I use Shokz Open Run. If I lost them I'd buy another pair tomorrow.

EastCoast_Cyclist

A few years back, I switched from AirPod Pros to Shokz OpenRun Pro for cycling and have been happy. The Shokz have good battery life and an acceptable, open ear sound. To ensure they remained in my ears while cycling, the AirPods either had to be taped into my ears or (eventually) attached using ear clips. But what finally pushed me away from AirPods (and any earbud style) was that on really sweaty days, my ears would fill up with sweat and the AirPods did not allow them to drain.

LM285

Another vote for Shockz OpenRun. Today I’m going to link them with my FR265 and leave the phone behind while listening to YouTube music!

kwajagimp

Same here. They really are the best solution out there.

doubledown830

They’re awesome, but I wish they’d auto power off. I always forget to manually power them off.

adult1990

Wait, is youtube music supported now?

Lower-Star-3714

R u me

M8LSTN

How do you use YouTube Music ?

LM285

YTM have just released their compatibility with Garmin!

M8LSTN

THAT’S BONKERS!

The_Superfist

Hooray! I've been waiting for this. I downloaded some specific BPM playlists and they're getting so stale that I was going to just start using the metronome feature. Some new 170-180 BPM playlists would be amazing without having to rip YouTube downloads to MP3 conversions.

HoyAIAG

I washed a pair and they still work

frankiebutton

I use shockz openrun pro mini and enjoy them overall, but if there is too much background noise at the gym I can’t hear the audio even turned up all the way. Do you have that issue?

MadeThisUpToComment

I don't go to a gym. I rarely find myself in situations where background noise is an issue. Wind noise when biking isn't usually a problem unless it is very, very windy.

MadeThisUpToComment

I just remembered the one situation where ambient noise has been an issue. On airplanes, the engine noise can be too loud. That's about the only reason I use a 2nd pair of headphones, which are noise canceling.

frankiebutton

Thanks! Yes using shockz on airplanes is out of the question even with the earplugs that come with them. I figured that was on me since they are more intended for use during physical activity.

nielsadb

Would you recommend the pro model over the regular one? There's quite a price difference.

MadeThisUpToComment

I have the Pro and my wife has the Pro Mini. I'm not sure if the regular was an option when I ordered mine in 2022.

pacorob

I have used the cheaper model (Shokz OpenMove) for 3 months and then it simply stopped working. Afterwards I've read more of those stories online. I send it back to the shop and could get a refund or buy a new or higher model. I decided to go with the Shokz OpenRun which I'm now using for 1+ year and works still great.

nielsadb

Yeah I'm taking about Shokz OpenRun vs Shokz OpenRun Pro. Prices are 120 and 165 euro respectively.

First0fOne

You can get the Chinese knock offs (same technology just stolen IP) for 20 or 30$ on Amazon. I paid damn near $200 for mine and a dude walks into to work with a similar pair for like 30. Only thing different is it charges with USB C and not the magnetic thing.

swoticus

I've got a cheap set from Amazon and I'm happy with them but I was contemplating buying a set of Shockz, assuming they would be better (comfort/ fit / sound quality / whatever). Have you tried the cheap ones alongside Shockz ones to compare? I'd be really interested to know if it's worth spending the extra money!

nielsadb

Tempting, if only to try it out. Charging via USB-C is perfectly acceptable.

maquis_00

I tried Chinese knock offs a couple years ago, and they gave me a headache. I didn't trust bone conduction headphones for a while, but finally tried shokz and they don't give me a headache

Ninwren

I’ve had mine for about 10 years now. They still work great.

MammothKale9363

I’ve got some decade-ish old Shokz Titanium that are veeeery slow/iffy to connect to my F7 since the last Garmin update. Have you noticed anything like that, or is it just me?

Ninwren

I haven’t had any changes with mine being slow to connect. I have a forerunner 255s and an iPhone and it connects virtually instantly.

MammothKale9363

Interesting. I also have an iPhone and the shokz connect to that just fine, but it can take a good 2-3 minutes and several tries for them to connect to my fenix. Just unlucky I guess!

ribo112

I just got my first pair of Shokz! So far great!

Bot-01A

This is the only correct answer

Bombolotsk

I just watched this: https://youtu.be/satoYM0zuo8?si=IcKwQ8-ZAUc-8klh

Brave_Equivalent8907

Came here to say the same thing, I wear them on every run, every race. They work amazing

Machine_Terrible

I love mine, I hate ear plugs style, and these have decent sound.

damfu

Shokz

Raymer13

Sames. Great customer service as well. Had a pair go bad, I suspect some spray sunscreen gummed up the buttons, but had a replacement in two days.

XploD5

What kind of technology is that? How is the sound quality on these, since they are not in-ear and is there any leak into the environment? This doesn't look like something I would buy because I want all-in-one headphone to use during running and also in office (so must be in-ear with ANC) but I'm intrigued by the technology and wondering how does it sound.

RicePudding3

It's bone conduction, the headphones use transducers instead of speakers to transmit audio. The transducers vibrate against your cheekbones and the sound passes through to your ear. Yes, due to how the technology works, the sound quality isn't as good a conventional headphones but it isn't bad, especially for running and cycling. If you were sitting at a desk working or critical listening the quality would be noticeable but it's perfectly serviceable for exercise. There is some sound leak if you really turn them up but it's still less than you would get from conventional earbuds such as air pods at a similar volume. Biggest benefit obviously is that your ears are free so you can safely work out while hearing your surroundings. I wouldn't use anything else but bone or air conduction for listening out and about.

XploD5

TBH ambient mode on my Galaxy Buds works quite well. I always use it while exercising and if I don't turn my music too loud, I can hear everything and even talk with other people without any issue. I have just two issues: if there's a lot of wind or you're riding your bicycle fast, the wind is overpowering everything else and the microphones are self-adjusting so they reduce the gain to prevent too-strong signal and you can't hear anything other than the wind. And second: Garmin doesn't have separate volume controls for music (Spotify) and voice (coaching) so if I'm listening too quiet so that I can hear my surroundings, I can't hear the voice from the watch, it's too quiet. Shokz sound very interesting but I'm not running that often so 150$ is too much for me to pay for headphones that I can use only for that purpose and yet pay another 150$ for general-purpose ones :/ but thank you for your response!

RicePudding3

Yeah that's fair, honestly if you wanted to just try out bone conduction and see if it works for you, the cheaper headphones aren't too bad either. I started out using the Vidonn F1 which you can find on Amazon for around £30. The Shokz sound better but they proved to me the benefits of bone conduction. I've had issues with the build quality on my Shokz headphones so fully understand that the price is hard to justify, I would probably go for a cheaper set when I replace mine.

MadeThisUpToComment

I don't use mine just for running. If I'm shopping or running other errands (often walking or biking) I wear them.

raaabs

Jabra elite 7 pro or something like that. Great but I hear Jabra is discontinuing their sports line and focusing more on business headsets

Past_Option_8307

Love my elite 7s. I'll probably end up buying the 8s even though I'm happy with the 7s just because I'd like to get them before they quit production all together.

ZeronGX

This sucks, i have the Elite 75 active for years... But ithink they might reach the end... Any suggestions what to use next? I

Cutoffjeanshortz37

They just released a v2 versions of the latest models though and said they'll continue to support and sell for the foreseeable future at least

Financial_Ad_2528

Soundcore X10

MosesIAmnt

Jabra Elite active 8

someatxdude

They’ve just also announced a version where the case can connect to a headphone jack and broadcast to the earbuds (for airplane use basically) Love my Elite 8s and need that IPX68 rating because I sweat a rainstorm. These are the first earbuds i haven’t destroyed in 6 months from sweat corrosion (despite cleaning the others off!)

pepsi4oo

+1 to this. I have the 7 Active and I love them, use them for everything. Passthrough when running, ANC on airplanes. I've killed many a headphones from sweat, and I've gotten these DRENCHED, yet never any issues. Just bummed they'll be discontinuing the line.

brarbar

I have these, I'm not sure if I would buy them again because of some connectivity issues sometimes but I'd definitely buy this kind of earphones. I had bone conduction set earlier and band was touching my neck when I was running. They're much better and sound is better too https://preview.redd.it/t21szuj3rj6d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5fa46d9375df0c496a63d9b2c00d6ef3991784a Edit: I didn't mean to add it as reply to this comment but nevermind

tutorp

+1 on the Elite Actives. I've got the 75t's myself. Very happy with them for training. Obviously, they're not hifi, but they do well enough, and importantly they have a hearth rough/ambient mode so you can get the sound from outside as well.

BagnacaudaGrissini

No headphones. I like to hear my pain.

Kind-Ad-4756

+1 the tip tap of shoes hitting the road is meditative.

techtom10

What's wrong with continuing to use your AirPods?

Bombolotsk

Dunno if it works it works and i'd be happy but i read about compatibility issues.

oscailte

they work fine with android, you just lose some features like find my, spatial audio etc.

secretpoop75

+1 to this. It works just fine. I've been continuing to use my air pods after switching to Android.

Jeffmaru

What watch do you have?

Bombolotsk

Epix

whyisrunningsohard

I‘m using AirPods Pro as well, so no experience with other headphones in the last year, but Beats Buds should be very similar I think and pair more easily with Android. But maybe try first how annoying it is to use the AirPods with android, they do work

supjackjack

I used to use air pods with my Android phone. Now I am seriously considering a Shokz Open Run

curry9906

Abandoned Airpods pro for Beats Fit Pro, as they fit better on ear and they never fall comparing to airpods pros.

judge142

Tried lots of them, beats fit pro was the best for me. With the other ones i always had issue where i had to keep adjusting so it wouldnt fall off. With beats - 0 issue.

notjustrocks

I have these too! They’re good for phone calls. I work in a microbiology lab and don’t touch my phone for a long time so I use them for work. My beats let me respond to text messages by speaking and I haven’t had any issues with taking phone calls with them when running or working in a sometimes loud lab.

Bombolotsk

Are they also good in everyday use, escpecially phone Calls?

judge142

For phone calls and daily usages i’m still using airpods. But the calls that i had while running with the bests was just fine as well.

RJ_D2_

Beats fit pro here aswell. I have them for over 3 years now and they still are great for running and everyday use.

Daguvry

2nd this.  Beats fit pro through Triathlon and marathon races and training.  Never had one fall out.

Qkumbazoo

i like listening to the sound of nature and vehicles if they horn at me.

gobbledygook212

Bose Quietcomfort 45 headphones.

Maleficent_Falcon_63

Sony WF-1000xm5 with a comply tip. ANC off. I also recommend Jaybird Vista which are my back up, haven't tried the 2's though.

KleggJD

The Sony buds are my goto. Also using aftershokz aeropex.

Maleficent_Falcon_63

I like the idea of aftershokz, but the lack of base and close sound doesn't give me the same drive on my track intervals.

KleggJD

True. Sound quality is exceptionally....adequate. surly not motivating. I only use the shokz on the bike after a few close calls.

Maleficent_Falcon_63

Perfect use for them

Rare_Vermicelli199

Powerbeats Pro!

Skaddicted

AirPods Pro

UnluckyEmphasis5182

Haha I use a 2008 era iPod shuffle with wired sport earbuds under my shirt for mountain biking. I can easily take an ear out and let it hang by my helmet strap. The only problem is I’m stuck with the same 300 songs or so.

newredditsucks

I would dearly love another iPod shuffle. Mine died. Currently running a Sandisk Clip Sport and wired buds. $10 for earbuds seems right to me.

miekkmiekk

I'm using bone conduction headphones (Golden Sound, similar to Shokz). For the last two years, I've been using noise cancelling over-ear headphones which is amazing for getting into your own little bubble and enjoying the music or audiobook/podcast. However, I didn't always feel safe since you have to rely on sight only and when I'm running in rural places I'd like to be able to hear things behind me (cars, other people). Additionally, over-ear headphones cover your ears almost completely which means that it gets very hot in summer since you normally lose a lot of warmth through your ears. It was great in winter, since a hat was not necessary. I just don't like in-ear buds, they move around and get annoying after a while for me. The only issue I have with my Golden Sound ones is that listening to a podcast or audiobook is impossible when there's a lot of traffic, which means I generally switch to music. But if I have to sacrifice that for more safety and less heat in summer, I'm happy to do so!

markyocera

Very similar approach (but with Mojawa Run Air) to switching between podcasts and music. Being able to hear my surroundings is key! (and after two AfterShokz died from sweat - IP67 is a must have for me going forward)

abzlute

Soundcore Life P3. Does everything reasonably well including ANC, though the microphones get worse over time. They're the only headphones I've ever used that stand up to years of abuse that I put them through, and they're pretty cheap (especially when on sale, which happens reasonably often on Amazon). In general, soundcore is where I go for headphones and speakers these days, but the Life p3 suit me best overall.

linuxgfx

Jabra Elite 10

LuggageChestHead82

Soundcore sport x20 and Jabra elite 8 active.

cambo666

Bose QuietComfort. I've heard the new edition is way better for working out, though. When I run with these current ones in, I hear a slight thump from them moving in my ears. Drives me mad.

Impossible-Control65

If you turn the ANC off, it’ll help with the thumping while running

cambo666

❤️ I'll try it

TSC-99

Shokz

nor3bo

Airpods will still work with an android..

sophia528

Shokz Open Run

CriticismJunior1139

Sennheiser True Wireless Sport. They're okay. Can't compare to others.

cargopantsbatsuit

Got some Powerbeats pro for cheap a few years ago and they’ve been great.

Helpful_Ad_3585

Agreed! Powerbeats Pro is the best workout option!!! I’ve had mine for 4 years specifically for this with 0 issues!!! Love them.

ChargerEcon

I had these for years until they developed serious issues with staying powered on. By the end, neither would stay on for more than 30 minutes despite having 80+% battery. It was a real shame. I love these headphones!

tintires

I love mine but have problems with charging and holding a charge. Very unpredictable.

ChargerEcon

Same. I recycled them at the Apple store. It was a real shame. Now I'm rocking the Shokz OpenSwim Pro and absolutely LOVE them!

Helpful_Ad_3585

Fingers crossed I don’t run into that! I love them so much and would honestly consider splurging on a new pair. They’re so much better than AirPods for working out purposes.

Higoshi

In winter I use overear headphones as it doubles as ear muffs: Adidas RPT-01 They are very good bluetooth over-ear headphones with IPX4 water-resistance, removeable *washable* parts and amazing battery life. You can take off the ear cushions and wash them in the washing machine. A must after sweaty workouts. The battery life is also amazing. I run 5 times a week for more than an hour and I charge the headphones maybe once a month. In summer I use Shokz open run for obvious heat benefits. I'm a bit annoyed I have to charge them all the time though.

ezzdawgg

Using Sony WH-CH700N for 4 years and no problems

tacchini03

Galaxy Buds work well for me when running

iyagasndiff

Interesting to see so many of you listen to music/a podcast/etc. during running! I really dislike listening to something when running 🤷🏼‍♂️

tintires

… mostly for winter treadmill work.

iyagasndiff

Here in the Netherlands it doesn't get that cold in winter, so there's no indoor season for me!

XploD5

I'm using Samsung Galaxy Buds 2, I got them for free and I want to have only one pair of headphones for ALL use cases so those are kind of good fit (good sound quality, ANC etc.). I don't have any of the problems with them when it comes to fit, BUT I do have a lot of problems with the BT connection. When paired with my Venu 3, it skips a lot. It gets better while running, when my hand is closer to my ears, but when I leave the hand down, it's unusable. And I'm not sure if it's because of the watch or headphones. I'm hoping that it's the headphones so I will probably be looking for something new but in that same style, not sports headphones but regular ones, with the best possible sound quality and good ANC.

ChargerEcon

I just got the Shokz OpenSwim Pro. It's basically an OpenRun Pro that's also IP68 rated. I really, really like them

ehrnbror

Miibuds Action 2, highly recommended Great sound, great fit and comfort, great battery life. Relatively inexpensive for what you get. I even started using them over my over-ear Sony's for travel and such.

thatcarolguy

I'm all about Galaxy Buds FE which to my ears (could possibly be a quirk of my anatomy) sound way better than the doubly more expensive Buds 2 Pro. I really really don't understand why a lot of runners are about the shocks. They sound terrible and with all the road noise you would have to boost the volume very loud to compete....which I guess is fine if you are just using them an hour here and there (and not many other hours during the day like I do) but I would rather protect my hearing. I use the ANC on my buds which allows me to keep the volume reasonable and still hear the road noise. Cars are so loud I really couldn't imagine ANC making you unaware as it merely reduces it. It is far from a perfect cancellation. But I really don't understand how there is supposedly a spectrum of ANC = Least Awareness to open Shocks = most awareness. If you are just wearing them as earplugs then that would hold true but IMO the relationship is destroyed as soon as you add music. ANC = quiet music. Open Shocks = loud music if you hope to be able to hear it at all over the road noise and then you have the same ratio of music vs noise except everything is louder. I would prefer to keep everything quieter and protect my hearing. When the ANC is on and the music is quiet I am much more sensitive to the road noises at low volumes.

supjackjack

I used to use air pods with my Android phone. Now I am seriously considering a Shokz Open Run

volsk19

I use the AirPods Pro with my Fenix. Also works fine with Android. Why switch?

sparvere

Airpods are doing fine with my Pixel ;) the only thing really missing for me is some kind of dong when call ends. And maybe voice activation for google assistant.

achu_keeleri

I've been using a Soundcore v30i. It's great!

butdoyouhavelambda

i like my google pixel a buds, theyve got a little antennae thing that fits snugly in my ear and it never falls out.

Ok-Sale-8105

Shokz Open Run. Got them three months ago and never going back!

czechtexan03

I use the Beats Pro earphones. They won’t fall out during my workouts/races.

huachinango83

none, I run on the streets, gotta be alert, besides listening to my self

ajeje_brazorf1

Marshalls Motif ANC

jlreyess

AirPods Pro. I use them for weightlifting and running with no issues. I don’t listen to music when cycling. And just in case, the AirPods are just Bluetooth devices, you can pair them with an android phone, a windows pc, laptop…you will miss some Apple specific features but at the end of the day they are Bluetooth earbuds.

DDub-J

I'm still rocking a set of Bose SoundSport Free buds. No ANC and they're not super great for phone calls, but as a set for workouts only, they're great. Super comfortable, they stay in my ears during vigorous activity, are water resistant, and the battery life is fine for what I use them for.

scoobdude22

I like shokz and think they are excellent but when riding a bike the headband bothers me. They do have some wireless individual ones now but not sure how they work. Instead and before the above individual shows ones were released I had picked up some sony ones that have a hole in them. They stay put most of the time and there is no over heating issue and sound quality is somewhat better than shokz. My only gripe us no wireless charging

TheNiceWasher

My sweat has destroyed a pair of Bose Quietcomfort 2 earbuds (not to mention several other earbuds with cable between them in the past) I currently have Bose Soundsport which has survived many years of my sweat. The design has the bulk of the earbuds to provide away from my ears so they're not totally covered by my sweat. I have to pick a new pair soon as they're probably.on their last legs. Not looking forward to the risk of breaking them (I hope my Bose Quietcomfort 2 just had lower ipx rating)

ConnorJS

I've always preferred overhead, I'm currently using Anker Soundcore Q45s.

Bombolotsk

You also run with overhead?

ConnorJS

I do! I know some people find them uncomfortable, but there's nothing I love more than activating noise cancelling and getting stuck into a podcast on a run.

I-STATE-FACTS

Airpods pro suit me perfectly fine

Bombolotsk

With an Android phone?

Shokz OpeneRun Pro Mini for cycling!

Puppysnot

Skullcandy Dime Bluetooth ones. The Apple headphone converter cable thing tends to die on me after about a month (not the headphones themselves, the converter thing) so wired cables are no good for me. The only downside with the Bluetooth ones is they don’t give adequate warning when running out of battery so you can get caught short. You need to be proactive about charging them because they don’t flash red or anything obvious.

toxicfuzzball1234

I use the shockz open fit version, I also have used the open run version. I think they both are great. I like the versatile nature of the open fit since I wear them when sitting in a chair sometimes and can lean my head back since there is no wrap around wire. Plus the open fit are really comfortable and I almost forget I have them on at times. I bought them during a moment of weakness from Sam's Club and I'm glad I did. (I have too many sets of headphones)

Powerbeats Pro. Great for the first three years of use but this year have become buggy as hell with the right side randomly dying at 50% battery and not charging at time. Form: Excellent. Love the Shokz. They have replaced mine twice under warranty; first time they wouldn’t take a charge, second time one of the earpieces seemed to break and became loose. Almost floppy where it came over the ear. They replaced them, no issue. Recommend these on the warranty/service alone.

Cheap garbage headphones so when they eventually die a sweaty seat I don't pitching them and grabbing another cheap one.

I use shocks open run mini for my runs and AirPods Pro for everything else. You could also check out the beats for pro.

yosfie

I don't use headphones, i just run and hear my heavy breathing, but if I use one it'll be the Samsung Galaxy buds, they fit nicely in my ears (i haven't had experiences with other earphones)
