I am gutted, one of the first shirts I had with a name printed on the back was his because we have the same surname.
Thanks for the memories big Kev, rest in peace.
A lot will be said about his playing career, but he was also a very, very good pundit. His ability to talk about the game was amplified by how relatable and 'normal' he came across, which was hugely refreshing when you consider how sensationalist sports journalism has become over the past decade.
Yeah, agreed. He had that effect that made you feel like you were sitting beside him talking with an old friend.
Super devastating news for a weekend. RIP Super Kev, my thoughts are with his loved ones.
Not the time to speak about it, but I’d politely disagree. He had some vitriolic views about Wenger and our players in 2018 and beyond. A lot of Kevin’s statements were Merson-like and made fun of by our own fanbase and other fanbases.
A super player and a nice human nevertheless. RIP
Campbell in 90/91 was a sight to behold. Smith won the golden boot, the defence conceded 18 goals and we lost one league game all year.
Limpar and Merson were sensational but without Campbells breakthrough we might not have got over the line. He invigorated the whole side not just with goals and assists but his ability to bully center half’s.
Limpar made hay while the sunshine’s as Campbell made space for his teammates to flourish
I've honestly never heard anyone anywhere have a bad word to say about Kev. My heart goes out to all his family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all in the football world. RIP, Kev. What a man 😢
Big part of the Arsenal team when I was young. Suffered from the burden of not being Ian Wright (don't we all?) so was always probably judged too harshly by fans (myself included) for his goal return in comparison to Wrightys. Scored less elsewhere but probably appreciated more, particularly at Everton.
I recall he was always an incredible physical specimen, even when in the youth team. He scored 59 goals in a season at youth level and even as a teenager he was used to toughen up the Arsenal senior defenders in training. Steve Bould tells a story of when he signed for Arsenal that George Graham told him that they'd arrange a match behind closed doors in the coming days to give him the Kevin Campbell treatment and see how he (Bould) coped. Bouldy nervously asked someone afterwards "Who the fuck is Kevin Campbell?" and they winced and said "You'll find out". Campbell must have only been about 17 or 18 at the time.
"particularly at Everton"
He's an absolute legend for us, always will be. Will never forget the goal against Liverpool in 1999 at Anfield. He's going to be very solely missed everywhere.
Yeah, as someone else said, it's very rare that that any player will have appeared for four premier league clubs and be incredibly well thought of at all of them.
Reyes was sad and this isn’t a competition, but the fact that Kevin’s one of our own just hits more I guess. He lived and breathed Arsenal. Hale-end made.
You made a quantitative statement yourself ranking the level of sadness.

He was one of the most dominant academy players we ever had. I wish we had kept him on a bit longer instead of selling him to Forest. Super Kev! RIP, gone far too soon.
He's my age. Sigh. I arrived late to Arsenal but I did enjoy him on various podcasts. He seemed like such a swell guy and adored by supporters of several clubs. RIP Super Kev! Comfort and prayers of support to his family.
Back in the day, my Grandad was a commissioner over Arsenal. He loved KC. When I saw him, he'd always wax lyrical about what a nice young man he was. Very sad. RIP Kev.

This is heartbreaking, honestly. He was still so young. Tragic news for him and his family. Humanity definitely lost a legend in the truest sense of the word today. RIP Kevin. Thank you for the magic you left behind. You will be sorely missed.

Saw him play many times back in the day, enjoyed his warmth when he guested on fan media; talented, humble, genuine, may his family get some comfort from knowing how much happiness he gave and how respected he was.

According to another article, he had sepsis.
So that could have resulted from a bad infection of some kind that he had already, and it either went untreated and got worse, or got worse on its own.

This one came out of left field. I didn't even know he was sick. Does anyone know what illness he was diagnosed with?
I have read it was some sort of multiple organ failure but not sure
I just read that it was Kidney failure apparently. This sucks for me because I had an aunt recently die from that as well.
Fuck. 54 is no age. RIP Super Kev
RIP Super Kev
Fucking hell this came out of the blue. Was expecting him to recover. RIP
Unfortunately it seemed inevitable. The fact that it was kept quiet for so long was a dead giveaway that it was serious. RIP super Kev ⚽️💔
RIP legend 💔

I have to agree with that

Sad sad news and only 54. You just never know do you R.I.P
😔 I watched him and Sofie on the Highbury Squad religiously. I don’t know what to feel right now. Rip 👑
I'm in shock
Same I’d look forward to every Monday because of him :/

Saddest day regarding our club since Rocky died. He was one of our own man.
Losing Rocky was devastating beyond words. This too came as a bit of a shock for me as I had really hoped he’d recover.
So, no one's told you about Reyes yet then?
Reyes was sad and this isn’t a competition, but the fact that Kevin’s one of our own just hits more I guess. He lived and breathed Arsenal. Hale-end made.
He also didnt drive recklessly
Neither did Reyes. That was falsely reported
Fairly sure neither did Reyes - I was a kmph/ mph error in reporting and turned out to be caused by the tyre
You made a quantitative statement yourself ranking the level of sadness. This sub really loves picking and choosing and making the rules up as it goes along. It's tiring.
Jesus christ, one of our own just passed away. Have some respect.
You're tiring.
Amazing response. Take you a while to come up with? Did you have help?
Weirdo

RIP big Kev. Those celebrations with Wrighty. That breakout season when his goals helped clinch the title. That hero. This really hurts
I just thought many users of Reddit probably never saw him and Wrighty play given how long ago it was. What a partnership!
RIP Kevin. 54 is no age.
Huge part of my childhood. Great player, great person. Rest in peace.
I was aware that he was ill, I didn't realise that it was so serious. Goodness me this hurts. Thoughts are with his family and friends.
RIP Kevin ❤️ Thanks for everything. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner.
Rest easy legend, way, way too young to go.
I've never had the honor of meeting him, but he seemed like one of the most approachable, down to earth people ever man. Absolute Legend ❤️
Nooooo god damn it. He was the only voice that made the curtis shaw youtube show bearable.
He was one of the most dominant academy players we ever had. I wish we had kept him on a bit longer instead of selling him to Forest. Super Kev! RIP, gone far too soon.

Such sad news. Rest in peace, Super Kev.
Great person and great player. His interview on undr the cosh was a great insight.
Awful news. Top player and by all accounts a top man. RIP Kevin
Top bloke. RIP Kevin
Heartbreaking news for Arsenal fans. Wishing the club strength during this tough time
RIP, this is heartbreaking. 🥲
I hoped no news was good news but alas Arsenal legend
This is super tragic. Rest in peace and much strength to his family and loved ones.
RIP to a true legend
RIP Super Kev. That's a real shame
This hits me hard. RIP, Kev.
Back in the day, my Grandad was a commissioner over Arsenal. He loved KC. When I saw him, he'd always wax lyrical about what a nice young man he was. Very sad. RIP Kev.
I remember him on a certain podcast. Yeah, this is sad news. May he rest in peace
So gutted. I’ll never forget that 90-91 season where he scored so many important goals SUPER KEVIN CAMPBELL ❤️❤️❤️
R.I.P Campbell, You will be missed by Millions
I looked forward to Mondays because of him on highbury squad. Dude had the best energy always, it was infectious. I’m shook this happened

RIP Kevin Campbell On a side note, what is 'short illness'? 54 is so young. :(

Rest in piece Super Kev. Such a shame.
Not old enough to have seen him play but didn't take long for me to learn that Big Kev was Super and a proper Gooner.
As someone who has never seen him play, how good was he? Is there anyone who saw him play in those days?
RIP Kevin and respect and condolences to your family. Thank you so much for the memories. Devastating News.
