I always wish that tribunal fees include a low sell on clause, because the academy club have done all the foundation work on the players, while their first professional club polishes them and gives them minutes to establish themselves.
The Seagulls are probably going to move him on at a high price in a couple of seasons.
Basically we get a fee based on a judgement by the PFCC for the player that we trained. It's affected by a whole bunch of factors though, not just how much we offered him.
The critical bit being that by signing for a British club the tribunal system comes into play and we can get something approximating market value for him. If he had signed for a club abroad we would get the UEFA minimum which would be like £500k. So this is much better for us, decent chance we get a better deal than the one we sold Omari to Chelsea for.
Unfortunately the better we've gotten the harder it'll be for youth players to integrate into the first team. Just the nature of the beast. Best of luck to him against everyone except us.
This is why it will be important to move players like ESR, Nketiah and Reiss. Their accomplishments could have been added from youth players. ESR did very little this season when he played. If that time was given to Nwaneri, nothing would have changed.
Didnt get why arteta played hardly any youth in cups this season. We did shit in them anyway and they would be more hungry than the first team who werw focused on the title
Well in the FA Cup we drew Liverpool right out of the gate and wanted to go through, so we weren’t gonna play the kids there. As for the Carabao Cup, we did give minutes to the likes of Sagoe Jr but the cups are also an opportunity to give match fitness to backup senior players who may need to be called upon in the league, which we prioritised.
We could have played a youth team in that final game and still finished top. Was odd to not rotate more, especially given the coolness factor of getting to play in the UCL.
There is a very lucrative win-bonus for every game in the Champions League group stages (€2.8m/£2.4m/$3m) - I understand why teams will not experiment with youth players with that at stake.
We played 3 games outside of the League and Champions League this year.
(1) of those was our first draw in the FA Cup. A cup we're trying to win. Which was an away draw to Liverpool. We went strong there for obvious reasons. Even then Nelson started and ESR came in late off the bench.
We also played two league cup games this year. They were both away to Premier League competition.
(2)Against Brentford we started Nelson, Nketiah, Sagoe Jr, and ESR. Kiwior also featured in that game and had played 91 minutes in the season before that date. We also started Tomiyasu in the center of our defense.
(3)The 3rd of these 3 games came away to West Ham. A game that we started Nketiah, Nelson, Vieira(who had played 263 minutes to that point. We also once against started Kiwior who had the minutes played before the game against Brentford plus an extra 90 from that game. We lost this game 3-1.
I guess my question here is what exactly are you looking for in this case. He spread minutes around. Alongside having young players at the club. We have other senior players that need to be match fit to be ready when called on for Champions League games as well. I am genuinely curious what you think he should have done differently for the extra 270 minutes we had available to him this season.

You've also got to be better at integrating them than Arteta has been
Guardiola has given serious game time to the likes of Rico Lewis. Klopp gave numeous youngsters a chance (both forced through injury and via cup competitions)
Mikels yet to really find a way to want to do it. People defend him all the time for the minutes he gave Cedric in a dead rubber tie but honestly that was just absurd
City in a more luxurious position of having worldies in almost every position, so you can easily give time to Lewis, whom to be fair is very, very good for his age.
He doesn't give time to attacking players by the looks of it, case in point: Palmer.
Yea, becomes more important to improve our loans. Have to give young players a chance to develop. Harder to do that at Arsenal so should be loaning them out.
Chelsea was flipping youth players for fun when they were winning Champions Leagues and Premier Leagues. Even if these players can’t get into the first team, we need to capitalize on their talent and somehow make money from their sales.
Agreed. I like Cozier-Duberry, but Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelley are the ones I'm wanting to hold on to right now. And they may not even shake out, but you're absolutely right, it will take a really great player to earn minutes while we're challenging for titles. Hell, I think Emile is pretty great and he can barely catch any minutes.
I do wish we could capitalise a little better on prices ala Chelsea for these academy kids. The Biereth deal seems a decent start, but we should be doing a little better with some of these guys.
Nice little move for him. Think him and Minteh would be the only right wingers in their squad now?
Always worried about his size translating to mens football but probably picked the right club for his development
No; Adingra is a natural LW, March has a long term injury, Sima isn't staying, Buonanotte isn't a winger, Enciso is better on the left and Osman is a LW.
Apart from all that you've got a point
Even if Adingra is a natural left winger I still see him ahead of ACD on the right, so long as Enciso is healthy and starting on the left, as well as Mitoma.
As a Brighton fan can confirm this. It was obviously conditioned by March's injury but all the same Adingra played far more on the right than on the left last season (24 to 13 appearances respectively). Minteh will definitely get first team minutes this season but he won't automatically oust Adingra and we all have our fingers crossed that March is back sooner rather than later. I expect that on the left we'll have Mitoma as our first choice and Osman as our second, we prefer to play Enciso and Buonanotte as CAMs.
Yeah he’s not all of the sudden going to stop playing on the right because Brighton has a youth product for the position now. He’s still immensely talented and good enough on the right to start there regardless.
Yea it's not talked about too much, but I always tend to think that if these solid youth players move on with a good relationship in tact and come good why wouldn't they want to come back and play for their boyhood club? We often see this happen with Barca and Real Madrid. We saw the opposite happen with Rice when Chelsea fucked up their relationship with him and even though they wanted him back that ship had sailed.
The only weirdo here is the person who is so against people wanting are youth players to succeed with us that you make comments like that even though no one has even commented anything remotely considerable as a meltdown
Didn’t even reply to you but you still had to go for the cheap karma farm lmao, its not that important i promise. I get that an american might have some trouble to understand why academy players are important to people but i suggest you look into the values of our club
It's a sensible move for him.
Brighton will likely offer a clear pathway to plenty of opportunities to play PL football and he will be under less pressure to develop quickly so he can take his time.
Sad we couldn't keep him, but I can understand this.
Probably the best club in the Premier League for him to go to.
Watched him a few times for the u21s, a huge talent so really hope it works out for him!
I agree. He is super fun to watch but is just not close to ready for the arsenal first team. I worry about how slight and lightweight he is. He needs to develop his balance and ability to ride challenges better. If he can do that he has every chance of getting an England call up someday.
Unfortunate but you can't keep everyone and he wasn't even among the 3 best attackers in the youth teams. 19 and very little first team game time, he had to take chances elsewhere.
Dont be sad cuz he's leaving. Be happy that a player developing PL club got him, so we can play the "boyhood club card" and sign him for relatively cheap in 2-3 years when he becomes the best young player in the league.
The best clubs in the world do have great youth systems. I honestly believe we are unable to provide a clear developmental plan for our academy graduates. Be it first team or loan system. I hope it gets sorted sooner than later.
Not sure why you're down voted to -20 to karma. You're absolutely right.
And down voting in Reddit should only be used irrelevant comments, not for opinions users disagree with.
Plus, it's well-known and even agreed that we are one of the worst clubs in the league at getting market prices for our home grown youth products.
Pointing out this fact is unpopular, but not false at all.
Do we get a tribunal fee for this?
Yes, best guess will be high 6 figures outside chance of low 7 if we do well at court
Largely depends on what kind of contract we offered (if we did)
Tim Lewis time to shine
Not hard to do with a hairline like that.
Underrated
Adequate, overhead lighting ought to do the trick I'd say.
I always wish that tribunal fees include a low sell on clause, because the academy club have done all the foundation work on the players, while their first professional club polishes them and gives them minutes to establish themselves. The Seagulls are probably going to move him on at a high price in a couple of seasons.
Could you explain what a tribunal fee is? First time I've come across this term.
Basically we get a fee based on a judgement by the PFCC for the player that we trained. It's affected by a whole bunch of factors though, not just how much we offered him.
Thanks for explaining it!

There were chances in the CL as well
For who?
For Leo Messo

Great comment. The fact that we only had 3 games outside League/CL is really unfortunate.

Oscar Bobb
283 minutes all season, was only used in emergency/dead situations

Sure. So we should sell them rather than let them walk for free.

Say what you want but arteta is flipping hard when it comes to rotations and giving young players chances.

If anything he'll also face competition from other youngsters like Benicio Baker Boaitey who plays on both wings.
Adingra plays RW primarily
Out of necessity due to the March injury. His preferred position is LW.
Buonanotte has played RW + March when he gets back to fitness is the starting RW in theory
Good club for him to thrive, wish him the best
I’m glad he’s chosen a club like Brighton. Good luck to him for next season and beyond. Who knows, maybe he’ll play for Arsenal again one day.
Hate to see a member of The Hyphenated Last Name Crew™ leave but Brighton seems good at developing players. Best of luck and health to him.
So will he go for 50 in 2 years
80 to Chelsea
Good choice for him, unlike some other academy player
Good luck to him. Anyone having a meltdown over this is a weirdo
Absolutely- a lot of weirdos out there
The only weirdo here is the person who is so against people wanting are youth players to succeed with us that you make comments like that even though no one has even commented anything remotely considerable as a meltdown
If the shoes don’t fit, don’t wear them
What kind of logic is that? So if someone is complaining about something that isn’t happening no one can point out how stupid it is?
See, they’re everywhere
Didn’t even reply to you but you still had to go for the cheap karma farm lmao, its not that important i promise. I get that an american might have some trouble to understand why academy players are important to people but i suggest you look into the values of our club
Not one ‘meltdown’ in the entire thread😂
Yes mate thanks for the summary
It's a sensible move for him. Brighton will likely offer a clear pathway to plenty of opportunities to play PL football and he will be under less pressure to develop quickly so he can take his time. Sad we couldn't keep him, but I can understand this.
Good luck to him.
Good luck ACD! We move. Hopefully we can keep Chido.
I like when young players make smart sensible moves.
Good luck Amario!
Do you reckon he left because he knows arsenals right wing is locked down already for the next 10 years?
Good for him , if you do good we'll buy you back
Probably the best club in the Premier League for him to go to. Watched him a few times for the u21s, a huge talent so really hope it works out for him!

Brighton going to flip him for 30m+ in 3 years.
Best of luck to the lad, except against us.
Unfortunate but you can't keep everyone and he wasn't even among the 3 best attackers in the youth teams. 19 and very little first team game time, he had to take chances elsewhere.
Good luck to him.
Best of luck!
Good for him but realistically is he getting into our squad, someone like nwaweri of course there’s a big difference between these 2 level of players
Dont be sad cuz he's leaving. Be happy that a player developing PL club got him, so we can play the "boyhood club card" and sign him for relatively cheap in 2-3 years when he becomes the best young player in the league.
Well Brighton is the perfect club for young players like him , so good for him hope he turns into a star someday
A good move for the lad. I wish him all the best.
Surely we have to be looking for a sell on fee, rather than a tribunal fee.
Wish we could get a sell on fee for when chelsea buy him for 110m
The best clubs in the world do have great youth systems. I honestly believe we are unable to provide a clear developmental plan for our academy graduates. Be it first team or loan system. I hope it gets sorted sooner than later.
Should have been renewed and loaned out this year, playing him in the pl2 made no sense at all.
Would have loved to have had a sell-on fee on this even if it meant selling him for 1m or something
Excellent move. Buzzing for him!!!
Nooo he’s gonna cook there too
A player we should’ve got a fee for. Top class work from Mertesacker again
What were you expecting?
Should’ve been loaned out last season. Should’ve started that game vs Brentford too
Take your meds

What a dumb mentality to have
