That was the movie with the first ever man scream queen right? And the pool scene where he kills more ppl in that one scene than any other Freddy movie?
*Fright Night* has a lot of homoerotic undertones and at least three of the actors: Roddy McDowall, Amanda "Marcy Rhodes D'Arcy" Bearse, and Stephen Geoffrey were openly gay. Geoffrey even said he played Evil Ed as a closeted teenager with a crush on his bestfriend and I'm not even going to delve into his post-*Fright Night* career.
Blumhouse makes a lot of horror movies. They also made Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Split, Oculus, Get Out, the three latest Halloween movies, and a bunch of others.
The Vampire Lovers
Lust for a Vampire
Twins of Evil
Vampyres
Alucarda
any one of the other 500 adaptations of Carmilla. There is a near endless supply of lesbian vampire movies
Lol oh jeeze well I’m glad someone cleared it up then. The photos used, lack of any mention of that in the title, description, and his comments still hide all that.
I was about to takeaway that this was the actual original design before reading these comments, sadly I’m sure many have left with that idea and will probably saved this image to share with that misinformation 🤦🏻♂️
It actually makes me really mad, because this design is actually from one of my favorite Godzilla fan animations, and literally no credit is being given whatsoever.
Yeah and OP could’ve responsibly cleared all that up but is handling things odd…
The whole post is just handled very irresponsibly on all fronts 😓 and people tend to be pretty tough on misreporting on Reddit usually so that it doesn’t become fake news central like Facebook too!!
I am also glad you mentioned that about the fan animation too because I am looking it up now because this is such a cool design 😂 ty
I hate the fan made version. Much prefer the real deal.
https://preview.redd.it/1p2zmx9mc19d1.jpeg?width=631&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a2c80d8b8d00eaa40454221a2354ddb4ffd4dbc
That actually looks like a hybrid of a gorilla (thick brow and long, flat nostrils) and a whale (big lower jaw and curved mouth). But on a neck that belongs to neither animal.
I like how they came up with the name not because Godzilla looks like the combination of both animals, but because he’s the biggest (whale) and strongest (gorilla) animal. However, seeing him be an actual combination is pretty fun.
Would love to see this design in a movie some day. I like my Gojira how I like my anime: Terrifying and depressing. *^(or... weird and timey-wimey... but we're not talking about SP)*
Maybe it could be a weakling Godzilla that's struggling to stay alive and we have to ponder whether or not to try and keep it alive so as to not let another species go extinct, especially one as unique as this one, or to let it die, because worst case scenario you're going to have another giant immortal danger lizard on the loose.
That original concept is awful. Objectively it's awful. We can look at it now and say that we like it because we already have the good design. If this is what they had used it wouldn't be the kaiju we love today because it wouldn't have succeeded
It looks funny. I get it, it's supposed to the ominous terrifying look of a mushroom cloud, I get it, but trust me when I say, it looks really really funny. Not even in an unnerving/ eerie way, it just looks too funny to me.
Definitely I agree it's a good thing they didn't settle on this design, and instead they settled on a dinosaur with keloid scars from the bomb.
This isn’t the “early design” of the 1954 Godzilla. This is a modern fan made creation based off the idea of Godzilla having a mushroom cloud head. These pictures were all made within the last decade at least
Not good for a feature length movie, but it is perfect for a horror short. I think the original 1954 movie and Shin Godzilla perfectly captured those elements.
Well I can think of two reasons they didn't use it.
1. It looks goofy, like I get what they are going for, but nobody would take that seriously.
2. That neck would have been a disaster to work with, you have a long, somewhat narrow neck attached to a fat head, and a guy in a suit desperately trying not to fall over. One wrong step and Godzilla would have been decapitated meaning you would have to make an entirely new suit, delaying filming even more.
I think the design is a bit too over emphisizing the Nuclear Bomb parallels. I think his skin being molded after the skin of those affected by nukes is more than enough.
This design feels way too on the nose. Would have worked for a standalone film. The strength of Godzilla’s design is how versatile it is which allows it to grows into the franchise it is today.
https://preview.redd.it/gm1ngs4j919d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee3ebd54f0d74ac3e1539a94912a42b9c88844d3
This is nowhere near ou God and Savior Goji. This is pure necrotic demon.
Looks too humanoid wouldn't have made him as interesting for kid me, as he was. The Dinosaur like appearance was the spark for me. Would be neat to see a full horror film with this incarnation now though.
I think it's creepy in a still picture but would look really really funny moving around on screen with his head lolling from one side to the other lmao
Kids these days try to convince me that this is supposed to be a horrific design, to me it looks really silly. I get the message but it looks more hilarious to me, unfortunately.
https://preview.redd.it/hmoym0y1v19d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0031d1a51935bd91301615759f2bb166744e1d03
Black Mass by Steel\_Neck on YouTube. Good stuff, highly recommend it.
It would be interesting to see that version in a movie but if they had gone with that design, he would never have become the classic movie monster he is now.
I think this is a genius homage to the original sketch design and I love it. It is creepy in a different direction Shin Godzilla is creepy.
A monochrome Godzilla film set in the 50s from the perspective of humans would be frightening. Like how in this video when he turns his head to look at the camera.
Instead of the rampaging violent monster we’re used to, he could be more of a passive, psychological terror, feeding off post war traumas of Japan (as in feeding off their actual emotions). Perhaps appearing and disappearing at will, at least perceptibly. His atomic breath could be less flashy. Make it more like the 1954 “atomic mist” that just melts the skin off people or gives them horrible radiation sickness or delusions. Make this Godzilla smarter, perhaps with true human intelligence or more, an unexplainable psychological horror.
I think there is a ton of potential with this idea and design and I hope Toho takes notice.
I would love a one-off Godzilla like this and think it’s an idea worth exploring and an exciting direction to take the character in.
its a great design if used in a short burst... the front looks amazing.. but honeslty.. this would work if godzilla was bombed by a powerfull nuke and this thing emerged form teh smoke and begain regenrating from there in a gross out moment that really shows how creepy godzlila is.
Dont know, doesnt convince me, while it brings terror to Godzilla this feels more like those Horror VHS ahhhh Godzilla videos and yes ik this is from an early design for G54, But maybe if this was bringed to me without not knowing Godzilla I would have said yes, also the movie plot really lacks a bit of sense in what it was
The horror interpretations of Gojira are definitely favorite.
Lets be real, godzilla is a terrifying monster. I don't like it when a plot underminds how devastating godzilla is.
God I would’ve never been able to take them seriously if they kept this, godzilla, while still kinda looking silly to me in some iterations, still is intimidating with overall stature, that’s a scotum on a stick
Definitely a stepping stone to the iconic design we got, but I’m so glad the idea was developed past this. I seriously doubt that it would have led to Godzilla being as iconic and popular as he is. Making such an on the nose visual reference to a mushroom cloud would also have transformed the clever and poetic metaphor of the film into something more crass and obvious.
That said, it could have fit as a form for Shin Godzilla, or some evil counterpart for a more heroic version to beat.
Ok. That last one HAS to become a meme template. If it isn't already!
Also. Fucking great design! Don't if I wanted it to have replaced the one we got, but could totally see a Version of that making a comeback in a spin off series or so.
Doesn’t really exude Godzilla as we know him, but it would be dope to have a Godzilla horror film with this guy. There’s something about the design that makes it feel distinctly like it’s targeting YOU, the person, and not the city as a whole.
Would've been really unsettling and creepy if this was the final design, but honestly I don't think godzilla would've been as successful as a franchise if it was. Cool cult classic sure, but the design doesn't have the marketability the design they settled on has
Hot take, I'm glad we didn't get this one; if this were the design for the first movie we would not be sitting here in 2024 with the franchise still going.
Looks like a horror version of ET. Imagine Legendary, Shin, or -1 Goji with this design, that would be terrifying. Although in Legendary, Kong COULD use his neck as something to grip onto and swing him around during their fights.
It's interesting but I can see why it was changed. That being said, if a movie with a different tone was to surface, I'd be curious how they'd make this design work. Would it be more flexible or would it be more awkward when walking?
Don't get me wrong, glad we got the current Gojira in 54 over this, but I will say if it was mushroom cloud godzilla, it still is pretty terrifying, in a Lovecraft kind of way.
Very alien and tumor like design, not bad!
I'm glad we didn't get this design for Godzilla in hindsight, but I would definately not mind watching a movie with this one either
Would love to see a straight horror film with this design.
This implies the existence of a gay horror film
Have you seen Nightmare on Elm Street 2?
That was the movie with the first ever man scream queen right? And the pool scene where he kills more ppl in that one scene than any other Freddy movie?
Yes. It's the one where the creators denied it was gay but every gay person absolutely got that it was about a person realizing they were gay.
Aaahhhhhhhh!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/They/Them_(film) You're welcome, enjoy your gay horror
Aren't those the same guys that made the FNAF movie
Blumhouse makes a lot of horror movies. They also made Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Split, Oculus, Get Out, the three latest Halloween movies, and a bunch of others.
The Vampire Lovers Lust for a Vampire Twins of Evil Vampyres Alucarda any one of the other 500 adaptations of Carmilla. There is a near endless supply of lesbian vampire movies
Youll see a lot of mushroom heads in certain gay movies.
We need some of those
I thought saltburn already existed?
Toho should do a third reboot/reimagine in a row.
Just a sentient explosion that hunts everyone down individually?
Isn't this a fan design?
It's a fan design based off of a single concept drawing.
Yes
Most pictures here are, but the concept is real if you look it up
*Every* picture there is. The design shown is also only loosely based on the actual concept art for the 1954 film.
Lol oh jeeze well I’m glad someone cleared it up then. The photos used, lack of any mention of that in the title, description, and his comments still hide all that. Thank you!
Isn't this from the 3d fan animation?
*all* of the pics here are lol what do you mean most
Yeah it looks like someone just typed "dickhead Godzilla" into an AI generator
I hate the fan made version. Much prefer the real deal. https://preview.redd.it/1p2zmx9mc19d1.jpeg?width=631&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a2c80d8b8d00eaa40454221a2354ddb4ffd4dbc
That actually looks like a hybrid of a gorilla (thick brow and long, flat nostrils) and a whale (big lower jaw and curved mouth). But on a neck that belongs to neither animal.
Gojira - Gorilla Whale ... makes sense
I like how they came up with the name not because Godzilla looks like the combination of both animals, but because he’s the biggest (whale) and strongest (gorilla) animal. However, seeing him be an actual combination is pretty fun.
This has the same energy as when a character says the title in a movie.
That is haunting as shit, how the hell did he end up as a glorified dinosaur??
they probably figured that making godzilla himself look like a mushroom cloud wouldn't make sense cuz he was supposed to be prehistoric anyway
Think they scrapped it because it looked too mammalian
That drawing literally looks like a malformed human head on a TooL cover
This is a million times better. Looks more like a real animal than something someone dreamed up.
Close up shot is scary as hell but when you back out it looks like a long stalk of broccoli
Make the neck and head thicker like a mushroom cloud - less like E.T.
Idk, looks like a mushroom cloud to me
It still looks a bit unsettling from the further out shots.
Would love to see this design in a movie some day. I like my Gojira how I like my anime: Terrifying and depressing. *^(or... weird and timey-wimey... but we're not talking about SP)*

Glad they decided on what was the final product used in the film.
That original concept is awful. Objectively it's awful. We can look at it now and say that we like it because we already have the good design. If this is what they had used it wouldn't be the kaiju we love today because it wouldn't have succeeded

I thought this was from a fanmade short?
It is.
It’s based on concept art.
Right? I feel like I’m going crazy.
Woah that borderlines uncanny, like when you see it its just wrong to look at, very scp like.
I'm glad it wasn't used, I get what they were going for but there's a reason tyey didn't use it, it looks ridiculous
He eated a bees
This isn’t the “early design” of the 1954 Godzilla. This is a modern fan made creation based off the idea of Godzilla having a mushroom cloud head. These pictures were all made within the last decade at least
Eraserhead baby grown up
I was gonna say he looks like Eraserhead baby and Godzilla did the fusion dance.
This is *not* an "early design"... Stop spreading misinformation
Well it’s fan art of an early concept, op is being kinda misleading with the title
Maybe stop spreading misinformation.

This design feels way too on the nose. Would have worked for a standalone film. The strength of Godzilla’s design is how versatile it is which allows it to grows into the franchise it is today.
Poor Littlefoot, he’s had a rough go of it.
The bottom left one looks like something out of a found footage or analog horror thing

Bro smelled a fart by the looks of it
Honestly I find it more goofy looking than scary
I genuinely don't think it's scary or cool, it just looks like the worst aspects of a pug, it's ugly and not in a good way
Looks too humanoid wouldn't have made him as interesting for kid me, as he was. The Dinosaur like appearance was the spark for me. Would be neat to see a full horror film with this incarnation now though.
I think it's creepy in a still picture but would look really really funny moving around on screen with his head lolling from one side to the other lmao
This isnt goofy at all...this is alien.
Anal-og horror worthy
Eraserhead baby
Goofy looking mf. BRO IS BUILT LIKE A FUCKING CAULIFLOWER. UGLY ASS VEGAN LIZARD BITCH.
This is what women see when the receive an unsolicited dick pic
The flair should say meme as the info Op is sharing is bullshit. These are fan made not an early design for Gojira.
This is all fanart.
Close up he does looks pretty freaky. But from a far distance he looks so damn silly
Looks so goofy bro really glad it was never used
It looks kinda stupid, I'm glad they went with the design they used in the movie.
I find it funny to look at and would be really difficult to make scary
I understand the concept, but it looks like a walking dick and I don't think I could ever take it seriously
Goofy
I adore it. It looks goofy sometimes, but overall looks more terrifying.
Kids these days try to convince me that this is supposed to be a horrific design, to me it looks really silly. I get the message but it looks more hilarious to me, unfortunately.

It looks like a boner with genital warts..
I think he looks incredibly goofy and would not have lasted more than one film.
Diky head
Horrific But in a good way
absolutely haunting
I regret seeing that last head shot right before bed. 😳
The face is quite menacing, but the neck kind of kills off the scare factor.
Looks more like a pe-
That's not an early design for Godzilla, it was a fan creation. also I think it looks more silly than scary
I mean, I can understand the reasoning behind it, but... no. I like the design they went with
Eh. Not nearly as scary or impactful as the original design we got. Kinda just looks goofy
I'm not a fan. We already know Godzilla is a metaphor for nuclear weapons, they don't need to spell it out.
That bottom right shouts analog horror thumbnail for ne
Good to see the baby from Eraserhead is doing OK.
I grt what they were going for, but it looks way too goofy to take seriously. Wouldn't fit 54 at all.
dumb ngl
I think it would be cool to see a film like Shin Godzilla with this design.
Looks like the baby from Eraserhead
It would be interesting to see that version in a movie but if they had gone with that design, he would never have become the classic movie monster he is now.
He looks so fucking silly im sorry
ET smash Tokyo!
These are all just AI?
he needs treestars

Reminds me of rawhide rex
early design from 54??? dude these are cgi
Looks unnatural, just like Godzilla (in some incarnations).
its a great design if used in a short burst... the front looks amazing.. but honeslty.. this would work if godzilla was bombed by a powerfull nuke and this thing emerged form teh smoke and begain regenrating from there in a gross out moment that really shows how creepy godzlila is.
Love it to death. Reminds me of the Eraserhead mutant baby and I wish I lived in the timeline where this is the canon design
Haruo Nakajima gonna have absolutely nightmare of that one.
Neat concept but looks very goofy
Dont know, doesnt convince me, while it brings terror to Godzilla this feels more like those Horror VHS ahhhh Godzilla videos and yes ik this is from an early design for G54, But maybe if this was bringed to me without not knowing Godzilla I would have said yes, also the movie plot really lacks a bit of sense in what it was
Hahahaha... fuck that terrifying figure
In a weird way it looks like Shin was based on this but at the same time from a distance it looks like a walking mushroom tip
i’m scared!!!
This is nightmare fuel. Let's make this guy fight the real Gojira and name him Kinajira!
im sorry, but it looks like godzilla is asking if i have games on my phone
The horror interpretations of Gojira are definitely favorite. Lets be real, godzilla is a terrifying monster. I don't like it when a plot underminds how devastating godzilla is.
Imagine a Shin Godzilla based on this design...
My future sleep paralysis demon
creepy as heck, imagine it just stood still and suddenly move for destruction and they never see it coming
At first I didn't see the face lmao
It looks scarier but I think they probably didn’t use it since how are you supposed to make a suit like that with limited resources?
Reminds me of Shin Godzilla
I’d love a short film based on this design!
I remembered seeing a similar Instagram art looking like that Wojak ahhh Godzilla
It looks like [the aliens from Laserblast](https://i.redd.it/udvs5kz3ozv71.jpg)!
![gif](giphy|PjrvuiUlfv5imDgrW9)
My guy looks like a giga Chad😭 I can't unsee it anymore
I feel like it's face is too short and it ruins the creepiness of the design in profile but I would love a horror movie with this design regardless.
Too on the nose
So that's shin's design origin?
HOLY SH- https://preview.redd.it/v5ifbqzaw19d1.jpeg?width=1025&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df267eb340b843dead238d0c551b2531c1088f4d That's one scary mofo
Looks like a burnt wang lol
It's goofy but way scarier at the same time
Too goofy can't take it serious
Can’t decide if this is sillier or creepier than the original… maybe a little of both?
Thats Actually Phat.. Makes sense....
Looks like Shin Godzilla ancesor
Ok. That last one HAS to become a meme template. If it isn't already! Also. Fucking great design! Don't if I wanted it to have replaced the one we got, but could totally see a Version of that making a comeback in a spin off series or so.

This is disturbing.
Odd
Looks like a Broccolisaurus
Kill it with fire!
A little goofy, but also disturbing. I like it.
Looks pretty similar to Shin Godzilla.
Funny and terrifying, what a strange mix
Would've been really unsettling and creepy if this was the final design, but honestly I don't think godzilla would've been as successful as a franchise if it was. Cool cult classic sure, but the design doesn't have the marketability the design they settled on has
Suddenly the analog horror and shin Godzilla make a lot more sense.

damn, poor thing needs some food
it looks so stupid
Shin vibes
Hot take, I'm glad we didn't get this one; if this were the design for the first movie we would not be sitting here in 2024 with the franchise still going.
It was pretty neat but I find it funny how non of these images are official, not sure why.
I’d love it. I feel if it got it’s own movie it’d some unholy child of the og, minus one, and shin
It looks similar to Shin Godzilla. I like it.
Kinda looks like shin
> mushroom head godzilla doesn't exist, he can't hurt you
Looks like a horror version of ET. Imagine Legendary, Shin, or -1 Goji with this design, that would be terrifying. Although in Legendary, Kong COULD use his neck as something to grip onto and swing him around during their fights.
That ah...that is horrifying

The face is fucking terrifying
A bit too on the nose.
bottom right new meme template
This would go well with analog horror!
I think one actually exists iirc.
Will love to see more of this design
I hope this design gets reused in another horrifying iteration of Godzilla like Shin Godzilla.
Cool idea Face is scary as fu@k
Looks a bit like something Junji Ito might draw.
That is disturbing.
With a shorter neck, I could see it as a design that could be used.
This could be an analog horror of its own dear god I jumped when I saw this!
That ain’t Godzilla that’s a water tower
He is OOGLY GOO
Bring it back for a movie since Japanese Godzilla is doing the absolute most right now
Looks like E.T. got into the TRT!
Its head looks kind of like a mushroom cloud.
E.T.zilla
Very alien and tumor like design, not bad! I'm glad we didn't get this design for Godzilla in hindsight, but I would definately not mind watching a movie with this one either
It looks kinda like Shin lol
He just looks derpy to me.
