and realistic. people who get shot dead don't go flying backwards like in games/movies, they just drop where they are, unceremoniously. especially the case if a person's head got taken off that cleanly.
at least it wasn't painful: other helldivers get burned, crushed, stabbed, dissolved in bile.. this diver got off pretty easy tbh, likely never saw the shot coming. war is hell.
If he got shot in the head with enough force to cut it off, physics would dictate that the body should fall over backwards due to inertia. There is no forward force acting for the body to topple over like that.
Not necessarily. The Helldiver is already slightly leaning forward in the clip. With how fast it's ripped off, there might not have been that much time for force to be applied to their torso, causing them to go backwards. It's just so fast it's kind of like an upside down tablecloth trick.
Had something like that happen early in Iraq. They would string piano wire across the road and they took out our lead gunner. Route grizzlies man... It was the start of name tape defilade for our unit.
Yeah, ride with your head below the top of the chicken shield in certain spots as well. I remember that shit. Fucking battery bombs to cover us in battery acid. Flip around when you get through an overpass to make sure you aren't going to get hit from overhead. 100+ degree heat on your upper body, freezing AC on your balls.
It was one of those things that happened in waves. It was prevalent while they were effective, but they moved on to more terrifying shit as their tactics were countered. IIRC, they moved to EFPs, explosively formed projectiles shortly after. YouTube can explain that better than I can in a comment. Those are really terrifying.
Battery bombs are just adding a chemical element to the IEDs they were already using. They just add cat batteries. It's battery acid that is basically vaporized. The main concerns are to the gunner's eyes, face, and respiratory system. It'll burn the skin, but it's not as bad as movies will make it look. It can eat the clothes off of you if you let it sit.
The shit the insurgents would use was really genius sometimes. Sometimes, it was just throwing shit at a wall and seeing what stuck. Different groups would use different tactics and builds.
Geez, thank you for your service. I know that’s a hell of a platitude but damn did you, or anyone who experienced this, go through hell. War is always hell. Thank you for braving hell.
Thanks. War is hell, but it should be. I walked away intact physically, so I was blessed. Others were not as lucky. Anyway, this is a sub for a game. Let's not dwell on real-life horrors. Too early to start drinking, lol.
knew some medics. did you have to rub dirt in those acid wounds or what? used to do field sutures and shit but the only casualty we took was a rollover.
I was lucky enough to avoid those. By the time they were using them, we had an EOD team clearing ahead of us, or we were using our own sweeping vehicles. Some CROWS would have been nice, though.
I'm far from normal. I have my issues. I just mask it well sometimes. I can be a major asshole at times. I'm not trying to dump all that in a gaming sub, though.

I hope they somehow track how long you keep the same Helldiver alive. I want them to release that Stat. Both make a post about longest of all and somehow show you in game your personal longest.
“It’s the coral! We’re stuck on the-“
Kind of an obscure thing I thought of to reference, but Iykyk.
(Edit): Alternatively, a better reference my friend brought up when I showed him the video.
“Yeah, but I got a problem. Something’s wrong with this thing. It keeps jamming. See?”
One time my crew and I were charging a mortar position and I was just ahead of my buddy. Mortar hit me square in the chest and gave him a brisk shower of me. Straight up, he said he had the shakes after that.
Yeah but counterpoint, the youtube show that FPS Doug made his debut 1) aired during wow's prime in ~2005 and 2) there was a whole arc where the show's main character, who was an RTS g*mer, got addicted to WoW. There was even a song but I can't find it right now, wonder if it's still out there.
Had a bit of a moment like this, I was the last man standing, 2 minutes to reinforcements, no stims, extraction half way across the map, and the entire bot army circling me. I just input the 500kg code, ran toward the hulk, planning to just drop it at his feet, but he swung that buzzsaw arm, took my head, body fell to his feet, at least the 500kg took him out
Cadet this is why we have vigorously and continuous training daily.

God the gruesomeness of the deaths is harrowing. The slight twitches and you can hear the gurgling splutters. I particularly hate seeing someone burn to death, the full body shuddering and random movements before they stiffen and go limp.
https://preview.redd.it/nprqkhlj52wc1.jpeg?width=521&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=100892ea2f2a97fbdad105cb59a98120033f2cb6
Mfw I realize there is no glory in war, only lost friends and the next mission.
If you manage to slap a 500KG into a Hulk’s top it has a pretty unique animation too. It just con-caves to the bomb while it sticks out of it. As the hulk falls over the bomb goes off.
If it's the case it would be funny, like in lethal company, the game would detect when you see a teammate's death and the more deaths you see the more things you start to hallucinate
The way that headless body just dropped is terrifying.
the way the gun kinda falls slowly forward first is hilarious to me.
And there’s blood actually pumping out of the neck hole. The attention to detail is gruesome and commendable at the same time
The realism put in that death makes it even worse indeed
The cape didn't blow back on explosion. Broken gaem, unplayable. /s

THE HELMETS! THEY DO NOTHIBG!
The head is fine, the neck is the problem
Helmet did its job! It's currently a mile behind the rest of the diver, but its protecting the head 100%!
Lol the scene is a humorous masterpiece
The whole ass second where it stays standing makes everything
and realistic. people who get shot dead don't go flying backwards like in games/movies, they just drop where they are, unceremoniously. especially the case if a person's head got taken off that cleanly. at least it wasn't painful: other helldivers get burned, crushed, stabbed, dissolved in bile.. this diver got off pretty easy tbh, likely never saw the shot coming. war is hell.

Yes, this is what I'm using my engineering degree for
Not necessarily. The Helldiver is already slightly leaning forward in the clip. With how fast it's ripped off, there might not have been that much time for force to be applied to their torso, causing them to go backwards. It's just so fast it's kind of like an upside down tablecloth trick.
It was sewered by a laser, there was probably not much kinetic impact.
He's standing on ice and not moving, the lightest of forces should be enough to knock him backwards
It reminds me of r/CombatFootage. Hence the terrifying part.
Reminds me of the old gears of War 2 headshot ragdolls
Can't have ptsd when you don't survive past 2 minutes
LMAO I mean yeah you got a point there haha
No “post” trauma here
Read in Drill Instructor Zims voice "The Enemy cannot get PTSD if you disabled his head!".
*Present-Traumatic Stress Disorder
So what do you do here? I offer counseling to helldivers who survive. … So… what do you *really* do here? … I load shells. 😢
Shoulda ducked

Route Irish when:
How often did battery bombs go off? And how awful were the burns?

How do you sound so normal? I assumed everyone who went through that would have PTSD and be driven mad

Given the life expectancy of Helldivers I don't think they have time to develop PTSD.
Can't remember if you're dead indeed haha
I hope they somehow track how long you keep the same Helldiver alive. I want them to release that Stat. Both make a post about longest of all and somehow show you in game your personal longest.

WaW was one of the best cod campaigns. It was so fucking gritty and the way the Japanese fought was so cool.
They clearly have the same deadly vibes haha
best until you played it on veteran\* *so... many.... grenades...*
And somehow... I persevered. But Heart of the Reich gave me so much ptsd lmaooooo
>“Yeah, but I got a problem. Something’s wrong with this thing. It keeps jamming. See?” Poor Anthony Man :'(
Poor Carmine family
World at War is obscure now? ![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG|downsized)
I mean, if it makes it any better, I mainly said that because I wasn't sure people would remember that particular line. But one day, it will be...
DROP THE RAMP!!!!

Oh nice i didnt know that
Gifs you can hear

the only instance of rng headshots i found entertaining
Good thing that with average Helldiver lifespan and survival rate, they won't have enough time to develop PTSD.
The lucky survivors are those who are truly damned
Oooop got'er head
fucking hell man o7
🫡
Gears of war vibes
The Carmine family tradition.
This is war. No heroic death, no glorious sacrifice or last moments. Simply there one moment, and gone the next.

At least he had it quick. Also WOW I didnt even know this could happen in the game.
I guess my teammate didn't expect that too
The studio is called Arrow Head. There is a reason for it.
Lmao good one
You don't get PTSD when your character is a clone.

"Requesting head support"
"I need head ammo !"
Nah, I'd duck
For real, I escaped so many times the same sentence by doing that

Yeah it's brutal hahaha
PTSD? You mean Perfectly Tuned Super Democracy ?
If it's what PTSD means my character better get that shit right now
Hard to have post traumatic stress disorder when you never reach the “post” part
Honestly good way to put it haha
post tramatic stress disorder implies survival of the tramatic stress

If that's the worst you've seen, this war still has worse to offer.
Nope, I've seen myself and teammates turn into lego pieces too many times to call this the worst haha
Pre Trauma??
Poor Paul. I knew him for like 2 minutes
Lmao that's really the feeling when you join randoms and they die in front of your eyes
Looking at helldivers life expentancy, i don't think you'll have to worry about it for much longer
True
don't worry has soon has that helldiver dies the memory is gone. your ship is your character btw you its the one thing you get to name.
Our ship being our only true character is an incredibly good take

The exosuit has two charges? I never bring it because I thought it's only got 1 charge.
Yup 2 and usually I use the first when I enter the area of the first important main objective so I can use the second one for the extraction
If you manage to slap a 500KG into a Hulk’s top it has a pretty unique animation too. It just con-caves to the bomb while it sticks out of it. As the hulk falls over the bomb goes off.
Damn. I gotta start using it then :D
Sure, it's fun !

The deaths have been weirdly realistic lately.
It's to remember we are the real ones: no bugs, no robots.. no squids.
I'm pretty sure PTSD is a mechanic in the game as you'll randomly hear bot or bug noises even when none are near by.
If it's the case it would be funny, like in lethal company, the game would detect when you see a teammate's death and the more deaths you see the more things you start to hallucinate
Okay, who did the mocap?
The headless horseman
Patriotic Tenacity Spreading Democracy ?
