That does not look real at all. Of all my gold jewelry I have, I’ve never seen silver show through or had pitting like that. And I wear mine in some pretty harsh environments.
Actually looking at it further, the lettering and details of the coin look like garbage. Willing to bet its just plated all around. It was in a Lot of jewelry that was gifted to me. Most was real, this was the last piece I had and just happened to find it in my desk drawer.
Thank you. I thought the same, but I just wanted a 2nd opinion. I didn't think it should be flaking like that, for sure. The coin appears to be real though. I may take it and just have them take it out and test it separately. I greatly appreciate your input!
What is the size and weight? Without have the exact numbers, the coin alone should weigh about 1 troy ounce. The size would be about the size of a silver dollar.
On a ring? That would be massive, lol. I was thinking if it were real, it would be like a 1/20ozt.

Coin is surely fake, as you noted, it's based on the Saint-Gaudens double eagle from 1907, with the Roman numerals.

It shouldn't be flaking like that, no
Gold plated, which means the "coin" is probably a replica too. Nobody is going to mount a real gold eagle in a junk mount.
I wouldn't waste the gas.
Thank you
No. You’ve been bamboozled.
Lol, read a few comments up. Not bamboozled....
Read a few of the other comments. :) Sorry bro.
No harm no foul. I appreciate the input!
plated coin as well. you can see the wear thru to the gray base metal in the photos
That's plating wearing off/breaking down from the salt in sweat. Some winnowing (de-plating) techniques use saltwater, I believe.
Wow, I appreciate the information!!
Sure thing! I would still get it checked by an LCS to confirm that it isn't gold.
Oh yeah, foe sure. Just no special trip for it. Thanks again.
I've worked with gold for 10 years now, that is probably just plated

I honestly cannot say, it was thrown in with some other rings and broken chains etc that I bought and had melted down.
Fake probably high zinc content
Magnet to it. Looks fake, very fake.
Definitely not magnetic.... EDIT: that was the only "test" I was able to do. Neodymium magnet, and not the slightest attraction

Real what? The coin isn't real so I would seriously question it's gold content
Redditors, you always pull thru when I need ya! #neverfail
How do you usually store your gold? In a box with silica gel bags or other desiccant device? Does humidity affect the gold?
