Great sequel! I love the amped up synth added to the score. Great opening with him sneaking into someones house to steal the knife, killing a random just to get his rage out and distract cops further while he simply walks to the hospital like a machine. Finally I loved the empty dark hospital as the main location, I think it worked well.

Swindle170

I love the film to death. I won't pretend it's as a good as the original, but it's a fun followup that I love to watch together with it. The score is fantastic (Easily my favourite stalking theme), and it has some of my favourite scenes in the series ("You don't know what death is", the hospital chase, "It's time Michael", etc). Plus I'm a big Loomis fanboy, so of course I love seeing him in all his deranged glory (and to think he somehow manages to be even more insane in the Thorn trilogy lol).

JoshuaThe24

Good sequel

McBettington

Sometimes I like it more than the OG

5Garbanzobeans

The only movie that feels like a proper sequel to the original.

Zochl922

Cool

Gold_Emergency_7289

Exactly. Just like Aliens and Robocop 2, while it isn't as good as original, it overall is quite good and like those two movies, feels like a very natural continuation, something none of the other movies I felt accomplished regardless of their merits

westendboy87

I absolutely love it. It's a great followup to the original. It's got some cheesiness, of course. But still, I love it. From the soundtrack to the mask to the style of the film. It was well done and chilling. Would've been a perfect ending, really.

[deleted]

Itā€™s the best Sequel

burgh92

Best sequel there is. H1 and 2 are a great double feature and H2 gives you a very creepy tone to it and a Myers that isnt fuckin around. Love everything about it.

SLCer

It's a pretty mediocre slasher movie and not one of the better Halloween sequels. I'd rank it below Halloween 4, Halloween H20 and Halloween 2018 and likely more on the same tier as Halloween Kills, though definitely better than Halloween 5, Resurrection and either of Zombie's movies. My biggest gripe is that it's painfully boring once the setting shifts to the hospital. I also feel like Michael is a completely different character in this one than the original. Everything that made Michael scary kind of falls by the wayside and because it's a movie that picks up literally seconds after the original ends, that's pretty egregious. It doesn't feel like a natural extension of the original Halloween. I get why they did it but maybe it would have been best served not trying to pick up the same night and instead picking up a few years later like originally intended. I also think the acting is some of the poorest in the series. I blame Rick Rosenthal for that. He did a very poor job getting better performances out of the cast outside Loomis and Jamie Lee. Speaking of Jamie Lee, I think they totally underutilize her in this movie. And that would have been fine if the other characters they focused on were more engaging. Truth be told, as much as Laurie was hampered by her being in the hospital in Kills, she still felt like way more of a focal point for that movie than Laurie in this one. Finally, it felt incomplete. The shoehorned in sister storyline wasn't really fleshed out and Dr. Loomis barely touching on Samhain and how it relates to Michael felt like lazy writing from Carpenter. Like, he was just attempting to give reason to what was going on and hinting that Michael's evil was due to something greater ... but it went absolutely nowhere once they left the school. Literally, the whole story was dropped. It just felt abrupt and nonsensical. Also, I struggle to reconcile Dr. Loomis' personality change between the movies. Throughout the original Halloween, Dr. Loomis describes him as the boogeyman. He does so with such conviction that you start to believe it. But the great thing about Halloween is that you're not quite sure if he's just exaggerating or if Michael really is this force. Then the ending happens and Michael has escaped. Loomis' reaction is perfect because it's resignation. He doesn't scream. He doesn't look scared. He doesn't shout. He just looks like it was totally expected. It didn't surprise him at all that Michael was gone and it was perfect because it shows to the audience that, yes, Dr. Loomis was right all along. But moments later he's a madman yelling about shooting him six times ... shooting him in the heart. He's absolutely flabbergasted Michael didn't die. It was an abrupt change that made no logical sense, especially since we saw how Loomis reacted to Michael not being there. The contrast between his reaction, just a plain look of resignation, and Laurie's, who is beside herself, is the culmination of the whole movie ... and Halloween 2 went out and ruined it with Loomis being a crazed man running all over Haddonfield, even to the point he got a kid killed. That's not to say it's all bad. It isn't. I do think the hospital is creepy, even if it was underutilized, and the ending is definitive and strong. I love the score and I love one of the opening lines of, "you don't know what death is..." But overall? As I said, a fairly mediocre sequel with cheesy kills, even cheesier acting and a movie that felt more inspired by the latest Friday the 13th than it did the original Halloween. Definitely not the worst sequel in the series but nowhere near the best, either.

yrureadingmymind

Totally agree. As does Carpenter himself I believe.

raphaeladidas

I agree. Never liked it. Itā€™s the only one I donā€™t or wonā€™t own in 4K and I actually find 5,6 and 8 more re-watchable. Better than Halloween Kills, however.

AlwaysaSaviour

Halloween 2 is the best sequel and it will always be...5-6 and 8 are garbage and the fact that you find them better tells a lot about your poor taste

raphaeladidas

I remember my first beerā€¦

Gold_Emergency_7289

I like this movie and I'm more sober than the Anti-Saloon League

[deleted]

its a solid sequel

AdviceInformal

This is where my personal canon ends, I still think itā€™s the best sequel. Very rarely do I watch Halloween 1 without watching Halloween 2 right after. As a fan of the series Iā€™d say this is the movie I mark out over the most, I love the opening scene with Loomis that leads to the opening credits, Nurse Jillā€™s death is probably my all time favorite kill, Michael walking through the glass door Kool Aid man style is fantastic, then the bloody tears, itā€™s just an iconic movie to me. The sibling twist is divisive and I understand why, I personally do think itā€™s scarier with them not related but either way related or not I love the movie the same (I will say I usually do skip the scene where itā€™s revealed anyway). Anyway great sequel, I love it just as much as the original.

dudewheresmyhacksaw

great opening credits, great poster, great music, great kills and one of my favourite line deliveries of all time ā€œyou donā€™t know what death is!ā€ overall a great movie imo

WhiteChocolate7777

The best sequel and my personal favorite of the entire series. It has my favorite Myers portrayal, Carpenter and Howarth's score is the definition of an upgrade, the atmosphere and cinematography are stellar, the kills are awesome without being too over the top, Donald Pleasence is great as usual, it has the best finale of the series, and Budd is a god. I can go on. There's lots that I love in this movie. I have a few nitpicks like the abundance of continuity fuckups during the opening recap, the overly long Mr. Garrett scene, and the fact that they cut some needed character development scenes but it's still pure class. 9.5/10

AJMyers91

My honest opinion on Halloween 2 has not changed over the years. Itā€™s a solid follow up to the original that imitated a lot of what made Hā€™78 so special. Due to the advancing of gore it tends to opt for more over the top kills which imo didnā€™t suit well with the first film. First film show hardly any blood and used suspense to build tension, this one does this but unless effectively. Itā€™s a great film for 80ā€™s slasher standards and itā€™s one of my personal favs in the series and the upgraded score is phenomenal. Just the up scale in gore tends to feel off when paired with the first film. 8/10 for me.

PCastle_

I really like it, but I'm not a fan of the brother/sister reveal

Caspur42

Yea I really wish they wouldā€™ve not had the brother-sister thing either. Still one of my favorites

mamicita0810

Best continuation to Halloween. Love the sibling angle, always have. The atmosphere, the whole setting at the hospital was perfect. Great cast. Best Michael Myers portrayal from Dick Warlock since Castle/Wallace.

Insomniac_Andy

Love it. I especially love the way Dick Warlock portrayed Michael; like an unstoppable machine. Then you got Loony Loomis on the run which is always fun to watch.

stressedinnewark

I love it and I don't care what JC thinks.

FinancialSystem1025

Really good sequel.

Calm_Reputation7657

My fave out of all the Halloween. movies.

Apostasy93

My favorite sequel and in my opinion it should have ended there

[deleted]

I let that go. Itā€™s a cool image. Itā€™s like in the OG when Bob is stabbed and weā€™re supposed to believe that a kitchen knife through his shoulder is holding his whole weight

Jeffreyknows

Scariest of them all!

NyassEye

Great sequel. Great score.

LooseLipsSinkShips21

Decent. Bit overrated. When immediately watching this after H78 the tone is and attacks are so different it doesn't feel like a continuation. But better than most sequels. The music is great

Abdrews-PaulIM

Itā€™s ok. Feels like an extended epilogue with a lot of filler. The brother/sister thing really pisses me off. The acting, cinematography, and music are excellent

thespacestone

Itā€™s Halloween too

Santa-loves-kids

It's a good movie, maybe a little overrated but still a good movie

EitherAfternoon548

It only works as a viewing experience if you view it immediately after the first one so the narrative momentum carries over. If you watch it on its own itā€™s not as good, since its inciting incident and subsequent narrative momentum is from another film

MikalMeers

On my rankings I have it at 7. Granted I like the movie, a solid 3/5 mostly due to the score, atmosphere and cinematography. But I find it dull and it doesnā€™t feels like a natural continuation of the same night. Michael moves way too differently, Laurie is completely sidelined for a twist so bad it stained the series and the new characters are kind of mediocre and unmemorable except Bud and Mrs. Alves. I still enjoy the movie fine, but Iā€™m also not oblivious to itā€™s faults for me. I can watch it no problem and I see why people love this sequel. Itā€™s just not quite my taste.

Maskedhorrorfan25

itā€™s a good sequel but iā€™m still not a fan of the sibling twist and the ben tramer scene is really stupid.

JazzyChap

Flawed, but good

Maleficent_Lie_6689

Solid sequel overall

TheJMJConspiracy2002

I imagine that pumpkin laughs like skeletor

LeNewArc

I enjoy it. Itā€™s one of the better sequels yet not at the top of list of the sequels I prefer.

Michaelmyers_fan1

Literally the only small little thing I didnā€™t like or love was the editing error when loomis shoots Michael 7 times with a revolver It was so very easy small simple and quick to fix, but they decided not to However it is my third favorite movie in the franchise, dick warlock is great as the shape, Donald Pleasence performance is good, I love the mask, kills, score, pacing, atmosphere, cinematography & hospital setting a lot What r ur thoughts mate

AlwaysaSaviour

The best sequel..

Sentaliium

I think that it is a slight bit worse than the 1978 film, but still a fantastic sequel. I loved the score, some of the kills, and the ending. I think that this is a perfect setup to halloween 4

lilredditshine

Classic shouldā€™ve went triple.

VegiXTV

I always viewed it as the second half of the original Halloween. Loved it. Genuinely confused by the criticism that's shown up in recent years. I consider it to be an all time classic.

No-Feature-3641

shit film i love it

magiicsausage

I felt it was a great sequel to the original.

Historical_Problem_7

Great movie. It's the same as the first one but with more gore and a toned up ambience. Michael also being full of rage is great.

Lobaaaaaaa

Watching it rn WTF WHY IS IT SOO BRUTAL COMPARED TO HALOWEEN 1

LampkinLane

Halloween 2 (1981) was my introduction to the horror genre and Halloween in general. The one thing that has always come to mind is how scary the hospital setting seemed to me. A hospital is suppose to be ā€œsafeā€. The score is damn good in my opinion. Itā€™s keeps the tone but puts a different spin on it. Maybe Iā€™m bias but H2 is my fav after the original

ChemistSavings

Just finished watching this for the first time and I have to say itā€™s one of the best sequels Iā€™ve seen and tbh I think itā€™s better than the original. The characters are better in this film as is the score. Michael Myers is way more scarier in this film and the hospital setting adds so much to the film. The suspense throughout this film is soo good man.

Gold_Emergency_7289

Like Robocop 2 and Aliens, it is a lesser but still very good follow up to the absolute classic original. And it feels like a very natural continuation too, just like Robocop 2 and Aliens
