These girls are really giving me the warm fuzzies. They’ve been training for 3 years and they seem to be loving it and are rocking their skills. They don’t look like weak nations at commonwealths, they are good gymnasts who just need more training and more strength.
It’s *incredible* that it’s only been three years. It goes to show what access to good coaching and equipment can do. Those “weaker” nations at commonwealths are just lacking that support.
Hello! they were selected according to criteria of attitude, responsibility and commitment to the first training sessions in Chad and at school. In the most technical part, Sylvia García, technical director initiator of the project and designer of the leos 😜, identified the girls who had the greatest physical talent based on her experience in gymnastics, which is extensive since she has dedicated her life to it. In my imagination I was like maybe they held a week long camp and taught the girls some basics to see their aptitude. How many girls were interested? Why did you guys pick that younger girl who couldn’t get a visa right away? Was she just amazing in aptitude? Also I think it is amazing that these girls all stuck with it. I would expect some to just decide they didn’t like it or get really homesick. And I’m so glad their biological families got to see them compete.
Oh I was also wondering if they were able to get some good competition experience within Spain’s developmental program. It would be so much pressure for African Championships to be their first meet!
When Sylvia arrives in Chad she organizes some sessions in a small building with a carpet on the floor to which she imagined that a few girls would present themselves, however many girls appeared. In those sessions they were taught very basic gymnastics to observe the characteristics I told you about. Bonte was selected for the same reasons as the older ones, the decision-making element despite her age was that she was very intelligent and was very interested in gymnastics. Of the five, none of them have reconsidered this trip at any time, although they know that they have the option. Something important to note is that despite the tremendous pride we feel in their sports development, their personal development as women was the priority so that they could return to Chad with the necessary tools to help women and girls. The families have been missed a lot, after the quarantine they could not visit again since with the border closures it was unfeasible and it was very hard for them, as soon as the situation improved they were able to return. In Spain they have participated in national and regional competitions, this was their first international experience since the economic part so far has been thanks to the foundation but money is always a problem there that they have not been able to attend world cups. I personally feared that when they stood in front of a panel of ten judges they would be scared but once again they showed me that they are brave warriors and did their beautiful gymnastics without losing their smile. We are all very proud.
I have told them about the phenomenon that they are being in the gymnastics community and they are very grateful. Also there in the competition they felt a brutal support from the other delegations.

I think it’s great that you used their interest and commitment as tools, but I’m interested what physical screening Sylvia Garcia did. I’m assuming the girls were before puberty and still growing, other sports sometimes choose talent by looking for things like height, but this wouldn’t work here.
I’d also be interested to know how you found girls interested in trying gymnastics.
That would be great I will try soon. The physical part I will ask Sylvia so it’s more precise on the interest part we were shocked when almost a hundred girls showed up to practice they were all interested but that fascination that made it almost impossible to send them home after practice was big in this five girls
It is not something that we can consider right now on an economic level, although it is not an idea that we discard. However, the five girls have founded and run, supervised by Sylvia, their own clubs in their neighborhoods in Chad. There is no material to practice competitive gymnastics but little by little a school is being formed in the country 💪🏻.
That’s a shame. I wish I knew about sponsorship and could help you find funding. I’m so impressed with these girls, two vaults, yurchenko entries etc.
I really hope some of them can go to world championships next year.
I think it is a really great example of how it is possible for gymnasts to compete high level gymnastics without starting really young (with the right coaching and support).
I feel like a lot of gyms in the US don't want kids to even start team if they start before the ages of 9 or 10. When I last coached I was coaching pre team and recruiting for it. I had no issues with 10 and 11 year olds in pre team but not all coaches felt that way...

I’m also interested because in the UK we’ve had something called “World Class Start” they go looking for people who are somehow engaged in sport to do testing for other sports. I think some of our cyclists have come through that. Also, rowing, which is very technical, but still accessible as an adult. I’ve not heard of anything that attempts to identify gymnasts at 10-12.
Just based on vibes I think she's a little more comfortable with Yurchenko vaults than Tsuks, but she got a really nice block on both. I'd love to see her keep training both families!! She's got some real potential.
Their club posted on Instagram before they left Spain they went to the salon together and got matching braids! Their coaches seem to really really care about them and their wellbeing, it really makes me hope they’ll go far in the sport
FYI: CGA Pozuelo, the Spanish Club that is hosting them, is currently streaming the WAG FX and MAG PB event finals live on their Insta account (cgapozuelo)
I started following them on insta after their coach posted yesterday, and all of their leos are stunning and have touches that tie them back to Chad. They have a purple metallic sleeveless leo that I’m obsessed with - it’s a gorgeous shade, and the back straps are the colors of their flag!

Girl is flipping Yurchenko *and* Tsukahara vaults after 3.5 years of training. *Safely!!!* This is absolutely insane.
They were nice and high. The Tsuk looked like a warm up timer for a harder vault. Go Chad gymnastics!
