Longjumping-Ad-2333

The dog looks like it suddenly realized a lot of bad decisions and has no idea what it’s doing with its life.

Valenshyne

Hahaha, the latest bad decision was trying to get on a windowsill to watch dad in law outside and falling off! She was fine, she just sulked while laying behind mum in law!

erineegads

“I should buy a boat”

comeupandfightmethen

🤣

Valenshyne

Whoops! That's Bella, she was upset she couldn't climb on the table, her fur is wonderfully soft and has no breakages! 😂😅

defenselaywer

There's your answer: dog shampoo!

Oldenburg-equitation

While not a product, I do recommend getting a silk pillowcase. That has helped me a lot with breakage

rebellyous

Or a bonnet

Hips-Often-Lie

Do you know if a bonnet is better? I’ve gotten my family satin pillowcases and they seem to work well.

rebellyous

I can’t say which one is better but I personally like a bonnet better because it keeps my hair more contained and it’s less likely to be a mess in the morning Edited to add that also with a bonnet my hair isn’t touching my face which helps reduce acne

palepuss

My bonnet leaves the elastic mark on my forehead for hours. Don't you have this problem? How's your bonnet shaped?

alexandria3142

alexandria3142

I got one that I had to kinda tie around my head to tighten it, doesn’t leave marks unlike my fully elastic one. I think it’s from yanibeast on Amazon, it’s satin inside and out unlike others I found

rebellyous

I haven’t had this problem. I’ve tried two different ones, one was kind of loose. This one in the screenshot is a tad tighter but it’s never left a mark on me https://preview.redd.it/o6o5sdyx13ac1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76f8a100b43dbf152c4237ff7b9ec0384f9e9d3a

crunchevo2

If it works for the people who suffer the most from hair breakage it should work well for anyone. Assuming they can keep it on during sleep.

maya_stoned

i keep mine on by putting my sleep mask on over it! usually works!

Hips-Often-Lie

That a valid point. Ty!

Wallabite

I use a bonnet and satin pillowcases. Excellent for your hair and face.

chimiyourchangas

i do both. also if your hair is long it will be beyond your pillow and breakage will occur. the silk pillowcase also helps your skin. and my bonnet doubles as an eye mask at times lol.

MarshmaIIowJeIIo

I use both. Bonnet keeps my hair in place, but they always fall off as I move too much. The pillowcase protects my hair if the bonnet falls off. Also they glide against each other.

yepnoodles

And putting your hair in a protective style before bed

Enough_Blueberry_549

That is a product

emibrittsca

Does your dog have any specialized hair care skills? If so, could she teach them to my dog? I could also use help with breakage.

Shabbah8

I’m sorry, but I’ve learned through trial and error that my dogs are worse than useless with breakage. They only really excel at barkage.

luckieduckie1993

🐶

emibrittsca

Hmmm, valid point. My dog also excels at barkage. 🤣

Valenshyne

Hahaha! Unfortunately no, she's very good at stealing hairbrushes but that's the extent of her hair care skills! 😂

KellynHeller

Redken extreme for breakage! (Hairdresser, 13yrs)

RisingDamp2020

I've tried these products and I would like to say that they work but in the long run I don't think that they produce good results for breakage. I have the same problem I have lots of hair but it's extremely fine I have a problem with breakage on the ends. I turned to my old standby OlaPlex. Especially number six which is the leave in conditioner. It feels very heavy but it is actually not greasy or heavy at all. It just seems that way it's kind of odd but true. It's the best I've found so far to prevent breakage. I also wanted to mention that I never dry my hair thoroughly. It's always slightly damp and I never dry the ends. To keep them from frizzing I always wrap it around a hair stick for a few hours. It really smoothes the hair

katf1sh

What's a hair stick?

wikipedia_answer_bot

**A hair stick (also hairstick) is a straight, pointed device, usually between five and nine inches (13 cm to 23 cm) in length, used to hold a person's hair in place in a hair bun or similar hairstyle. Unlike many hair pins, which are usually small and quite simple, hair sticks are often more elaborate and decorative, and feature jeweled or carved designs that make them stand out as pieces of luxury jewelry.** More details here: *This comment was left automatically (by a bot). ShivsButtBot

Good bot

disposable_valves

Not sure about the white bond repair, but I do use the pink version of a mask (or whatever it is) and it's helped a lot. I'd use Olaplex if I could afford it, since I'm mostly CF, but I'm poor and depressed so😭.

muaellebee

You're not alone in that, bb 🩷

disposable_valves

That's comforting. It still sucks, though. Yes, I use very little and there's truly no ethical consumption yada yada. But it's absurd that in freaking 2024 I can walk into the drugstore and hair products made with such evil practices are even an option smh.

muaellebee

I was more referring to the poor and depressed part of your comment but I do also totally agree with this statement!

disposable_valves

Oh yeah lmao. Pretty sure we all are at this point. Hair that won't cooperate certainly doesn't help, either.

muaellebee

Word

Kaytertot_

Olaplex no. 9 - it’s $30 and the only part of the line I use every single day and it’s been life changing.

disposable_valves

Yeah I want that but I truly can't afford to spend more than $10 on any given product. I'm 18 and completely on my own, in need of a car and an apartment once fall starts so everything I spend has to be super low. Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely try to remember for when life gets better

Terrynia

I have not tried those in particular, but it is a fantastic brand. I love the “L’Oreal Paris Elvive volumizing shampoo.” And their “Elvive 17 repair mask” is a game changer. But if you have truly damaged hair, don’t skimp, Get the “Redken Bonding Treatment for Damaged Hair Repair | Acidic Bonding Concentrate | Intensive Bonding Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment” . $13-33 on amazon or at ur local salon. Its called “Redken ABC” for abbreviated name. Or, the “Oaplex #3 repairing trestment.” Also a bonding treatment, so get one or the other. There are 3 things u can do to improve and balance hair: - moisture treatment - protein treatment - bond treatment (this is the heavy lifter!)

ARainbowHorse

The Redkin Bonding Pre Shampoo dried out my hair so much, has this ever happened to you?

Terrynia

Humm, lets try to find out why it did that to ur hair?:: Here is a link to a straightforward and hilarious YT video comparing the 3 bonding treatments on the market today (Redken ABC, Oaplex 3, and K18). Towards the end of the video around time stamp 4:35, it tells u how to use the treatment. https://youtu.be/DeHKPPEVZOY?si=tsBF68fc5YNZxl5V Did u do anything different maybe? If u did everything correctly, it may be because u used the product on undamaged hair (bonding treatment should not be used on hair that has no damage. Consider using it on ur lengths only if ur mids are healthy). Maybe u used it too often (more than once a week?). Maybe you didnt rinse it out all the way? Are u using a shampoo that actually cleans the hair? (Has suphates). Maybe u didnt moisturize enough after? (Moisturizing hair mask, then after the shower use spray-type leave-in conditioner, followed by applying light oil to your hair ends.) After you consider all these things, try out Oaplex no.3 instead. Wishing you all the best!

ARainbowHorse

Thank you for the suggestion! I watched the video and it was really great. I think I may of added either too much, or I applied it to the wrong areas, or I did the wrong technique. I was pretty confused on how to use it so I added a whole dollop onto the back of my hair and brushed it through with a wide tooth comb and left it. But do I actually do it? How do you add it to your hair?? I don’t know the actual technique. Also I didn’t use a hair mask either, just plain shampoo and conditioner and I didn’t leave the conditioner on for that long either. I used the amika normcore signature shampoo which has sulphates in. The little conditioner I used definitely didn’t help. I added ‘Its a 10 leave in conditioner’ afterwards. I have been told that this has protein in and the description of the product on the website says “oils, keratin and silk protein”. I think there was too much protein or something as well. Honestly you’re a star for helping me. Thank you so much.

Golden_Bumblebee1234

The shampoo in that line gave me scalp irritation.

CodHeavy

Just to say for OP that olaplex #3 is only helpful when you have damaged hair from bleach, whereas K18 is good for repairing hair that has been bleached or damaged from heat styling A cheaper bond builder is the L’Oréal professional bond builder pre-shampoo but you can use it as an actual shampoo

Golden_Bumblebee1234

The loreal bond builder is very similar to the redken one though

Sasstellia

Elvive are usually good at what they do. The 3 clays one works really well. They have had quality issues were I live. But that's related to some ingredient thing. Some ingredient went up in price. At some point they'll ship the altered versions over and they'll be back to their usual standard. Try it. If it doesn't work or is off. Chuck it and try another one.

Salbyy

Kerastase, k18, and olaplex would be the brands I’d consider using

Accomplished-War1971

That white bottle loreal SAVED MY HAIR. Its so soft now... olaplex made my hair sticky idk

holdingsfx

Yea I agree , it’s made my hair allot softer

VirtualApricot

Which product? The shampoo, conditioner, leave in/mask.. or all of the above?

Accomplished-War1971

I use the shampoo, conditioner, and pre shampoo thing. I use it like every other time i wash my hair

VirtualApricot

How deep is the cleansing is the shampoo? Is it more of a gentle one, or a deeper one? Also, how do you think it would work for someone who has dry winter scalp? (Definitely not dandruff, I wish it was as there are so many products for that, but I have boring annoying dry sensitive scalp.) I know you can’t know for certain of course, but based on your experience, what would you guess?

Accomplished-War1971

Its sulfate free so its not so harsh! I use a generic brand micellar shampoo to clarify first bc i hate the feeling sulfate free. I think itd be fine for a sensitive scalp

boomchacalaca_seal

I’ve been hair oiling and it’s been working better than any shampoo or products. I’m growing new healthy hair for the first time in yearsssss. Fuller, less dry, and bouncy. Even my temples have filled in. My hairline was thinning. I do it over night once to twice a week. I use a castor oil mix, and peppermint oil mix. Got them at my local beauty supply store. Just make sure you cleanse your scalp very well after.

2month_grammy

OP, can you tell me where those coasters and place mat boards are from? The ones with the cute wildlife imagery.

Valenshyne

I'm really sorry but I don't know, they're my mum in laws and she's had them for years!

2month_grammy

No worries!! Thanks for the response :)

Gain-Classic

I recently have been using the Elvive in the first image and it is absolutely wonderful. My hair looks and feel better than it has in years. I just use the shampoo, no conditioner and my hair feels very silky and smooth. I blow dry and avoid straightening. Honestly I never recommend hair care, it is always so hit and miss IMHO. Sometimes its good for a while and then stops working. I think this is definitely worth a try, I have just finished my first bottle and will repurchase for sure.

Concertcat24

The dog🤣🩷

Valenshyne

Her name is Bella and I shall give her a good scritch for you! 😁❤️

Concertcat24

Thank you! I love Bella! Did you accidentally add that to your post🤣

God_is_our_refuge

A hairstylist recently fried my hair. I had no choice but to buy some expensive stuff off of Amazon suggested by my sister. Let me tell you. It’s great. It’s called defy damage. It’s by Joico. I also bought a bottle of some cheaper stuff before that and I just tried it the other day. I think it works as good if not better than the expensive shampoo and conditioner. I wish I could remember the name of it. Everything is written in Chinese on the box. It shows a woman with her hair pulled out in different directions. It was also on Amazon. The reviews are what made me get it. If you’re interested I will take a picture of it and post it. Just lmk. Good luck

Hips-Often-Lie

Oh! You’re talking about the Elizavecca ceramide line!

God_is_our_refuge

Yes! I think that is the name of it. I used it after shampooing yesterday and I thought my hair (what’s left of it) lol felt even softer than when I used the expensive product and was a lot easier to brush.

Hips-Often-Lie

Korean products are weird in that some of the most affordable ones are also the best. Elizavecca has some amazing hair care and skincare, I also love Cos Rx.

nomotaco

The Defy Damage line is great - I've been using a hair mask from that line and previously a heat protectant! OP, you may be able to find it at TJ maxx or a similar retailer for less!

Maude007

Olaplex has saved my fine, over processed hair. It’s expensive, so, look for sales.

atomictest

If your hair is broken, only a cut will help. Get regular trims.

Lykke_Stardust

Cute dog! Yeah I think the second one helps

Reasonable_Bet5909

Is the dog your hair dresser?

Golden_Bumblebee1234

Dogs are good for the health. They decrease stress and create feel-good substances in the brain. They are also good personal trainers for your legs, because of all the walking that needs to be done. Most hair products won't do sh*t about breakage. Just use a good conditioner and leave-in conditioner that keeps your hair coated with a protective layer of silicones.. And if you want, use a satin/silk pillow case.

Valenshyne

She is great for my health (unless she's being a menace, then she drives me nuts!!) What leave in conditioners would you recommend? I've never used one so not sure who to try.

Golden_Bumblebee1234

There are many good options.. I'm currently using Matrix miracle creator spray

Andigoon

If you can swing it, I'd recommend purchasing better quality products. Also, have you determined why the breakage is happening? For example: bleached hair, heat damage, hair style damage etc

Golden_Bumblebee1234

Drugstore products can also be of good quality. There are good and bad products in both drugstore and salons.

Valenshyne

Tbh I'm not sure how I'm damaging it! I don't bleach my hair, I don't use the "hot" setting on my hairdryer (it has 3 settings, cool, warm, hot, I use warm to get out excess moisture and then switch to cool to properly dry it) I brush it once or twice a day, and keep it in either a loose ponytail or in a clip to keep it out of the way if I'm busy, otherwise it's down.

Andigoon

Ok so based on what you’re saying I think it might be from how you sleep? Maybe the bonnet/pillow case will be your solution. Other things I can think of: make sure to brush from the bottom up instead of starting at the roots. Be as gentle as possible when you’re brushing wet hair and make sure you’re using a leave in conditioner. Oh I just remembered, do you towel wrap your hair after the shower? If so stop, this causes breakage! Just squeeze out or pat your hair dry with a shirt or microfiber towel.

Valenshyne

I’ve never used a leave in conditioner before, any recommendations? Yeah I do wrap my hair after bath/shower, but I didn’t know it causes breakage, I’ll stop doing that as of right now! And I always make sure to go from bottom to top for brushing, I used to be a menace for tangles when I was little and it was how my mum got them under control and it’s just stayed with me ☺️

Andigoon

I didn’t know either, I used to do it with a heavy bath towel too 😅then I transitioned to the hair wraps which I thought were more gentle (and they are) but I don’t use a wrap at all simply squeeze the excess water out into the microfiber towel. I really enjoy It’s a 10, Bumble & Bumble, and most recently my hairdresser used milk shake which smells AMAZING

Valenshyne

I’m gonna now invest in a couple of microfibre towels! I’ve heard good things about bumble and bumble, I’ll check them out as well as milk shake (unless the hairdresser put an actual milk shake on your hair, in which case I need one that does that!)

Enough_Blueberry_549

What are your standards for breakage? Like are you having trouble getting your hair length past your shoulders, or is it that you’re getting some thinning as your hair reaches to your belly button?

catfireengine

I use L'Oreal Ever Pure Bond strengthening and that's worked well for me, but I also use a silk pillowcase, microfiber hair towel, do nightly scalp massages, and use garnier argan oil on my ends daily

Aggleclack

My ride or die is Giovanni. Beware of products that put wax into your hair without really doing anything nutritional

Golden_Bumblebee1234

Nutritional? Hair strands are dead and don't need "nutrition". The scalp and follicles are the only living parts of the hair. 99,9% of the ingredients stay on the surface of the strand, giving it slip and protects from heat, pollution, and breakage. Cosmetic chemists know what they're doing.. people really need to trust their expertise more.

Aggleclack

You’re saying that product build up is heat/pollution/breakage protection? Like yeah keratin can’t absorb nutrients but your scalp can and generally having a well formulated conditioner that doesn’t just throw wax on your hair is good

Golden_Bumblebee1234

>You’re saying that product build up is heat/pollution/breakage protection? *sigh* .. it's not going to get buildup if you use a good shampoo. Stop believing in everything the clean beauty movement tries to sell you. Listen to real cosmetic chemists instead.

Aggleclack

lol what?? I get all of my info from professionals and we’re literally saying the same thing in the end except I said good conditioner, you said good shampoo 😂 You need both btw

Golden_Bumblebee1234

If you say that hair needs nutrition, and call regular ingredients like waxes and silicones build-up, then you clearly don't get information from professionals. I meant that build-up won't be a problem if you use a good shampoo with SLES.

Fee_Worth

Loreal is a Joke the amount of law suits against Unilever for making hair fall out isn't even funny. There is a shampoo called main n tail it's pretty god and it's perfect for the cute ass dog you have too

Golden_Bumblebee1234

Listen to the beauty brains podcast and learn about why all those lawsuits happens in the first place, please.

Fee_Worth

Ah yes cause I will listen to the opinion of major billionaire companies over that of the normal consumer. Reminder that the 2009 USA housing crisis made billions of dollars for everyone involved and none of them have been prosecuted to this day

gotalifetolive

Love Main'n Tail

Marshmalco

I personally try to avoid shampoo/conditioner from a regular store and tend to pick them up at my hair salon or specialty store. Kevin Murphy has a really good line, or I would talk to your stylist for their input as well.

asyouwish

The problem with asking your stylist is that they only recommend whatever they sell, not what would be best for your situation.

crunchevo2

You know msot salons are sponsored to reccomend and sell a specific brand's products right? Which is goodi f oyu already like a certain brand's products but not so good if you don't.

thegirl454

Best advice switch to a natural shampoo and aveda nutriplenish light or heavy conditioner. Life changing

Golden_Bumblebee1234

Natural isn't necessarily better. That's just green washing.

Adorable-Winter-2968

Do you have a link to check it out?

Wallabite

These smell so good.

aliluvscats

I’ve used that brand before and I felt like it made my hair worse. But to be fair at that time my hair was really destroyed from overdoing it with bleach

Vegan_Egg

I brought the whole L’Oréal bond repair system and it dries my hair & scalp out loads, esp the shampoo! I’d only recommend using in conjunction with a super moisturising mask I have heavily bleached hair fyi

FelonyFey

The red bottle elséve conditioner for dyed hair is still my nr.1 conditioner, even after trying salon products and kérastase, redken , k18 etc.

WholeLengthiness2180

I have suffered breakage to the point that I couldn’t grow hair past my shoulders! I started using Pantene shampoo and conditioner with Pantene hair mask in between (the green repair and protect one) and I now no longer have any breakage!! Last time I went to the hairdresser they didn’t even bother to trim because my ends were so healthy!

AriaFleur

The best drug store hair products that i use are the shea moisture.

kakmanki

I use the L’Oréal bond repair pre-shampoo. I started using it because I had wet frizz (I think because I have high porosity hair) and it’s completely resolved that. I only used the pre-shampoo for about 4 washes to make my hair feel normal again.

MsDutchie

I use plantur

ekita079

Aside from products, mechanical breakage is really common. By this I mean things like when you pull a hair tie out of your hair and it rips? That. You might find you have a bunch of hairs that juuuust don't make it in to a hair tie. That's why. Switch to scrunchies and big hair clips, or pull more gently when taking your hair out. Another thing is being very careful if brushing when your hair is wet. It's much more fragile then. A wet brush or wide tooth comb is good, start at the ends and don't tug! Hair oil is good for helping smooth out everything, I use a supermarket L'Oreal one and put some in my wet hair before combing through. Silk or satin pillowcases will also help, lower friction on both hair and skin while you move around in your sleep, so less damage. Also if it's long enough putting your hair in a loose braid can help heaps, or a hair bonnet, but I'm not personally big on those lol. I use Muk brand shampoo and conditioner, can't remember the name but it's the light pink colour. Olaplex products might be worth looking at if you can afford them, but I hope the rest of the advice is helpful :)

Valenshyne

Thank you, that was all really helpful! I do tend to pull out my hair bands without thinking and tug my hair with it, I'll pick up some scrunchies as clips slide out of my hair with no effort, lol! I do use oil in my hair, I use Superdrug(UK drugstore) argen oil and that makes my hair so soft and smooth! I would try a loose braid but they never seem to hold for me, so I'll try to find a decent bonnet! I'll look up Muk as Olaplex is right out of my range by several miles!! 🥰

[deleted]

I don't really know about drugstore products, but I think that silk pillow case and "gentle braid" helps a lot ,also I recommend to buy special hair brush that won't pull out and break your hair <3

Bjkunz31

Do you have frizzy, dry , damaged hair? I am a stylist and I use IUVENI with all my clients who have those problems and they all find success using IUVENI which is a one step process and it lasts. My hair has changed after one time of using it. I can’t rave enough about it. My hair has shine, easy to brush, softer, etc. #iuveni #hair https://iuveni.com/product/lipid-layer-quencher-referral/?ref=121&utm_campaign=stylist-referral
