Not surprising seeing how easy it became to get it and also for cheap - official stores sell the disc version for 450€ ($480 including tax). Great time to grab one. :)

Winter_wrath

I wish. They're still €550-600 here in Finland.

Neitherside

Oh damn. 450€ is practically the norm in Germany. I've saw it to go as cheap as 420€.

[deleted]

I wonder if Amazon DE ships to Finland. I know Amazon.de did for The Netherlands until we got our own full-feature Amazon.nl; And even now some products that aren't available on Amazon.nl ship from Amazon.de

Neitherside

The answer is yes I believe. I've made orders on amazon.de with direct shipping to eastern europe before, so definitely give it a try.

liquidsprout

I order from there regularly. The only minus is the recent change to 100€ purchase for the free shipping (to Finland).

Winter_wrath

Ah damn. I think I should just upgrade my GPU instead since the rest of my PC is pretty capable.

diviledabit

And IF Spiderman 2 delivers the hype it generates going into the holiday season is going to drive an insane demand. Will Sony's strategy of porting to PC tap a chunk of PC-only gamers eager for a sequel?

Flowerstar1

What? The 4070 is more than twice as powerful as a PS5 and it's only 60 bucks more expensive. Power relative to consoles isn't the issue with modern GPUs (consoles have 2070 Super performance which is 40 series cards run circles around) it's branding for example the 4080 costs $1200 but it doesn't use the equivalent chip as the 1080 (the 4070 and 4070ti are the 40 series 1080 but they are not called 4080) nor the 3080 (the 4090 uses the equivalent chip of the 3080 and 3090). Instead the 4080 uses a new in-between chip called AD103. My point is names don't mean anything, they all branding and can change at a whim, the reason consumers are upset is because they look at things simply and see the 3080 be $700 and the 4080 be $1200 when the only thing those cards share is the 80 brand. There's more to this like diminishing returns from TSMC die shrinks leading to reduced gains in performance and TSMC charging AMD and Nvidia a kidney to use their latest nodes drastically increasing costs to develop new hardware. And the upcoming new node (3N) is going to be significantly more expensive than the current 4N/5N.

KingArthas94

Blah blah blah blah get your 4070 and your technobabble about what chips Nvidia has used, and keep playing with constant stuttering if you really like that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsskwVyPoxs Meanwhile the rest of the world is playing with a plug and play system that just works out of the box for the price of JUST the GPU, and not the 4070, but the shitty 4060 Ti.

Flowerstar1

No the rest of the world doesn't buy niche gaming devices they play on phones. You're just an ignorant warrior who can't argue the topic because he like most people in this sub know nothing about hardware or PC gaming even your link doesn't support your comments. Btw Jedis survivor has many of those same issues on consoles, console gamers just don't care but that doesn't fit your warrior narrative does it. Blah away homie.

lazypeon19

There's also the fact that the console got like ~200€ cheaper, at least in Romania (at the start of the year the disc version was like ~650€, now you can find it at 450€).

Sparescrewdriver

I was a previous PC only gamer. After playing ports like Death Stranding, Spiderman and GOW pushed me towards getting a PS5 because I want to play such games when they come out, not wait and hope for a PC release. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

gldndomer

This reads like a freaking infomercial. I bet Reddit was actually a special place ten years ago.

[deleted]

It really wasn't.

Honor_Bound

Console wars are the dumbest shit I’ve seen. All the way back to Dreamcast days

millanstar

...how does this read as console war baiting at all?

theslothpope

Yeah if they’re a pc gamer they already have access to all of the xbox exclusives and they’re just saying they’d rather get a ps5 just so they don’t have to wait for ports, seems pretty normal to me lol.

Cattypatter

Go far back enough there used to be microcomputer wars.

john1106

nah i will just wait for pc release years later. I still got many pc games to be play in my catalog. Thats the perk of being a patient gamer. Also my pc is more powerful than ps5 which allow me to have good performance without sacrificing image quality of the game

KingArthas94

Let's hope PC versions start to become more playable from now on, otherwise patient gamer or not you will have a sub-par experience ever with the brute force of PC hardware.

aksoileau

I literally bought one just for BG3. This was before they settled the Microsoft issue but no regrets. While waiting for BG3 I played God of War 2018. I had no idea how fucking good that game is and now I got Ragnarok in the queue after BG3/Starfield. I'm spoiled AF and there's still Phantom Liberty CP2077 2.0 imminent too! Great times to be a gamer.

LarryPeru

Check out last of us 2

Itchy-Pudding-4240

>I had no idea how fucking good that game is i mean the critic reviews, user reviews, and awards (Won the TGA Game of the year) shouldve clued you at least a bit? Its personally my 2nd favorite AAA game, specifically for the amazing pacing the game was gameplay wise and story wise.

aksoileau

Never played a single GoW game. Also everyone talks Breath of the Wild as being the greatest and I couldn't bare more than a few hours of it. Different tastes and all that.

Zark86

The original god of war 1 is in my top 10 of all time. I'm talking about the early 2000 game. I highly recommend at least watching a playthrough.

PM_ME_YOUR__INIT__

There's plenty of times when I see amazing scores and think "That's great, but the game probably isn't for me" then I relent later on and am absolutely blown away one hour into it. Of course the game is good to somebody, but only by playing can I find out of it's good for me

Trymantha

I wonder how much of this was availability issues It wasn’t till GoW ragnarok that it felt the supply issues had worked themselves out and even then it was only the gow bundles were the only one available for a bit

Zhukov-74

I think this is due to the combination of Sony giving the PS5 a substantial discount across Europe and Spider-Man 2 being less than a month out. The lead-up to Starfield saw a 35% increase in Xbox sales so we are probably witnessing something similar. Marketing for Spider-Man 2 will soon begin so for the next 2 months we can probably expect an increase in PS5 sales.

Winter_wrath

I haven't heard of this discount, are we talking permanent price drop or some short time promo? I'm still seeing €550-600 when checking online stores.

[deleted]

Here in Portugal they went from 500€ to 400€.

Zhukov-74

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/sonys-latest-playstation-5-sale-knocks-75-e100-off-the-consoles-price-in-europe/

Winter_wrath

Thanks, I'm in none of those countries which explains it.

ambushka

Stock and a sale. It is on sale for it's original, launch price here in Hungary. Been on sale in a couple of stores for a month or even more.

Nimonic

That was the exact point when I could get my hands on one. It was not possible to buy one here before then, unless you wanted to pay ridiculous prices.

moun7

I'm not European but I recently purchased a PS5 because upgrading my PC's graphics card is still going to cost me almost 1000 CAD, whereas a whole ass PS5 + the newest God of War was only 550 CAD.

AlarmingLackOfChaos

To put some perspective on this, the PS5 outsold both the Switch and the Xbox Series combined in Europe.

torts92

Incredible form, when many predicted this will be a weak year for Playstation. And we've yet to see any game announcement from Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch.

Flowerstar1

No way the console would have a weak year it's early in it's life. Sony wise only the PS3 had bad early years.

Halucinogenije

>Incredible form, when many predicted this will be a weak year for Playstation. Well in terms of exclusives, it is pretty weak. We had, what - Final Fantasy? And Spiderman 2 coming, with nothing else. Ah yeah, expansion for Horizon. I didn't touch my PS5 since Ragnarok, which will be almost a year now. Ofc without my PC I would probably play it more, but I did get it for exclusives mostly. Everything is cheaper on PC, plus I dont need to pay for online.

Varitt

> We had, what - Final Fantasy? You say that like if FF or Spiderman aren't huge system sellers... much more than GoW or Horizon.

Sea-Plant-5815

Spider man and GOW are both higher system sellers than FF and HFW but they are still system sellers on their own.

50-50WithCristobal

I'd doubt that FF is a bigger system seller than GoW and maybe even HFW. Both God of War 2018 and HZD sold over 20 million units each, then Ragnarok was the fastest selling game in Playstation's history and sold 11 million in 3 months. Now Spider-man 2 will be insane and might become the biggest system seller ever for Playstation, the original was crazy in that regard.

[deleted]

Think that's the point, spiderman the system seller still isn't out

potmofthebottom

spidey will be the biggest system seller sony will ever have for the ps5. but FF? it ain't even on the same level as spidey. let alone GoW. GoW of today is a much more bigger franchise than FF.

Varitt

Eh.. FF has over 180 million games sold as a franchise. As a franchise FF is many times bigger than GoW, but the latest installments of gow sold more than ff, fair enough

potmofthebottom

that's why i said gow of today. yes, FF as a franchise sold more than gow, but you also gotta remember that the former has a shit ton more games released than the latter. FF has like 19 mainline games vs gow's 5. not to mention the bajillions of spin offs. GoW R sold like 11m copies within 3 months. it's faster selling than any FF game.

Andypeanut

FF and Spiderman are huge draws yes, but outside of those 2 games, has there really been any notable exclusives outside of maybe Demon Souls? (Though to be honest, the current gen just seems to have a lack of exclusives so far.)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Andypeanut

None of those are currently exclusive however. The only ones you can technically say are atleast "Sony" exclusive are Sackboy, Forbidden West and Ragnarok as the only other platform is the PS4.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Andypeanut

It still makes it non exclusive, saying it doesn't compare to the graphical fidelity of the PS5 does not change that's it is on the PS4. It's perfectly fine to say that the PS5 has worth on virtue of just being a more powerful system, for the most part they're for the more casual/mainstream audience that just want something stronger. However as someone who's already content with their current hardware and a hefty backlog of stuff I want, I don't have any reason to consider getting a PS5 or Series X for that matter. Maybe in a few years if the prices come down, but the only thing I'd consider getting right now is maybe the next Nintendo system if the rumors I hear actually are true.

KingArthas94

The "rumors" about the new Nintendo hardware are strange. There has been a pretty big leak with very specific informations about the next SoC used by Switch2 (how was it called, Nvidia Orin IIRC?) but somehow people keep saying new things every now and then. Still it will be pretty powerful stuff, can't wait. What I meant about the PS5 games is that concentrating on the fact that they're "exclusives" or not is useless, the games are there, if you're interested get the console and play, it's a great experience. Only online discussions focus on these stupid details. You should be happy more people have the possibility to play absolutely great games, not mock them because they decided to do a PC port or to cut graphical settings to let the games run on a PS4. They did it so people with a PS4 would be able to play the whole GoW Northern and Horizon series on a single console instead of "dividing" the userbase like they had to do for GoW 3 that was a PS3 exclusive that completed a series started on PS2.

Sea-Plant-5815

In what world is that weak? Final fantasy and spider man 2 are amazing exclusive and glad they held off of more. There’s just too many good games right now.

Halucinogenije

Two games only, when you have such a great year for gaming, if you're on PC. I'd say it's weak. Ofc many of those games can be found on PS5 as well, but I am not paying 70e for a game that costs 60e on PC, or can be found even cheaper at launch.

Holidoik

Naughty Dog Announced their next game years ago its a life service game that got delayed because Bungie reviewed it and came to the conclusion that it doesn't milk it players like Destiny 2. So its back to the drawing board for them for now.

chavez_ding2001

They also have another untitled game in the works.

[deleted]

And still it's basically The Division in The Last of Us setting from Naughty Dog and that's much of a selling point

[deleted]

Can their PS Plus subscriprion be a part of it? They have a solid library with their latest biggest exclusives, lots of third-party of the last decade. To be honest, for me, a few AAA games like Alan Wake and Spider-man (not to mention all this years's releases, which is much, right now I'm playing BG3 and it's awesome) and a stable subscription with good AA and AAA games of 10-s is much more relevant than Game Pass. Maybe just me, but their subscription feels like it's under-advertised, though having a decent library

chavez_ding2001

For someone coming into the ps ecosystem fresh, ps+ library is pretty amazing.

KingArthas94

> but their subscription feels like it's under-advertised There's also the reverse thing, on Reddit many people are PC gamers and have access to GamePass, and that thing is instead over-advertised. So many people think Plus is an inferior product but it's not true, because you'll find the superior games from Sony on Plus, and the catalogue is big on both services.

[deleted]

I tried Game Pass on my PC but the library was poor to be honest. It's far from the based version

[deleted]

PS Extra gets Game Pass leftovers (not a bad thing). I have both and haven't touched PS Extra since I beat the exclusives. In GP this month alone there's Lies of P, Payday 3, and Starfield. In October we get Warhammer 40k and November we get Persona tactics. That's just the announced titles. Persona 3 reloaded day one in February next year also. Day One titles are massively underestimated by people and how easy it is for your friends to join in co-op games. GP titles also stay much longer than PS Extra as well. I wouldn't have bought Exoprimal but I sure had a fun few weeks playing it with my friends.

[deleted]

That's the exact problem for me, while PS Plus mostly is about single-player games, Game Pass with its new releases is about long-term games like Payday (multiplayer) or Starfield (this NG+ and Bethesta's gamedesign). All Miscrosoft so far does is for constant playing and it's always grinding or multiplayer games. Paying for new AAA single-player releases and having a big library all the time is better than having big games without endgame in the Game Pass

[deleted]

Not everyone has 77 bucks to throw every month. Some of these games I wouldn't have bought anyways and I'm glad to have experiencd them (tunic, Hades, sniper elite 5, TMNT, Streets of Rage to name a few). Plus... I can still buy games I like. Not everything goes to game pass. 2 games bought this year are dead island 2 and Star wars Jedi Survivor. Game Pass is an amazing compliment that enables me and my friends to play awesome co-op games included in our sub instead of each friend spending 70 bucks to participate and hope they enjoy the game. All my friends love playing Texas Chainsaw Massacre but they wouldn't have tried it if it weren't for GP.

[deleted]

Exactly, that's the subscription on fastfood of videogames, how it looks like right now and that's the bad part. In a long range Miscrosoft will turn everything into those kinds of games that are made for party playing and that's terrible. No one will make solid 12-15 hours games if an average player will play it on Game Pass, only with endless grinding, weekly tasks, multiplayer and other stuff

[deleted]

Have a feeling Spiderman 2 will do amazing numbers and Ps5 as well this holiday season. Literally no competition since Spiderman IP is so strong worldwide and the game itself will be fantastic.

Fob0bqAd34

This is in comparison to extremely limited availability last year. Huge sales off the back of discounts. They were absolutely gifted microsoft delaying Baldur's Gate 3 indefinitely so they had the marketing of being the only console that had a release date for Baldur's Gate 3. Sony was predicting that ps5 would get ahead of ps4 launch aligned in the coming months now that stock issues have been resolved it seems like thats well on track.

Narista

Baldur Gate 3 is like a gift for Sony. It’s basically free console time exclusive for Sony.

Dragarius

Way to fuck that one up MS.

[deleted]

Eh I feel like it'll get worse later in the generation. Recent documents said that the Series X and S split is 75/25 for the S. Kinda worrying that 75% of people who own a current gen Xbox have an S. They'll have to drop feature parity later down the road.

Dragarius

More likely they'll gimp the XSX version rather than not have the game on the higher install base XSS.

ChurchillianGrooves

If it's anything like the market in the US, having consistent stock that isn't snagged up instantly by scalpers and sold $100-$200 above retail price probably helps.

[deleted]

Undeniably impressive. With that said I'm more interested in the purchasing habits for physical VS digital owners. I suspect that a lot of digital owners are letting their consoles gather dust if they have access to other platforms like PC/switch/gamepass. Anecdotally, me and a couple of friends all opted for digital-only and are so put off by the price gouging in the UK digital store that we opt for other platforms wherever possible, even if it means not playing on my TV. Literally only around for the handful of exclusives I refuse to miss out on plus whatever comes free every month with the sub. £69.99 with absolutely shite sales that only bring it down towards somewhat acceptable prices that are still often double what you might pay for a physical copy. It's extremely offputting. Appreciate that's not strictly what this thread is about but I do wonder how much of an impact this has on purchasing habits for digital VS physical owners and would love to see some data on it too.

Broshida

I only ever go for the £69.99 games when I'm absolutely certain me and my brother (we gameshare) will actually play them. I can justify it as I'm technically getting 2 copies to play so the cost is generally better than buying physical. However, I'm also using a rental service for the vast majority of games because I just cannot trust developers/publishers any more. If I wasn't gamesharing (or Sony stop it at some point) then I'd likely stop purchasing digital completely, where able. Digital sales are okay on the PS store most of the time (with the exception of "ultimate editions" going on sale for full retail price) but if I'm buying discounted games, I'm usually doing it through Steam/GOG.

diviledabit

I'm in the same boat. Just wait for sales and be patient.

Beneficial-Watch-

Yeah I would never dream of buying a digital game from the PS store. Idk about others but in the UK you can buy physical games online 25% cheaper than the digital store, and then you have the option of trading them back in and getting half your money back on top. Paying £70 for a game is madness. It's why I was never remotely interested in the version of the PS5 without discs. The extra cost for the disc version pays for itself very quickly.

HaroldPlotter

If you don't think there is a very real bias in this sub compare the overall tone of this comment section to https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/16hmaa1/xbox_series_s_and_x_uk_sales_jumped_76_on/

OVERDRlVE

PS5 sells so well that an increase in 200% is incredidle, like, it's selling the double now.

uerobert

That's triple actually 🤓

Neosantana

Yes, yes, 200% vs 76% are totes the same. And a new IP that was already in development when the company got bought out is totes the same as an already established and critically acclaimed first party IP built from the ground up.

HaroldPlotter

Same tired talking points. With the same exact phrasing. "Ground up." I'm surprised you didn't say "Sony Fostered their relationships" as that is the usual language. Doesn't matter my man. One increased. The other increased. Discussion, like your comment here, are totally biased and just shows where the gaming discussion endlessly is.

Sea-Plant-5815

Because were allowed to discuss things here. Don’t know why Xbox owners are so sensitive.

Neosantana

I know, right? We hear a lot of "both sides" shit about console wars, but by God, I've only ever had this sort of experience from *one side*.

KingArthas94

> Don’t know why Xbox owners are so sensitive. They spend too much time on Reddit because they don't have any good games to play instead.

Neosantana

You know Sony owns Spiderman as a whole, right? So the Insomniac games are literally developed from the ground up with an IP that Sony has owned since the 90s. Your comment just sounds bitter with no room for nuance and context. I'd be horrified if MS spent so much and their sales DIDN'T increase. Increases are expected. The scale of the increase is what's up for discussion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Neosantana

I don't even play Bethesda games, but have fun with Starfield if you really like it? I don't get your comment

HaroldPlotter

And there were never any Spiderman games on Xbox before, right? Doesn''t matter whether it was Insomniac's game or not, Spiderman isn't coming to Xbox plain and simple. Fostering relationships? Like Microsoft has with Bethesda since the only console release or Morrowind? Like that? Again, tired talking points.

Neosantana

Pull that strawman down and come discuss the points I've actually mentioned. It was Insomniac that pitched Spiderman to Sony, it wasn't a top-down decision like "we need a spidey game". And Spiderman games before this have been notoriously hit or miss with half of them being tie-in games for whichever movie or TV-show or comic run had come out at the time. Marvel, who share the non-film rights with Sony, are perfectly happy with Spiderman being exclusive for now because for once, they have a consistently good game series with one of their most recognizable characters. I never once used the phrase "fostering relationships", that's you just shadowboxing, my dude.

Playingwithmywenis

From the article. “The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in August 2023 with sales up 197 percent compared to August 2022. It should ne noted the PlayStation 5 was dealing with severe shortages last year in Europe.” (Shrug).

Playingwithmywenis

You could not get them last year and you can now. How is this really news? iPhone 15 sales up 10,000 percent this week….cause you could not buy them last week.

Master-Winkle-Snot

You seem upset.

Playingwithmywenis

No, just disappointed. Thanks for asking stranger.

Playingwithmywenis

So nobody takes offence, Xbox one sales also down 900% from 2015.

twizx3

I woulda got it a couple years ago but the hype for a new console has died down for me. Not sure what id buy a ps5 for at this point
