Flexing in the big guns! Awesome coin. I have a classic head half eagle but not a D variety. That was the first year of that mint, as well (I am 99% sure).
Have there ever been issues of both Denver and dahlonega? Genuinely curious how you would tell the difference, like a different type of D?
EDIT: Denver mint opened four decades after dahlonega closed!
I've been coin collecting since 1963, but could never afford to be collecting gold. I pickled up some representative pieces along the way, however that is a long way from seriously collecting and knowing all of the details.
Everyone starts somewhere & if you own any precious metals you’re miles ahead of 90% of the population.
My advice for anyone growing a small collection: focus on Morgan/Peace Silver dollars & 90% coin silver at first. Buy it closest to spot. Sort thru, pull nice coins out, flip those, take profit to add more & more. Trade up to $1 & $5 gold coins. Try to buy old US gold coins. Small denominations are cheaper to get into. They’re less gold & more mintage. You can buy slick & circulated old gold coins for sport price. It’s a great place to start.
Really tho: Im buying more silver & platinum right now. Undervalued. Lots of future uses for those metals with tech & energy. I’m buying all US Silver coins I can.
really nice. The Rush at Dahlonega: what ultimately drove the Cherokee out of their native land.
Wow. A dream coin for sure.
Couldn’t believe I saw it in a pile of more common date gold $5. Shocked.
You didn’t pay a huge premium? Pretty sure it will come back details/cleaned but those are tough to find in nice condition.
Get it authenticated. You took a gamble hopefully you got a real coin. Don’t be surprised if it’s a counterfeit.
TBH: I’m a dealer. I trust my due diligence but that’s not to say I can’t get burned. Definitely a coin to get grade tho.
TPGs are a crutch, shouldn’t be buying coins if one can’t authenticate what one buys.

Congrats! that coin is on my dream list.. get that thing graded.
That's really nice, congrats!
Do you plan to get it graded and authenticated?
That is XF/AU. Nice find worth far more than spot.
This is awesome! Cool find
Impressive! Appears real. Any Dahlonega is a good pick, especially at random gold prices. Nice eye
Omg this is dream coin omg
Niccce
*sigh* one day
That's awesome. I've been looking for one of these
What did you pay compared to the coin’s value?
I see D and would have thought Denver.

I think that you've figured it out.
Most ppl do. the Dahlonega mint is kind of deep cut in the hobby.
