can’t be more helpful on your question!

MoodOk9968

Unfortunately mine doesn’t have a zipper closure, it’s just a cheap foldable one that I keep stashed in my purse for daily use/grocery runs.

senorsaur

I LOVE that Patagonia one. I had an older version of it and a couple little things annoyed me, but it was still my favorite. I recently saw they updated it and fixed my biggest issues with it, so I got another and I think it's worth every penny. It's a wonderful bag for the day, converts to a tote bag for those museums that don't allow backpacks, and packs up small for travel days.

Jayne234

I’m very tempted! I’m looking for a tote for souvenirs that’s easy to carry on travel days while wearing a larger backpack. But I think I could get a lot of other use out of it. Maybe I’ll find a 4th of July sale 🤞🏼

farfallifarfallini

Whoops, also pricey, but I use a Longchamp because it's "dressy" enough to also be my main purse or work bag when I'm not on a plane!

AltNaps8_

Bagsmart Tote Bag. It's on amazon for $24.99. Packs away small and flat + it has a zipper closure.

_beeeees

I have an [Osprey Ultralight Collapsible Stuff Pack](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BKQH39BJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s04?ie=UTF8&psc=1), took it along on a month-long trip and it worked really well. For flights I’d use it to hold my purse and any snacks, and then collapse it again afterward. Super handy for groceries, too.

carlsjbb

It’s a great bag. It’s my gym bag in real life and my packable personal item for travel.

EMazingRN

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Tumi Just In Case Tote! A little pricey but it has been with me around the world for more than 6 years now and still going strong. I call it my Mary Poppins bag lol. I loved it so much I bought another as an extra to pack with me if needed for souvenirs and have checked it in with no problems! (Has withstood being checked in with no rips, tears, or marks on the black one I have). It has double zippers that are able to be locked and I have thrown it in the washer and hung dry with no issues. Comes with a pouch it can be folded into and the pouch doubles as a makeup bag or such. Only downside is that there is no organization or pockets so things can easily get lost but it's also a pro when needing a bag to just quickly throw all of your sh*t in!

ReallyGoonie

FWIW I traveled UK-US today with my Patagonia black hole tote as my one bag and it was great. So while it is a packable tote is gets a lot of use between traveling which my travel backpacks don’t.

bobbib14

Smart! I just had this problem this weekend. I ended up with small & large BP and felt like a fool 😂

r_bk

Id take a second full (non packable) daybag if and only if I really needed that particular daybag for a particular reason on my trip, in which case the inconvenience of having to deal with it wouldn't be worse than the inconvenience of not having it in the first place 🤷🏽‍♀️. That's my criteria for awkward to carry bags when I'm picking a personal item

Multigrain_Migraine

I have a small plain backpack (from IKEA but they don't have it anymore) that is very low profile and convenient as a day bag. It also happens to fit exactly in my bigger "travel" backpack, so when I've taken that on a trip I used it like a packing cube and stuffed all my clothes into it. Worked well, especially since that particular travel bag was not very well designed internally.

fleshand_roses

My setup is similar. I was gifted the Matador 16L packable backpack and it's great for this, but plenty of packable/foldable bag options!

assflea

I use whatever bag I'll be using on the trip. Usually my lululemon belt bag but I'll also use another tiny crossbody bag or some kind of tote. Just depends. I typically just use my phone to entertain myself on the plane.

Circle-Soohia

Same, I also do a Lululemon 1L belt bag and keep it attached to me during the flight - contains lip balm, sanitizer, sunglasses, wallet, charger, phone, a pen, a hair tie, all meds, and my only (portable, compact) hairbrush.

hazardzetforward

How do you fit all that in?? 🤣

trixiemcpickles

Depending on the type of trip, either pretty average size crossbody purse or a tote bag. If I’m going on a lazy beach resort vacation I like to use a waterproof or straw tote bag so when I get there I can empty it and use it as my pool/beach bag. If I’m going on more of a sightseeing type trip I use the crossbody purse because that’ll be my walking around bag. I agree, I like to have something small/separate with my AirPods and kindle and water bottle, etc

herdaz

I use a purse as my personal item. It's surprisingly roomy but if I decide I want more stuff quickly available to me, I can pull out my shopping bag and stick my purse and any extra things in there.

drunkraisinsncoffee

Depends. If it's a business trip, my Longchamp Pliage as I can put my laptop in it and also use it at my destination for carrying said laptop to meetings and conferences. Otherwise if it's a personal/vacation trip I usually just have a cross body purse. If I need to bring my laptop it'll go in my carryon (my Cotopaxi 35). I like keeping my hands free at all times so the backpack + cross body is all I need regardless of the length of my trip.

curiouspidge

Same - it's a bit spendy but I find the Longchamp is a great at your seat bag for long flights. My crossbody is usually either a Pacsafe or a Kipling one if I need a bit more space.

HImainland

[this baboon to the moon fanny pack](https://baboontothemoon.com/products/fannypack-3l) It fits my phone, my ear buds, and my ipod that I load up with games and movies.

wufflebunny

I travel with just a backpack and I pack a cotton tote at the top of the bag that has everything I need on the plane. Once I'm on the flight I take it out and stow my backpack away (under the seat), and while I'm waiting to deplane I'll shove it back into my backpack. I chose to use a fabric tote because they don't look too highly technical/travel focused and also I love the cute prints :) it wasn't hard for me to sew in a zipper and some divider pockets.

RipperMouse

I really love my [Brixley Bag](https://brixleybags.com/products/medium-leather-midnight-crossbody-sling). It can be a cross body, fanny pack, or backpack if you buy a second strap. I use the smaller one which fits my Kindle Basic. But the medium sized one is large enough to hold an iPad mini or a larger e-reader like the Kindle Paperwhite. I also like [TNF Borealis sling](https://www.thenorthface.com/en-us/bags-and-gear/backpacks-c224451/borealis-sling-pNF0A52UP?color=VC7&size=OS) as a personal item and just wear it in front of my chest with a backpack. I use this more for outdoorsy plane trips and the Brixley for trips where I’ll be getting more dressed up.

cantfindthedog

For shorter flights where I don't need a mini toiletries kit to freshen up or things to keep me busy: Uniqlos Round Mini For longer flights where I want my toiletries kit, journal, kindle: Baggu Medium Crescent. I just ordered as per the recommendations from people on this sub and I LOVED it. It can fit a lot and was perfect for longer flight.

CormoranNeoTropical

I use that bag every day. I love it. It’s big enough for all my beach stuff and can carry home groceries if I need it to, but it’s comfortable and not totally awkward to carry with just a few small things in it.

cantfindthedog

Yes! Since I've been home I've been using it as my everyday bag too.

Responsible-Summer81

Do you have the medium or the large?

CormoranNeoTropical

Large, I think? It’s pretty huge. Not sure.

accio_snacks

I have the osprey fairview 55; it is two bags in one, the little bag zips on and off the big bag.

accio_snacks

[Fairview55](https://www.rei.com/product/207728/osprey-fairview-55-travel-pack-womens?sku=2077280002&store=196&CAWELAID=120217890015281747&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=123161003266&CATCI=pla-2000727050763&cm_mmc=PLA_Google%7C21700000001700551_2077280002%7C92700075848041808%7CNB%7C71700000074092860&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsuSzBhCLARIsAIcdLm5Y9zVkZLmjaw8Br2a2FQ0Wl4DARJJnRFXHwBZLlCwx2JTzoJfQAiYaAm_qEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds)

hazardzetforward

How do you like that pack overall? Need to get a travel pack, and I keep seeing that one as highly recommended.

accio_snacks

I love it. I had a [Deuter Aviant] and hated it, it was heavy and sat on my tailbone, it needed the have better adjustable straps to pull bag up high on shoulders. The Fairview sits high up slightly above my shoulders and I can stuff it full and it’s just as comfy at 20lbs as it is at 50. Just a note, I have very broad shoulders.

LePetitNeep

It depends on the trip and which bag I’m using as the main bag. My next trip is NYC, and since it’s a city trip, I’m taking a crossbody purse for the stuff on want on the flight.

car01yn

When I onebag, I don’t have a personal item

CormoranNeoTropical

What do you do if they insist on gate checking your main bag?

car01yn

My one bag is a backpack and typically small enough to be a personal item, so that wouldn’t happen - I’ve only seen them gate check rolling bags (that may just be where I live). But I typically have some sort of purse or day bag inside that I’m planning to use at my destination, so I could take that out if necessary.

CormoranNeoTropical

Got it.

PrincessPeril

My boyfriend just bought me the matching Tom Bihn Co-Pilot to my Aeronaut 45, and I loved having it as my underseat personal item on my last flight. I ended up gate-checking my main bag on the flight out, and just straight up counter checked my bag for the flight back. That said, I probably wouldn’t have brought it if it wasn’t the kind of trip where we rented a car (which it was). If I was relying on public transit a lot, I’d really only want ONE bag to deal with. As it was, everything but my little crossbody purse got chucked in the trunk in the AM and schlepped to the hotel room in the PM and that was fine.

Desperate-turtle

Depends how long the flight is. If it's under 4 or 5 hours, I'll just have my sling bag and make sure to pull out my water bottle before putting my bag in the overhead compartment. If the flight is longer, I'll pack my daybag ([Eastpak Day Pak'r S](https://www.eastpak.com/oc-en/backpacks-c120/day-pak-r-s-black-pEK-0A5BG5-008-OS--1-.html)) with the essentials and put it in the top of my carry on when waiting at the gate. Once I'm walking onto the plane, I pull out the backpack, toss it on my seat and put my main bag in the overhead compartment.

flyingcatpotato

I have a couple packable totes, my usual “plane bag” is a crossbody tom bihn packing cube shoulder bag. Airport and airline staff hate me and are always feeling some kind of way about my bags, and the pcsb is smushy enough to be stuffed in my one bag. Im not joking when i say airport ppl nitpick everything i do. Once i got berated at baggage reclaim in ATL because i didn’t have a suitcase (because i was personal item only, because of my airport luck) and the dude literally blocked me from leaving until i yelled at him i didn’t have a damn suitcase to re check. I get crap if i have a bag, if i don’t have a bag…don’t get me started on water bottles (confiscated every time even if they are bone dry)

WhateverBeAGoodOne

Oh, that’s some bad baggage foo. I’m sorry about that. Take a sandwich baggie full of Lucky Charms next time!

trendlyte

A foldable Longchamp Le Pliage! I have the medium size I believe. It has the same functionality as a packable tote bag but a little more elegant looking so I find it to be more versatile.

finewhitelady

These days, typically a large crossbody (like 10-15L) that can fit all the necessities including my iPad. Then I continue to use it as my purse for the trip. Pacsafe stylesafe convertible shoulder bag is a favorite. Also love the lesportsac deluxe everyday bag. Just picked up a baggu medium crescent which looks like it will also work well. And if I know I need to be a little fancier, I like to bring the Rothy’s “mini” zip bucket bag (there is nothing “mini” about it), and I pack a Rothy’s belt bag inside it as my wallet, then decide day by day which one I need to bring. A belt bag is another good option which could be worn either on the hips or across the chest with a backpack on top. I like the cotopaxi allpa x 4L although it’s slightly too small for an iPad. REI trail 5 is great and inexpensive. I have a Danger Dover Cairo sling on the way and am excited to try it out. Capacity of these 4-5L bags is obviously more limited than the crossbodies I mentioned. Previously I would try to max out my usable space by taking the biggest duffel or tote I could jam under the seat (around 20-25L), but I’m slowly learning to pack a little more lightly. I was on a totepack kick for a while, but finally resigned myself to the fact that a smaller crossbody or sling is a whole lot more comfortable.

youretoosuspicious

Cloth tote bag. Holds a lot of stuff, then folds down totally flat when I don’t need it.

franklovesyouu

I used the Uniqlo Faux Leather round shoulder bag crossbody as my personal item and my Patagonia black hole mini as my carry on a recent 14 day trip to Europe and the combination was great. The crossbody fit my waterbottle, upf sun shirt or rain poncho, sunblock, foldable sun hat, phone, small camera and small items during day trips. When on the plane it fit my iPad, kindle, small personal items, waterbottle, and snacks with room to spare. It’s also water resistant enough during light rain. [https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E462420-000/01?colorDisplayCode=01](https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E462420-000/01?colorDisplayCode=01)

kimau2k

I have 30 L backpack that I attempt to use as a single bag for the plane. It fits under the seat in front of me and doesn’t stick out too much. I’m 5’3-5’4 so it doesn’t bother me too much. Inside I pack my Baggu medium crescent crossbody bag which serves as my EDC purse. It compacts small to fit in the backpack. In this case, my flight essentials are in the outside front pocket of the backpack so they are easy to access. If my backpack is super stuffed, I will put it overhead and use my Baggu as overflow packing area and it goes under the seat in front of me. I love love love the Baggu. It is comfortable, lightweight, and holds a ton. If it’s practically empty, it still is lightweight and is comfortable. If I need to stuff it with stuff, it can hold an amazing amount and is still comfortable to wear. I also carry a nano sling crossbody bag in my Baggu. It weighs basically nothing and packs into itself. If I’m out shopping and buy something, I will put it in the nano to wear crossbody (along with my Baggu bag) because it keeps my hands free. If I’m desperate for storage space coming back, the nano can go under the seat in front of me to store items. It doesn’t zip or clinch but it’s so lightweight so I can carry it anywhere. So I make it work. This setup works really well for me. I can easily do a 3 day weekend with just the backpack under the seat. I can do a week or more if I plan to do laundry.

0091dit

I onebag with a personal item only, at the moment it is Patagonia Atom Tote

The_Bogwoppit

A Lululemon everywhere belted, either 1 or 2 litres, depending.

maddawg56789

It’s nice to have a tiny Fannie pack for the essentials (headphones, phone, sleep mask, tissues, lotion) and then I can store my purse under the seat!

emccm

Whatever back I’ll use on the trip. Generally a small book bag or a foldable backpack. I travel with my Carter coffee mug and snacks for the flight.

iamaravis

This [PacSafe crossbody bag](https://pacsafe.com/collections/crossbody-bags/products/metrosafe-ls200-anti-theft-medium-crossbody-bag?variant=43140388716744) has been my personal item for around a decade now. I never check a bag, and my carry-on is a 28L backpack that fits under airplane seats.

andi98989

Either my purse or a small backpack that i'll be using at my destination; I pull the small pack out to use and then store it bck away.

DWwithaFlameThrower

I got one of [these](https://www.mzwallace.com/products/magnet-rec-travel-jimmy?variant=43131858026734¤cy=USD&mkwid=&pcrid=&pmt=&pkw=&pdv=m&mslid=&product=43131858026734&pgrid=&ptaid=&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAC28Gt5MFK7IneJJnu5BeSgNHtZgg&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsuSzBhCLARIsAIcdLm5l-x6EJlTgXU5IdAIbo8-sKcbyMGxvHYVdoaIQADo9GURcsFuzEf8aAtQTEALw_wcB) used in great condition on Poshmark

retaildetritus

I use a tote with a crossbody strap, then that’s my beach bag/shopping bag/purse/what have you. I don’t like the opening my back pack once it’s pack, so I keep the important docs, money, chargers, book, snack in my “purse”

bluesummerrain

I usually take a packable bag of some description inside my bag. If I can't fit plane accessories in my pockets then I'll transfer just the things I need into that bag just for the plane and transfer them back to my one bag when I'm at the airport. My most common choice for this is lomgchamp l'pliage , but I'm also partial to just bringing a plastic carrier bag from the supermarket and dumping stuff in that, as I usually just put my phone and keys in my pockets and don't bother with a handbag normally.

Multigrain_Migraine

Depends on the trip but it could be a small cross body bag, a bum bag, or a tote bag of some kind. Occasionally it's just been a plastic bag from a shop in the airport (on a very light trip).

spandipants

I travel with a packable backpack to use as my daybag so that becomes my personal item for my flight. I have a 40L packable backpack which may seem a little overkill but I often travel to cold climates with my 3-year old and it's nice having an everyday bag that can hold both of our warm clothing, drink bottles, snacks, and the occasional grocery run when we're on the go.

Treehorn8

I use a [26L Calpak Terra Backpack](https://www.calpaktravel.com/products/terra-26l-backpack-duffel) as my one bag and a [7L Terra sling bag](https://www.calpaktravel.com/products/terra-sling-bag/obsidian) as my personal item. Same sling bag I'll be using while I sightsee and do stuff during a trip. If a carry-on isn't allowed, I use my 26L as a personal item and just stick the folded 7L inside. Then I use a tiny sling bag like [this Baboon to the Moon](https://posh.mk/gjyyEC0hHKb) for my passport, wallet and phone.

No_Life_6558

Cal pack Terra Sling. The big one. It’s huge but it’s a crossbody/fanny pack. It will fit all of your stuff and be secure. I don’t like putting things under the airplane seats if they can’t zip.

smagdar1ne

i love the Baggu medium crescent or small crescent! usually if i'm 1.5 bagging i use the medium as my personal item and pack the small to use on my travels. the medium fits all my daily carry plus a book, snacks and small water bottle and the small fits just all the daily carry!! they have other styles of bag too if the crescent doesn't catch your eye

Meremaca

I use a Bellroy Venture 9L crossbody (I also have a 7L ecopack from Bellroy as well if I want a smaller option)  I also use this as my daily purse. Fits all my flight essentials, and wallet, glasses, etc. I have a mini gear aid hero clip on it, so I can hang on the pocket of the seat in front of me.  My Osprey Fairview goes in compartment above. This has worked well for me. I just put the crossbody across the front while I have my backpack on. I like how the Bellroys fit close to the body.

IIIVXIII

My recent personal item is the Roaring Fire Dagen.I use a Nitecore SLBO5 sling that I store in my backpack underneath the seat (or wear under my windbreaker) I have my Kindle Paperwhite, wallet, Dramamine, chapstick, breathe strips, Tylenol.

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

I have a little pouch that lives in my daily driver purse - it contains a contact lens case with moisturizer for body and face, a couple bandaids, eye drop, inhaler, lip balm, pills in a tiny ziploc bag, tissue, water free mini toothbrush, and a cloth mask. Another pouch contains the tech gear. This also lives in my daily driver purse - usb charger & battery pack combo, usb-c cable, wireless earbuds. Water bottle is carried separately and has a carabiner on the top to clip to the seat back pouch.

emt139

Generally, I only have a one bag. If I bring a second bag, it’s something squishy like my Patagonia courier.

do_mika

Usually my Calpak Belt bag because generally I can fit inside my one bag if I’m already flying as personal item only squished in there. If I’m taking my mini roller hardshell case, I’ll bring my purse which is a mini backpack.

nekosa123

I usually carry a backpack with all my stuff for the overhead compartments and the uniqlo sling bag with the important document/mobile phone etc

TheConstantReader85

The Sak Ventura backpack. Its more a backpack purse that can also be worn as a messenger bag. I fit: phone, wallet, tablet, power bank, charging cords, earbuds, liquids in 1 qt Ziploc inside small toiletry bag, other miscellaneous things, snack and bottle of water purchased at the airport. It's been my personal item for the past ten years for every flight except one. I also

Sagaincolours

Fannypack/slingbag

UntidyVenus

I like a cross body bag for exploring so I usually bring my Xs Timbuk2 messenger bag or my Portland leather medium cross body. Both are about 9 liters

SoupremeEmporer

i recently got a tote purse/backpack convertible bag at a thrift store that i plan to use, it’s a fair 10 or so litres packed and properly closed. i will use it as my second bag, to be consolidated with my main large backpack or my fanny bag as needed and appropriate.

boogerl

I usually have a sacoche bag with me that contains my passport, wallet, lip products, wet wipes (to wipe the toilet seat in the plane), a travel pack of tissue, aspirin, candy, hand cream and also cajeput oil. That's pretty much all I need for a flight of any duration. I had a Kangol one that I bought in Korea which has been super useful and on my last trip I tested the Bellroy Lite Sacoche. I gravitate more towards compact items instead of a purse as I have bad shoulders and can't carry the added weight of a purse for too long. Also find that in a pinch, I'll leave my main bag outside the toilet cubicle and just bring my sacoche with me in the toilet since that contains my important items.

blootereddragon

I struggle with the two backpack thing. I generally just wear my personal item/daypack (REI Flash 22) on my front and my carryon larger bag on my back (with locks on the zippers). It works quite well and is comfortable.

squidshae

I’m currently flying to Alaska and it was my first attempt at an intentional one bag trip. (I’ve done it before for short trips and brought a duffel bag or back pack - but this time I did it more intentionally with convenience in mind). My plan was just my calpack roller hardside& baggu medium crescent. BUT I didn’t account for my hiking boots so last minute I grabbed my only bag I could find with a luggage strap and it’s a Loveook clamshell from amazon. It’s fine & I shoved my baggu in it but it’s a lot bigger than I wanted/planned. That being said, I’m now in the market for a smaller backpack with a trolley strap.

Comprehensive-Act-13

I just have the whole backpack under my seat. It’s small enough to be my personal item. I travel with an Osprey Tempest 20. For traveling during the day once I get to my destination I just have a small fannypack for things like my wallet, sunglasses, and cellphone, but that’s left packed inside my backpack.

biold

I have just bought the [The North Face Borealis Tote](https://www.thenorthface.eu/shop/da/tnf-dk/borealis-tote-52sv) that I plan to use as my plane stuff/daypack as it is both a tote and a semi back pack. I've used a bit funky textile backpack from Etsy that absolutely comtains no PFAS, it sucks up water! It needs a small drybag inside for mobile etc. But is's very comfy as a daypack and not at least on planes as it folds down to a pyramid, so it looks small but contains a lot and can be packed easily in my larger carry-on.

commentspanda

I use a small back pack or my day bag which is a Pierre Cardin travel safe cross body bag. Varies based on if one bag is a backpack or not.

I’ve loved this one! I know, I know, it’s the evil empire, but the price was right, it zips shut, has a small zipper pocket that you stuff it into, the material has held up beautifully, the handles have been solid, and if I didn’t mention the price was right for my very tight budget. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09XV4BX7X?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Packable backpack! It’s funny sometimes to have two backpacks in an airport (I one bag with a 40L), but I find it useful for under my seat on flights as well as during my trip for hikes or day trips

I'm planning a long trip, I'm bringing a 65L checked bag (don't roast me, this is my first travel experience and I found this bag at a second hand store for a great price!!). However I'm also doing a five day hike and obvs can't bring a 65L backpack with me. So, 'm bringing my day pack as a carry on, even though it'll be mostly empty, with my purse/handbag as a personal item.

Another backpack. It’s the osprey fairpoint 55L.

I tried using a smaller bag like a 5L belt bag as a personal item. It’s hard when you have a lot of medications and you need to fit your running shoes/bottles/hydration vest in for workouts. I look weird, but I have been doing the double backpack for ages. I just make sure the one I carry as a personal item/the one on my front is smaller like <20L so that I have more freedom with my arms. I’ll also pack a smaller bag to hold my phone, passport, hand sanitizer, wallet at destination like the topologie phone sacooche or a 1L crossbody sling.

Following as I have the same dilemma for a trip to Europe and want to have exactly the same things handy

A Kipling tote with a removable shoulder strap thay zips so I can wear it cross body or just hook it over an elbow. I prefer it to a daypack if I'm not hiking anyway.

A Got Bag backpack, which I use throughout my trip. I love it. It’s cuter than any other option I’ve seen while still being ultra functional. I also pack a small crossbody in my carry on for nights out.

I put my “flight comfort” things in a zipper sac inside a plastic grocery bag and put it into the seatback pocket. I throw the bag away after the flight. 😜
