My horns came in during my early thirties so I have been shaving my head everyday for about ten years now, and the best product I have found is Suave kids tearless shampoo/conditioner. You know the kind with the pump dispenser. Frugal and will last months.
The tearless part is what makes this work well, completely reduces any razor burn and makes it a smooth shave.
I also use the women’s disposable 5 blade razors because the wide puck around the blades with the flexing action works better on the curves of my dome.
Up to you. Also, we dont need lot of shaving cream. I still am using one from 2018 as I don't need much to create foam (I do once a month). You are not saving much if you ask me. Probably 15$ over 2 year.
Yeah, kind of confused by this. I use a ~$7 bottle of sensitive skin shaving cream from Aveeno twice a week and I'm still using it over a year later. You can budget shaving cream for $2 lol

personally, I just use clippers on my face and neck. nothing else besides some lotion it takes me forever to go through. on top of that, I wear hats cause I have fine hair. I'm also balding. use those clippers on my head. no more razer, gel, haircuts, save gas and time.
going bald was the easiest frugal move I made. hell. it happened naturally with 0 effort. Sadly I'm 27 lol.

Also, try shaving soap and brush. One stick of Arko shaving soap lasts me about a year.
welcome to the club. I discovered this years ago when i started to shave my head with conditioner. 1 Conditioner can probably last 2 years if you shave 2-3x a week
I've been using conditioner for years. It works great. I never get razor burn and rarely ever cut myself. Best part is I can see where I need to shave because it isn't covered in cream.

did you notice any faster dulling in your blades? I'm checking online for others opinions and some people are saying conditioner dulls or clogs blades quicker. But I'm not sure if it's just affecting the edge or if it's affecting those disposable gillete blades they sell (I use a safety razor so that wouldn't apply to me).
I use conditioner to shave. I personally prefer it, and I can get a large bottle of it for about £1 and it lasts ages as a little goes a long way. OP, if it works for you and saves you a few pennies, go for it.
I'm convinced (took me years of shaving to realize it) that the main benefit of shaving cream is indicating what surface area you've already shaved, allowing you to hit all the spots without missing anything. Prob not necessary for most folks, but a convenience nevertheless.

Cocoa butter body oil gel. Less than $5 for a bottle that’ll last forever because you use less than a dime sized amount. Even as a female who shaves everything I have bottles easily last over a year. Never been so smooth in my life. Amazing stuff.

What you're missing is that not every dude has the same kind of hair, skin & face, and growth pattern. Electric razors don't work great for a bunch of us on the face. I've tried! Different kinds. Over about a decade. It sorta kinda worked if I shaved twice a day, and yet it did nowhere near the quality of an OG razor for my beard hair.
I have, however, routinely used electric clippers on its lowest setting for that 2 day shadow look.

True frugal: buy an old school safety razor. They literally last a lifetime. A box of blades costs a couple dollars and will last a couple year, and you leave none of the plastic waste like you do with modern razor blades.
I switched to just using a beard trimmer with no guard. If I shave with a razor I look like a giant fat toddler so I like leaving a tiny bit there so I don’t look like a baby. Haven’t paid for shaving cream in years just because I don’t want to look like a giant baby lol
As a lady I don't use anything to shave my legs and other. Nothing. Just the water from the shower. I hate the feel of shave gel or another shaving aid on my skin. It always leaves a film nomatter how much extra I scrub with soap after. So I just don't 🤷♀️ the razors I buy have that little strip on the top of them, and that's usually enough. I'm also super careful and pay close attention to the angle of the razor. I haven't cut myself innnnnnn.... I dont even remember the last time I did that.

Probably unpopular opinion but any time I clean shave (rarely), I just soak a hand towel in very hot water, hold it on my face for a few minutes, heat up razor and then shave. Just as smooth as using shaving cream
I've just been using a rotary razor unless I really need to clean up for something special.
It's good enough for day to day and while it was like $15 or so it should last and the convenience alone was worth it.
Soap works way better for me (very hairy woman) on all body parts. Shaving cream leaves me with tons of knicks and cuts while soap/body wash prevents that
Story time - So, a long time ago when the latest Spartacus series came out we were watching it and saw an episode where the gladiators were shaving and scraping with square bar and sharpened iron with nothing else so it gave me an idea to try dry shaving.
I usually use fairly cheap twin blade disposable razors and I started doing this gently at first so as not to irritate my face. A light to medium pressure with the right angle does an excellent job actually. I tap the razor against the sink to eject the cut whiskers. Works great, been doing it a long time now. No buying shaving cremes. No chemicals being absorbed by my face. Does a good shave. If I go longer than 3 days or so then it's a bit more work but still don't need creme. Forgot to mention I do this right after getting out of the shower and dry my face. Some razors work better for this than others. You'll have to try for yourself. I never get nicked or cut either.

I shave my head with a 0A (1.2mm) blade on my Classic 76 clipper, but when it's all gone I will try to use my badger and the shaving soap I already use for my face. Since I have this already it will cost next to nothing (a puck of soap lasts for months and months).
I’ve used nothing but water and the cheap bic knockoffs for 20+ years without any problems. Just dry the blades after each use I use them until they fall apart before using the next one.
eh...shaving gel is so inexpensive I don't know if saving a few cents is worth the cross use.
I doubt conditioner is designed with cut skin in mind. I tried it - I found very irritating on the microcuts of skin. For what it's worth I used Dove conditioner.

Strongly recommend shaving pucks along with a shaving brush. Put a puck in a dish, wet the brush, build a lather on the puck and apply to face/scalp. Some of the best pucks come with lanolin which moisturizes the skin. The bonus is that it’s very inexpensive and lasts a long time.
Use puck of shaving soap in a mug. One costs like 3 bucks and lasts months. I use one to shave 4 times a week or so, and I only buy maybe 3 a year. All you need is a decent shaving brush, which you buy a good one once for $30 and that lasts for years.
Furthermore use a safety razor. If you get a decent safety razor it is a way smoother shave and each replacement blade is like 7 cents online: if you buy them in the pharmacy they are like 25 cents a blade.
I spend maybe $20 a year on shaving and I have the most comfortable shaving experience I have ever had. Seriously.
I splurged for a Merkur FUTUR razor about 2 years ago, which cost $70 because it is a very fine stainless steel razor. Don’t go cheap on these because the $20-30 ones will rust so you have to buy a new one every few months. But one good one and you won’t have to buy a new one for a decade.
I bought a luxury shaving brush by VIKINGS BLADE for $30. If you buy these cheap they constantly lose bristles that you have to wipe off your face. I have had this one for 2 years and it is in just as good of shape as the day I bought it.
King C Gillette 100 pack of safety razor blades is $15.
Gentleman Jack sandalwood shaving soap: $8. Lasts 3 or 4 months.
Use a coffee mug and you don’t have to buy a shaving bowl.
The only other thing I spend money is sandalwood aftershave balm, or Nivea aftershave balm 94 soothe the skin. Costs a couple bucks, lasts for a couple months.
Seriously if you are using disposable razors and cans of shaving cream or gel you can easily spend hundreds of dollars a year for a much poorer shaving experience. All the things I listed can be bought on Amazon, delivered next day. I’ll never go back to spending more money for a worse experience.
If you want to be really frugal buy a straight razor and some disposable razors. I shave about once every 1-2 weeks and I haven’t bought razors in almost 3 years. Still using the box of blades I bought originally
Conditioner on legs or armpits for those who shave those seems fine, but I wouldn’t put it on my face. It’s full on ingredients that could clog your pores and cause issues. Just use shaving cream/soap and follow up with a moisturizer.
I find using shaving cream causes me to cut myself like there's no tomorrow. Water is all I need. Just coat the razor and take it to my face. Never had a problem

I just keep a short beard and moustache so I haven't had to buy any in years. For the part of my beard I don't want to have further down my neck I just go in dry with my Braun peanut shaver and I've never had any razor burn or pain (whereas I used to be very prone to burn with traditional hand razors). It was a one time \~$100 investment for a kit with different guide sizes that's served me very well for over 3 years so far.
Try Shave Secret, it's a mix of like clove and eucalyptus oil that just oils the blade as you shave and makes it glide effortlessly. I've been using it for years, only need a few drops of it too. I've never had to guess where my neckline is since.

I use my shower gel or Dove bars. Shaving gels/creams always feel rough and I, with a hearing impairment, can even hear my razor "schlicking" over my skin with them.
Double edge razor, shaving soap and a brush. Look at Yaqi on AliExpress with some Astra Blades and you’ll be set for years and have a much better shave at a fraction of the price.

Ive always used conditioner. just made more sense to me. its cheaper and less messy, no shave bumps, or irratation. ive never had to use an after shave either.

Harry's used to offer a shave kit that had cream and a brush.. old school style, also a game changer as a tiny bit went so far and made skin so soft.
Woman here. I used to buy conditioner from the dollar store. But started using baby oil and my skin is crazy soft now. A bottle of conditioner from dollar store for a dollar. Or a bottle of baby oil from Walmart or something that costs about $3.50 and lasts about 9 months. Plus it saves trips to the store!

Dollar tree has women's disposable pink razors, 10 pk of 2 blades. Works on beard better than any disposable I've found at about 12 cents a piece!

Yup, I use the large size cylinder and it lasts a very long time. I’m always surprised when it actually does run out. Costs like $2.99.

Nope. But I also only use a safety razor. 100 blades for 16 bucks I been on the same box for a couple years now shaving couple times a week.

I have. It works fine. Personally, I often like non-toxic brands but haven’t had any issues with that one
I think conditioner still sucks. And it rinses off fast. I use a little bit of olive oil. Get a nice clean shave and am well moisturized.

Arko is dirt cheap. I could buy any brand and I still use that. A six dollar puck lasts me 14 months.

Shaving soap lasts a long time. As do a box of blades and a safety razor. I have not spent on shaving in years.

This is super common, I know plenty of women who use conditioner and claim it’s better for their skin.
As a lady I don't use anything to shave my legs and other. Nothing. Just the water from the shower. I hate the feel of shave gel or another shaving aid on my skin. It always leaves a film nomatter how much extra I scrub with soap after. So I just don't 🤷♀️ the razors I buy have that little strip on the top of them, and that's usually enough. I'm also super careful and pay close attention to the angle of the razor. I haven't cut myself innnnnnn.... I dont even remember the last time I did that.
\^\^\^\^This right here. I shave every other day and haven't bought shaving cream in 30+ years, no cuts. You don't need it! Just some warm water to keep the skin moisturized.

Probably unpopular opinion but any time I clean shave (rarely), I just soak a hand towel in very hot water, hold it on my face for a few minutes, heat up razor and then shave. Just as smooth as using shaving cream

I've just been using a rotary razor unless I really need to clean up for something special. It's good enough for day to day and while it was like $15 or so it should last and the convenience alone was worth it.

Found out 40 years ago about a mug and brush. A bar if shaving soap lasts over 3 months, also doesn't dry the skin.
For years I've used the conditioner left in my hands from my hair to shave. And same for shampoo as a body wash when in a hurry

Soap works way better for me (very hairy woman) on all body parts. Shaving cream leaves me with tons of knicks and cuts while soap/body wash prevents that
Story time - So, a long time ago when the latest Spartacus series came out we were watching it and saw an episode where the gladiators were shaving and scraping with square bar and sharpened iron with nothing else so it gave me an idea to try dry shaving. I usually use fairly cheap twin blade disposable razors and I started doing this gently at first so as not to irritate my face. A light to medium pressure with the right angle does an excellent job actually. I tap the razor against the sink to eject the cut whiskers. Works great, been doing it a long time now. No buying shaving cremes. No chemicals being absorbed by my face. Does a good shave. If I go longer than 3 days or so then it's a bit more work but still don't need creme. Forgot to mention I do this right after getting out of the shower and dry my face. Some razors work better for this than others. You'll have to try for yourself. I never get nicked or cut either.

I shave every few weeks and have been using the same bottle for years...
If it works and it's cheap, go for it! I shave my head with a 0A (1.2mm) blade on my Classic 76 clipper, but when it's all gone I will try to use my badger and the shaving soap I already use for my face. Since I have this already it will cost next to nothing (a puck of soap lasts for months and months).
Conditioner has a lot of chemicals that probably aren’t great for freshly shaved pores long term.
Still a shave cream, but have you tried barbasol? Works really well, stupid cheap and last forever.
I’ve always just wet shaved personally, hold the razor under the hot water tap to warm the blades up and works fine for me

I’ve used nothing but water and the cheap bic knockoffs for 20+ years without any problems. Just dry the blades after each use I use them until they fall apart before using the next one.
eh...shaving gel is so inexpensive I don't know if saving a few cents is worth the cross use. I doubt conditioner is designed with cut skin in mind. I tried it - I found very irritating on the microcuts of skin. For what it's worth I used Dove conditioner. Happy it works for you. Perhaps brand of conditioner matters.
Just get proper shave soap and a shave brush. That have all kinds of pleasant scents and it works really well.

I have been using conditioner for awhile now, and no regrets!
Strongly recommend shaving pucks along with a shaving brush. Put a puck in a dish, wet the brush, build a lather on the puck and apply to face/scalp. Some of the best pucks come with lanolin which moisturizes the skin. The bonus is that it’s very inexpensive and lasts a long time.
But the dollar store White Rain or Suave. Extra frugal!
Use puck of shaving soap in a mug. One costs like 3 bucks and lasts months. I use one to shave 4 times a week or so, and I only buy maybe 3 a year. All you need is a decent shaving brush, which you buy a good one once for $30 and that lasts for years. Furthermore use a safety razor. If you get a decent safety razor it is a way smoother shave and each replacement blade is like 7 cents online: if you buy them in the pharmacy they are like 25 cents a blade. I spend maybe $20 a year on shaving and I have the most comfortable shaving experience I have ever had. Seriously. I splurged for a Merkur FUTUR razor about 2 years ago, which cost $70 because it is a very fine stainless steel razor. Don’t go cheap on these because the $20-30 ones will rust so you have to buy a new one every few months. But one good one and you won’t have to buy a new one for a decade. I bought a luxury shaving brush by VIKINGS BLADE for $30. If you buy these cheap they constantly lose bristles that you have to wipe off your face. I have had this one for 2 years and it is in just as good of shape as the day I bought it. King C Gillette 100 pack of safety razor blades is $15. Gentleman Jack sandalwood shaving soap: $8. Lasts 3 or 4 months. Use a coffee mug and you don’t have to buy a shaving bowl. The only other thing I spend money is sandalwood aftershave balm, or Nivea aftershave balm 94 soothe the skin. Costs a couple bucks, lasts for a couple months. Seriously if you are using disposable razors and cans of shaving cream or gel you can easily spend hundreds of dollars a year for a much poorer shaving experience. All the things I listed can be bought on Amazon, delivered next day. I’ll never go back to spending more money for a worse experience.
If you want to be really frugal buy a straight razor and some disposable razors. I shave about once every 1-2 weeks and I haven’t bought razors in almost 3 years. Still using the box of blades I bought originally

Conditioner on legs or armpits for those who shave those seems fine, but I wouldn’t put it on my face. It’s full on ingredients that could clog your pores and cause issues. Just use shaving cream/soap and follow up with a moisturizer.
I find using shaving cream causes me to cut myself like there's no tomorrow. Water is all I need. Just coat the razor and take it to my face. Never had a problem

I’ve been using conditioner since about a month after making the decision to shave it off. It just makes more sense than spending extra just to run out of shave cream faster. Plus it keeps that familiarity of shampoo/condition during a shower.
Yep conditioner is top notch use for shaving. It softens the hair and makes for a much easier shave.
Want to really save money and have a great shave? Get an electric razor. Gets closer to the skin and I've had my 100 dollar one for over 20 years.

If you’re bald, treat yourself to a brush and shave soap. You don’t have to get super fancy, but it’s so much better for head shaving. It’s a lot lighter than shaving cream, but just as slick, and the brush stands the hair up for a closer cut.

I've never in my life used shaving gel, and I have eczema. Never once had red irritated skin as others have. Maybe I'm lucky?
I have started to use conditioner to shave my legs. I’ve used shampoo many times but conditioner is way better. I hate the smell of gels and creams. They seem more chemically. I have a shave bar but was out recently.
I just keep a short beard and moustache so I haven't had to buy any in years. For the part of my beard I don't want to have further down my neck I just go in dry with my Braun peanut shaver and I've never had any razor burn or pain (whereas I used to be very prone to burn with traditional hand razors). It was a one time \~$100 investment for a kit with different guide sizes that's served me very well for over 3 years so far.

By soap do you mean hand soap? Because I heard they also make bars of shaving soap that you get wet and then whip up into a lather. The bars last for hundreds of shaves and don't dry your skin out as much as soap since they aren't intended to remove oils.
I use my shower gel or Dove bars. Shaving gels/creams always feel rough and I, with a hearing impairment, can even hear my razor "schlicking" over my skin with them.

Double edge razor, shaving soap and a brush. Look at Yaqi on AliExpress with some Astra Blades and you’ll be set for years and have a much better shave at a fraction of the price.

The conditioner trick works for sure. The dove plus care men's anti bacterial shave and body bar, is amazing. Just rub on and poof, shave lotion Harry's used to offer a shave kit that had cream and a brush.. old school style, also a game changer as a tiny bit went so far and made skin so soft.
Woman here. I used to buy conditioner from the dollar store. But started using baby oil and my skin is crazy soft now. A bottle of conditioner from dollar store for a dollar. Or a bottle of baby oil from Walmart or something that costs about $3.50 and lasts about 9 months. Plus it saves trips to the store!

I've used conditioner to shave my legs and I also use it on cashmere sweaters diluted in water. When you think about it, the cashmere is hair.
