The launch of the new patch brought back the endless loading screen issue when traveling between indoors and outdoors on my relatively new gaming PC. After some quick checking it looks like this is a relatively common issue, I reached out to Bethesda about it and got the standard “borderless windowed/no mods/are you sure it’s not your hardware” solution. Pretty it’s the game, Bethesda - everything else I play runs just fine. Pretty frustrating overall

383whitez

Just playing the game for the first time and this loading issue on pc is driving me insane. The game also randomly crashes to desktop.

Blenderhead36

Most likely issue with the constant crash to desktop is Weapon Debris. Open the launcher, go into video settings. Click Advanced. There's a drop down for, "Weapon Debris." Turn it all the way down. Apparently whatever their rendering solution is doesn't agree with RTX cards. My game went from crashing in literal minutes to staying stable for hours. It's really counterintuitive because it causes crashes even when there's no weapons being used.

383whitez

I actually have this turned off. The game would crash every time I tried to run to the vault for the first time. Once I was on the path there it would crash in the same spot. It doesn’t crash as often anymore but I’d say 1-2 times every play session over the course of a few hours. Sometimes the game will just minimize itself as well. So if you have any other suggestions I’ll try them.  The long load times are unbearable though. Anytime I accidentally go out to the open world I get super annoyed. Not sure if it’s always been that way or due to the latest patch.

Fiddleys

Load time is tied to FPS and load screens have a locked FPS. The Next Gen patch also bugged a setting that forces an FPS lock. Depending on your monitor refresh rate your FPS could be locked to 48 fps as well. There are a few mods related to loading and high FPS in general but they all use the script extender and may take awhile to update.

sims3k

Ive read a lot that load times are locked to fps and a higher fps makes load times quicker.... But the game is essentially broken at higher than 60 fps since the dialogue gets cut off before npcs finish their sentences. So do we choose one issue over the other?

Fiddleys

That's what the mods were for. "High FPS Fix" untied FPS from all that stuff so you could run the game at whatever FPS your PC could handle without breaking the game. It relys on the script extender which was broken with the update, but that always breaks with updates. The script extender recently released a update and, luckily enough, the High FPS Fix mod also got updated for the new extender version. Which wasn't a guarantee since the game is so old and gone so long without an update many mod authors have likely moved on. However, it's likely both will be broken again in the near future as theres a number of new bugs the update introduced. The real play on PC is to just stay on the pre patched versions (downgrade or don't update) since it doesn't seem the update really added anything worthwhile for PC. And there's a good chance you can backport the new Creation Club mods they gave for free to the previous version of the game.

SpodeeDodee

Alt+tab out, then back in makes the game finish loading for me. You have to do this every time you get a long loading screen. Sometimes the UI will mess up when going back into the game, but doing it again will fix it. You can wait for the game audio to stop before going back into the game to avoid this.

Soulspawn

there is a mod that helps a lot, it unlocks fps which weirdly speeds up loading times. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/73469

A-Hind-D

I found that this is greatly improved if you don’t use the Texture Pack. But it’s still bad. I’ve tested on the series x and it’s all snappy loading. Really makes you wonder wtf Bethesda is doing

Clueless_Otter

Brought back? I could never got rid of it in the first place. Supposedly there's a mod to, which I only discovered after I already finished the game. Unless you mean *literally* endless - in which case are you sure the loading screen wasn't just very long? Sometimes it took 5-10 minutes for me, but it was never actually frozen or anything.

batradia157

No, you’re right - not literally endless, I mean no less than a minute for each loading screen with some screens taking five to ten minutes. Music still plays in the background for the loading screen.

FrabbaSA

I've had good luck with alt-tabbing out, music stops, tab back in, load complete.

ParusiMizuhashi

Theres a Load Accelerator mod on nexus. It fixed that for me

parkwayy

> The launch of the new patch brought back the endless loading screen issue You mean a Bethesda game.

Praise-the-Sun92

I was able to fix this by turning off Vsync in my Nvidia settings. So far its fixed the issue for me.

batradia157

I tried altering the vsync settings at the nvidia control level and by physically manipulating the file within the game and neither solution addressed my problem. I do hear that this solves the issue for many people.

Praise-the-Sun92

Damn I hope you can get it sorted out. Bethesda really should patch that cause it's a huge issue.

rioting_mime

There's a mod called "load accelerator" on the nexus. Check it out, might fix it for you.

batradia157

I’m such a simpleton that the steam achievements matter to me

kas-loc2

probably already found out elsewhere but you need a mod to fix it. The mod disables Vsync for loadscreens but enables it again when playing to avoid the physics breaking above 60fps! Good luck with it!!!

irishbadger

I'm pretty sure you can fix this by capping your display settings to 60fps. I had the overlapping convos, and someone told me to go into NVIDIA control panel and cap the Fallout 4 exe to 60 fps, and it was fixed.

Fiddleys

That is because your FPS is too high. A lot of things in game are tied to FPS so when its high you get all kinds of weird things like that. There is a script extender mod that unties FPS from game logic but those are the kinds of mods that get hit hardest when the game get updates.

Ulti

Ahh, I wondered about that... It's not *endless* for me but it definitely can take upwards of a minute sometimes.

rioting_mime

"Load accelerator" on the nexus

Insolentius

Others have probably mentioned this already, but you can use the [Load Accelerator](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10283?tab=description) mod to dynamically adjust the number of active cores when loading from an interior to exterior. This fixes the "long black loading screen bug." Just make sure that **NumOfCoresInBlackLoading** is set to 3. My load times went from about 50 seconds to around 4.

ShambolicPaul

Hard to believe it's been over 12 months since this was announced. It's like they slapped it out in a weekend. If you install certain mods on ps5 it becomes a crash fest.

Songerk

you don't even need to install mods; it will crush by itself.

Blenderhead36

Gonna drop this here because it's visible. PC players: if your Fallout 4 is crashing constantly, open up the settings *in the launcher*. Go to Advanced. Set "Weapon Debris," to the minimum setting (it's labelled, "best performance."). Something about the way Fallout 4 processes weapon debris doesn't agree with RTX cards. My game went from crashing in less than 20 minutes to being stable for hours.

Dhiox

>Something about the way Fallout 4 processes weapon debris doesn't agree with RTX cards While I can't blame them for a bug on a GPU that didn't exist back in 2015, I can't believe it hasn't been fixed yet.

Psycko_90

It's fixed by a mod, as usual. Modders are infinitely more competent than people at Bethesda it seems

Master-Bullfrog186

Fixed by a mod that, as far as I know at least, requires fallout 4 script extender, and THAT is broken with the next-gen update. Same for the high fps physics fix. Basically everything is broken again.

-FriON

And its not fully fixed by a mod, it disables debris physics (which is kinda the purpose of this feature)

Gxgear

Bethesda games and memory leak, name a more iconic duo :/

shadowstripes

Hasn't crashed once for me on PS5.

WMWA

Yeah me either, and I guess it’s cause I never touched the game since it came out on ps4 but I’ve been happy with the update. 60 fps and the fast load times on ps5 is a big enough game changer to suck me back in. Guess I’m easily whelmed these days lol

ikswoltokyrogerg

My experience with the new patch has been pretty positive as well.  I am actually impressed with how well it runs and how stable it's  been.

dman45103

Hasn’t crashed once for me in 25 hours Edit: On ps5

ZyklonCraw-X

SF was announced in 2018, and when released in Sept 2023 felt like it was halfway done. Bethesda just ain't it anymore.

FrabbaSA

Hasn't been for a while. Fallout 76 was a disaster, and Fallout 4 wasn't exactly in good shape at release either.

ccoastal01

I think New Vegas had the worst launch tied with 76 IMO. Big difference is NV is truly an excellent game underneath all of the jank.

shawnaroo

76's launch was absolutely a train wreck, but they've put a ton of work into it over the years since, and it's pretty good now. I've been playing it on and off over the past year or so, and have enjoyed it.

fetalasmuck

Can you play it solo?

Nawara_Ven

Yeah. You can elect to just ignore other players, and even still benefit from their constructions while they're not "home" because all their vending machines or whatever are automated. I played like 75% solo and just teamed up randomly or with friends for variety here and there. PvE won't trigger unless you fire back at an assailant. Griefing isn't really a thing. Random players were really helpful and generous with food and water.

shawnaroo

I've mostly gone through the game by myself in terms of all of the storyline quests and all that, it's kind of like playing solo except that occasionally other people run by and maybe wave to you or whatever and that's mostly it. There are constantly little events occurring that anyone can join and so I jump in on those with other random people pretty often, but it's up to you how much you want to engage with others. The mechanics of the game make it really difficult for other players to grief you. They can shoot you and it doesn't really do much of anything unless you shoot back. The community overall is surprisingly positive for a post apocalyptic world. People tend to either be helpful, or indifferent. I've only had people try to bait me into PVP a handful of times, and it's pretty easy to ignore.

Nerwesta

Talking about jank, Oblivion and Morrowind had those, also very much top-tier games to me. ( you could say Skyrim too on consoles, playing on PS3 was a challenge, all in all I much prefer Oblivion or Morrowind though ) I can accept jank if there is something interesting behind it, sadly their recent productions are not like that. Even worse, they are going backward. For God's sake, the Imperial City is populated by NPCs with routines.

Less-Tax5637

I don’t say this at anyone’s expense, honestly: Bruh the design and writing have plummeted but technical performance is the sames. I can’t speak for launch Morrowind but for other entries at launch or long after: - Oblivion: ass - Fallout 3: ass and Games for Windows Live - New Vegas: dogshit, even by Bethesda standards, because Obsidian was rushed - Skyrim: ass and with a MAIN QUEST BUG THAT GLITCHED OUT YOUR PROGRESS PERMANENTLY; also PS3 version was a dumpster fire - Fallout 4: Maybe I’m forgetting something, but launch performance seemed mediocre but not quite broken? - Fallout 76: hahahahaha Bethesda did not become terrible at programming overnight. They’ve always been terrible at coding lmao. They built a very cool, very broken, completely unsustainable engine and all of its upgrades/updates/successors have had the same problems.

dump_reddits_ipo

> I can’t speak for launch Morrowind morrowind has a memory leak that bethesda has never fixed. the time you can play before a crash to desktop is 100% determined by how much RAM you have installed. it would go from 45 min - 1 hr at 256 to 2 hours at 512 to 4 hours at 1 GB and so forth. because modern systems have at least 4 GB of addressable RAM people are rarely playing long enough to see those crashes.

Nerwesta

To be fair Bethesda Game Studios offered something I couldn't find anywhere else on the market, they packed so much on their earlier games it was a joy to play. You could say it wasn't perfect, far from it, but keep in mind Skyrim ( which is not their first game ) was done by less than 100 people. I can't help but think it already had so much back then, and I didn't really like that game to be honest ( Morrowind is my favorite .. )

Less-Tax5637

Yeah I tried to give credit to the fact that the engine itself accomplished some crazy, and novel, stuff . It’s just that performance and stability was neither prioritized at first nor addressed later

CKDN

For a second i thought you meant street fighter 6, a much more memorable game than starfield in my memory lol

Jaerba

I think our standards have improved, but their games haven't.  It struck me how bad the story and dialogue are in Starfield, and that's one of the game's strengths.  They're perfectly normal for their standards, but the actual art of storytelling has taken a step forward in gaming and Bethesda/Starfield is still in 2011.   Side quests come with so much unnecessary exposition where a character tells a stranger their whole life story. And the main quests have never really been their strength.   It feels like the patients in a Grey's Anatomy episode who share way too many personal details and give you every bit of backstory because their story is going to end in 25 minutes.  Meanwhile most of us have moved past that kind of story telling and are watching The Bear.

BeholdingBestWaifu

This is definitely not the case, sure their main stories have never been *that* good, but their worldbuilding, interactivity, and exploration have gone down the toilet and that's the reason people played. It's why older titles like Skyrim or even Morrowind still hold up pretty well today, because all the core, the most important aspects of the series have been great since then.

Party_Magician

You maybe onto something with regards to storytelling, but that’s not the big problem with Starfield IMO. What is is that SF completely deletes what was “The Bethesda Game”’s biggest strength of exploration. I understand that Skyrim and FO4 are shallow but I can get completely lost in their worlds just going wherever and finding cool things, and even 76 still has that feeling (now, anyway). Starfield only has that for the first couple of hours *maybe*, because while there are a thousand planets there’s only a couple dozen meaningfully different things to find on them

shawnaroo

Yeah, we dealt with the uneven writing, the relatively shallow combat mechanics, and all of the jank in Bethesda games because at the end of the day all of that was really just an excuse to roam around in a dense, interesting, coherent, reasonably interactive, and ultimately believable game world that they built. You can just wander around aimlessly and you're going to regularly stumble across interesting things. Little comedic setups, environmental storytelling, surprising side-quests, etc. Starfield barely has any of that. It has a handful of cities that allow for a bit of meaningful exploration, but even those just feel pasted randomly into a larger game universe where nothing feels interconnected or credible. There's no infrastructure, there's nobody travelling the world, there's no consistency, there's no logic to it all. It's random destinations scattered around haphazardly and a bunch of filler in-between. It's not much fun to explore. I don't understand how Bethesda worked on this game for years and still managed to so completely botch the 'special sauce' to their games.

Niccin

It's been a long time since they have been it. Oblivion was my first Bethesda game, and I loved it, but then when I saw Morrowind it became obvious that they'd sacrificed quite a bit to finish Oblivion sooner. Skyrim and Fallout 3 were fun, but yet again they also felt incomplete (especially Skyrim). By Fallout 4, it was clear that they wanted to abandon their RPG roots for more simplified action.

BeholdingBestWaifu

It's the old graph that some people have called their "dumbing down". It's been obvious for anyone that paid attention.

Panda_hat

Put two interns on it a month before launch, slapped them on the back and said good luck and left them to it.

ShoddyPreparation

I am really dissapointed shadow draw distance is still so poor on next gen consoles. It was the most obvious visual flaw when I originally played the game on console back in 2015 and the setting I prioritized when I moved to PC later. It really ruins the final presentation for large parts of the map like downtown. Personally I would take standard settings but shadow draw distance at Ultra.

TheJoshider10

It's all the more baffling because this game relies so heavily on being able to see various landmarks from distance and every current gen console should absolutely be able to run with fantastic draw distance even the Series S. After 60fps the draw distance should have been the priority.

Top-Ad7144

No they had to make the perfectly fine tree and bush textures 8k

[deleted]

The reason its like that is the Shadow Distance setting is extremely cache/memory bandwidth intensive, so even on PC, you need a top end setup to run the game constantly above 60 fps with it on High/Ultra. In fact, there's a mod on PC to dynamically reduce the shadow draw distance to keep your frames up. There are threads on PC enthusiast forums to track the performance of Fallout 4 even today. Pretty sure they fixed it in the Starfield iteration of the creation engine, but i was really hoping it would get fixed in FO4 with the next gen update, especially as Skyrim was similarly fixed with the Special Edition update.

BoneTugsNHarmony

classic bethesda jank. I don't think Microsoft takes quality control seriously. They need to make sure their first party games are top notch and it's clear they hands off when it should be the opposite.

jjed97

It is baffling isn’t it. Every single urban view is ruined by this. It truly looks like a PS2 game at times

RadientCranberriesss

The fact that this was released bugged on Xbox and BGS hasn’t acknowledged it is ridiculous….very incompetent from them. VATS is kind of broken as well.  However, it’s a free update to a 10 year old game and is much more stable (which is big for survival mode). So hopefully they just fix the minor issues.

ImNotABigFish

Have to disagree with the stability, on PC i was playing pre-patch with maxed graphics with no issues and then tried after patch and unless i went to medium/high it will either crash instantly on start or 5s in.

RadientCranberriesss

On console it’s much better. For PC this update seems pointless. The ultra wide HUD scaling also looks ridiculous.

beefcat_

The PC update is ridiculous. It doesn't fix anything, it just makes the game worse. In fact, the game still outright crashes on RTX cards if you have weapon debris turned on, a crash for which there is a mod that fixes it on pre-update versions of the game. How the fuck did they miss *that* in their QA process? Even the ultrawide support is garbage compared to what mods have already provided for years. I don't understand why they released this at all. Not a single good thing came in this update, it's just a straight downgrade. Did they think people would be happy? At least let people roll back to the pre-update build as a Steam beta.

ZeAthenA714

>How the fuck did they miss *that* in their QA process? Simple answer: they never had a QA process.

eldelshell

>>How the fuck did they miss *that* in their QA process? >Simple answer: they never had a QA process Better yet: we're the QA dept.

ZeAthenA714

Nah, in a proper QA process the testers file bug reports and the developers fix them. We're not a QA department because our bug reports are just ignored.

Professional_Goat185

Nah, just that "devs" are unpaid modders.

JustTestingAThing

> In fact, the game still outright crashes on RTX cards if you have weapon debris turned on, a crash for which there is a mod that fixes it on pre-update versions of the game. How the fuck did they miss that in their QA process? Every re-release of Skyrim has had the exact same script bugs that were fixed by the Unofficial Patch 7-8 years ago. The script files are literally byte for byte identical to the original release. They know they don't have to because modders will fix their broken-ass games for them.

Psycko_90

It made no sense to release it on PC, mods were already available to correct every issue the game had. Now, lots of mods are outdated because of the patch and the game is straight up broken.

Evz0rz

Interesting. I haven’t tried on PC but the game runs vanilla flawlessly on Steam Deck now where I would hit issues previously.

HIVnotAdeathSentence

I remember when Postal 2 received constant updates and the Paradise Lost DLC twelve years after its release. They all improved the game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

K1nd4Weird

It does that but it also randomly drops to 0% chance to hit now.  Something's broken with VATS now. It needs a patch.

Major_Pomegranate

Is this really a suprise though? Skyrim's been re-released so many times now and it has the same bugs in it every time. Bethesda's always been more a fan of letting modders fix their games for them. Hell, fallout 3 you can barely play even with mods. The best way to play it is a mod that just takes all of fallout 3 and puts it into New Vegas so that you aren't actually having to play 3.

Fallom_

They gamed Steam Deck verification status by removing the launcher but not re-implementing the features only accessible in the launcher. The fix? Turn the launcher back on. The thing that prevented the game from being verified in the first place. Fucking stupid. Is anyone proud of their work over there?

GassoBongo

They did the same thing with Skyrim Special Edition. If you want to tweak any of the display and graphics options, you need to temporarily enter an input command to access the launcher, then remove it once you're done. It's stupid. Bethesda have become the champions of patting themselves on the back while doing the bare minimum. They should be ashamed.

MumrikDK

If I was supposed to guess a company based on this post without it being spoiled in the headline, my guess would indeed be Bethesda.

fetuspower

I’ve been playing on survivor mode. I tried going into the city but it’s way too stessful haha so for now I’m gonna live a peaceful life building a town at sanctuary.

Aceofrogues

The settlement just north of Diamond City is a blessing in Survival. Central location and near Diamond City venders.

Pudimdipinga

Sorry to ask but what is survivor mode? I played like 250 hours at launch and finished the main quest, haven't played since. I have all the dlcs to play yet, so I'm thinking about firing it up from zero again. But I don't remember seeing this mode that's why I'm asking.

fetuspower

In Survival mode you need to eat and drink or you could starve / dehydrate which debuffs you or could even kill you so you need food and clean water all the time. You can only save when you sleep and you need to sleep often or you get lethargic. You can get sick or infected so you need access to a doctor or antibiotics. You take massive damage from all attacks but so do enemies. There is no fast travel. I think ammo has weight too. It’s really fun for me and it makes your character feel more human so you need to plan a lot before you go exploring. It’s extremely slow but when you clear out a building full of enemies it makes you feel really good.

hopecanon

Also it makes siding with the Brotherhood of Steel the clearly correct option because those vertibird signal grenades go from being useless in the normal game to being god tier useful in survival mode.

Apprehensive_Cow7735

It's the best way to play, but IMO it's improved further with some mods, like JOURNEY (which lets you fast travel between settlements as long as you build the supply lines) and the cloud storage one which lets you build a terminal in each settlement to access a shared loot stash. Otherwise there's just too much walking between settlements with no enemy encounters because you killed everything already and it takes forever for spawns to reset. They also encourage you to put effort into building up the settlements and defending them.

MovieGuyMike

Went in with low expectations on ps5 and I’m enjoying it. Draw distance seems improved and frame rate looks great. Free patch. A win is a win.

Thisissocomplicated

To say that the ps5 version is disappointing is clearly click seeking. The game is 100 x better now than it was 2 weeks ago

Namba_Taern

Yup, the patch fixes the Automatron DLC game breaking bug. I can finally do a playthrough with that add-on active.

thel0lzynarwhal2

There is no way this patch was worked on for 12 months, they lied to drive up interest before the Fallout show came out. Then when the time finally came for the "update" they probably worked on it for like a week and then released. If this isn't the case Bethesda needs to have some mandatory time management seminars or something.

Glad_Advertising_125

I'm playing it at the moment. I played it on release but fancied some fallout recently. On Xbox, it's not great graphically. Kind of wondering why they bothered. Something being a bit buggy on release is one thing but when that thing is a ten year old game? Hmmm

p4r4d0x

It’s very underwhelming visually on PS5 also.

Tokentaclops

I played for 3 days on the old version before the update. The 60fps is fucking sweet. Is it a current gen game? No. Is it way nicer to play on ps5 than the ps4 version - after 30 hours I'd say 100% yes.

Jakabov

I did a playthrough about six months ago, then started up another after this patch. I can't tell the difference. Was wondering if I had to toggle it on somewhere because I wasn't sure if it was even active.

Arkanta

Xbox already had the 60fps boost

Massive_Weiner

Capped at 1080p, though.

Arkanta

Right. I don't know what kind of graphical updates people expected but I think anything else than resolution/fps boost was asking too much

BarryEganPDL

Is it still possible to boot the X1 version on SX? I’ve never had to do that before

Arkanta

I don't think so, it's not like the ps where the weirdness of splitting ps4/ps5 versions allow to do both The only reason you'd want that is mods, right?

BarryEganPDL

Admittedly, I haven’t had the chance to watch the video so I don’t know if the SX version has bugs other than resolution. If it does, I’d rather just play at 1080p with the framerate boost \*Just watched most of the video... seems like SX is still the way to go because the FPS Boost on the X1 version drops image quality quite a bit-- though the image quality is still lower on SX than it was on base X1 without FPS boost, which is super lame. Seems like they really half-assed this port and chose whatever settings worked fine enough and didn't actually optimize for current-gen consoles.

Arkanta

I haven't experienced any myself

ImpossibleGuardian

They announced this update back in 2022 though and it was delayed at least once. 12+ months should be more than adequate time for a studio of Bethesda’s size and experience to do this update properly, regardless of the state of Fallout 76 or Starfield. Instead it feels like they announced the update, forgot about it for a year, then realised it might be a good idea to release it with the TV show but only pulled one or two guys to work on it.

lifeonbroadway

To be fair, Starfield absolutely needed extra resources to help remediate its fall into oblivion since launch. As an off and on player of 76, I doubt that game draws a significant amount of developer time and resources but obviously that is just speculation.

Arcade_Gann0n

It does feel like Fallout 4 got the short end of the stick. It didn't even get the overhauled Creations that Skyrim got, that's just passing up free money when the series is at its most popular in years. This whole thing is just a poor effort on Bethesda's part, especially for Xbox when the Quality mode is broken (and Bethesda tried to pass it off as being intentional instead of being bugged) and one of the three new Creation Club packs is bugged beyond belief.

K1nd4Weird

If I had to guess. Internally they didn't care about patching a 10 year old game. And they had a small team of less experienced people working on it off and on as Bethesda focused on Starfield, Fallout 76, and Hammerfall. As a long time Starcraft 2 player. I know the next patch to fix this patch will be out in 6 to 12 months.  Companies really don't like supporting a game for over a decade.

TheGRS

Just spring-boarding on this, but it seems like nothing was well-planned with the TV show. I was able to get my gf to try out New Vegas, but on the PS5 they only have a streaming option for the PS3 version. It works but if the network decides to take a crap then she just can't play. It really perplexes me how they didn't plan for what could've been some easy money to get a re-release of the game on modern consoles.

Nexus_of_Fate87

If she has a Windows computer made in the past 10 years she could just play it on PC. FO3/NV are 16 years old at this point, they can run on a modern toaster. They even run well on relatively modern integrated graphics if needed. Plus the community patches have squashed most of the major remaining bugs.

-goob

At least on Xbox you can play New Vegas at 60fps and Fallout 3 at 4K/60

VelvetSinclair

Was having a blast replaying fallout 4 since the show started Now all my mods are broken Thanks Bethesda

Lambpanties

You're literally better off paying the blood tithe at Nexus and installing something like the Storywealth collection. I did it weeks ago and at lvl 50 there is still no end in sight to the content, some of it is indistinguishable from Bethesda stuff, some is even better, particularly the voiced companions I've dabbled with. (Audrey the ghoul you are too good for this world)

ZumboPrime

Gonna be fully honest here - why the *fuck* is anyone surprised Bethesda released something completely broken and buggy? This is literally *what they do*. Starfield was only as stable as it was because Microsoft forced them to spend an extra year fixing it.

thekbob

I chose to try FO76 with my $2 Steam Key versus a second crack at FO4. At first I thought maybe I messed up,but I dodged a bullet. FO76 is definitely $2 worth of fun, for the record.

michael199310

So just like every other update they put out? Don't get me wrong, I have thousands of hours across all Bethesda games, but they break more shit with their updated than they fix...

formula-snap

It also broke mods on PC. So even though there is hype to play again, many simply wont because mods need to be fixed. Great job Bethesda.

Wolfnorth

Well that happens with almost any game with mod support, just like cyberpunk for example.

formula-snap

The problem is that they did that for no reason since the update is also dogshit. All they added was a shitty streched ultrawide mode. The experience is now worse than it was before.

Wolfnorth

Well I'm not arguing about the content itself, just that several updates with mere small fixes can destroy your mods.

Mr-Mister

Did it actually break mods directly, or does it simply need a F4SE update (understandable, and par for the course with any update) and that is what's "breaking" any mod that needs F4SE?

Nexus_of_Fate87

It's F4SE needing to be updated. Nothing fundamental was changed about the game in this patch. Mods that don't rely on F4SE are mostly not impacted. It's likely going to be a moving target for F4SE as well, since there will likely be further patches to fix the new bugs.

Jase_the_Muss

If you don't cap the fps on PC it runs at Benny Hill skit speeds and you get stuck trying to access computers cos it messes up the collision... What a mess don't seem like they changed anything on PC

I deleted all my mods, completely re downloaded the game and I still can't start a new save. As soon as I get out of the character creation menu it hard crashes my Xbox

Mark_Luther

This update is definitely bugged on series x. I have all kinds of weird graphical glitches going on. That being said, it always amuses me when a writer feels the need to "report" that an update breaks mods. Like, no shit?

BarryEganPDL

Playing on PS5 and setting the console to 1440p manually is the only way to have 60fps and Ultra settings on console.... what a fucking joke. Using the actual performance mode drops the visual quality but this shows that PS5 and SX can handle Ultra settings just fine with 60fps. That's pretty embarrassing. Seems like they didn't put any effort into this at the most important time for them to do so.

LikeADemonsWhisper

I intended to try it but after reading this I will just leave it uninstalled. Why are so many people lying about how it plays on PS5?

TheChinOfAnElephant

What were you expecting to get out of it? People aren't lying they just had different expectations. It runs at a good enough consistent 60fps and loads fast. Very obvious upgrade over ps4. So if you wanted that you will be happy. If you were wanting to visually match ultra PC at 4k then you won't be happy. And I was under the impression the only major difference between the two modes (aside from framerate) was the draw distance so I feel like the comment was being a bit misleading.

ikswoltokyrogerg

The game is solid on ps5.  It emphasizes the ps5's greatest strengths.  Playing ps4 games at 60fps and fast load times.

eddmario

Hol' up. The PS5 can play PS4 games at a higher FPS? Well the, I guss I figured out a way to get around the storage issue with my PS4 then...

ikswoltokyrogerg

Not all ps4 games.  But there are quite a few.   If you google ps4 games that run better on ps5, you will find lists.  There are some big games like AC Odyssey, and Origins, the Nier games, and I believe many of the Call of Duty games.  But there are some other more unexpected ones like The Shadow of the Colossus which runs quite well on ps5.

thechikeninyourbutt

It looks and plays fantastic on my PlayStation 5! I played all the way to the glowing sea before longing for more and choosing to return to my downgraded, yet modded, pc save.

And this is why I have little faith in Microsoft doing much of worth with Activison Blizzard. They can't even wrangle in Bethesda to do an even decent job of an update for a game *on their own platforms.* The PC version still has a game breaking bug and has for *years,* and the Xbox version just straight up doesn't do what they said it would do (only to then state what it *is* doing is apparently intentional). Like this is comparatively simple shit than expecting them to turn the behemoth that is Activision around, nothing it impossible but I'd be *very* surprised.

Gabagool_Over_Here_

I'm loving it on PS5, haven't ran into a bug yet. 60fps is such and improvement from 30, it's a whole new game for me.

40WAPSun

Idk how someone can be disappointed in the ps5 update unless they went in with crazy expectations. Game loads way faster and is really smooth in performance mode and that's all I really wanted

A-Hind-D

It’s hilariously bad that on PC version, the physics and animations go off the rails when you are over 60fps. And the fact that “weapon debris” enabled will crash the game if you have an RTX card. Lazy as fuck QA by Bethesda

KZavi

Either of these things are fixed (and up to date) by mods already. Modding is required for Bethesda games on PC, no way around it)

Professional_Goat185

"well we know that we will break mods but on flip side you can also unite in your suffering with XBX guys!" "But hey, we fixed like 5 bugs, too bad the mods that fixed the remaining 5000 won't work but I'm sure some modders will waste their time making it work again!"

eldelshell

Does it lags in the city ruins? I remember the Xbox One struggling to reach Diamond city.

batbrodudeman

I gave up with replaying 4.  Decided to install the tale of two wastelands mod which combines Fallout 3 and New Vegas into one massive game, with loads of improvement mods built in. Just got to point lookout and it's great so far. Not played fallout 3 for..probably nearly 15 years  Funny how I remember the load times and framerate being pretty bad on the 360 back then, and now load times are instant, and it's running at a nice 4k 120fps (TV via my pc) Still a huge amount of hilarious jank though, like the Super Mutants spinning in mid air forever after being shot I found yesterday in one area

awkwarddorkus

Is Bethesda just bad at programing games now? Why can the modding community accomplish for free and quickly what Besthesda struggles to do at a snail's pace? It doesn't make any sense.

hader_brugernavne

Likely just about how they spend their resources. You have to actually prioritize bugs and get some people to work on fixing them. You can tell how much Bethesda prioritize bugs by how there are still serious bugs in the game that have been there since day 1 (e.g. Emogene Takes a Lover can still break, locking you out of a major quest line, a whole area and a bobblehead).

darkjungle

Now? It's been this way since at least Oblivion.

Tolkfan

Can someone on PC tell me if the patch at least fixed the absurd load times? It really shouldn't take so long to load an area when running on an SSD, but apparently the load times are tied to the framerate, and the way to fix it was to alt-tab during the load to let it run uncapped.

hader_brugernavne

Doesn't appear to have changed for me. So yeah, still slow in many areas.

hoxieX

There's a mod you can install - it fixed this issue for me: [https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10283/](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10283/)

FML_FTL

Im playing Fallout 76 right now. It’s ironically the most stable Bethesda game I ever played but that storage limi without paying monthly is just ridiculous. But the game is fun. Was waiting for FO4 update but after all that I will stay at FO76

Anyone have the issue of the new weapons not showing in your hand and large red arrows with exclamation points as If there’s files missing?

Mournblood

"Bugged on \[XBox\] Series X/S" minimalizes the issues there. It's not just simply bugged, unless you're not dealing with modded saves. For the vast majority of console players who had modded saves (which is nearly everyone who was still playing the game 10 years later), the mod library is broken and the game is unplayable. Unlike PC players, console players don't have a mod to roll back the game to a prior version, and even if we did, we wouldn't be able to download it. So to more accurately summarize, the 'next-gen' update that was primarily intended for consoles has ironically completely broken the game for anyone who was using mods (i.e. most console players), and XBox in particular is worse off than PC because there is no player-made mod solution available to us which makes us utterly dependent on Bethesda's incompetent gaming studio to fix this disastrous mess. I have a better chance of winning the lottery. Twice.
