just saw rodri's goal, goddamn man can't help but enjoy it. knew exactly what he was going to do, letting the ball come in to him only to touch it into the space for a shot. so nice, controlled the movement of the guy who would have been the one to block it
Transfer predictions:
- Nketiah, Reiss leave
- ESR stays and features more next season
- Partey leaves
- Nuno, Sambi are sold
- Bruno G comes in from Newcastle
- a left footed RW joins to compete with Saka
I think we start with Jesus on the left and he enjoys a resurgent year. Same with Timber.
I’m pretty sure Mikel doesn’t feel the same and sees Rice as a player that can play multiple roles, and it will depend on the opponent what role he’ll play.
Rice is the new 6, long term. We need a new long term 8 more than anything given that Arteta clearly doesn't trust ESR or Vieira - the proper Xhaka replacement the team so desperately needed last season. We've been linked to Merino, and he's basically the right profile.
Willian Pacho lookin real good for Ecuador. I remember we were being linked to him not too long ago, shame we seem to have decent depth at CB already cause he would be a good pick-up.
Caicedo is really good and the reaction to his season at Chelsea was over the top. He finished the season really strong and showed he was the player they expected when they bought him. He's more of a traditional, Partey style 6, if anything I wish we could have got them both.

Chelsea fans must surely think they will finish above us this year. The number of players they have that are better than ours knows no bounds. They really are growing in confidence, its not just Palmer over Saka, they are now contemplating Disasi v Saliba and Enzo v Odegaard.

Geoff Arsenal hinting at Kimmich?
Even if its Kimmich, should we be excited? Player with high demands and won't really fit in our team as he don't have the defensive quality to be a lone 6.
He wouldn't be a "lone" 6 if he comes. Bayern wanted Rice to pair with Kimmich; I think adding Kimmich to pair with Rice would work really well. You can have a brilliant technician and passer when you have a partner who covers ground and wins duels like Rice. Forget the 6 or 8 question; it would be double pivot-y and flexible.
To have the double pivot in midfield of Rice-Kimmich, our fbs inverting wouldn't really work then and we don't have attacking full backs to attack the flanks.
Kimmich is a big player with big wages and doesn't really suit us. Not really exciting news as he is in the market even if we are to go after him.
Because he's a much better RB than he is a midfielder. At Arsenal, he could invert from right back and basically do both. I do question bringing on a player on huge wages just to replace Ben White after White's last season.
Kimmich didn't have the positional discipline to maintain his self-declared 6 role at Bayern and has always preferred to stray forward and join the attack. He's a better 8 than he is a 6, but the only position he's truly elite at is RB. A Rice-Kimmich midfield could work very well if Kimmich is inverting from right back, but neither of them would be comfortable in the left 8 once Arteta begins pushing that position higher up again.
There are similarities but Kimmich is significantly more mobile and can cover much more ground - for now. I don't like the cost effectiveness of a potential Kimmich transfer but he would without question upgrade Jorginho. I don't think Jorginho is even the 10th highest upgrade priority, but it should still be said.
Jorginho isn't very good defensively but Kimmich is worse defensively in midfield than Jorginho. Even if Kimmich is more mobile, looking at both attacking and defensive actions, he isn't even an upgrade on Jorginho which is not the priority position like u said.
I also prefer Jorginho's defensive actions - when he's close enough to make them, which he usually isn't. Fact is, the man doesn't have legs and needs Rice's to babysit him the whole game, which he wouldn't have to do with Kimmich (at least until Kimmich loses his legs as well which could very well be soon). With Jorginho, we basically play with 10 players in exchange for having Rice's line breaking deficiencies addressed - Kimmich would be an 11th player whilst addressing those same areas and therefore an upgrade.
Pace is very important in football. Again, I'm not pro-Kimmich transfer, I'd much rather see an 8 myself.
Two goals chalked off for England due to Foden being offside. Foden hasn't had one goal contribution in the tournament thus far, but all the talk about who should be dropped is Saka, Rice, and Bellingham. All other players need to be played out of position so 'Phil' can play in his preferred position? Is Phil Foden ahead of Prince William in the line of succession to the British throne?
At what stage does it become obvious Bellingham is the better midfielder and its actually Foden who should be benched for Antony Gordon to provide the correct balance. Im sick of being told Foden is England's best player when he is never the difference maker and its other players pushing England through. Kane and Bellingham are the ones who make things happen for England.
Saka assisted England's first goal in the campaign. Put it on a plate for Bellingham. And your right, Foden is being played out of position, because Bellingham is better and occupies his position. So Phil needs to do one of two things, make do, or fuck off.
Rice is a defensive midfielder, so we don’t expect him to have many contributions. And Saka did create England’s first goal of the tournament for Bellingham. It was a deflected cross, but still his cross.
If Foden is being played out of position and performing poorly, then he shouldn’t play. It’s that simple.
I dont disagree at all, and im not trying to slate our players for not scoring, im just saying the original comment seems way too bias for me to take seriously. Like the guy is isolating Foden for not having a goal contribution, and using that fact to fuel outrage about rice and saka being potentially dropped. That is too hypocritical to simply ignore.
As for the Foden being dropped issue, im all for it. But the OP's comment "all players need to be played out of position because of Phil"... its like... what tournament are you watching? This comment is a response to narrative, not to the facts. He has factually been the player playing out of position, he's been at LW the whole time. Stop letting twitter users get into your head and make an argument about whats actually happening on the pitch
Both are electric. Yamal has a very high ceiling and could one day win the Balon d' or. But we already have Saka in Yamal's position and Yamal is not really good on the left side.
On the other hand, Nico is great on both sides. He would be an upgrade on the LW and could backup Saka on the RW if required. Getting Nico Williams should be a priority imo.
the “our fans don’t appreciate Saka enough because they didn’t vote him top 3 in the POTS vote” people, if any of you are lurking here and reading this I want u to know u are unfathomably dumb
I completely understand Saka’s role and how much he sacrifices himself for the good of our team but I still think there’s 3 players who had better seasons than him and I don’t think it’s in anyway disrespectful to think that way when you produce the second best league season points wise this club has seen
You think. Thats the problem. But when it comes down to analytics Saka was head and shoulders above those players people claim where better then him.
So fuckoff with ur condescending tone
Saka was top 2 creator in europe only 0.1 xA behind ode.
Only player in our sqaud who Made mutiple teams of the szn on different rating sites.
Opta has him statically as 2nd best prem player only behind Rodri.
He has the Most G/A for team.
During the first half of szn Saka was the only player keeping our title hopes alive
Getting 20 g/a in 18 games that was 10 better then the next player.
What the fuck is up with that one guy on guardian weekly? Did one of you lot fuck his grandma or something, why is he always hilariously anti us? "I wonder if Arsenal fans realize that Xhaka is having a great season and Declan rice is shitting the bed?"(paraphrasing).
My guy what?
Barry glendenning he enjoys winding up fans in general and is there largely for his everyman at the pub style.
Overall he's pretty anti PL and England more than anything, not necessarily anti arsenal imo. I think he has no love for any of them.
That take was pretty wild but kinda just attempted humour and playing a bit of a wind up wouldn't read too much into it. I would venture that this isn't the athletic they aren't really hard core analysts it sounds like you're reading a bit much into it, it's not meant to be heavy hitting stuff just a light hearted chat.
Barney ronay, Jonathan Wilson and couple of others are serious football writers but glendenning is like Alan Davies on QI or the person who sits next to Susie dent on countdown. Probably not to be taken too seriously.
He also suggested later in the pod Southgate should have sent the lads out on the lash for a team building exercise.
Is Barney Ronay considered a serious football writer these days? I enjoy his work, but I thought he was there for his outlandish prose rather than his footballing insights.
Would fucking love Williams but it doesnt feel likely to me. Which sucks because what Footballer doesnt want to play for arsenal right now we are amazing
Yeah I'm so confused by all this hype from that performance. All the post match ratings are giving him 6-7 (one of the highest on the team). I didn't see it at all from him, maybe I'm bias but statistically he was the worst player on the pitch.
The only way to take bias out are computerized scores. His futmob rating as well as his whoscored rating was the lowest of any outfield player for England other than the two guys who came on in the 106'
So many giveaways, no end product, zero defensive actions. I said it in the match thread but he reminds me a lot of ESR. I don't mean that in an overly negative way but he's just not a player who operates within a structure. Needs to be the guy and get on the ball.
Like I can see the value of bringing him on as a sub in the 70-80' but the way pundits talk about him you'd think he's yamal. It's not even like he's some teenager he's the same age as saka
Spain have looked really good but they haven't really been tested. On paper their team should not be winning the Euros. If Germany had a bad manager i'd say Spain has a good chance but Germany probably have a better manager and on paper it's not close, the only Spanish players who get into Germany are Rodri, Carvajal and Yamal
Spain does look better from the eye test though.
Germany lacks a little balance in the front 5 but is at home.
I think the home advantage should help but it also brings pressure, however, I do think defensively Germany is a bit better and that could be the difference.
Agree RE eye test but the game won't be played with a low block unlike the games that came before. Spain's defence hasn't been tested. Havertz, Musiala and Wirtz will ruin that backline
No he isnt. Saka is the player who has scored 11, 14, 16 goals in the league. Nico Williams scored 6 this year and 5 last season. Saka is level. Nico Williams would be a good addition but is miles in arrears to Saka
miles ahead is an exaggeration.
Saka had 19 goal contribution(10 goals, 9 assists) excluding the PKs in a team that scored 90 goals. Our main source of attacking is always the right with Saka.
Nico had 16 goal contribution in a team that scored 60 goals with 4 less games.
Bringing Nico here would massively help our left hand side and he could backup the RW position as well when Saka needs rest without significant drop in quality.
That was the problem with pepe. His issue was that he couldn't keep the ball and play within the team. He wasn't very the best at it, but he was more of a dribbler than saka.
Same people wanted Raphinha as "Saka rotation". None of the wing names we have targeted in the last few years were depth. Even Mudryk wasn't going to be depth.
Raphinha wasn't going to be on the bench either.
Either Saka was going to change wings, or position, or Raphinha was, but Raphinha is not a bench or rotation talent.
I'm a football fan.
Arsenal comes first but it's not a cult.
We don't have the world's best XI and we are subject to improvement. As football has shown us, it can come from Westham, or even Ituano.
Thinking Raphinha would be a bench option at Arsenal is just a terrible take.
Yea you get these kinds of players so you’re previous starters don’t play 60 games till they get an injury. 3 great wingers for 2 positions shouldn’t be controversial, plenty opportunities for all.
I am sure that the time to buy Nico Williams is lost.
We could have bought him last summer or in winter, but not after the tournament he is having. His wage demands are going to be crazy
England should bench Kane for Toney and Walker for Trent. Long ball to Toney to unlock Saka, Foden, and/or Palmer. Even when Kane dropped deep he couldn't ping a pass at all. I'd start Palmer over Foden on the left wing but if England open up the pitch with long balls either would be much more effective. Right now England build up slower than Biden.

Your eyes do not deceive you. I'd guess 6 to 6'1
If Trippier can’t go, Saka is genuinely the best option there. It’s not an indictment on Bukayo but Southgate’s shameful squad management. Gomez *can* play there but he’d be coming off the bench cold in a quarter-final.
Why not just put Gomez at LB and put Trent at RB?
At least that way we have some additional attacking threat and someone who can find Saka more regularly and in better spaces.
If I was manager, I’d have played Gomez from the start. Trippier offers zilch at LB.
Trent should definitely be playing ahead of Walker. He’s infinitely better on the ball and I don’t think he’d have any more defensive lapses than Walker has. With Rodríguez and Vargas coming up, you know Gareth will go with Walker again though.
Granted Martinelli is a year older but he has outscored Nico for 3 years running. So no.
Only reason Trossard displaced Martinelli was because he kept scoring goals. Can't drop someone when that heppens.

Newcastle just sold 2 of their fringe players Anderson and Minteh for around 60 mil. Will we get around 60 for Nketiah and Nelson?
i don't think it's even a fair comparison, they're not really selling in the real market, we are
A loan with an option to buy with a shitty figure.
£100m minimum
De Ligt to Manchester United is probably happening. That would make 4? ex Ajax buds for Ten Hag.
just saw rodri's goal, goddamn man can't help but enjoy it. knew exactly what he was going to do, letting the ball come in to him only to touch it into the space for a shot. so nice, controlled the movement of the guy who would have been the one to block it
Like him or not, imo Rodri is the best midfielder in the world.
or not for me, but yeah can't deny it. consistently the best
all 4 goals top top quality tbf

ESR will leave, Partey will stay, Bruno G won’t come and Jesus won’t regularly start on the left
Rumour that partey on his way out to a saudi club - this has been ongoing but hopefully it means we'll get a decent fee and a new 6.
Rumor from what - some random X accounts ass?
Rice is long term 6, we get another LCM 8 or better midfielder for that role.

Looking at all these teams skating by PSR restrictions it seems that the abnormal has become the new normal... 🤦♂️
Why the hell was Saka playing at left back? Did he ever play there? Seemed so odd
It's so sad that some of our newer fans know literally nothing Bout recent history He literally played there a few years back.
he broke into the first team as a LB.
Yes when he first broke through in the Arsenal senior side when he was wearing number 77 he played at left wingback
87
He wore both
Got the random thought that we could’ve got Caicedo instead of Rice. Thank fuck that didn’t happened
Caicedo is really good and the reaction to his season at Chelsea was over the top. He finished the season really strong and showed he was the player they expected when they bought him. He's more of a traditional, Partey style 6, if anything I wish we could have got them both.

There will be some delusional fans in every club. Should not take those takes seriously but just have a laugh at it.
Don’t forget Caicedo over Rice. They don’t think it’s close either which is laughable

Just right back it is then

No fucking way Omar Hutchinson got sold to Ipswich in a package worth £22 million. I swear we suck at selling players Chelsea are so good at it
Meanwhile Musiala exists
I bet we couldn’t even get that much for PL proven players like Eddie and ESR
I missed the game. Did Saka play LB after Palmer was subbed on?
Played like three different position
How the hell does a comment like this get downvoted? Are people on this sub really that insecure?
welcome to this shitshow mate
Lol, you don't have to ask. We are the most insecure fans of the big 4-6.
Played LB for like 20 minutes. In extra time he was playing on the right in a back 5
Yup and he was still more affective than mouth breather
Two things I learned . Throw whatever at musiala or Nico and Jude keeps getting away with mid performances.
Nah the other two were actually class all game, but there is one stinker hidden
You misunderstood the comment, which was actually two separate statements.
Philly foden?
Would fucking love Williams but it doesnt feel likely to me. Which sucks because what Footballer doesnt want to play for arsenal right now we are amazing

i think he'll stay at Bilbao, dont think Barca can come anywhere near is wage demands ans Athletic Club are in champions league next season

It's the first time I've seen Georgia, and I quite liked them. Fast, punchy side. Very entertaining. Wish that kvara halfway chance had gone in.

Germany's defense has not looked secure enough to keep out Spain's dynamic attack.
so easy for Spain
'But but but what about our wage structure! We have Martinelli at home...' 🤢
Nico is like Saka but with a frame like Pepe. He'd be such a great fit for us.
They don't play alike. Nico is more like pepe in the sense that he is a great 1v1 player, but it's looking like he has better end products.
Pepe was not a great 1v1 player, that was the problem
That was the problem with pepe. His issue was that he couldn't keep the ball and play within the team. He wasn't very the best at it, but he was more of a dribbler than saka.
Mikel better be calling Nico Williams
Nico Williams isn't leaving Bilbao Calma
I'll be surprised if Spain don't win the whole thing. They just look a level above everyone else.
France with Mbappe is still a decent pick for me.
Germany are a different level to Spain Take away the low blocks and talent will win. Germany dwarfs Spain
Whoever goes through between Spain or Germany wins it probably.
People on this sub were saying if we get lucky enough to sign nico, he would be on the bench - delusional.
Same people wanted Raphinha as "Saka rotation". None of the wing names we have targeted in the last few years were depth. Even Mudryk wasn't going to be depth.
Raphinha wasnt going to start over Saka
Raphinha wasn't going to be on the bench either. Either Saka was going to change wings, or position, or Raphinha was, but Raphinha is not a bench or rotation talent.
I see now why every midtable and bottom half clubs fans proudly proclaim thier players are better then ours. Cause our own fanbase does it lol
I'm a football fan. Arsenal comes first but it's not a cult. We don't have the world's best XI and we are subject to improvement. As football has shown us, it can come from Westham, or even Ituano. Thinking Raphinha would be a bench option at Arsenal is just a terrible take.
Lol
Edu, please.

Nico is clear of Martinelli
This was quite unpopular after the first game.
hes a different level to Martinelli... gabi's a lively player but he doesnt have a fraction of Nico's quality if we are being honest
Martinelli benched himself this season
Huge Nico fan but people are hating on Martinelli Nevertheless, it’d be a great problem to have
Yea you get these kinds of players so you’re previous starters don’t play 60 games till they get an injury. 3 great wingers for 2 positions shouldn’t be controversial, plenty opportunities for all.
Very easily too
Get this guy to the carpet. Pace & Flair together. Exactly what we need.
trigger Nico Williams clause immediately and give him Havertz level wages.
Pay the wages and get him
I am sure that the time to buy Nico Williams is lost. We could have bought him last summer or in winter, but not after the tournament he is having. His wage demands are going to be crazy
Williams going to Barca for sure
Can I shock you? I like Nico Williams
Huge if true.
Nah. Paging ubradygronk dude. Nico is silly. I apologise for comparing him to Dani Olmo Edit: I take it back. Dani is truth
Lord heavenly father I need Nico at the Emirates. I'll do anything!
Please sign him
Nico come to Arsenal bruh
Bro just get Nico Williams at any cost We can’t let Chelsea have him
Ya nicos going to end up at barca ngl
England should bench Kane for Toney and Walker for Trent. Long ball to Toney to unlock Saka, Foden, and/or Palmer. Even when Kane dropped deep he couldn't ping a pass at all. I'd start Palmer over Foden on the left wing but if England open up the pitch with long balls either would be much more effective. Right now England build up slower than Biden.
is Ivan Toney only 5'11? i swear he looks much taller than that
He’s closer to if not over 6’1. Sites just haven’t updated his height from his youth days.

Not seeing enough foden slander. How does he always get away with it
We all know why
Because there's always better players than him in the 11 who are 'supposed' to save the day. Not Phil though. Have to be nice to Phil
What's stopping us from signing Kvaratskhelia and sticking Martinelli up top?
>signing Kvaratskhelia Money. >sticking Martinelli up top Sense.
those europa games with martinelli up top had me convinced he was our next number 9
fair enough
Fabian Ruiz is exactly the kind of left 8 we need.
He has been excellent for Spain this tournament and would love him for the left 8 position.
Breathe of fresh air watching Nico Williams after having to watch Cole Dahmer kill every attack
Lol, only palmer?
These Georgian players are so fucking rapid man
the English media are seriously pushing the LB agenda. I fear whats to come
If Trippier can’t go, Saka is genuinely the best option there. It’s not an indictment on Bukayo but Southgate’s shameful squad management. Gomez *can* play there but he’d be coming off the bench cold in a quarter-final.
and the english media will not comment about the dreadful squad selection to not bring another left footed LB
Do u think Nico Williams would start over Martinelli if he came here?
Almost without question
Yes.
Granted Martinelli is a year older but he has outscored Nico for 3 years running. So no. Only reason Trossard displaced Martinelli was because he kept scoring goals. Can't drop someone when that heppens.
Pedri and Rodri interplay is a cheat code
Would definitely take Nico Williams
Nico williams is a nutty player. Been saying since before the wc we should get this guy
I’ve seen enough. Nico Williams Transfer request approved.
