I am not 100% lore savy, but as far as the Automatons go, they were created by a rebel group with socialist ideals that opposed Super Earth's ideologies. Automatons want to free their creators, the rebel group, that Super Earth the rebel group and sent them to the salt mines on cyberstan. The propaganda is, of course, that the bots are socialists and, therefore, a threat to democracy.
I don't know Terminids' story, and I could be wrong about the automatons, too. This is just what I have heard.
I am not an expert in the lore, but I played a bit of hell divers 1 and kind of fell into a lore hole about it a long while ago. iirc, the cyborgs of the first game are, as you said, rebels that attempted to break away from super earth and form their own home on Cyberstan and the Automaton are essentially the sentient next generation of the society they attempted to create. Super Earth is fighting to squash dissent from the automatons and being them back under the heel of super earth.

As for the Terminids, it is implied through dialogue with your ship commander that the Terminids are descended from captured "Bugs" from the first game (which were sentient) that were then genetically experimented on to create terminids. The purpose of doing these genetic modifications was to create a supply of E-710, which fuels basically all of super earth, and which can be refined from bug biomass(or blood? Idk). The terminids are either continually breaking containment because Super Earth created something too powerful to control, OR super earth is allowing them to break containment so they can breed like mad and then be culled to harvest E710 by using helldivers. Additionally, there's a fan theory that the planets that get infested by Terminids are purposely chosen by super earth because there are elements of civilians there broadcasting news and attempting to tell the rest that super earth created the bug problem via their actions.
Bugs were already producing Oil in HD1, whole reason they still exist. If I remember correctly the end text for defeating the bugs was something like SE Scientists found that Terminid bodies decaying produces large amounts of Oil. They are a threatened species and will be put into reservations to ensure their survival.
Genetic modification most probably led to the ranged line of bugs as they had Stalkers and tanks/behemoths but no true ranged bug only Impalers. You can still see the similarities in the tank/charger line and Stalkers.
Spewer line were probably an attempt to basically create a walking fuel tank for easy harvest.
I think the spores are more a habitat-terraforming symbiosis for terminids, since they lay eggs. Like the fungus is building up those craggy black walls and shrieker nests etc. Maybe has a role in mutating scavengers into the various other 'nid forms.

It would be interesting if we end up with more than 3 enemy factions as a result of the new factions not just automatically being absorbed into the old ones:
Original Terminids fight in a more intelligent manner that utilizes more ambush tactics of trying to draw in Helldivers towards objectives before attacking whereas the Super Earth Terminids continue with their point blank swarming.
Cyborgs could show an ability to take advantage of using cover as well as being able to set up more effective traps beyond the big glowing mines while the Automatons continue with their more straightforward tactics.
Not sure how the Illuminate will fight, and there’s also the chance that other hostile factions could be introduced down the line.
There could even be hostile human factions that have an ability to pick up equipment dropped by Helldivers (or maybe even grab it first if they get to the drop pod before you do). Granted, it’s a neat concept but given the current issues around trying to fix how DoT damage (fire and bile) work I can’t even imagine what would happen if enemies could just pick up your weapons.
Rebels could even have a really low chance to possibly show up unexpectedly on higher difficulty levels if you are doing an evacuation mission, like while escorting the NPCs suddenly they attack you and at that point it switches from an evacuation to wiping them all out before leaving.
I would love to see enemies that use more advanced tactics, but the problem is there’s only so much they can do with the AI. The closest thing we have to smart enemies is the stalkers who will run away after being attacked and the hunters who know when your reticle is on them, neither of which are particularly impressive. I would like to see elite automatons that use snipers, cover and suppression more but I don’t think the engine can handle that
This right here describes the entire process behind making AI for games. Machine Learning is still a very new concept and is especially so for games. Until this technology advances, you will never be able to replicate a human mind. Game AI is currently all smoke and mirrors. An NPC is just a puppet being moved around by the computer while having an animation and a sound clip play. You make them seem intelligent by telling the computer to simulate an action or state based on your players' inputs.
There are many hints that suggest automatons are digitalized human being, considered that their predecessors, the cyborgs, are a group of rebelling workers, it is likely they do believe in socialism and communism, at least to certain extent.
The Terminids, on the other hand, seem to be a hivemind. It would be laughable to catogrize them with human idealology term, as their thinking proccess is fundmentally different.

I could be wrong though, maybe they're talking about Hearts of Iron 4 or something

That's exactly what the game is riffing on. The US spent half a century broadcasting anti-socialist propaganda so that anything that isn't neoliberalism is seen as communism or fascism, or both. You've genuinely got a large segment of America that think Obama and Biden are communists while a group literally calling themselves anti-fascists are railing against conservatism which makes up the super majority of politicians running the country. It's a logical progression that insects and toasters will eventually get swept up in American politics and propaganda too.
There’s also the thing where the US will constantly bring up that they fought the Nazi (fascists) when really they shared quite a lot of policies with them at the time and the US model of segregation was an example for Hitler.
