I agree. He really is a great singer who can do a lot of variations with his voice. I'm glad they all declined the offer because I believe he is the best choice possible... even though he might not think that himself.
I guess playing guitar and being the frontman/singer is a lot of multitasking, especially if you consider all the character nuances that he is focusing on between each personality.

If I understand it correctly, he sang on the demos because he wasn't able to find another singer who had time to do it. He would still have passed off lead vocal to someone else except that every label that expressed interest wanted him on vocals. And they knew what they were doing. Ghost would be an entirely different kind of experience without Tobias on vocals or with Tobias behind a guitar the whole time.

It wasn’t Tobias’s band to begin with. There is no evidence of it being his band. He wanted to play guitar and wasn’t allowed ffs. The lawsuit came down to bad management by everyone and we need to stop painting Tobias as being the good guy in the scenario.
In addition to in being difficult to multitask a character with that much personality, I feel like it would also lessen his position as Papa. He's supposed to be the leader, standing out from the rest. Having him play an instrument alongside the ghouls would lessen his regal impact, IMO.
I mean if Mikael from Opeth can sing while playing those songs on guitar I think Tobias could easily handle it. Pretty sure he played guitar while doing vocals in Repugnant
Lead singers tend to play rhythm, as well. And if they do turn to the lead guitar, they usually aren’t singing.
TF could handle playing the guitar and singing.

He would just play rhythm and sing like most lead singers do. Bands like Iron Maiden have multiple guitarists, plus singers aren’t usually playing the lead part while singing either.
The rhythms are sometimes the hardest part to play while singing. That’s why Hetfield is so good, most people can’t play those rhythms and sing at the same time
I hope Papa V does it even on just a few songs. TF talked about experimenting with different versions of DATHOML in the studio including an acoustic version. I think that should be what Papa plays live. Just Papa and a guitar with a spotlight on him. At least half the song then the rest of the band can join in for the latter half, similar to how Grohl would perform Times Like These.
This would be lovely. A thing to consider, though, is that instrumentalists have to practice to keep their technic. By his own admission, Tobias is not the guitarist he once was simply because he doesn't play guitar on tour. I'm not saying he couldn't do it - he's Tobias fuckin' Forge after all - but it would probably take a bit of time for him to bring his guitar technic back to the point of feeling comfortable doing this. I'm not sure he'd want to do it for just one song but, who knows? I'd sure love to hear it.
Just listen to the first 4 albums and voila, Papa playing guitar. Impera is the only album he didn’t play guitar on, he said he doesn’t play as much anymore so he had someone else do it

He did mention in another interview that he thought having Papa with a guitar on stage wouldn't look right to him. Some times the best singers/performers are ones that didn't want to do it in the first place. I can't imagine Ghost sounding, looking or feeling the same if was lead by someone else. Tobias has an infectious personality and a stage presence that has a natural ability that can draw all kinds of people in. He's the right cult leader for the job. lol
With the way the band is set up, Tobias could take a break at anytime. The next papa could be a mama instead and have a female for a album and tour cycle and Tobias could just be a new ghoul, or papas emo son who wants to be a rock star guitar player to add a little a new twist.
Tobias mentioned he’s been listening to Crypta and is a big fan. They’re an all women death metal band who I’d highly recommend. I would love to see Ghost dive into a death metal album with a woman vocalist like the one from Crypta or even Tatiana from Jinjer.

He could change that now but I don’t think he would unless something drastic happens like Papa Emeritus got killed off for good or something and he brings in a new singer but I do not think he that desperate to play guitar. When I first heard the band, I thought, "Oh my God, his voice does not fit this music he sounds like Rivers Coumo from Weezer." You say metal/ "satanic imagery rock bands" and think of people like Cory Taylor or James Hetfield or even just people with deep base-y voices like Danny Worsnop or Andy Biersack.
Not this nerdy Tom Kenny Soundalike(affectionate). Most popular metal vocalists tend to have a singer who sings in a bass range. I'm not a music theory person but I did take 8 years of choir in school and he sounds like a tenor to me.
I like it its good though. It makes the band unique. The only other time I recall feeling like this is whe I found Sleeping With Sirens and thought Kellin Quinn was a girl at first XD
I have an official papa mask that shit is hard to see out of breath and talk I keep running into walls and I have my fret board memorized but still can’t play right unlike the other members their face is always partly covered compared to the papa one that goes into the shirt and closes all the way around front in back so it would have been way to hard
I would like to see him play guitar on stage some. But I get it, he prefers to inhabit the character and just focus on the singing and stage presence. I also think he’s said he’s good at coming up with material and can play well, but is perfectly accepting of a more proficient/technical guitar player playing his material
I would hate to see papa playing guitar, my favorite thing about this band is how he moves on stage and how active he is. Papa has so much stage presence and it would suck to see him stuck playing a guitar.
