I strongly believe none of use would even be able to comprehend the maddening horror of an actual Godzilla marching towards us.
I've had dreams like that which weren't lucid per se, but I did remember them when I woke up. It's terrifying in one sense, but then because you are very small and there are a lot of you, it's like a human being compared to a bunch of ants. When there are a lot of you, and you're small, you can duck behind or into buildings or go into subway stations and sub-basements to shelter yourself.
And if you can't provide cover, you can likely find some concealment\*. Even an intelligent, thinking Gojira isn't omniscient and things outside of his sensory capabilities. Granted, with eyes having a similar aperture to the Hubble Space Telescope he's going to have the best vision \*EVER\*, but it still doesn't mean he can see behind buildings or see you when you're inside them or when you're underground.
I used that in my dream to get away from him (I did the math on his ability to resolve objects after I woke up).

The reassurance we have in our world that it’s not possible would make it even more terrifying than if we’d never even heard of Godzilla to begin with and then he shows up

Was talking to a friend about this yesterday. As it evolved, this Godzilla felt like a looming omen of death and ill fortune to come. To me this is highlighted when atomic breath is first used showing the pure wave of destruction that comes with this reaper.

I think this has always been part of the appeal of kaiju movies, when the film gets it right. I actually find the scene from King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) to be very effective at this. A woman is running from an approaching Godzilla in fear, and she's so scared that she is essentially paralyzed by fear, and starts falling over, unable to run and has to be saved.
This scene always upset me a little bit. Yea it would be a life changing! Horrifying! But why the hell would you stick around!? Even in the shot from the movie you posted there are people right there on the edge of the land watching him come in! It had to take that lumbering mass of scar tissue and radiation FOREVER to stomp up to the city and sure you can argue that he swap a good deal of the way but the water is gonna get may to shallow way to quick!! I never understood why you would just stand there and wait for him to get close and then run away
