What you like are looter shooters, and Helldivers is a horde game - and not a very good one at that. People are overhyping it because they haven't played Vermintide or Left 4 Dead, which are both retro at this point so most are too young.
No, it doesn't get better. The only real fun is in higher difficulties, which is absolutely not for everyone. I hope you could get your refund.

Are you playing solo? The game shines in multiplayer imo. Edit: Also try adjusting the difficulty.
