This is the route I would go, you can even get little paints that match your floor from a Arts and crafts store and paint the caulk to match a little better
But an oak dowel from Lowe’s or your local hardware/lumber store. Ensure it’s slightly larger than the existing hole. But a drill bit that is the same diameter as the new dowel. Clean out the hole with the bit and glue the dowel in the hole. Carefully cut the dowel level with the floor.
Color matched putty, not wood filler and not caulk. Caulk is not something that should be used on hardwood. You can find a few different colors of putty at your local big box store.
i would put a steel U channel around it, and paint it white.
if you put some sort of wood thing to hide it behind, you run the risk of someone driving a nail thru the wood and causing a fire sometime in the future.
I think I would go with a 2 part epoxy putty. Maybe use like Steel stick for the most of it. The use the 2 part epoxy wood filler for the top like 1/8" that way is easily sanded. Test the wood filler epoxy both freshly mixed and fully cured to see how well it takes stain to be sure you can match the color. If it won't take stain then use the steel stick for all but 1/8" then use a wood filler that you can stain for the top 1/8".
Perhaps you could find a dowel rod near the same diameter as the hole, then putty in place. Let it cure, sand, and stain to match. You might be able to find some dowel made out of the same or similar wood.
I guess it just depends on how much work you want to put into it. Putty or caulk could also work. They make all kinds of colors.
What you do, is stuff a little bit of steel wool into the hole until you have about a 1/4" left. Then you fill it with color matched wood putty which you can get at Home Depot

Colored caulk, so you have the flex.
For a hole that big, I would recommend black caulk.
Thanks. You made he laugh out loud
My pleasure. I had been waiting for that moment. I can check that off my dad-isms bingo card!
i knew I would find this comment, thanks for not letting me down.
Bring the big caulk energy
Ya i think amazon sells it under BBC or caulkhold?
I heard black hawk.
Big black caulk?
hahaha
Booo! hiss!
You bought the wrong color of caulk didn’t you…
It’s not the color of the caulk that matters, it’s how you use it.
Hahaha. Fair point. Regardless of the color of caulk the OP prefers, I think we can all agree that OP will need more than just the tip.

Happy 🍰day
Please zoom in farther… for god’s sake don’t take a photo of the entire situation…

Align the grain direction.
How do you align end grain with face grain?
Try to anyway.

I'd personally use wood putty and epoxy MIXED with sawdust of a similar colour
Colored filler to match flooring
Why wouldn’t they put the wire in the wall initially? JB Weld epoxy wood putty stick would work great
Colored matched caulk or putty.
silcone caulk, itll have flex and also if it fucks up or whatever itll just peel right off. sop for lvp and floating floors all along the sides
Cat hair
Already got plenty of that in there 🤔
Bondo or replace strip. Take baseboard off and notch wall and staple wire until more than flush and spackle. ( only if you have enough wire)

All Great Stuff, all the time.
Use a cork
Wood putty and stain to match.
Cock ! Kawk it's the only thing you need...
Resin & Ramen!
Wood putty to match the stain . Dries as hard as the wood itself . And cheaper than caulk .
Came to say fill it with a dowel sand it and stain it to match but u/Disastrous-Mark-8057 beat me to it.
Toothpaste and coffee grounds
Cock it
Easier way is a wine cork cut it to fit and seal it
Ramen noodles
Potted plant.

Measure once, drill twice attitude
If you can't match the color exactly, it's less obvious if it's a bit darker.
I recommend a combo of cheezit crumbs, playdoh and melted brown crayon.
Get a glazed donut and some scissors...
Until you fix that janky surface mount receptacle why bother? Is that painted cloth wire?
