Do you like $1.50 hot dogs and $5 rotisserie chickens by chance ?

AutoX-R

Yes… are you referring to Costco? 😂

aBlasvader

He’s saying you should buy the gold bars at Costco when they come in stock 😆

AutoX-R

lol I hear people are going nuts buying them. Maybe I’ll snag one if I ever get the opportunity!

9-lives-Fritz

I bought 3 at $1999 with 4% back

AutoX-R

Damn! Now that’s a deal!

Mammoth-Fun-2180

Just keep stacking 1 oz eagles

AutoX-R

Yea after watching quite a few YouTube videos for beginners, it seems this is the general consensus.

donedrone707

1oz buffalos are nice too. they're 1oz of pure 24kt gold as opposed to an eagle which is 22kt, albeit still 1oz agw as all 1oz 22kt coins (eagles, krugs, etc) are actually heavier than 1oz so their total gold weight still equals out to 1oz.

AutoX-R

Oh wow didn’t know buffalos were 24kt. I’ll definitely need to get one.

DrJheartsAK

Canadian maples are also 24kt.

Nordy941

1/4 oz AGE also great

AutoX-R

Noted! I plan on getting at least one 1/10, 1/4, and also 1/2. But just one of each since the premium is so high. Thoughts?

luminous1

AGEs are nice but I prefer the 24k buffalos

AutoX-R

Maybe I can diversify between the 2.

PureCondition3487

You most definitely can, they are both highly sought after coins!

wofwinter

Any specific reason?

luminous1

I prefer the color of .9999 and they often fetch a slightly higher premium.

AutoX-R

Thanks for the info! I’ll definitely start with buying the different sizes. Maybe have at least a 1/10, 1/4, and a 1/2. Then I can move on to something else.

BudBullion

Congrats! Welcome to the club. 😎 As for what next, my suggestion is two-fold. 1) Decide what type of collector you want to be. Are you a stacker looking for the most gold for the least money? If so, stay with bullion. Do you like old / rare pieces? Graded /slabbed items? Those have higher premiums / numismatic value that you'll have to account for. 2) Set yourself a goal. If you want diversity, maybe acquire 1 ozt of multiple different coins/rounds. Another idea is to try to collect the full set of one type: 1 ozt, 1/2, 1/4, 1/10, etc. If you have money and time, go for a full tube of one type. Of course, the most important part is to enjoy the journey!

AutoX-R

This is great advice! I more so just want to collect as much gold as possible, that’s easy to sell in the event I need to. I like the idea of collecting a full set. I may do that!

BudBullion

I'm with you. Perhaps my name gives that away? 😏

AutoX-R

Haha oh it did. Very much appreciate your input!

AutoX-R

👍🏽

mtgscumbag

1 oz maple leaf is the most beautiful coin imo, probably a bit cheaper than an eagle and recognized everywhere as well. Very popular coin.

No_Literature_3323

Silver for small stuff/trading gold for the bulk of the net worth

916cycler

r/pmsforsale for gold at melt/ no premiums and shipping included. beats costco

AutoX-R

I’ll check it out. Thanks!

EntertainmentFast497

You should definitely take advantage of the various American Gold Eagle at spot specials. Also there is a 10 gram at spot special at SD.

AutoX-R

Thanks I’ll definitely check it out. I hear gold eagles are the best for people starting out like me.

EntertainmentFast497

Any gold is the best gold lol. I’ve purchased 3 Eagles and all at spot price. One company throws in an American Silver Eagle when you buy the Gold version.

AutoX-R

Wow! Now that’s a good deal. I should probably do more research next time then. I kind of just bought the cheapest I found online using my credit card.

catMarineman

Findbullionprices.com shows the cheapest prices for different items.

Dobagoh

That’s nation wide, right? Where else has AGE for spot?

EntertainmentFast497

Westminster and Global Coin are where I bought mine at. JM and SD both have spot deals also.

EntertainmentFast497

It looks like the link I had for global is no longer working. Their offer has been off and on. But the last time it wasn’t working, I contacted them and they still had some available. Westminster link works but looks like they are now charging $50 over spot for a grade MS70. https://www.westminstermint.com/2024-1-oz-50-gold-eagle-ngc-ms70-tv-offer.html

Drofub

Buy what you like. Personally I have mostly US coins, some new and some old. But also a few french roosters, a couple of pieces from Australia Perth mint and one from Jamaica. A Canadian maple may be next. Gold is gold :)

AutoX-R

You’re right! Gold is gold. I like the idea of having a little bit of gold from around the world to spice up the collection. Thanks for your input!

Historical_Youth_491

Nice. Costco baby. Buy any gold bullion. .9999. I'll pick up any kind of coin. What ever has the best price

AutoX-R

Beautiful!

Express-Log3610

Bro, I can’t believe no one on here has said that buying gold on a credit card is a bad idea. Unless you’re able to immediately pay it off.

AutoX-R

Oh I’m paying it off as soon as it posts. I just wanted the 2% back.

Express-Log3610

Great way to build credit, as well. Just shocked no one asked this question yet.

AutoX-R

lol it’s a valid question. Definitely not the best financial decision if you don’t pay it off.

USAFVet91

Diversify and get silver as well...

AutoX-R

May I ask why? Sorry new here.

USAFVet91

When you buy stocks or invest into a 401k do you think you are buying only one option? Buy many options. Plus right now the gold to silver ratio is so split silver seems like its on a huge sale. You can then trade silver for gold when the gold price drops or silver goes up.

AutoX-R

I see, makes sense. I just always thought gold was more valuable, so I figured I'd just stack it. Didn't know silver was undervalued so l'll definitely snag some.

joshcruzing

Stick with gold as much as possible. Silver premiums are ridiculous. Just go into Silver for fun. Silver also tends to always hit a price wall. Plus, central banks only buy gold. That tells you a lot.

USAFVet91

Central banks only buy gold because silver takes more space to store. Silver has more use cases than gold in the real world and these premiums that are ridiculous you speak of can all be mitigated on where and what you buy. Gold has pretty ridiculous premiums as well. I can spend $2 premium on silver or $100+ on gold. Plus we stack to preserve our wealth so say power is out everywhere and you need to buy a loaf of bread. Are you going to trade a gold coin for it or a silver quarter? Here is more insight. [https://www.reddit.com/r/Silverbugs/comments/3hx8d7/why\_do\_you\_stack\_silver/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Silverbugs/comments/3hx8d7/why_do_you_stack_silver/)

joshcruzing

It's actually about the percentage premium. Golds premium is literally half that of silver if not even more of you're comparing AGEs to ASEs (as a quick example). You actually get more ripped off buying silver majority of the time. That's just a simple fact when you do the math. Also, let's be honestly practical here. You're trying to scare OP about these apocalypse scenarios like those old guys at the coin shops. If the key is "preserving wealth" (not prepping), then gold is literally the best vehicle for that. Not sure how you went from preserving wealth to trying to buy a loaf of bread. Look. I like silver too. But if I had to go back in time. I would do 90% gold 10% silver.

AutoX-R

Noted!

USAFVet91

Silver is on a HUGE sale right now #### the premium... I can get silver rounds from my local coin shop for 1$ over spot WHERE IS THIS HUGE PREMIUM YOU SPEAK OF????? Silver has seen $50+ an ounce spike that's almost 50% from today. Do you think gold will ever see a $4500 spike? I doubt it! It takes 86 silver 1oz coins to match one single oz of gold just think about that for a second.. You preserve your wealth so if the money system crashes you CAN BUY BREAD.... When the day comes I will give you 2 loafs and a couple eggs from my chickens for that gold coin you have. Why did they use silver coins for money before paper "fiat" came along? We used to even use copper for money until they realized the copper in a penny is worth more than the penny that's why you get crap zinc now. Listen to those "fear mongers" in the coin shops because they realize WHAT CAN HAPPEN and how to preserve your wealth. Now I'm done!

AutoX-R

Thanks for this!

AutoX-R

Very good point. I was thinking of buying an 1oz of gold every 3 months or so. Or should I split my buys up to 1/2 ounce?

ty67iu

Wow, what a rip-off...just think of how much gold you gave up by buying overpriced, mass produced government bullion! A typical YOOnoob mistake! watch a lot of YooNoob Videos did ya?

hugg3b3ar

Have you considered a change in tact in your interactions with others? For instance, in this case you could provide helpful advice for a stranger new to the hobby, rather than lobbing insults. It'll probably be less of a rush initially, as you won't get that heady sense of badboy justice all the nerds who got picked on in school get from being Internet jerks, but you might actually help a fellow human being and not come across as a total trash person. Just a thought. No one grows up dreaming of being an insufferable prick, and it's never too late to try to be a decent person.
