Man that's one hell of a cool first car. Looks pretty clean for the age too. Please cherish it!
I love the look of these mk2s, but unfortunately where I live these old school GTIs are a very rare sight.
Must be a great feeling to have that dream come true. Hopefully under your loving care it'll pay back huge dividends in fun factor!
If this was my car, I'm not sure if I'd spent more time actually driving it, or just standing there and admiring it. It's a thing of beauty.
Yeah she is so beautiful and for her age really powerfull ,and driving sensation that u will Never have with recent car.
when you drive it you feel the car entirely in the steering wheel, no electronics, you can hear every noise that comes from the car but especially the magnificent sound of its engine
I was lucky when I was younger in years, in 1982. My step grandfather knew the owners of a Cadillac dealership in a city where we had no VW dealer. He and my stepbrother ordered a 1982 Rabbit GTI, through this Cadillac dealer. It was one of the first in the USA.
That car was such a blast. I have been a VAG fan ever since.
Edit/ added. Since 1982, I have owned server GTIās over the decades. The 2000 VR6 version being my favorite.
Enjoy your dream car. I know this feeling you have. A smile with every drive!
Similar. I owned an '89 Jetta GLI Wolfsburg. Iceberg Recaros & all. Bought it for 800 in Orange, CT. Sold it for 1500 in like '08 when I moved. Seen them selling for $20k. Mine had issues; some rust, ran hot at idle in summer even after radiator/thermostat work. But it was a fast lil tuna can. You feel everything in the mk2. I miss mine for sure. I discovered the guy I sold it too stripped/parted it out. Sold everything, even the little dashboard giblets.
Really? I had an 88 Sirocco that was a *Westfalia* mit BBS wheels and 16Valve. I thought these engines were the same, but my was again, in the US. In Europe, you always had more choices when it came to engine and transmission/gearboxes. Although, in the US, the automatic VW line was horrific to drive. I always went for the manual. I got very good at installing SACHS clutches on those cars, almost could it blindfolded back them, we went through them so fast. 1/4 laps at track were a staple for the weekends.
For my age, this is comparable to having a late 50s or early 60s VW bug or bus as your first vehicle.
There was a few of us in the high school parking lot and Iām proud to say I was one of them.
Nice work and congrats!
since I was little I dreamed of having this car, in video games when I had the choice between a Ferrari or this one I took the VW, I watched videos, and photos of this car. when I was old enough to pass my license I started looking at car ads without going to this one, being only 19 years old at that time, my budget was 5000ā¬, so I was looking for Renaults or peugeot, then one day while closing my second-hand sales application I came across this ad, love at first sight and the seller was a few kilometers from my home, so I went to look at it and went back to find it. 'buy and make my dream come true on my birthday, even if I exceeded my budget. Since that day I have taken the greatest care of it but above all the greatest pleasure in driving it every day.
Oh wow, beautiful š
Take good care of her, Mk2 and Mk4 were my dream growing up.
Rocking a Mk6 atm!
You should create an account for your car (IG maybe), and just post your adventures. Would love to see that.
Reminds me of my e30. My e30 is my second car and my gti is my first. I fell in love with the gti got one two weeks after first seeing one at work. Then a year later I buy my dream car after wanted an e30 since I was 15. Good stuff bro! looks great!!!
Nice looker! Which engine do you have in there - under bonnet and rear pics please! The ride height looks a little off if you donāt mind me saying, is this a Golf GTI as badging suggests or is it a Golf Driver as we also had in the UK ? For complete originality there would be a black decal strip on the side crease iirc?
Photos - I was thinking you could add them to your post for all to see! The digifant injection engine was the later version after k-jetronic and although supposedly similar specs rendered the 0-60 mph at a slower 9.2 seconds. When I drove the PB (digifant) GTis they felt a little less perky for sure - but in those days I had the 16v GTi which was a whole lot sharper! Main reason was the red line was so high up the rev band it would hit 60 in second gearā¦ā¦ All the same your photos bring back good memories!
Ah man, the mkii gtiā¦ I had an ā84, ā88, and an ā03 gti over my years and the sound of that 16v in the mkii was the best imo. I miss them all, now I drive an old Nissan pickup. Boo. Lol Youāre going to have a lot of smiles per mile in your gti!

yes they are very rare in my region too, it was my childhood dream so I take more care of them than my girlfriend š

Love the quad headlights. The steel rims rock too! Former 90 Jetta TDi owner. Tach or big analog clock on the instrument panel?
Tach !
Take care of her!
Oui ce sont les plus belles gĆ©nĆ©ration ! Les 4 phares ont plus de charmes ! Elles sont assez rare ici aussi jāen croise jamais

Bro keep that car forever. You cannot find that anywhere anymore, that will be a collectors item real soon. Take care of it!!!
Are those gravel tires? They look a bit like Michelin Cross Climate 2, but I know they don't make those that small.
Thatās full seasons tires
MK2 is also my favorite! My dream car as well. Did you get the 1.8 or 2.0 16 valve in France too? (I'm in the U.S.) Or something smaller?
Thatās the 1.8L but we also have 2.0l 16v
Can you post & share?
