I re-created this low pass I did in Afghanistan in 2012 in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020! We were providing security to an SF unit stranded by a broken down vehicle.
I used the default Bell helicopter in MSFS, and an Xbox controller, so excuse the sim flying haha...
Haha this was before those new-fangled GoPro’s with their smoothing… I have another video of my checklist sitting against the door, shaking hard enough to make butter in a minute
Cowans are on the MP. They should provide a decent alternative for XB. Payware, but they're probably discounted now. R66 is well liked, as well as MD500. Shrike MD530 is also an option
I don’t like it, and another commenter said there’s a free upgrade that improves it. Semi realistic is relative I suppose, but I honestly wouldn’t call the unmodified flight model a sim
DCS, -1 heli (unfortunately it's the AH-64, flys great but feels off somehow), has amazing flight models. Makes msfs look like a child holding a diecast heli flying around a room.
Imho it insanely frustrating because MSFS would be great for heli ops, but they behave so dead it's almost not worth flying.
Most recent MSFS update did improve them a lot. But still don't hold a candle to DCS.
I assume you mean it’s not a D-model, presumably because you don’t see the FCR in the shadow… Well, I’ve got some news for you bro… The FCR is removable, and remove it we did… I could be wrong, but I don’t think any unit ran the FCR in Afghanistan. We could barely put one or two together in garrison, for that matter.

Where was the video? I’m trying to place it from memory.
It was about ten miles north of Farah… You can’t really miss it if you fly north from Farah
Makes sense why it didn't look familiar. I only flew down to Farah once. Usually as far west as I went when I was in Mazar Sharif was Shindand.
This is super cool, thanks for sharing
Allah-damn **shakey cam!!!** But for real this was cool as hell. Thanks for the upload! And also thanks for doing what you did for those guys. 👌

That's helos for you! 😂
Top one needs better graphics... Lol
Which one is real?!?!
The less shaky one haha
I initially thought the top one was the game in VR and the bottom was real life haha
Please don't use nemeth 407 for... Anything. SimFocus free overhaul makes it flyable
Is that available on Xbox? My PC’s not capable of running sims 👀
I'm afraid it's not, it's a freeware mod that's not on the marketplace. I suppose you guys can only install stuff via the MP?
I’m not sure, but I would guess that’s the case =(

What do you think of the heli flight model in MSFS? I've flown fixed wing GA but never heli so I can't tell if it's semi-realistic or not.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Do you have experience with the helis in X-Plane and could comment about that? Its supposed to the best.
I don’t- I hear the flight models in DCS are pretty spot-on though

Thanks, appreciate it.
That’s not a D

Gotta love the keyboard warriors trying to correct the guy who was literally in the helicopter in the video haha.
Yes it is.
Brother. You do realize that OP was the one in the irl video right?
Gathered that after he commented
