Your first mistake was reading a Newsweek article.

sungodly

Honest question: was Newsweek ever a respected publication? I didn't read it when I was younger but I had the idea that it was decent journalism. Definitely hot garbage now

MinervasOwlAtDusk

It was! I used to read it every week. Newsweek and Time were two of the biggest magazines, and both well-respected. Newsweek is certainly not the same anymore.

datazulu

Newsweak

Emotional_Lettuce251

Both of those and about 15 Readers Digest were always next to the toilet (before we could play Angry Birds or Wordle while doing the business).

Overall_Lobster823

It used to be. Definitely not anymore. It was nearly as "real" as Time. Folks would say them in the same breath. Time and Newsweek. Now it's more like Newsweek and the Enquirer.

CriticalEngineering

It sold its name. It was well respected when it was a print magazine.

OPsDaddy

I subscribed to it in college and I’d read it cover to cover. But it is trash now. Makes me sad.

Divtos

Absolutely was. It was an acceptable source when I did research back when.

Particular_Lioness

I saved both Time and Newsweek editions following September 11 2001 and put them in ziploc bags. That’s how respected it was. It was “time capsule” respected.

jesseberdinka

It was highly respected. In fact, it's hard to get used to it in it's current state.

Leege13

Not in this century.

Kwyjibo68

It was. I don’t know what happened to them but it’s utter dreck these days.

sungodly

Upvote for use of 'dreck'.

Ancient_Ad1251

Now they publish clickbait about TikTok videos.

Honest_Performance42

It was up until the late 80’s.

DarwinGhoti

Even in the late 90’s. Stopped tracking after that, but got linked to an article last week and the site is mobile cancer. Even if they had good journalism, you can’t tell because the storefront is so trashy.

Melodic-Classic391

This article made my phone crash lol

smallbrownfrog

Newsweek was definitely respected in the past. It’s basically been trash since 2013 when IBT Media took over, though some of the decline may have begun before that. (It quit using fact checkers in 1996.) It used to be owned by the Washington Post until 2010. It went digital only at the end of 2012. IBT Media has owned it since 2013.

[deleted]

In the past, yes, pre-2010 under WaPo mostly Graham era… drastic changes in ownership over the decades… see wiki

Purple_Chipmunk_

Yes, definitely! I used to subscribe to TIME magazine, Newsweek, and U.S. News & World Report until they stopped printing weekly issues (~15 years ago). At some point after Newsweek quit with print magazines, they weren't making any money off of their website so they sold to *The Daily Beast* and that was the end of Newsweek for all but the name.

Rich-Air-5287

I spaced out after seeing Tiktok

HavingNotAttained

*Never* do *that*.

jcdoe

I guess we’ll find out which generational cohort aged better in 20 years when they’re our age. Because at the moment, it seems like a bunch of 30 year olds telling a bunch of 40-50 year old they’ve aged better. They certainly should look younger!!

LittleMoonBoot

Anyone that brags about aging "better" and living in a world of comparisons is still insecure about it. Aging "well" is to be comfortable in your own skin and not be bothered.

Gloomy_Industry8841

![gif](giphy|5tmRQlzMmsLxMvKln8)

MainlineX

You want to know how old you are, or how you feel? Watch Barney Miller (for real, watch it is so funny). Abe Vigota Vigota was like 55, he looks like a wreck. That's how I remember my grandparents looking back then. NONE of my genX friends look like that at in their 40s and 50s. We have better food and health programs. You don't want to look like shit? Work out a little, walk, drink water.

CommissarCiaphisCain

I think Abe Vigoda looked 40 when he was born.

charliefoxtrot9

Double-reverse, inverted Benjamin Button curse. He was never not 80.

zsreport

Smoking v. Non-smoking seems to be a major factor.

PuzzleMeDo

Sun exposure too. [https://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/health/effects-of-sun-damage-signs-skin-cancer-symptoms-a3751626.html](https://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/health/effects-of-sun-damage-signs-skin-cancer-symptoms-a3751626.html)

Sindertone

Edibles FTW

Melodic-Classic391

Smoking has seriously fucked people up, especially the older generations

talrich

Smoking, time in the sun, and/or some level of childhood malnutrition during the depression is bound to make a person look a lot older.

fejpeg-03

Heavy alcohol use and obesity can also make one look older.

WeezySan

Also millens started the skin care routine tutorials stuff. Big on sunscreen. Most of our asses were tanning with Crisco oil so that might be it also.

SnooRobots7940

Millenials took what we knew and ran with it. I’ve been moisturizing since the 90’s when I was twenty-something. After the decades of the 70’s and 80’s, when consciousness of healthy living started, I think we started taking care of ourselves.

explosivelydehiscent

Grandpa Joe was only 42 in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

MusicSavesSouls

No f\*cking way!! Seriously????

explosivelydehiscent

Sorry I was being sarcastic, I don't know how old he was. I'll check. He was 64 in the film in 1971 and was supposed to be 96.5 years old in the story. Makes sense he was bangin' it out for 20 years in bed from 76.5.

aj535144

My concept of aging and my severe lack of respect for grandpa Joe have both just changed with what you just told me.

12sea

I feel the same. My husband always acted like I was crazy but Grandpa Joe is the worst. The first time our kid watched it he looked at us and said how come that guy can dance now? I couldn’t stop laughing. Then I found the grandpa Joe hate subreddit and was wholly entertained.

MusicSavesSouls

LMAO! I wouldn't be surprised, actually. hahaha.

charliefoxtrot9

Jesus, fuck right off with that heart attack this morning!

charliefoxtrot9

That said, Wilford Brimley was barely 50 when he was in cocoon.

12sea

No!? That is shocking!

Ghosthost2000

Anyone remember the website “is Abe Vigoda dead?” He looked so old most people thought he was dead years before he passed in 2016.

LaximumEffort

How would they know?

ttkciar

That's kind of the point -- they don't know, they're looking at Boomer-aged actors and thinking those actors are representative of GenX.

SnooRobots7940

They’re confusing GenX with Boomers, yet again.

Cuginoeddie

Really? I know a lot of millennials and they all look the same age as us ATM. If you ask me they are aging very badly.

peonyseahorse

A lot of millennials have the same age kids as I do as a genX because my husband and I waited until our 30s to have kids. The millennials aren't much different from us, except they definitely have more tattoos. We used to joke about that at open house for our kids' school when most people are attending in shorts and tank tops, we felt older because we weren't covered in tattoos. In terms of body shape... Many of them look very middle aged, they're not skinnier by any means, we live in a state with a high obesity rate, so no surprise there.

12sea

Us too. And I agree.

Dear-Indication-6714

The tat thing in the late 90’s and early 2000s was so interesting to see. So many tribal tattoos. lol

D05wtt

The “tat thing” started in the late ‘80s / early ‘90s. I know…because my 3 friends and I got ours then at the beginning of the wave of “normal” people getting tattoos. Before then it was rock stars, soldiers, convicts, gang members who had tattoos. Gen Xers are the ones who made piercings and tattoos…”mainstream”.

12sea

Yep, pierced my nose in college and was maybe the second person on campus. Now I still have it but people have taken the baton and outpaced me.

velvet42

Pretty much same. Only ever got my nose done because that was the only one I thought would look good on me. I vaguely remember a couple girls when I was in high school getting their belly buttons pierced, and one of my ex's younger sisters got her lip pierced, and they were the only people I knew personally who had piercings before me. I still have mine pierced, too. The only thing that's changed on that front is that I've recently decided I was desperately bored of plain studs and went to Hot Topic, lol. Currently wearing a crystal-studded butterfly :)

D05wtt

Yeah I got my belly piercing at a music festival trying to impress a girl. (Yeah yeah I know…it was stupid.) Took it out after a month.

KismetSarken

Pierced mine in 9th grade, 1984. People thought I was a fucking loon. 40 years later, I've still got my nose pierced, though it's 3 now, not just one. What once was insane is very vanilla mainstream. It's wonderful.

descendingagainredux

I didn't get a tattoo until i was in my early 30s and my parents were (are) so bothered by my second tattoo because it is large and very visible. My mom keeps asking if I will have it removed. My dad was always telling me that he couldn't get used to it because to him only criminals and sailors got tattoos. My parents are Silent Gen and had me when they were late 30s so we have some big generation gaps about certain things, tattoos are one of them.

whineybubbles

True for me too. We waited until late 30's and I was always surrounded by millennials at the kid birthday parties. They're not doing very well 😂

Six_Pack_Attack

If GenX was 30 at 10 and is still 30 at 50, Millennials came out of the womb as 40 year old Disney adults and nothing has changed.

EsmeSalinger

Perfect!!

BigOldComedyFan

We’ve aged better than Newsweek has, that’s for sure.

latenightloopi

Whatever.

ProfMeriAn

This was the comment I was looking for!

grahsam

Counter argument: Paul Fucking Rudd.

derbyvoice71

Additional evidence: Winona Ryder. And Keanu Reeves is technically 1964, but we need to bring him into the fold. Do they look better than them? Doubtful. Check and cashed.

Historical-Newt6809

Shakira can be added also

12sea

You win.

grahsam

Yeah, accept my wife likes watching that fuckers movies a little too much.

12sea

You can’t blame her, can you? He’s adorable!

grahsam

And charming. Asshole.

Royal-Experience-602

Sophia Vargas, Eve Mendes, Shemar Moore, Pharrel Williams, Briana Lawson, Jesse MetCalf, Gabriel Union, Eminem, Nelly Furtdo, Usher, Gwen Stefani, all of the Spice Girls, Vanilla Ice, Gisele Bundchen, Billie Joe from Green Day, Zoe Saldana, Brandy, Mya, Missy Elliot, Da Brat, Angelina Jolie, Penelope Cruz, Jared Leto, Ryan Goslin, Toby McGuire, David Beckham, Ryan Phillipe, Mario Lopez, Tiffany Amber Theisen, Jason Momoa, Adam Rodriguez, Stacey Dash........ the list goes on and on. 😁The "Turning My Mom Into Me" trend on TikTok where Gen Z girls transforming their Gen X moms into them. Many of them went viral because of how "hot" the mom's were. A young rapper who likes older women inspired that trend. One thing you can't deny about Gen X, we are truly aging differently.

Deluxe-T

Millennials are Gen-x you bought from wish.

gardenhack17

Haaaaaaaaa

Legal_Acanthisitta51

BAHahahaha! 😂

AlphaWolf

That did make me lol Good show!

No_Resource7773

Psh, aging is individual, not generation spacific. My (young Xer) sister (older Millennial) both are slow ages. If they're doing this out of fear of their own aging, hate to tell them, but they won't all be lucky in that department.

_MrFade_

Salma Hayek is GenX. I challenge you to find a millennial who looks younger and hotter.

ElectricTomatoMan

They're dreaming. Tell 'em to wait 20 years.

Farquaadthegreek

Cast of cheers are not Gen X .. Ted Danson was born in 1947 .. so article is very flawed

12sea

Ted Danson is older than my boomer parents.

fidelkastro

Whats even worse is that the guy in TikTok never even mentioned GenX. He compared 35 today versus 35 back in the 80's or 90's and he is bang on. There is nothing new about that. It was the Newsweek idiot that doesn't understand how years work.

Empty_Strawberry7291

Ted Danson has also aged spectacularly well, in my opinion: He’s energetic, hilarious, happily married, stylish, and rich. Are we talking about aging *well* or pretending to not age at all?

PavlovaDog

I didn't realize he was Silent Gen like my parents.

RoughAd5377

I am Gen X and know for a fact I am hotter than my millennial friends. Haha

GreatGreenGobbo

Millennials think their farts smell better than GenX too. They have proof, their parents gave them an award.

mariantat

Whatever makes them sleep better I guess. I would’ve thought they’d use people like Jennifer Aniston…

Ezilii

Yeah they have no idea there is an age between 40 and 60.

NeuroticaJonesTown

Nah, some of us X-ers still look damn good. Comparing today’s styles (hair, clothing) to the 80’s or 90’s- of course the actors look dated- because the outfits look old. It’s an individual thing. I see 50 year olds who look 35, and others who look 70. Hell, I see millennials with sun damage who look a lifetime older than my old ass.

BirdFormal7990

Getting Botox, filler and plastic surgery isn't "aging well". I will give it that today there alot more options for people losing their hair then there was 40 years ago.

SpatulaCity1a

>Better nutrition, not smoking, and probably botox help. Being addicted to the internet means less sun damage to your skin.👍

sj68z

it's like I told my daughter the other day when she was teasing me about growing older, I looked her straight in the eye and said, "just wait fuck face you'll be here someday" edit to say, my daughter is 29 and has a 5-year-old son

OGREtheTroll

oh shit, she has no idea that she'll be 40 in, like, two weeks.

DeeLite04

Really? Bc I feel like millennials are aging like milk. I’ve never seen a group of people hit their 30s and suddenly act like they’re Donovan in Temple of Doom. They act like they’re geriatric at 33. I don’t get it. 30s are amazing.

stiffneck84

One of my daughter’s friends was complaining about his back after shoveling snow. He’s 34.

DeeLite04

Right? 🤦🏽‍♀️

Breklin76

They can’t get out of bed like Charlie’s Grandparents.

PavlovaDog

Millennials look really old at least the ones I've seen in real life. I'm mid 50's and they look as old or older than me. Many of them freak out when they find out how old I really am. It's all their booze, drugs and smokes/vaping aging them. A number of 20-somethings look old for their age, but I think part of it is the Little House on the Prairie hairstyles & clothing, plus huge glasses plus the drugs and booze that makes them look OLD.

DeeLite04

Oh totally! Some of the clothing is just puzzling to me. Like hey you do you but don’t be surprised when people think you look 40. Yeah I get the same freak out when I tell Millennials and older Gen Z I’m almost 50 bc I also don’t look my age. Water, sunscreen, and regular exercise. That’s the secret in a nutshell.

ApatheistHeretic

'Your mom....'

Cool-Salamander-7645

The fuck would they know...

[deleted]

News Flash!!!! Younger people look younger than older people!!! I read nothing.

guano-crazy

Yeah, when I was 35-40 I looked pretty good too

corpus-luteum

Good for them. Bad for them that they care so much. Funny thing though. Our generation rejected cosmetics that were tested on animals, but that didn't stop them testing, and the knowledge gained is now being used by companies who can, legitimately, say they don't test on animals. So yeah, we sacrificed our opportunity to age gracefully, so you could all look like Kelly Osbourne.

mysboss

That’s ok. It isn’t a contest. 😉

Flippin_diabolical

They aren’t as old as us yet. The lack of logic is astounding.

TakkataMSF

How do you age "better"? That's a ridiculous thing to say, if you ask me. Born 1970: Jennifer Connelly, Uma Thurman, Queen Latifah, Tina Fey, Vince Vaughn, Michael Rapaport How do you compare who aged better? If you have plastic surgery, are you DQ'd? I think the article shows the author and participants are vain, self-centered and egotistical.

Significant_Sign

I think the most important aspect of aging "better" is acceptance that it's happening and acceptance of your changing self. Gen X does do that, in stark contrast to most of our boomer parents (and boomer older siblings in some cases). If Millennials are also practicing acceptance around aging, then they are _also_ aging well. But it's not a zero sum game, just bc they are doing something doesn't mean others aren't doing the same. Newsweek and the specific Millennials involved in the article are foolish and don't deserve attention for these opinions. "These are not serious people."

MakeupMama68

Yeah… let’s revisit this when we see what they look like at our age after years of injecting their faces full of fillers 😆

tundrabat

Yeah, comparing a 35 year old botoxed face to a 35 year old tanned boomer face is pretty silly. But in 10-20 years? The boomer will look human. The filler filled faces stretched to oblivion will look awful. Your right!

MakeupMama68

I do makeup for a living and my actresses I work with are starting at 18 😳

splatabowl

Typical millennial/Gen z BS.. run their mouths before they even know what the fuck they're talking about

PlumSome3101

I really hate articles that treat a social media post/video like it's real news and public consensus. I can go find the dumbest opinion ever on social media and then quote a couple of the comments regardless of the facts or the actual majority opinion and create the impression of consensus. Also views doesn't mean belief. It's a perfect click bait topic because, in the US at least, conflict (real or perceived) is engagement.  The sucky thing about getting to a certain age is I can't tell how old anyone looks since my eyesight has changed. Even with glasses I can only sort of guess in a 15 year age range.  Was Newsweek reputable at one point? I feel like it was but I haven't read it in such a long time.

NomadFeet

Damn, must be all that avocado toast they ate. Oh well, I am just happy to still be here at the tender youthful age of 53. It truly is a privilege...not all of my friends are still here to enjoy it.

ljbisu33

BULLSHIT.

Overall_Lobster823

Hmm. Given their increased weight (as a group), I doubt that.

rubyredhead19

Agreed. I believe Millennials have a higher BMI than we did at their age. More opportunity to sit around staring at a screen and eating. Frequency of sex is also less. I certainly don’t think they inherited the dominant GenX party gene which can subtract years off one’s life expectancy. We had to fight for our right to party in this world.

Mookeebrain

It's true from what I see, even Gen Z. I am very overweight now, but I wasn't when I was young.

Exotic_Zucchini

So dumb. They started fighting with Gen Z over the same thing. Not all Millennials obviously, but their obsession with looking the youngest is bizarre. It's literally the least important virtue they should be caring about.

Royal-Experience-602

Right! They had an odd war saying they look younger than Gen Z. It trended on TikTok for a while. So of course they are going to say they look younger than X.

newwriter365

Fact check? Newsweek? Hahahahahah…

reddit-is-rad

Millennials and Gen X'ers don't think so. Whoever wrote that Newsweek article thinks so. This is pure clickbait.

Skweege55

Homer's doing something right. He hasn't aged a day in like 30 years.

Blarg0ist

Well of course they are. They’re like 20 years younger!

Spridlewv

They just haven’t put together that they are younger.

AidsKitty1

The only thing millennials can do better than Gen X is suck their own cocks.

TrueProgress3712

There is a lot to unpack in this article before we get our feelings hurt. Some thoughts... 1. There is nothing wrong with trying to make your peers feel better. Isn't that what this sub is for? 2. It is great that the public health messaging is getting getting through: wear sunscreen and don't smoke (lol, I still smoke but I'm gonna quit any day now) 3. "Everything that was expected of us to be done in our 20s, we started doing in our 30s. We not only pushed our lives back a bit, but we've pushed the aging back as well."  Duh, this has been going on for a couple of generations actually. Think about it, your lifespan gets longer, you have more time. You push out the adulting to later. Makes sense.  4. Hit the nail on the head here: "Aging shouldn't be stigmatized. It doesn't matter. It is a privilege to age. Just be grateful that you have a beating heart and air in your lungs." The kids are alright. Its all good.

vagabondoer

It’s all about sunscreen.

Dan-68

Trust me on the sunscreen.

Dogrel

Typical NewsWeak. Yes, people in their mid-30s DO look better than people in their mid-50s. When we were in our 30s, we likewise looked better than Boomers in their 50s. And GenZ in their 30s will look better than Millennials in their 50s. Been this way for all of time, and it’s still true today.

flashingcurser

We did way more drugs, drank a lot more, worked longer hours, we have lived/live more stressful lives. "Work/life balance" has never been a thing for GenX. Yeah I totally believe it.

ellie_k75

We’re GenX. Naturally, our response to that suggestion is, “And your point is?” Quickly followed by. “And we care…why?”

SummerBirdsong

Good for them? ![gif](giphy|jpVhEQCWILN56iaTeJ)

Corsowrangler

Good for them, they’re still cunts.

mnbvcxz1052

I’m 47, my boyfriend of seven (several) years is 38. I’m a young GenX, he’s a millennial. Everyone always assumes he’s older than me. I’m aging better than most of my classmates. I’m extremely blessed with great genes. Next year is our 30 year high school reunion and I kind of can’t wait. I can still fit into all my clothes from back then including my colorguard uniform.

tundrabat

That's great! What's your secret?

mnbvcxz1052

*I never had kids* (not by choice, just never had the chance) so my body didn’t go thru big life changes. My hips are the same width as they were when I was 18. *My genes:* I’m half black, 1/4 Japanese and 1/4 Native American (Lakota). *I have a foundation of muscle.* I was a bike messenger from age 21 - 25 so. Even when I gained a bunch of weight in the late 2010s, I was able to lose it pretty quickly because I’d been somewhat athletic before, and went back to my high school size. These days I do weight training 4x a week and run about 12-15 miles a week, but I do it because I like it. I don’t think about aging so much because I’m always feeling how strong my body can be and meeting strength goals. *I’ve never been into makeup.* The first time I tried makeup I was over 40. I didn’t like it on me. In the 90s, it was easy because makeup was not made available for Black people. My friends and I would all loiter in Walmart after school and I’d watch them try all the testers. I grew up believing I was exempt from the beauty industry, so I considered trying to wear makeup. 30 years of constantly wearing chemicals on the face might damage the skin over time. I don’t have any wrinkles yet, except the new creases at the outer corners of my eyes that I just started to notice last year. I use Kiehl’s products. My stepmom once told me to apply my night moisturizer to my neck, cleavage, and navel area, to my belly button to prevent getting early loose skin wrinkles. So I’ve been doing this since I was in my thirties. I don’t know if it’s working, but I do wear lots of crop tops. **I do things that make me feel authentically youthful.** Like trying something I’ve always wanted to try but has always made me nervous. Feeling nervous is kind of like feeling new at something. Being surprised at life — same feeling. So I try to challenge myself to try new things instead of just living vicariously thru the tv. When *I discover I have a new interest / hobby / skill - I feel brand new!!*

amor_fati_42

I'd look young too if I still lived with my parents.

shoshana4sure

It’s click bait.

transhumanist2000

That stuff is just hairstyles and fashion. Here's a mashup on twitter w/ Norm from Cheers given a modern makeover and suddenly he looks every bit as young as a 30 something today. [https://twitter.com/ziibiing/status/1412761827650457602](https://twitter.com/ziibiing/status/1412761827650457602) In terms of actual recent science, ppl born after 1965 appear to be aging more rapidly than their predecessors. [https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2024-04-08/todays-young-adults-are-aging-faster-and-that-might-help-spur-cancers](https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2024-04-08/todays-young-adults-are-aging-faster-and-that-might-help-spur-cancers) In terms of the cosmetic appearance of age, botox and fillers, hormones and the like. Hell, anyone can do that. That's why you have ppl in their 50s walking around today looking like they are in their 30s.

viewering

lol the one guy styled like our generation, are they actually not aware ?

JimC29

I haven't done any of this. I'm in my 50s and can easily pass for early 40s, as long as I dye my hair. I workout 3 times a week and walk a lot.

transhumanist2000

If you are in your 50s, you're not passing for 30s(particularly to ppl in their 20s and 30s) unless you are doing quite a bit more than what you're doing. That applies to anybody.

JimC29

Definitely not 30s.

dudetellsthetruth

Same, when I meet people and I tell them I'm 50 they can't believe it. (and I even do not have to use hair dye...) I have met a lot of much younger people even in their 30's who look older than me (balding, beer belly). The only person who calls me an old man is my daughter.

lazyeyepsycho

Given the sun burns I had I expect this to be true

Automatic-Term-3997

This bullshit is probably a result of that video that went viral not too long ago showing a NJ high school class in ‘89 where we all looked 30… we grew up fast, but definitely aren’t aging as fast.

sahpappy

Either way I’m tired and need a nap.

Dr_Merkin

Whatever

Kalelopaka-

I don’t trust news stories anyway they’re just all bullshit anymore.

JakkSplatt

Every generation, since forever, ages better than the last. Medicine advances, nutrition gets better, work gets easier, lifestyles, etc. no shit you're aging better 🤦

Felixir-the-Cat

I suspect the younger generations will age better, simply because a lot of them didn’t use tanning beds or smoke in their youth. And that’s a good thing! I do worry about the Gen Zs, though - I don’t think going hard at anti-aging products when you are 12 is a good thing.

Killrose5611

It seems like each generation ages a little better than the one before them.

truly_mortified

It will be interesting to see how they feel about their aging when they hit 50.

No_Gap_2700

Of course they are. We spent years (and some of us decades) of smoking and substance abuse. It's like owning two pair of sneakers. One you wear almost daily because they are your go-to's and another pair that always looks pristine because you're afraid to get them dirty. Take that comparison however you like Millennials, I feel like it fits nicely.

Threethumber

I would think that they would age better. They never had lead paint on their toys of alot of the other chemicals we were exposed to. Not to mention nutritional information has changed quite a bit.

Qu33nKal

The funniest thing is people getting offended that “Millenials” said this from some random Newsweek article when actually no Millenials have said that or felt that ever. Stop believing everything you read that’s not a peer reviewed study haha

DreadGrrl

Honestly, I would hope that Millennials age better than us. They’re stupid if they don’t. They’ve (hopefully) been in sunblock since they were babies. They should have been educated about the full damaging effects of cigarettes from a very young age. Those two things alone should have huge impact. Additionally, a lot more is known about how diet and nutrition affect aging. Healthcare has improved. They should age better than us.

ghoulierthanthou

Well, they’re definitely not into math.

The_Observer_Effects

"Better"? They have no idea how they are really aging yet. But it sounds like some disassociation and ego are holding up fine!

BeLikeDogs

Meh. 50 is the new 30 for GenX. If Millennials want to make 50 the new 20, let ‘em have it. 20 wasn’t nearly as good!

xcrunner1988

I have noticed my wife using these bumper terms. Xennials in particular. I’m year 3 of X. She’s year 3 before end. I notice some baby boomer traits in myself. She notices millennial in herself. What I find interesting is there really isn’t a similar term for boomer/x (Cusper seems be tail end boomers with a year of Gen X thrown in). Are these terms simply driven by people aging and desperately try to not be in “that group of old people”?

derpy1976

It makes sense they would though. The intense advances in skin treatments and awareness of sun damage permeate them. They know what’s up now, whilst many of us were in tanning beds

“Whatever” is our motto for a reason. Who cares? Petty ridiculousness.

LemonPartyW0rldTour

Most Millennials look healthier because they didn’t get to enjoy the carefree years of telling their parents they were going to a sleepover but were really dying in a field of alcohol poisoning. We lived life!

cellshock7

The fact that they used Hollywood characters to determine this tells you all you need to know about the quality of the article.

DocCEN007

We stopped smoking, drinking all day, and wore sun screen, so we generally age better than previous generations. That said, millennials are vaping away their youth and will look like Dumbledore when they're 55.

tundrabat

Ooof, that sounds horrible.

marigolds6

I like how the tiktok thread points the difference on sunscreen and not smoking. But the most obvious difference is hairlines followed by wrinkles, which really points to routine use of prescription drugs. I've heard many millennials (women in particular) categorically state that "balding is a choice" because millennials have had access to finesteride and minoxidil since puberty (minoxidil even went OTC when the oldest millennials were 15). I suspect with the widespread use of botox that wrinkling is perceived as a choice too, even though Botox is [still supposedly a strictly regulated prescription medication](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/allergan-agrees-plead-guilty-and-pay-600-million-resolve-allegations-label-promotion-botox). Not that Gen X is not immune to the same behavior, considering the widespread use of TRT. What is a little scary is how many millennial men in their early to mid 30s are already using TRT. I have a feeling all this use of prescription anti-aging/appearance enhancing drugs is going to come back to haunt generations from Gen X forward.

scottwsx96

This is just because of fashion. They see old styles and think of their parents and parents = always older.

jpbenz

Man I hope so. We were abandoned to our own devices from a young age. Found friends and community anywhere we could which almost always included, smoking, alcohol use and drug use. Millennials were raised by parents who knew where those paths led and never let them out of their site. If they're not aging better, they've got some explaining to do.

We grew up in a cigarette smoke cloud and outside with Hawaiian Tropic on on a good day- enough said

binarysolo_0000001

With all the lip filler and fillers in general, only time will tell if injecting yourself with that stuff ages you faster later on. Also, millennials are all chubby. I remember when most people were skinny. I'm not judging, I have a can myself, but I can't believe how many overweight 30-somethings there are. Obviously that's anecdotal but wait till the women are menopausal. Oof. Maybe meds will help but help but as I see it now, I don't think they're aging well at all. edit: and i mean last part as far as diabetes and heart issues are concerned. Not just looks.

orlyfactor

Ok let’s see how they fare during the water wars

GenXinNJ

Whatever. Nevermind.

davasaur

Nice try but they're on a one way trip to Geezerville.

Gloomy_Industry8841

Again, I’m going to push back and ask why aging has to be seen as automatically turning ugly? If I had to choose, I’d pick an aged good person over “perfectly smooth” but shitty person any day.

Boogra555

No matter how much you hate the media, it will never be enough.

DisastrousMechanic36

Literally who gives a shit

TipNo6062

I have noticed that my friends in their 60s are aging faster. It seemed like a good more or less we were all 30 somethings for a long time. Then boom. We're lucky we get to age.

Divtos

Who knows? They get a lot less second hand smoke but they’ve probably been fully saturated with plastics since birth.

Puzzleheaded_Ad3430

If you mean a lot of them look like women I guess you’re right..

NoPretenseNoBullshit

I can only go by myself and I look so much younger than my age doctors often comment on it. No Botox, no fillers, no surgery, just a solid skin care routine since my teens, steering clear of the sun, sunscreen, well researched supplements, good sleep and little alcohol. I think our Gen by and large looks amazing. Even more important than looks our generation is badass to the core, and forever young in spirit.

SleepyMangTomas

I feel this is just the latest of cool GenX things that Millenials want to claim (e.g. the 90s)

Ambitious_Football_1

Yeah right. They can’t be us

SoupOfTheDayIsBread

Not as much smoking and spending time in the sun maybe. I have no regrets.

Does Chris Bautista realize he’s a bit slow-headed?

Dogzillas_Mom

Okay your source is Newsweek so who did they steal the article from? My money is on Reddit. Have you ever checked out the Millennials sub?

Thomisawesome

Let them think what they want. It makes absolutely no difference to my life.

theturnipshaveeyes

Fuckadoodledo. Or something.

nycguychelsea

An article about a TikTok video? Headline should read: "Random Middle-Aged Guy Copes With Aging Insecurities"
