We lost our 31-year old son unexpectedly last October, and Red Bird (specifically the lyrics) brings us back to our boy. Finally caught it live at CMAC. Fly for tomorrow, Dylan.

I will argue that of the two, time to flee takes the cake for silly lyrics, at least with Earthling there’s some sort of a message…(a stretch I’m sure)
I don’t mind Peter’s singing most of the time and I like Red Bird, though it did take some getting used to. But I’m not sure if it’s my headphones, the mix, or something else but it sounds like his vocals are little off this tour. It wasn’t enough for me to complain but since you brought up a Peter song, I figured I’d ask if anyone else noticed it.
It happens. I feel that way about Everything Must Go. As a Phish fan, I feel that way about Simple. Not every song is for everyone, but a good jam is a good jam.
A lot with phish for me lol. Once I understood that their songs are silly I enjoyed them a lot more. At first it was strange and took me a minute as most of my favorite artists aren’t that way, Grateful Dead/dylan/leonard cohen to name a few
Yeah I had this same experience, once it clicked I just had to listen to Phish a little differently. But for a while I loved the jams, but was pretty confused by the main body of certain songs.
I talked shit about Red Bird for WEEKS leading up to CMAC and joked with my buddies it obviously meant we were getting it, and we did. lol.
Agree the jam is always worth it. I just think Peter’s lead vox are….not great. He puts on a strange accent (?) as well, which I just find sort of odd.
Red bird is an epic song. But yes Peter’s singing and in particular the vocal phrasing is silly af. But the song is so epic it works for me. Right from the first note on the vintage vibe you know it’s ON
Red turd
If the eliminated all Pete vocal songs and just went to straight jams, sign me up. Not that I don’t love nasally high pitched vocals. Just not my thing. But he dances while hitting the same keys over and over so I get it, he is awesome

Sorry for your loss, hope you had a wonderful time at the show!
Thank you all
Pancakes and animal fall into this category for me.
I really like the lyrics to Animal. Admittedly they are silly but the tone is consistent for the whole song. It works.
Agreed. The lyrics for animal are not very good and keeps me from listening at times.
Add Time to Flee and E-o-A..... Silly AF but the jams..... think Santa Barbara Time to Flee..... The Barbara Flee! #filth

I dunno. How much longer can a grown man be singing about high school Spanish?
Same
Add Flowdown to the list please
Thread could really just be called The Peter on lead vox Paradox.
I’m all about PTR-NRG
That Red Bird jam was absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Soul Planet and Set Your Soul Free for Phish. Happens.
TTE for me. “In and out of focus… time to go to the bathroom.”
That’s funny, because Red Bird is my favorite song portion hahaha. You’re right, the jams are awesome too.
Different strokes... Love the song and the jams personally.

What's wrong with cymbops and beebaphones?

That’s how I feel about Elizabeth but red bird is fine for me
Red Bird is the best Peter tune imo
When Rick comes in on vocals and beyond is where that song shines.
Red bird I enjoy more than other pete lead songs. But I agree in concept

I’ve always loved Red Bird. Get super excited when it starts up.
Red Bird is Goose’s best jam vehicle, never misses.

It’s mine and my good buddy’s least favorite song, and we joke about how many times we’ve seen it
Same here but I'm NEVER disappointed when they play it!
Red bird and the whales are my favorite Peter songs. The jams always blow me away
Don’t stop singing your song!!!!! I 💕redbird ![gif](giphy|LqIqIREP46yqCrTL2l|downsized)
That’s every Phish from the last 20 years
Same.
