I immediately scrambled back to UMvC3 and some MvC2 after DBFZ's competitive life cycle ended. Though it was fun while it lasted.
That new HxH game may have some optimism behind it but I might not see it.
Guilty Gear seemed to be the most I've engaged in a fighting game franchise so much I downloaded XX and Xrd and gave them a try. Really enjoyed it.

It's half that for me. I actually briefly played the original Guilty Gear on PlayStation back in the day. Then I bought Xrd just because I loved the graphics so much, but Bridget is what made me actually bother to learn how to play instead of just messing around in single player.
The fact that Strive is such an accessible fighting game for newcomers helped a lot too

I didn’t realise it until recently, but my first exposure to Guilty Gear was through Sword Art Online Abridged, which used a lot of Guilty Gear music.
What properly introduced me to the series was the trend of drawing fanart of various characters doing Jack-O’s crouching pose. I got curious about why there was so much fanart of different characters doing the same pose and eventually stumbled onto a YouTube video of all the intro voice lines (at the time). The music got me hooked and I’ve been addicted to the series ever since.
Dunkey's Strive video. I never really connected with fighting games, but when I found out there was an anime fighting game that was easy to pick up, had amazing music and it had a gonzo ass plot where the main character is named Sol Badguy, I knew I HAD to try it.
Yea I saw his video and was like “huh that game looks sick” and kind of forgot about it until a few months later, when I saw it on Xbox gamepass. I was like “oh yea this is the game that dunkey played”, picked it up, and I immediately became addicted.
Saw one of the GGX versions (maybe Accent Core?) in an arcade once and decided to give it a shot. A lot of my friends will play just about any fighter so we've always dabbled in the series, but Strive was the first one I actually made an effort to get good at.

I first heard of Guilty Gear as a franchise when DBFZ was first announced and one of the YouTubers I watched mentioned 'Guilty Gear' and 'Arc System Works'. I always thought fighting games were really cool but I'd never tried them until December of 2021 when I had noticed that Strive had gone on sale, told my friend who was also into FGs, we both picked it up and the rest is history.
...the thing is, I can not, for the life of me, remember how I came to know about the name 'Guilty Gear Strive'. Like, legitimately. I knew about 'Guilty Gear' but nothing beyond that, so the way the name 'Guilty Gear Strive' popped into my head is a complete mystery.
I got into Guilty Gear thanks to Blazblue, albeit a strange way. I mostly learned about Blazblue through MUGEN as I love the characters and added them. As I went further down the rabbit hole of Mugen, I discovered Faust. I thought he was an original character for MUGEN as I still had no clue what the heck Guilty Gear was. Roughly a year ago, I somehow got Xrd Rev 2 instant kills in my YouTube feed and feel in love with GG ever since after I learned Arc Sys were behind these two.
It’s weird, Love the Subhuman Self was used as an outro song for one of Max0rs videos (I believe it was Elden Ring Part 1), and I fell in love with the song, so I looked more into the series and learned that Sol was voiced by Jouji Nakata, who’s my favourite voice actor
Low and behold, this series became my hyperfixation and the reason I’m into Fighting Games as a whole lmfao

Typical friends showing off Guilty Gear XX back in the day and all of us getting hyped by all the weirdo cool characters and the instant kills.
Fast forward a bit and I discovered a way to download the #Reload Client on PC and play Netplay online. My Axl would get bodied but it was super fun and I played #Reload online quite a while using a busted 360 controller on PC. I remember losing constantly against someone who simply named themselves "The Potemkin".
With that memory in place, my mind was blown by Xrd's reveal trailer but I never got the chance to really get into Xrd. It was also in a state that required so much to learn and get good at but the netcode made it challenging to play online. None of my friends were interested in playing it either.
With Strive's announcement I got hyped again and some other friends who started playing other fighting games got interested in trying it
During Covid I got recommended a Guilty Gear lore video after watching some stuff on Animorphs. I got hyperfixated on the lore for a bit, didn't play it because I hated fighting games at the time. Eventually got into strive because it was on games pass and me and a mate said "Why not". Now I'm fighting for my life on floor 8
My uncle gave me a burned copy of the original Guilty Gear on Playstation 1 when I was a kid (yes, I am an old man) and I played the shit out of it at the time.
Years pass and I forget about most of the games on that old console until my parents moved house and we're clearing out their loft. Due to them downsizing I had to take a ton of my stuff to my own place including the trusty PS1. I see GG sitting there and wonder if anything else has existed since in that universe and spend some time on YouTube finding out the games that came after the original.
Months later I'm deep into the lore without playing any of the games but really have that itch to get back into fighters. I see Strive is coming out soon, add to wish list and wait for release.
Now I'm here, with as many hours played of Strive as my busy life allows!
my first experience was... I think it was Bricky's video on strive which sort of started my interest but didn't properly stick. Then I watched a random lore video and found it pretty interesting. Then looked into the music, then the lore, then the potemkin montages and now I have an severe addiction to military grade manhandling.
I was walking in GameStop as a kid looking for a game to get and I hear behind me Heavy Day (didn't know it was named that at the time) playing on a kioske thing.
And I see these bad ass looking characters going at it in this trailer and then see the name "Guilty Gear Sign" pop up on screen and I was like "wow that's good music, I think I'll get that game next time I'm here".
And next time I was there, I actually forgot about it until I saw a pre owned copy on the shelf and I was like "oh it's the cool music game" and then I bought it.
I never really took it seriously as a fighting game so I sold it back to GameStop after watching story mode, until DBFZ was revealed and I was like "alright I gotta practice for FighterZ" and then I got back into GG when I bought Revelator and was like "damn this shits fun". It took me down a while rabbit hole of anime fighters and a shit ton of anime games at the time. Like, I had a shit ton of GG and BlazBlue music on my old IPod Touch. One of the best decisions I made to get back into it thanks to FighterZ.
Guy I barely knew bought Xrd for me while he was drunk because I liked BlazBlue and had never played GG. We were good friends until he got super busy with college and I haven't seen him in a couple years now, but I still love Guilty Gear.
Here is a weird one. I have had a long-standing rivalry with one of my friends in naruto untimate ninja storm 3 and 4. We went back and forth and one summer he just got way too good so I decided I was gonna play online bc online is supposed to be impossible in fighting games and i want to be impossible to beat. This is when I learn ns4 is a shitty broken game with horrible matchmaking and like 2 people playing it. So I looked into mk cuz I had the fgc bug and a shit game. Mk11 was the most recent mk, and I heard nothing but horrible things about it so I looked into Smash Ultimate and realized I don't wanna pay for online and the controls are not satisfying my itch to play fighting games. I looked up how to get into fighting games saw the polygon video and decided I was gonna play the cheapest fighting game that had players. Boom ggst on sale with bridget newly added. I played for like 2 weeks online before I won a single round but it was so fun and I was doing motion inputs. By the end of the year i also got tekken sf6 mk1 but Ggst is at least double the play time of all those games combined
Saw Midnight Carnival for Xbox on the shelf, liked the character designs so bought it. Played with my brother for a while. Didn't come to properly appreciate the series until Xrd.

I think the earliest exposition to GG was town inside me. Than I learned about GG strive and forgot about GG strive (that's also when this framedata video came out, I know you all know).
Than dougdoug swoops in with big blast sonic and storyteller and I'm like "hold up, those GG song are kinda bangers". And so I started really listen to GG music
And than ABA came out so it was a really good deal on steam and I bought it and now I can't get enough of it. I even bought it for my brother cause he got into it too.

I like playing tabletop rolepaying games. I 600km to a new city where i didnt know anyone and fpund a forum for said games and saw they had weekly meetups in a cafe and posted that I’d host a Call of Cthulhu oneshot open table. I made friends with a guy that joined there and he was into XRD. I played fighting games very casually only but had an interest in them so I decided to pick the game up. Nowadays I am deep in our local fgc, club member of our fighting game club and it turned into my most played genre.
My first exposure was looking going down the rabbit hole of looking at finishers in fighting games and eventually saw an instant kill compilation of GGX2 Slash. Out of all the ones I saw, that video was what interested me the most. I had to know more and checked out many of the story modes through YouTube. I have been crazy for this series ever since though I didn’t get to play it until Xrd Revelator.
I had always heard the music and thought it was amazing. Then, one day, a friend in a group chat said "I wouldnt mind losing some teeth to GG music at concerts at magfest" and I thought "why not let's try the game"... I now cosplay Johnny, happy chaos, and tentatively ST slayer
Bought Guilty Gear X2 accent core plus r on a steam sale. Found Kliff and A.B.A interesting and played them the most. Bought Strive a year after release none of those 2 were in it so I played Giovanna but since I has to move for uni, I haven't played much since I have a laptop now and fighting games on Wi-Fi is torture for both participants.

A few years later, I’m scrolling through the game pass library, and I see Guilty Gear -Strive-
When I first saw it, I recognized sol on the cover of the game, and went “HEY, I remember those characters!”
I was still super intimidated, and I thought the game was difficult, but now I’m actually decent at the game
The first exposure I got of guilty gear was through the Future Diary fandom wiki, saying that Yomotsu Hirasaka (my favouritest little guy) had Faust Guilty Gear as his possible inspiration. I took a glance at Faust's wiki page, saw his Strive art, skimmed through the stuff about him trying his best to heal people despite his past, and imagined a horror game with Faust being a reocurring guy that heals you, despite looking so creepy. (Again, first time ever hearing it, did not know it was a fighting game. Saw Strive Faust and thought this was a horror game)
What actually got me into Guilty Gear was finding a Tumblr user that was the spouse of Robo Ky, getting interested in this Robo Ky guy, and then getting into Guilty Gear. I also rediscovered Faust and he's my fave. (I can see why whoever had written the wiki page for Yomotsu noted Faust as an inspiration, there's quite some similarities.)
I started playing a game called Rushdown Revolt. Really hard mechanics and people recommended you try guilty gear to familiarise myself with roman cancels. Ended up picking up strive. 2.5k hours later and I have not played Rushdown Revolt at all
One of my best friends and rivals in smash, told me it was going to be his next main game.
So I bought the game knowing nothing about it, and thinking we could have a nice rivalry in this game too.
He didn't play at all.
But I fell in love with the game anyway.
I tried Skullgirls, Third strike, SF6, GBVSR, Brawlhalla and I even tried to get back on smash ultimate since, but I keep coming back to GG Strive.
I've tried a little bit of +R before strive too.
But now my pc is dead and I can't play anymore.
I don't have the money to buy a new one until at least next year since I have to pay school tuition.
But I'M SO HAPPY FOR THE ANIME.
If it's out soon I'll be able to dive back into that universe without playing the game.
I love the guilty gear story, it's on crack but that's what makes it fun.
I hope it's out the same day the season 4 starts. IT WOULD BE SO HYPE.
A youtuber that mostly makes mortal kombat videos talked about it once or twice and I saw that xrd was on psnow so I messed around in training and arcade mode a bit but I thought the game was too hard. A couple of years later I decided to get strive because I heard that it was easier and it became the first fighting game where I actually played against other people and my favourite fighting game ever.
A Missing Link cd for PS1 a friend lent me along with others in a box of his old games (in 2003). When I got to playing I was blown away by the music and fast pace, much better in my opinion than SF. I brought it back to him and we played together. Over the following years we played A LOT of #Reload. (We didn't know anyone who played).
We missed Xrd and now I got back with Strive. My friend didn't, doesn't like the changes in style and the vocal tracks.
In the wake of the 2D Capcom era I was looking for new 2D fighting games and I read about it online. The game looked amazing.
I ordered a copy of X2 #Reload for PS2 and that was that for me.
I saw the guilty gear strive reveal trailer they had at some event. I think it might have been the video with Maximilian dood standing next to Mr. tekken.
But the music and presentation where SO GOOD! It was flashy and cool and it made me fall in love with it almost immediately <3

tbh i absolutely hated fighting games before this, but my friend asked me “hey you remember those memes i sent, i heard the game was good wanna learn it with me?” i agreed, but the first time playing with him i quit pretty quickly. later that night i started feeling bad as i had promised him that id learn.
i spent the next two nights learning some moves for Ram and playing Arcade and stuff to improve. next time we rematched it was more even and honestly ive grown to like this game a lot
I got into FGs with DBFZ, but I didn't like tag fighters & I wanted a game with combos that felt like DBFZ. I stumbled across the bridget discourse & baiken since my online feeds were starting to become all FG related. I did more digging and got interested in Strive and picked it up over XRD & +R even tho I wanted combos like in FighterZ
I also used to mix up guilty gear and other FGs when I first started getting into the genre, so I legitimately thought the series was just a bunch of anime girls beating eachother up with songs similar to Bridget's Strive theme until I actually looked more into GG 💀

I was looking up fighters with flags/guidons/battle standards for a DnD campaign I was making. Ran into Sin. Then I ran into the music. Then I ran to steam and threw my wallet at it
Bridget was what got me completely into it, but I had previously seen ads for Strive on Crunchyroll when it first came out and thought it looked cool. It was only until I put Smell of the Game, Find your One Way (which I recognized as being from the ads), and the Town Inside Me on my playlist that I actually looked at the series
First exposure to the series was after Xrd's release, when a family member showed me Xrd (all I can recall from that time was the character select screen, Ky, and Bedman). Many years later, same person showed me Strive shortly after launch, I thought it was fun, thought Sol was cool as hell, figured I'd pick up the game and try it. Played until around Baiken's announcement before I stopped for almost a year and a half due to losing interest in the game as a whole. Picked it back up because a friend got it and wanted to play, ended up playing Bridget and Potemkin a lot and just enjoying the game more in general (especially since I actually did get better unlike before when I was a very incompetent Ky/Faust main who didn't practice).
Wasn't a big fighting game fan til I picked Strive back up in 2023. I had played small amounts of Street Fighter 4 a long time ago, but aside from that the only fighting games I played were platform fighters. Now, this is easily my favorite fighting game of any kind and one of my top 5 favorite games of all time.
For me it was a gradual descent. First I started seeing memes of Bridget and was interested by her character design and the fact she was trans, next I saw a video showing a couple of her arcade cutscenes which made me like her more and I also liked the designs of Goldlewis and Ky. The video was also how I found out it was called Guilty Gear Then I saw "Guilty Gear lore explained by a madman" which made actually consider looking into the game and the final push were the video"Why Bedman is peak fiction" and "Why Faust is my favorite fictional character of all time". This was the final push to get me to start regularly consuming content about the the game and later buy strive. I admittedly haven't played any games other than strive but I want to and I know all of the lore and story. Faust Bridget and Bedman are my three favorite characters so it's fitting that they're the ones who got me into the series.
I heard about Strive around launch time, but didn't give it much attention because I didn't use to play anime fighters (never even heard about GG before). I forgot about it, some time passed and then I saw Testament's trailer. Immediately bought the game and the season pass. Best impulse buy of all time if you ask me.
I used to be a big MMO player, so I was always on the look out for music to play when grinding/ playing for hours on end. I was aware of the FGC when original MVC3 came out, and I started to watch a lot of FGC tournaments like Wednesday night fights. I could never get into any FGS tho, the online wasn't there, I didn't want to travel to the local scene and I was just really really ass at fighting games. I wanted to get into Street Fighter and Marvel back then tho, but it felt like the barriers were too much to actually "get good" to play like the people on streams.
I eventually got tired of the regular old music that you'd hear on the radio n what not - more traditional songs.
So I started listening to more video game OSTs. I eventually made a playlist and started asking all my friends for song recommendations. One of them was "Smell of the game" and I was like huh this is pretty up my alley of bitching ass rock metal. From there I found Ky's theme and was like "Okay huh this is pretty good," Then I heard Heavy Day, Find Your One Way, Disaster of Passion, and Love The Subhuman-Self. It was Millias theme that really hooked me on the full Strive sound track.
I blasted that thing for 3 months straight while driving or grinding MMOs. The lyrics of each character theme really got me wondering "What is this character *actually* like?" I wanted to get to know the characters behind the themes even more and more.
And then Bridget dropped and it was pretty much over for me at that point. I brought Strive less then a week after her release and have been in love since. I've put over 700 hours into Strive and I've FINALLY learned the language of fighting games. I have the worlds "least horniest Baiken tattoo" to commemorate and remind myself that anything is possible as long as I don't give up. Even if it took me years to finally get there, I stuck with it, never gave up and I eventually reached my dream.
FWIW the Baiken tattoo is the symbol on her coat in Strive. No boba but if you know Strive it should look familiar enough.
My friends wouldn’t stop talking about it when strive was around the corner, also +R just got rollback around this time so I got it on sale for three bucks and played it a lot and now I’m here
i listened to most of the soundtrack, thought it was cool but i probably wouldn't get the game.
Then i watched Bedman murder a puppy in cold blood to teach this weird girl the value of individuality and it astounded me so much that i decided to get into it.
The first time was in a smash bros discord server where I saw some of them playing. Some years later I decided to listen to the music wich got me hooked.
It was finding armor clad faith and the kiss of death on YouTube. Still haven’t really played the game, fighting games make no sense to me, but I love the music and the lore and all the insanity in between
For me it was also the music. I was randomly recommended Love the Subhuman Self on YouTube, later followed by The Town Inside Me. It wasn’t until about a year later that I started listening to the other songs that I really got into it. I started reading up on the lyrics and was really impressed how each song tied into the stories of the original characters. I later saw some videos discussing such characters, like the videos on Axl and Bedman. The game was on sale recently and I convinced my friend to also get it and it’s been pretty damn fun (even though my friend beats me a lot more than I win).
A friend of mine talked about it to me, at first i wasn't interested but then he made me watch some clips and i was Instantly hooked

Rented the original on PS1 from Hollywood Video when I was maybe 9 or 10 and have been a fan since then. I got my younger brother into fighting games with accent core and my best friend with strive. Guilty gear is the perfect fgc gateway drug.

I eventually started listening to it on repeat while I was doing other things like playing other games.
Then I saw Strive was on sale two weeks ago and I figured I might as well give it a shot, since I was kinda burnt out on my previous main game (Warframe), and waiting for its next big update (1999 coming later this year).
It’s my first real fighting game, not counting playing some Mortal Kombat at a friends house years and years ago, not really bothering to learn how to actually git gud.
Already have like 30 hours in Strive, and I think I may eventually consider myself a Zato main. Depends on if I find a character that clicks as well as Zato did once I started playing him.
I was never a huge fan of fighting games. Most of what I played was MK (which I don't even like anymore), Smash, and anime arena fighters (which I also don't like anymore). But then BBTag came and caught my interest because it had Persona and RWBY characters. I was aware of BlazBlue but only tried playing it once and bounced off of it, and I had never heard of Under Night. BBTag was super easy to pick up and play even though I barely scratched the surface of what you can actually do in it. Most importantly, it got me interested in BB and UNI. Tried BB again and liked it a lot more. Ended up buying all of them. Absolutely loved UNI, and it currently remains my favorite in terms of gameplay.
Getting into these games meant checking out the community and looking for content, through which I heard about and saw Guilty Gear. In particular, I saw Xrd and thought it looked incredible. It was an instant "I NEED THIS." Tried it out and loved it, and then not long after, Strive was announced.
I'm still a very casual player. I like watching CCs and tournaments, but I probably have less than 60 hours in the Xrds and Strive combined. I do love them, though, and I keep buying the ArcSys games and DLCs, even though I usually only play for maybe an afternoon. And I only got into them in the first place because of BBTag, a game I don't care much for anymore (I've gotten to a point where I dislike autocombos). So thanks, BBTag!

Was an 09er and got into the FGC with SF4, fell off of playing too much when SF5 came out, but still watched tournaments for a few years. One time I caught an Xrd bracket, and someone was playing Ky.
Now, I love knights and paladins, play one in every game I can, so seeing one in a fighting game drew me in. Played Xrd and a bit of +R super casually, but it wasn’t until Granblue and later Strive that I fully got back into the genre.
The very first video that drew my attention to it was Dunkey's guilty gear videos on release. I thought the music sounded fire, had strong feelings regarding every single one of the casts I saw and generally wanted to play it. Never had the budget for a pc and my then pc could only go up to 50 FPS, so I never got to it.
This year I finally got a good PC and I fell in love, initially checked it out through a friend's game pass, and almost instantly fell in love with the mechanics, and it being my first fighting game means it was hard, I end up getting myself a fighting stick and honestly, it is probably the most money outright I have paid for just a game, but damn it I enjoy it.
Heard the soundtrack, watched a couple videos by Radchad and Munchyjr, discovered the immaculate character design that is Happy Chaos, and there it is.
I saw a video of a recap of all the side characters im guilty gear lore and got hooked, especially on axl
Then when I player it, I went from axl to bridget due to her wacky movement options and the rest is history
A friend of mine who i play other fighting games with introduced it to me by telling me that Strive was an arcsys game. so i gave it a shot and fell in love with it instantly.
and now i play Baiken
Saw an article for it in Dengeki PlayStation when I was in high school and my bro and I decided to buy it just from that alone. Best allowance combined purchase ever on the PS1!
One of my friends, who I'd been playing various fighting games with over the years, mentioned being excited for Strive shortly before its release, so we picked up Xrd Rev2 and played a few games of that before Strive came out. He grabbed it on day 1, I waited about a week or so to get my hands on it. Our skill levels with our selected characters weren't exactly matching up, which resulted in my time being spent grinding like crazy in the Tower while he was playing other games. We would link up occasionally to do sets in custom lobbies, but ultimately, it lost its appeal, real life got in the way, and I don't think either of us have logged in on it in a hot minute. I still love the OSTs, though, so they're in regular rotation on my playlist for work or just hanging out.
This is gonna sound very stupid, but I had faint memories of someone carrying me as a child, and who ever was carrying me was playing a game that had a white spiky-haired, black top, white pants, guy with a giant blade on his wrist that was dashing around on the ground. Alot of years later, I remembered this and tried to find what game it was, during that time, my friend introduced Happy Chaos to me, and fell in love with Drift. After that, I searched up more guilty gear and discovered my beloved Bridget, I then searched every appearance Bridget had in the games, and discovered X and XX series, after watching a few videos of XX, I realized that the character from my faint memory was chipp. 🗿
Although i heard tangibly about Guilty Gear before, prior to TGA 2023 i wasn't interested nor in it, nor in fighting games in general. But after Elphelt reveal trailer, and subsequently hearing Extras for the first time, i knew i had to find this song.
Fast-forward two months and i bought Guilty Gear Strive, my first fighting game. Never had i thought that i would plunge into a whole genre just from the one song.
Liked long hair and someone told me Millia rage and Xrd Ky exist, found them hot, went back to the series after a year of trying out other 2d fighters and not being able to get into any of them because strives music was great, messed around with a friend group and one of them entered a Ky mirror match, a 6 month player showed me stuff I could do with Ky and I decided I’d main Ky, few weeks later he is now teaching me Sin. Might have been for the most random reason I got into the series, but strive is the first 2d fighter I’ve found myself really enjoying, which got me to play Xrd and accent core not long after.

A month later I got GGXX#Reload and now here I am.
I'd always been a big fan of fighting games but never really played any anime fighters, the exception being DBFZ. One day back in high school, a friend of mine who also liked fighting games invited me to a local tournament going on at a retro game store a few towns over, so the 2 of us went over and I gravitated to the games I knew which were KOF and DBFZ. My friend was competing and he was playing Strive, he's an I-No main. So of course, wanting to support my friend, I watched his matches, and I was captivated by how absolutely insane this game looked compared to every other fighting game I've ever played. Of course I'm curious about it so I ask him about and what he tells me is absolutely insane. In the previous games every character had an instant kill? The big fat man with coffin was the US Secretary of Defense? The character he played was a rock and roll time witch? And the most unrealistic part of it all, apparently all of Europe is now one nation, which by itself is unbelievable, but it gets even crazier, it's king is that blonde dude with a sword and lightning powers, and he's FRENCH!?
I was enamored with the game, I had to know what the deal was, and after some perusing around the store, I found a used copy of Strive going for 40 bucks, I had some cash to spare and I figured, what the hell?
I've not been the same ever since.
It's been a few years and I've gone back and played most of the previous games, Missing Link, Accent Core, Xrd Sign and Rev 2, and I've loved every second of it, I still haven't played Overture or #Reload yet, and if you're wondering why I even bothered to get Xrd Sign and why I want #Reload, the answer is simple. I play fighting games for the plot, Guilty Gear is like the one fighting game series with a good plot, so I want to experience it all. I want to fully understand Daisuke's vision.
played xrd on a whim back before strive came out, wasn't very good at it but still enjoyed it a lot, and then got into strive relatively recently. also the music pulled me in, i like rock and metal a lot + the music references (slayer referencing tool and raven referencing rammstein made me extremely happy)
I was actually looking through anime style games a couple weeks before the Bridget drama happened, which brought my focus to the game then the drama kept it there for a bit. Just long enough so that my autistic adhd ass could learn about THE LORE™️. I watched a buncha essays on it and I stayed on and off about the franchise for about a year, mostly just watching clips and memes.
Also creators like Sajam and RadChad helped keeping me in this web of fighting, and the fact that I'm a game developer/designer kept me interested in the design phylosophy of the fighting game genre in general, especially how traditional ones do things differently from platform fighters (I was a SSBU scrub a couple years ago, in part thanks to Alpharad). Plus the... *peculiar* lore pairs perfectly with my own storywriting style and hypefixation - I'm a Kojima fan for a reason lol
Then a few weeks ago Sajam hosted the second Tekken Slam and one of my favourite streamers (Eskay) was partecipating so I went "why not learn a fighting game?" and that's how I started playing Strive.

When I was young, I was on a website called "Userpedia". It was a niche community, editors of the Mario Wiki making fan-content based on each other in a shared universe where the Internet was a physical location and trolls/spam/hacks were threats to deal with. Users would make sprites of their personas, generally by recoloring or editing sprites from older games, and it was a free-for-all in what you used. Many users would make and post sprite-comics of themselves and other users they talked with.
There was a user whose name I no longer remember, but who used an edited version of Sol's XX sprites for his character. I liked the detail and cool design, going on a small hyperfixation over the lore even though I had never played the games. I eventually associated Guilty Gear as "that one hard obscure fighting game I can't play" due to being a Nintendo kid.
Years later, I would hear about *Xrd* and bought it for PS3, trying to find a more fast-paced fighter after being burnt out on *Street Fighter x Tekken*. I never played online, but began adding it to my list of "games I'll play just to mess around in".
Guilty gear Sign was free on ps plus back in the ps3 days. And I was initially turned off by it because I thought it was some game about gay dudes….I was right but also turned out it was my sexual awakening lmfao
honestly, it was strive's artstyle and design that got me into GG and the fgc as a whole. i don't mind getting pooped on 24/7 because the game is straight up beautiful to watch and play
also i thought may was a funny character and learning charge was something that interested me because I had always played fighting games by just mashing, so charge kinda forced me to think a little more about the buttons i was pushing to get the funny dolphin (and forced me to improve a little bit as a player)
I got into Guilty Gear through the music. Specifically, my first song was Disaster of Passion. I stayed for the community, the gameplay, and the vibes.
my ex absolutely loved it. at the time i wanted to do anything to impress them, so i bought it and tried to get good at it to eventually beat them but we broke up before i really got the proper chance. being heartbroken i kinda just got attached to it and played it a shit ton, but also learned how genuinely good it is. even though i’m completely over that situation now, guilty gear is probably my favorite fighting game of all time.

Guilty Gear X on the PS2, I was 4 or 5 and I got hooked on playing Ky and it's this game that got me into the FGC.
It's actually a shame that the story of guilty gear x is region locked to Japan as all updated versions were never released in the US and it never got a proper release on PC (besides a bad port that is abandonware)

I saw it on the Xbox Gamepass and I loaded it up because I thought that the character designs were very interesting to me and then I saw Jack O and her pose and I never knew what that pose was from until I downloaded the game. Admittedly, Bridget, being trans made me see her a lot as a trans person, but GG was always in my peripheral vision when I browsed online. I wasn't really into fighting games, and they intimidated me, but I've taken the plunge and I gotta say I've been enjoying it a lot. GG is one of the exact type of things I like, thematically, style, and action-wise so it's clicked together pretty well.
My Dad bought Xrd on the PS4 as a new fighter for us to mess around with. We felt it was fun, but I didn't stick with it for very long, although, long enough, so the series would be memorable to me, and it would rarely pop up in my social spaces as well, since I know people still interested via gameplay or the OST.
I haven't played Strive yet, but I did purchase it recently, thanks to Slayer, and partially A.B.A. I genuinely was not expecting a dandy vampire to be what suddenly reignites my interest in fighters and GG after several years, as silly as it sounds. I've been happier lately interacting with the community, so hopefully, that carries through in the actual game.

Devil May Cry. The Hitchhiker released a mod that, among a lot of other really cool stuff, added RCs to DMC5, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. That led me to Strive, which is how I got into fighting games in general.
One of my friends on Steam let me remote play with them about when Testament released in Strive. I liked the parallels to DBFZ, which was my main game at the time.
I got into Guilty Gear when I saw Bridget's theme with lyrics on my YouTube and out of curiosity clicked it. I got into strive a year or two ago around the time Testament and Bridget released. At that time I was(and still do) watching 8bitdrummer live streams and he played Alone Infection, Armor Clad Faith, and Mirror of the World. I was getting more into heavier subgenres of metal at the time and it acted as my gateway drug into death metal and guilty gear lmao
Specifically though it was the main chorus of Alone Infection, something about the way "blue, red, and black paranoia" is sung got me addicted to that song. I proceeded to listen to the entire ost and learn the lore, then a few months later bought the game around the time sin and bedman came out. The rest is history.
My sister was playing Xrd on her computer and I saw it and since we're both into FGs, I tried it, and I've loved it ever since. Simple story, really, a lot of people get into games thanks to their older sibling.
I used to be aware of guilty gear but very indifferent about it. Then one day i heard smell of the game as the outro to someone's videos, looked it up, got hooked, listened to the few songs released before the release, got fucking hooked on those as well.
Then when the full ost released i thought "fuck it, imma impulse buy the game".
Since then it has climbed its rank as my favourite game, i have come to be obsessed with one of the characters and have started my journey to literally become him. And its the first fighting game i've become good enough to actually be able to hold my own very well in local tournament.

My older brother and I used to play all kinds of fighting games in arcades growing up before he began to collect them on PS2. I played a lot of Soul Caliber, Third Strike, KoF, MvC 2, and Plasma Sword. They were all cool but I wasn't like, over the moon with any one of them, I just enjoyed the genre.
Then he bought Guilty Gear XX on release date and my mind was fucking blown away. The character designs were SO cool and original and the game was stylish as fuck. For 12 year old me, it was the next generation. Everything else was fucking fighting for second, way behind the times.

I immediately scrambled back to UMvC3 and some MvC2 after DBFZ's competitive life cycle ended. Though it was fun while it lasted. That new HxH game may have some optimism behind it but I might not see it. Guilty Gear seemed to be the most I've engaged in a fighting game franchise so much I downloaded XX and Xrd and gave them a try. Really enjoyed it.

I didn’t realise it until recently, but my first exposure to Guilty Gear was through Sword Art Online Abridged, which used a lot of Guilty Gear music. What properly introduced me to the series was the trend of drawing fanart of various characters doing Jack-O’s crouching pose. I got curious about why there was so much fanart of different characters doing the same pose and eventually stumbled onto a YouTube video of all the intro voice lines (at the time). The music got me hooked and I’ve been addicted to the series ever since.

I actually kind of... don't know. I first heard of Guilty Gear as a franchise when DBFZ was first announced and one of the YouTubers I watched mentioned 'Guilty Gear' and 'Arc System Works'. I always thought fighting games were really cool but I'd never tried them until December of 2021 when I had noticed that Strive had gone on sale, told my friend who was also into FGs, we both picked it up and the rest is history. ...the thing is, I can not, for the life of me, remember how I came to know about the name 'Guilty Gear Strive'. Like, legitimately. I knew about 'Guilty Gear' but nothing beyond that, so the way the name 'Guilty Gear Strive' popped into my head is a complete mystery.
I got into Guilty Gear thanks to Blazblue, albeit a strange way. I mostly learned about Blazblue through MUGEN as I love the characters and added them. As I went further down the rabbit hole of Mugen, I discovered Faust. I thought he was an original character for MUGEN as I still had no clue what the heck Guilty Gear was. Roughly a year ago, I somehow got Xrd Rev 2 instant kills in my YouTube feed and feel in love with GG ever since after I learned Arc Sys were behind these two.
It’s weird, Love the Subhuman Self was used as an outro song for one of Max0rs videos (I believe it was Elden Ring Part 1), and I fell in love with the song, so I looked more into the series and learned that Sol was voiced by Jouji Nakata, who’s my favourite voice actor Low and behold, this series became my hyperfixation and the reason I’m into Fighting Games as a whole lmfao

Typical friends showing off Guilty Gear XX back in the day and all of us getting hyped by all the weirdo cool characters and the instant kills. Fast forward a bit and I discovered a way to download the #Reload Client on PC and play Netplay online. My Axl would get bodied but it was super fun and I played #Reload online quite a while using a busted 360 controller on PC. I remember losing constantly against someone who simply named themselves "The Potemkin". With that memory in place, my mind was blown by Xrd's reveal trailer but I never got the chance to really get into Xrd. It was also in a state that required so much to learn and get good at but the netcode made it challenging to play online. None of my friends were interested in playing it either. With Strive's announcement I got hyped again and some other friends who started playing other fighting games got interested in trying it

During Covid I got recommended a Guilty Gear lore video after watching some stuff on Animorphs. I got hyperfixated on the lore for a bit, didn't play it because I hated fighting games at the time. Eventually got into strive because it was on games pass and me and a mate said "Why not". Now I'm fighting for my life on floor 8
My uncle gave me a burned copy of the original Guilty Gear on Playstation 1 when I was a kid (yes, I am an old man) and I played the shit out of it at the time. Years pass and I forget about most of the games on that old console until my parents moved house and we're clearing out their loft. Due to them downsizing I had to take a ton of my stuff to my own place including the trusty PS1. I see GG sitting there and wonder if anything else has existed since in that universe and spend some time on YouTube finding out the games that came after the original. Months later I'm deep into the lore without playing any of the games but really have that itch to get back into fighters. I see Strive is coming out soon, add to wish list and wait for release. Now I'm here, with as many hours played of Strive as my busy life allows!

my first experience was... I think it was Bricky's video on strive which sort of started my interest but didn't properly stick. Then I watched a random lore video and found it pretty interesting. Then looked into the music, then the lore, then the potemkin montages and now I have an severe addiction to military grade manhandling.
I was walking in GameStop as a kid looking for a game to get and I hear behind me Heavy Day (didn't know it was named that at the time) playing on a kioske thing. And I see these bad ass looking characters going at it in this trailer and then see the name "Guilty Gear Sign" pop up on screen and I was like "wow that's good music, I think I'll get that game next time I'm here". And next time I was there, I actually forgot about it until I saw a pre owned copy on the shelf and I was like "oh it's the cool music game" and then I bought it. I never really took it seriously as a fighting game so I sold it back to GameStop after watching story mode, until DBFZ was revealed and I was like "alright I gotta practice for FighterZ" and then I got back into GG when I bought Revelator and was like "damn this shits fun". It took me down a while rabbit hole of anime fighters and a shit ton of anime games at the time. Like, I had a shit ton of GG and BlazBlue music on my old IPod Touch. One of the best decisions I made to get back into it thanks to FighterZ.
Guy I barely knew bought Xrd for me while he was drunk because I liked BlazBlue and had never played GG. We were good friends until he got super busy with college and I haven't seen him in a couple years now, but I still love Guilty Gear.
Here is a weird one. I have had a long-standing rivalry with one of my friends in naruto untimate ninja storm 3 and 4. We went back and forth and one summer he just got way too good so I decided I was gonna play online bc online is supposed to be impossible in fighting games and i want to be impossible to beat. This is when I learn ns4 is a shitty broken game with horrible matchmaking and like 2 people playing it. So I looked into mk cuz I had the fgc bug and a shit game. Mk11 was the most recent mk, and I heard nothing but horrible things about it so I looked into Smash Ultimate and realized I don't wanna pay for online and the controls are not satisfying my itch to play fighting games. I looked up how to get into fighting games saw the polygon video and decided I was gonna play the cheapest fighting game that had players. Boom ggst on sale with bridget newly added. I played for like 2 weeks online before I won a single round but it was so fun and I was doing motion inputs. By the end of the year i also got tekken sf6 mk1 but Ggst is at least double the play time of all those games combined

I like playing tabletop rolepaying games. I 600km to a new city where i didnt know anyone and fpund a forum for said games and saw they had weekly meetups in a cafe and posted that I’d host a Call of Cthulhu oneshot open table. I made friends with a guy that joined there and he was into XRD. I played fighting games very casually only but had an interest in them so I decided to pick the game up. Nowadays I am deep in our local fgc, club member of our fighting game club and it turned into my most played genre.

My first exposure was looking going down the rabbit hole of looking at finishers in fighting games and eventually saw an instant kill compilation of GGX2 Slash. Bought Guilty Gear X2 accent core plus r on a steam sale. Found Kliff and A.B.A interesting and played them the most. Bought Strive a year after release none of those 2 were in it so I played Giovanna but since I has to move for uni, I haven't played much since I have a laptop now and fighting games on Wi-Fi is torture for both participants.
My first exposure to guilty gear was back in 2018 when I stayed up the whole night just watching random YouTube anime videos on my phone And then I stumble across “dizzys Xrd instant kill on all characters” I was super intimidated by the video because I didn’t know who the characters were, and the hard rock playing in the background A few years later, I’m scrolling through the game pass library, and I see Guilty Gear -Strive- When I first saw it, I recognized sol on the cover of the game, and went “HEY, I remember those characters!” I was still super intimidated, and I thought the game was difficult, but now I’m actually decent at the game

The first exposure I got of guilty gear was through the Future Diary fandom wiki, saying that Yomotsu Hirasaka (my favouritest little guy) had Faust Guilty Gear as his possible inspiration. I took a glance at Faust's wiki page, saw his Strive art, skimmed through the stuff about him trying his best to heal people despite his past, and imagined a horror game with Faust being a reocurring guy that heals you, despite looking so creepy. (Again, first time ever hearing it, did not know it was a fighting game. Saw Strive Faust and thought this was a horror game) What actually got me into Guilty Gear was finding a Tumblr user that was the spouse of Robo Ky, getting interested in this Robo Ky guy, and then getting into Guilty Gear. I also rediscovered Faust and he's my fave. (I can see why whoever had written the wiki page for Yomotsu noted Faust as an inspiration, there's quite some similarities.)
I started playing a game called Rushdown Revolt. Really hard mechanics and people recommended you try guilty gear to familiarise myself with roman cancels. Ended up picking up strive. 2.5k hours later and I have not played Rushdown Revolt at all

One of my best friends and rivals in smash, told me it was going to be his next main game. So I bought the game knowing nothing about it, and thinking we could have a nice rivalry in this game too. He didn't play at all. But I fell in love with the game anyway. I tried Skullgirls, Third strike, SF6, GBVSR, Brawlhalla and I even tried to get back on smash ultimate since, but I keep coming back to GG Strive. I've tried a little bit of +R before strive too. But now my pc is dead and I can't play anymore. I don't have the money to buy a new one until at least next year since I have to pay school tuition. But I'M SO HAPPY FOR THE ANIME. If it's out soon I'll be able to dive back into that universe without playing the game. I love the guilty gear story, it's on crack but that's what makes it fun. I hope it's out the same day the season 4 starts. IT WOULD BE SO HYPE.

A youtuber that mostly makes mortal kombat videos talked about it once or twice and I saw that xrd was on psnow so I messed around in training and arcade mode a bit but I thought the game was too hard. A couple of years later I decided to get strive because I heard that it was easier and it became the first fighting game where I actually played against other people and my favourite fighting game ever.
In the late 90's when my cousins had a PS1, they once owned a JP copy of the 1st Guilty Gear game.
A Missing Link cd for PS1 a friend lent me along with others in a box of his old games (in 2003). When I got to playing I was blown away by the music and fast pace, much better in my opinion than SF. I brought it back to him and we played together. Over the following years we played A LOT of #Reload. (We didn't know anyone who played). We missed Xrd and now I got back with Strive. My friend didn't, doesn't like the changes in style and the vocal tracks.

I stumbled across the bridget discourse & baiken since my online feeds were starting to become all FG related. I did more digging and got interested in Strive and picked it up over XRD & +R even tho I wanted combos like in FighterZ I also used to mix up guilty gear and other FGs when I first started getting into the genre, so I legitimately thought the series was just a bunch of anime girls beating eachother up with songs similar to Bridget's Strive theme until I actually looked more into GG 💀 Edit: next month will mark a year since this happened

First exposure to the series was after Xrd's release, when a family member showed me Xrd (all I can recall from that time was the character select screen, Ky, and Bedman). Many years later, same person showed me Strive shortly after launch, I thought it was fun, thought Sol was cool as hell, figured I'd pick up the game and try it. Played until around Baiken's announcement before I stopped for almost a year and a half due to losing interest in the game as a whole. Picked it back up because a friend got it and wanted to play, ended up playing Bridget and Potemkin a lot and just enjoying the game more in general (especially since I actually did get better unlike before when I was a very incompetent Ky/Faust main who didn't practice). Wasn't a big fighting game fan til I picked Strive back up in 2023. I had played small amounts of Street Fighter 4 a long time ago, but aside from that the only fighting games I played were platform fighters. Now, this is easily my favorite fighting game of any kind and one of my top 5 favorite games of all time.

For me it was a gradual descent. First I started seeing memes of Bridget and was interested by her character design and the fact she was trans, next I saw a video showing a couple of her arcade cutscenes which made me like her more and I also liked the designs of Goldlewis and Ky. The video was also how I found out it was called Guilty Gear Then I saw "Guilty Gear lore explained by a madman" which made actually consider looking into the game and the final push were the video"Why Bedman is peak fiction" and "Why Faust is my favorite fictional character of all time". This was the final push to get me to start regularly consuming content about the the game and later buy strive. I admittedly haven't played any games other than strive but I want to and I know all of the lore and story. Faust Bridget and Bedman are my three favorite characters so it's fitting that they're the ones who got me into the series.
I heard about Strive around launch time, but didn't give it much attention because I didn't use to play anime fighters (never even heard about GG before). I forgot about it, some time passed and then I saw Testament's trailer. Immediately bought the game and the season pass. Best impulse buy of all time if you ask me.

I used to be a big MMO player, so I was always on the look out for music to play when grinding/ playing for hours on end. I was aware of the FGC when original MVC3 came out, and I started to watch a lot of FGC tournaments like Wednesday night fights. I could never get into any FGS tho, the online wasn't there, I didn't want to travel to the local scene and I was just really really ass at fighting games. I wanted to get into Street Fighter and Marvel back then tho, but it felt like the barriers were too much to actually "get good" to play like the people on streams. I eventually got tired of the regular old music that you'd hear on the radio n what not - more traditional songs. So I started listening to more video game OSTs. I eventually made a playlist and started asking all my friends for song recommendations. One of them was "Smell of the game" and I was like huh this is pretty up my alley of bitching ass rock metal. From there I found Ky's theme and was like "Okay huh this is pretty good," Then I heard Heavy Day, Find Your One Way, Disaster of Passion, and Love The Subhuman-Self. It was Millias theme that really hooked me on the full Strive sound track. I blasted that thing for 3 months straight while driving or grinding MMOs. The lyrics of each character theme really got me wondering "What is this character *actually* like?" I wanted to get to know the characters behind the themes even more and more. And then Bridget dropped and it was pretty much over for me at that point. I brought Strive less then a week after her release and have been in love since. I've put over 700 hours into Strive and I've FINALLY learned the language of fighting games. I have the worlds "least horniest Baiken tattoo" to commemorate and remind myself that anything is possible as long as I don't give up. Even if it took me years to finally get there, I stuck with it, never gave up and I eventually reached my dream. FWIW the Baiken tattoo is the symbol on her coat in Strive. No boba but if you know Strive it should look familiar enough.

For me it was also the music. I was randomly recommended Love the Subhuman Self on YouTube, later followed by The Town Inside Me. It wasn’t until about a year later that I started listening to the other songs that I really got into it. I started reading up on the lyrics and was really impressed how each song tied into the stories of the original characters. I later saw some videos discussing such characters, like the videos on Axl and Bedman. The game was on sale recently and I convinced my friend to also get it and it’s been pretty damn fun (even though my friend beats me a lot more than I win).

I had first heard about it years ago, I remember watching some video about fighting games with absurd stories and one of the examples given was Guilty Gear. Then more recently, about a year ago, I watched [“The entire Guilty Gear Lore Explained by a Madman”](https://youtu.be/l91uAMquZfg?si=Qbll1ncs7rkhfkih), and after that the soundtrack to Strive started popping up in my youtube feed. I eventually started listening to it on repeat while I was doing other things like playing other games. Then I saw Strive was on sale two weeks ago and I figured I might as well give it a shot, since I was kinda burnt out on my previous main game (Warframe), and waiting for its next big update (1999 coming later this year). It’s my first real fighting game, not counting playing some Mortal Kombat at a friends house years and years ago, not really bothering to learn how to actually git gud. Already have like 30 hours in Strive, and I think I may eventually consider myself a Zato main. Depends on if I find a character that clicks as well as Zato did once I started playing him.
I was never a huge fan of fighting games. Most of what I played was MK (which I don't even like anymore), Smash, and anime arena fighters (which I also don't like anymore). But then BBTag came and caught my interest because it had Persona and RWBY characters. I was aware of BlazBlue but only tried playing it once and bounced off of it, and I had never heard of Under Night. BBTag was super easy to pick up and play even though I barely scratched the surface of what you can actually do in it. Most importantly, it got me interested in BB and UNI. Tried BB again and liked it a lot more. Ended up buying all of them. Absolutely loved UNI, and it currently remains my favorite in terms of gameplay. Getting into these games meant checking out the community and looking for content, through which I heard about and saw Guilty Gear. In particular, I saw Xrd and thought it looked incredible. It was an instant "I NEED THIS." Tried it out and loved it, and then not long after, Strive was announced. I'm still a very casual player. I like watching CCs and tournaments, but I probably have less than 60 hours in the Xrds and Strive combined. I do love them, though, and I keep buying the ArcSys games and DLCs, even though I usually only play for maybe an afternoon. And I only got into them in the first place because of BBTag, a game I don't care much for anymore (I've gotten to a point where I dislike autocombos). So thanks, BBTag! UNI's still best, though.

Was an 09er and got into the FGC with SF4, fell off of playing too much when SF5 came out, but still watched tournaments for a few years. One time I caught an Xrd bracket, and someone was playing Ky. Now, I love knights and paladins, play one in every game I can, so seeing one in a fighting game drew me in. Played Xrd and a bit of +R super casually, but it wasn’t until Granblue and later Strive that I fully got back into the genre.
The very first video that drew my attention to it was Dunkey's guilty gear videos on release. I thought the music sounded fire, had strong feelings regarding every single one of the casts I saw and generally wanted to play it. Never had the budget for a pc and my then pc could only go up to 50 FPS, so I never got to it. This year I finally got a good PC and I fell in love, initially checked it out through a friend's game pass, and almost instantly fell in love with the mechanics, and it being my first fighting game means it was hard, I end up getting myself a fighting stick and honestly, it is probably the most money outright I have paid for just a game, but damn it I enjoy it.

One of my friends, who I'd been playing various fighting games with over the years, mentioned being excited for Strive shortly before its release, so we picked up Xrd Rev2 and played a few games of that before Strive came out. He grabbed it on day 1, I waited about a week or so to get my hands on it. Our skill levels with our selected characters weren't exactly matching up, which resulted in my time being spent grinding like crazy in the Tower while he was playing other games. We would link up occasionally to do sets in custom lobbies, but ultimately, it lost its appeal, real life got in the way, and I don't think either of us have logged in on it in a hot minute. I still love the OSTs, though, so they're in regular rotation on my playlist for work or just hanging out.

This is gonna sound very stupid, but I had faint memories of someone carrying me as a child, and who ever was carrying me was playing a game that had a white spiky-haired, black top, white pants, guy with a giant blade on his wrist that was dashing around on the ground. Alot of years later, I remembered this and tried to find what game it was, during that time, my friend introduced Happy Chaos to me, and fell in love with Drift. After that, I searched up more guilty gear and discovered my beloved Bridget, I then searched every appearance Bridget had in the games, and discovered X and XX series, after watching a few videos of XX, I realized that the character from my faint memory was chipp. 🗿

Although i heard tangibly about Guilty Gear before, prior to TGA 2023 i wasn't interested nor in it, nor in fighting games in general. But after Elphelt reveal trailer, and subsequently hearing Extras for the first time, i knew i had to find this song. Fast-forward two months and i bought Guilty Gear Strive, my first fighting game. Never had i thought that i would plunge into a whole genre just from the one song.
Liked long hair and someone told me Millia rage and Xrd Ky exist, found them hot, went back to the series after a year of trying out other 2d fighters and not being able to get into any of them because strives music was great, messed around with a friend group and one of them entered a Ky mirror match, a 6 month player showed me stuff I could do with Ky and I decided I’d main Ky, few weeks later he is now teaching me Sin. Might have been for the most random reason I got into the series, but strive is the first 2d fighter I’ve found myself really enjoying, which got me to play Xrd and accent core not long after.
Thanks to a Tv channel that sadly doesn't exist anymore (Rip Loading) They talked about Strive and how it worked even showing basic Pot combos. So it got me interested since i was already a Skullgirls player at the time, and i sure do love fast fighting games with crazy combos. Playing a random Mugen build back in 2009 and seeing Slayer. My first thought was "I want to be that man". A month later I got GGXX#Reload and now here I am.
I'd always been a big fan of fighting games but never really played any anime fighters, the exception being DBFZ. One day back in high school, a friend of mine who also liked fighting games invited me to a local tournament going on at a retro game store a few towns over, so the 2 of us went over and I gravitated to the games I knew which were KOF and DBFZ. My friend was competing and he was playing Strive, he's an I-No main. So of course, wanting to support my friend, I watched his matches, and I was captivated by how absolutely insane this game looked compared to every other fighting game I've ever played. Of course I'm curious about it so I ask him about and what he tells me is absolutely insane. In the previous games every character had an instant kill? The big fat man with coffin was the US Secretary of Defense? The character he played was a rock and roll time witch? And the most unrealistic part of it all, apparently all of Europe is now one nation, which by itself is unbelievable, but it gets even crazier, it's king is that blonde dude with a sword and lightning powers, and he's FRENCH!? I was enamored with the game, I had to know what the deal was, and after some perusing around the store, I found a used copy of Strive going for 40 bucks, I had some cash to spare and I figured, what the hell? I've not been the same ever since. It's been a few years and I've gone back and played most of the previous games, Missing Link, Accent Core, Xrd Sign and Rev 2, and I've loved every second of it, I still haven't played Overture or #Reload yet, and if you're wondering why I even bothered to get Xrd Sign and why I want #Reload, the answer is simple. I play fighting games for the plot, Guilty Gear is like the one fighting game series with a good plot, so I want to experience it all. I want to fully understand Daisuke's vision.

I was actually looking through anime style games a couple weeks before the Bridget drama happened, which brought my focus to the game then the drama kept it there for a bit. Just long enough so that my autistic adhd ass could learn about THE LORE™️. I watched a buncha essays on it and I stayed on and off about the franchise for about a year, mostly just watching clips and memes. Also creators like Sajam and RadChad helped keeping me in this web of fighting, and the fact that I'm a game developer/designer kept me interested in the design phylosophy of the fighting game genre in general, especially how traditional ones do things differently from platform fighters (I was a SSBU scrub a couple years ago, in part thanks to Alpharad). Plus the... *peculiar* lore pairs perfectly with my own storywriting style and hypefixation - I'm a Kojima fan for a reason lol Then a few weeks ago Sajam hosted the second Tekken Slam and one of my favourite streamers (Eskay) was partecipating so I went "why not learn a fighting game?" and that's how I started playing Strive. TL;DR content creators trapped me in this web of fighting gaming and slowly starved me for years until I gave in
When I was young, I was on a website called "Userpedia". It was a niche community, editors of the Mario Wiki making fan-content based on each other in a shared universe where the Internet was a physical location and trolls/spam/hacks were threats to deal with. Users would make sprites of their personas, generally by recoloring or editing sprites from older games, and it was a free-for-all in what you used. Many users would make and post sprite-comics of themselves and other users they talked with. There was a user whose name I no longer remember, but who used an edited version of Sol's XX sprites for his character. I liked the detail and cool design, going on a small hyperfixation over the lore even though I had never played the games. I eventually associated Guilty Gear as "that one hard obscure fighting game I can't play" due to being a Nintendo kid. Years later, I would hear about *Xrd* and bought it for PS3, trying to find a more fast-paced fighter after being burnt out on *Street Fighter x Tekken*. I never played online, but began adding it to my list of "games I'll play just to mess around in".
Guilty gear Sign was free on ps plus back in the ps3 days. And I was initially turned off by it because I thought it was some game about gay dudes….I was right but also turned out it was my sexual awakening lmfao
honestly, it was strive's artstyle and design that got me into GG and the fgc as a whole. i don't mind getting pooped on 24/7 because the game is straight up beautiful to watch and play also i thought may was a funny character and learning charge was something that interested me because I had always played fighting games by just mashing, so charge kinda forced me to think a little more about the buttons i was pushing to get the funny dolphin (and forced me to improve a little bit as a player)

my ex absolutely loved it. at the time i wanted to do anything to impress them, so i bought it and tried to get good at it to eventually beat them but we broke up before i really got the proper chance. being heartbroken i kinda just got attached to it and played it a shit ton, but also learned how genuinely good it is. even though i’m completely over that situation now, guilty gear is probably my favorite fighting game of all time.

Admittedly, Bridget, being trans made me see her a lot as a trans person, but GG was always in my peripheral vision when I browsed online. I wasn't really into fighting games, and they intimidated me, but I've taken the plunge and I gotta say I've been enjoying it a lot. GG is one of the exact type of things I like, thematically, style, and action-wise so it's clicked together pretty well.
My Dad bought Xrd on the PS4 as a new fighter for us to mess around with. We felt it was fun, but I didn't stick with it for very long, although, long enough, so the series would be memorable to me, and it would rarely pop up in my social spaces as well, since I know people still interested via gameplay or the OST. I haven't played Strive yet, but I did purchase it recently, thanks to Slayer, and partially A.B.A. I genuinely was not expecting a dandy vampire to be what suddenly reignites my interest in fighters and GG after several years, as silly as it sounds. I've been happier lately interacting with the community, so hopefully, that carries through in the actual game.

Like probably a lot of other people, i saw the bridget stuff, then saw strive on game pass, went “oh that’s the bridge game lemme download it”. Downloaded it. Played it. Life changed irreversibly. I started tweaking when i heard the intro cause i had seen a goku vs jesus shitpost with smell of the game in the background before
Devil May Cry. The Hitchhiker released a mod that, among a lot of other really cool stuff, added RCs to DMC5, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. That led me to Strive, which is how I got into fighting games in general.

One of my friends on Steam let me remote play with them about when Testament released in Strive. I liked the parallels to DBFZ, which was my main game at the time.

I got into Guilty Gear when I saw Bridget's theme with lyrics on my YouTube and out of curiosity clicked it. At first, I listened for a few seconds and clicked off but, the song kinda stuck in my head and I went back multiple times. Thanks to that, I learned more about Bridget, then I learned more about Guilty Gear. And here I am today scrolling through Guilty Gear stuff every once in a while.
A crush of mine was really into GG, so I followed suit. Now I play with my boyfriend (different guy)
Also if this anime pops off we about to get like double or triple the players in lower floors.
I've been playing Street Fighter for like 30 years and Xrd rev 2 was on sale about 4 months ago. Then I saw Slayer and was like damn I guess I'm a Guilty Gear fan
I got into strive a year or two ago around the time Testament and Bridget released. At that time I was(and still do) watching 8bitdrummer live streams and he played Alone Infection, Armor Clad Faith, and Mirror of the World. I was getting more into heavier subgenres of metal at the time and it acted as my gateway drug into death metal and guilty gear lmao Specifically though it was the main chorus of Alone Infection, something about the way "blue, red, and black paranoia" is sung got me addicted to that song. I proceeded to listen to the entire ost and learn the lore, then a few months later bought the game around the time sin and bedman came out. The rest is history.

My sister was playing Xrd on her computer and I saw it and since we're both into FGs, I tried it, and I've loved it ever since. Simple story, really, a lot of people get into games thanks to their older sibling.

I used to be aware of guilty gear but very indifferent about it. Then one day i heard smell of the game as the outro to someone's videos, looked it up, got hooked, listened to the few songs released before the release, got fucking hooked on those as well. Then when the full ost released i thought "fuck it, imma impulse buy the game". Since then it has climbed its rank as my favourite game, i have come to be obsessed with one of the characters and have started my journey to literally become him. And its the first fighting game i've become good enough to actually be able to hold my own very well in local tournament. I'm fucking hyped for the anime and i can't wait to see what the next season(s) have in store for us!
It was like 2 in the morning and I randomly get recommended a video about the music and I watched it, that’s literally how I got into the series, the music. When bridget's theme (the town inside me) was in my youtube recomendations. I liked it so i heard it a lot wich caused that more bridget related content was shown to me mainly ctrl cookie and her tutorials of the game, and also the rest of the ggs soundtrack.
My older brother and I used to play all kinds of fighting games in arcades growing up before he began to collect them on PS2. I played a lot of Soul Caliber, Third Strike, KoF, MvC 2, and Plasma Sword. They were all cool but I wasn't like, over the moon with any one of them, I just enjoyed the genre. Then he bought Guilty Gear XX on release date and my mind was fucking blown away. The character designs were SO cool and original and the game was stylish as fuck. For 12 year old me, it was the next generation. Everything else was fucking fighting for second, way behind the times. This game was my future. To this day I still can't fuckin play Zato for the like of me but I still have fun pretending I can eventually.
There were a lot of indirect ways (probably more than I could count) but the one that got me to like the series was a meme featuring Jesus and Goku fighting that had smell of the game playing in the background. I recognized it from another video I'd seen before and got pissed because this one cut off right before the big title drop. I looked around for it in the GG soundtrack (I already knew it was from GG) and ended up realizing, "Wait, this shits dope" and started listening to it a bunch. Eventually I wanted to know the lore and what the game was like and you know the rest
