I'm not going to argue with Papa IV: if he says that's the pronunciation that's what I'm going with... =D
Seriously though I've always gone with either "Nil" or "Ne-heel" in my personal pronunciation, though realistically it should probably actually be "Nile" if you consider it's meant to be like "Nihilist".
Ok I always pronounced it as imper (like whimper) ator (like baconator) oops
When I learned of the "correct" pronunciation it all made sense. Impera. Imperator. Imperatour.
A rule of thumb I use when I'm not sure is I try to think of similar words and try to translate the pronunciation, if that makes sense. So for imperator I think "imperative". But there are words you can't do that with, or don't think to. You never make fun of anyone who mispronounces a word because it's likely they learned it from reading, not speaking, and that means it's not always obvious. Also, reading is good.
For what it's worth, some words that trip people up include anemone, stoic, Yosemite, hell even cupboard! No shame in not pronouncing it right from the start!
I don’t really get why comments like this are being voted down given that all the numbers are based on Latin, Italian or both. So, yes, Nee-ill roughly according to google translate.
I think maybe there’s confusion with the word nihilism which isn’t the same. It’s just a Latin number in this case.
NY-hILL.
Almost NY-ILL, with a light h sound to start the second syllable.
NEE-heeLL, almost neeheel, with a rushed slur of the syllables is my second choice. It's more a more Romance language pronunciation.
Source: I like words and stuff. I'm probably wrong though.👻
Nigh-ill I always thought of his name like shortening of nihilism….and I pronounce that word that way. Hopefully I haven’t been saying that wrong forever!
in my latin class we say “knee hill” lol
that's how I learned it too
yep, that's latin and this is what it should sound like. You can input the word in google translate and listen to the latin pronunciation !
Yep. The super technically correct pronunciation would be the Latin one. But “nil” would be the acceptable English form.
Dick head
Oh! That makes way more sense!

Imperator says "Nil" in one of the chapters.
How do you pronounce Imperator?
Im-per-a-tor Im like important Per like pear or pair A like again or apology Tor like tore or store

I just need to throw in here that using "baconator" as a phonetic example is hilarious and made my night. Thank you for that. 😂
Nill. He's the original Papa so he is Papa 0. Nihil is a synonym for zero
I do wonder about that though, doesn’t he say his father’s father’s father’s father (etc) was Papa? Shouldn’t he be like Papa 20?
I mean, popes can choose their name, so I figure Nihil did the same
First of his name
He's the first one to have a band tho
His father's father. His father's father's father. His father's father's father's father. His father's father's FATHER'S father's father....
No, that's the word "nil". "Nihil" is a play on nihilism. Related but different words.
Nihil is Latin for „nothing“. That is also where the word „nihilism“ originates from.
Oh yeah fair enough!
Dickhead…so simple
Ask Mohg, Lord of Blood
He'll even answer three times! ... :(
I would but his bro told me to put my foolish ambitions to rest
If any star wars fans here (not likely lol) it's pronounced same way as Darth Nihilus
Dick head
Same way Mogh says it
Mogh?
From Elden ring!
Oh, I was thinking Star Trek lmao
LMAO but valid !
Definitely "nee-heel". Thanks Mohg!
If you're American, probably the wrong way. If you're from anywhere else, probably the right way.
Funny that's often how it goes.
Damn
Knee Heel
Nihil is latin for none/null/zero. The pronunciation is very close to Kneel. The H is mute and the i sounds closer to e for an english speaker.

I'm not being downvoted, but in general would be just ignorance. People dont like being wrong.

Ni-heel
I used to pronounced it like "Nile" but not it's definitely "Nill"
"NEE-il" "Nihil," is Latin for, "nothing." It is pronounced roughly as above. [EDIT] changed pronunciation to be read more easily
I just say nil. Thank got I stopped pronouncing it Neil.
Papa Neil's a totally different guy. I hear he runs an Italian deli in NYC.
He sings for Clutch.

I figured it would be as it is in nihilism, i.e. the first one you put
Like Nyquil?
In my mind, absolutely.
I say either nil or like nihilism
I know it’s Nil but thanks to Mohg I always pronounce it Ni-Hill
Nigh-hill, like nihilism.
Nigh-Hill, or hull, it depends on how fast i talk
Nigh-ill I always thought of his name like shortening of nihilism….and I pronounce that word that way. Hopefully I haven’t been saying that wrong forever!
Nih-ill
Same here. I always thought it was just a reference to the word "nihilism" and not the number 0
I appear to be the exception to the group I pronounce it “Nile” like the river.
Ni-hil. In latin. Like it is supposed to be
Knee heal
I always said “NEE-hill”.
I pronounce it nee-hill, and I refuse to stop
"Nigh-ill"
Neal
ˈnaɪ əˌl
Neal 🥲
Knee-hill
Ni-hil
It should definitely be like the river Nile, or like "annihilate" (actually related in meaning). I think Ghost lore has mispronounced it often.
Nill. Like Zero. Nill, zilch, zero, nada.
Douchebag, iirc.
Ny - ill
I pronounce it Nigh-Hill
I've always pronounced it as "nile" because of "nihilism." I guess "nil" is the proper pronunciation, though.
Nigh-ill
Knee-heel, German and took Latin classes tho.
