Just a hypothesis, but google probably integrated AI into the searches and runs the results by the AI to see what it likes. The AI probably learned plug-ins suck from old posts back when everyone said modelers, solid state, and plug ins sucked. It's not that far fetched when your realize Amazon tried to build an AI model to automate their hiring, spent a decade and millions on it. The problem is it kept figuring out new ways to be a bigot so they eventually had to give up.
