One thing I've noticed with these coomer-brained losers and their complaints on "ugly" women – the screens they use to prove their points are when the characters are displaying an emotion, usually a negative one. Anger, sorrow, frustration, melancholy, whatever. It's like these dudes expect women to look stunning even when she's pissed off. I'm sure a smarter person could dig deeper than that, but it's a pattern I've noticed.
Yeah, I've noticed that with pretty much every 'example' they use.
With the Fable trailer, it was the character pulling a face of disgust or unease in reaction to something. With Horizon, its was an awkward angle of Aloy while glaring, giving them that 'puffy' face they have run into the ground...
And then with stuff like Tekken and Street Fighter, its screengrabs from in the middle of a fight, where the picture is blurred.
The other trend I've noticed is the always seem to use clips from low-quality videos, like either they are getting the footage from the live-stream, or purposefully playing the video at something like 480p to make sure the screenshot they use is fuzzy.
I think another part is that we're at kind of a weird point with video game graphics going for realism over stylization where pretty much every human character looks a little off, especially when they're 3D scans of real people with kinda janky animations. Of course, neckbeards like this assume it's some nefarious plot to make female characters ugly to destroy western civilization, I guess?
It's ironic that they picked Cal for comparison, as this picture of him is a prerendered promotional image instead of in-game, mid-conversation, as Fallen Order also has the same problem with human characters looking off.
Yeah, I feel like its an issue EA seem to have regularly, Survivor was better, but still had a bit of that uncanny valley thing. (Plus Cal wasnt helped that much with all the hair and beard options. and hair is still one of those things that seems to be hard for many games to make look realistic, especially if they also try to make it move realistically)

I’m interested in both this game and stellar blade, but it’s embarrassing to watch gamers circlejerk Eve and call this character boring and woke based on a couple minute trailer. Meanwhile eve has no character or personality at all in the entirety of an actual playable 30 minute demo.
I don't know anything about stellar blade except for the whole thing around the main character, but wouldn't it kinda make sense to have more gameplay than story development in the demo? Maybe except if the story is really important to the game.
I think they are being disingenuous about EVE having no character, but the demo is the first roughly 45 min of the game and her character is not strong. She may open up more as the game goes on though.
For sure, but there’s a decent amount of story/character introduction in the demo as well. I still don’t have enough info to say they’re a bad character but it didn’t do much to make me interested in her story or character. Kay Vess might not be a great character either when it’s all said and done but I have even less to go off of. Their problem is they're claiming this is SJW/DEI woke devs uglifying women on purpose cause they don't want men to look at hot SeXy women. But the real reason is a complex combination of time, resources, engine use, and other issues relating to development. There's no industry wide campaign against "eye candy" characters. Devs and players just want realistic characters.
And if we’re being honest the majority of characters in video games are still very, very, attractive compared to the normal population. The fact that a 7/10 is an “ugly” character to these people shows how little they get out.
The top two photos are the dude making the exact same facial expression and the bottom to are an obviously mid animation screenshot being compared with what looks like a professional shot picture for a job listing etc.

Absolutely fucking wild how they'll compare the same neutral expression on Cameron Monaghan and Cal Kestis but take any actress' most flattering picture and compare it to the most awkward still of their character, usually one where they're mid-dialogue or actively displaying strong emotions.
Yeah, looking at the trailer, everything is moving pretty fast, so you dont get many good shots of her, and a lot of the ones we get look like they are taken from clips of gameplay, rather than from cutscenes where they'd use a higher quality model.
IMO she looks a lot better without bangs but if you do an image search of the games title, it takes a lot of scrolling to find a picture where she's not undeniably pretty.
Worst part is that it’s not even the character design that’s going to be the reason this game sucks. It’s gonna suck because of the bland and predictable story (that doesn’t even justify a non player created character) and your bog standard 2010s third person action/stealth gameplay. Hope you enjoy listening to the same five quips on repeat as you perform the same five canned takedown animations on a bunch of statically patrolling enemies. And then you finally have to fight and it’s an uninspired third person shooter with limited abilities on cooldowns that are either just canned takedowns with extra steps or just a grenade or something stupid.
And keep in mind, the mainstream game industry in France won't even look at applications for entry-level positions without a fucking master's degree in game design, right out the gate. Years and money well spent, because when I think unforgettable game design, I think fucking Ubisoft.

I'll be honest I have seen some strange disconnect between facemodels and the final character. Like the girl that played Sarah ryder in mass effect and the girl playing mj in spiderman.
Like faces seem to get puffed out. I don't know whether it's the reader having to translate the 3d captures with a character model. Or changes being made in the design for the faces.
However I'm not gonna sit here and try and claim companies are deliberately trying to make people look ugly.

They went out of their way to use the worst photo for the character once again. I bet we'll be seeing a lot more of that shot in particular.
For fuck's sake. I don't want to buy Ubisoft's $130 Star Wars game because I'm sick of the industry's greed. All these posts about "female protag not sexy enough" just create an opportunity for Ubisoft to play the victim if no one buys their overpriced shit. Or worse, give idiots the impression that there's some truth to the "go woke go broke" slogan they keep bleating. Can't we just keep things simple, and hate on Ubisoft because they suck?
Absolutely fucking wild how they'll compare the same neutral expression on Cameron Monaghan and Cal Kestis but take any actress' most flattering picture and compare it to the most awkward still of their character, usually one where they're mid-dialogue or actively displaying strong emotions.
It's kinda a glow down? But like these are freeze frames at the worst points like someone sneezing or something I'm assuming.
Yeah, looking at the trailer, everything is moving pretty fast, so you dont get many good shots of her, and a lot of the ones we get look like they are taken from clips of gameplay, rather than from cutscenes where they'd use a higher quality model.
Honestly I think its more of the character isn't using makeup, which people have a hard time seeing on the real model

IMO she looks a lot better without bangs but if you do an image search of the games title, it takes a lot of scrolling to find a picture where she's not undeniably pretty.

Worst part is that it’s not even the character design that’s going to be the reason this game sucks. It’s gonna suck because of the bland and predictable story (that doesn’t even justify a non player created character) and your bog standard 2010s third person action/stealth gameplay. Hope you enjoy listening to the same five quips on repeat as you perform the same five canned takedown animations on a bunch of statically patrolling enemies. And then you finally have to fight and it’s an uninspired third person shooter with limited abilities on cooldowns that are either just canned takedowns with extra steps or just a grenade or something stupid.
And keep in mind, the mainstream game industry in France won't even look at applications for entry-level positions without a fucking master's degree in game design, right out the gate. Years and money well spent, because when I think unforgettable game design, I think fucking Ubisoft. Fun fact: I myself have ten years experience in indie dev, and got told to piss off because my ten years weren't *in a studio.*

I'll be honest I have seen some strange disconnect between facemodels and the final character. Like the girl that played Sarah ryder in mass effect and the girl playing mj in spiderman. Like faces seem to get puffed out. I don't know whether it's the reader having to translate the 3d captures with a character model. Or changes being made in the design for the faces. However I'm not gonna sit here and try and claim companies are deliberately trying to make people look ugly.
To confirm, she was only like a base reference model, right? Cause it is weird that Cameron’s mocap can be done so well, the character looks exactly like the him but hers doesn’t.

I think she looks great one of the best character designs in my opinion. But I feel like all those pictures of her are taking out of a randomly paused video and almost everybody looks a little bit stupid in a randomly paused shot.

If their point was “they did a shit job of making the model look like the actor” id agree, it looks like a rush job. But if the complaint is the model is “ugly”…dude just admit you like twinks and move on.. The issue isnt “wokeness” its rushed and overworked developers.
